This is another entry into the Hunter Clan series, a series I like more and more as I read it. There are shifters, mages, warlocks, vampires, you name it. And bad ass Dragons!

In this installment, Jayden (one of the McLeod brothers) has escaped from Potestas with their sister, Lily. He has been put through horrors at the hands of Potestas and has had his voice suppressed by his brother, Blake, who is being forced to work with Potestas at the risk of death to the family. Jayden and Lily are now safe with the Hunter Clan and turns out both have mates there. Lily is too young to be claimed (poor Morgan!) but Jayden’s issue is a little deeper. Rhys, the clan doctor, is his mate and Jayden doesn’t feel worthy of him. Who wants a mate that can’t even speak, that’s his feeling. He also doesn’t know yet the big secret Rhys is keeping, that he’s a hybrid.

First off, Derrick. I want Derrick’s story and I want someone badass who will protect him, avenge him and take care of him. We barely know him and still, that poor baby.

Jayden’s inability to control his Earth element was a great touch. Too much emotion? Here comes the flying branches. There is a feeling of betrayal, of angst and torment in Jayden yet he still remains a young man looking to be happy. He needs advice from his family and writes a note: “Right now I need some advice. I think I accidentally acted like a slut.” That made me smile, not only because of Jayden but because he got to say it to my favorite of the Clan, Riley! And Riley got to respond in Riley fashion, “You are who you are. As individual as your tongue print.” I love that guy.

Rhys and Jayden have to navigate coming to terms with their relationship while the ever present (and seemingly ever closer) hand of Potestas causes more and more danger. I appreciate that in this series it is not just the big bad alphas who are dangerous and protective. They all have something to offer. In the words of Riley, “Stay the fuck away from my mate, bitch.” They’ll toast you. Jayden comes into his power when he needs it and again, enemies get handed their asses by the smaller mate. Yes!

You do see the next mating coming early on, just had to be there. I didn’t see at all the one behind Potestas and I can’t wait until he gets his. Hopefully Jayden gets to be part of taking him down. This is a great series and I’m looking forward to the next one. And one for Derrick…

Jayden and his little sister had managed to escape the evil they had lived in. Thanks to another brother who they were forced to leave behind. He was lost in so many ways and thinks that he is to broken to be of any use. Then he meets his mate.

Rhy had many secrets and one of them most people hated. He was a hybrid and one part of him was the part that scared the crap out of others. When he meets his mate, he tries to hide it. By hiding it might just get his ass kicked.

It gets to be confusing trying to figure out who everyone is. I know that Jayden’s brother was the reason he couldn’t speak, but it came off that it was not his brothers fault. However you find out that it is not what you think. I just couldn’t figure out who was who in most of the story.

However this story was different in the way that they are elements. However you have an alpha who is tough and an omega who is what an omega is suppose to be, sexual wise. But it is not true in some parts of the story. Jayden was a feisty one and I truly like him. I did like his mate, but there were some parts of him that drove me nuts. I must admit that one has to read the previous books to figure parts of the story. However it was not as remarkable as they should be. I didn’t remember any of the previous stories which is not a good sign for me.

Over all I did like the story but not as much as I should. What I want to know was what happened to the one brother they needed to save. It left me questions without answers, which was another bad sign.

His Silent Mate is the fourth installment of the Hunter Clan Series by Jess Buffett. This is a series that I had been making sure to read once released as the turn of events keep developing. There is no stagnation to the character developments and definitely none for the plot. The ongoing plot developments are written in a way where no reader can honestly say they read book three but not the previous installments and say they understood what was going on. The characters from the first installments continue to grow in the following installments so readers can get a little bit lost if they skip out on any one book.

Now, His Silent Mate is about Jayden whose voice has been repressed by his own brother to aid in his survival under the cruel hands of the Potestas leader. His silence is such that it makes it difficult for his mate, Rhys, to communicate - hence there are a lot of misunderstandings here. These miscommunications could be sad and irritating at times but mostly they were hilarious, especially as Ms. Buffett gave Jayden a voice through his thoughts. Readers are then treated to some of the snarkiest and funny thoughts that Rhys or the other characters cannot be privy to. This was for me one of the best things she ever did. As a reader, I felt myself knowing stuff even Rhys could never know. I felt sad when Jayden finally got his voice back, I felt like I lost on the sweet and intimate relationship and I still feel the loss.

As for Jayden? This guy has one freaking power. He can tap into the earth and at first he could not control it, but once he did, KABOOM! I was literally pumping my arm and kicking some imagined Postestas when he started kicking some serious butts! I sooooo loved his powers.

Then there was the plot development. I am risking some spoilers here, but the discovery of who was the leader of the Potestas was quite unexpected and I had to dig back into the earlier books to identify this evil and maniacal individual. Took me some time but I finally did and it was sad. So, so, sad and unexpected. And how about Derrick and Blake? I am almost scared to read their stories so anxiety will play a huge role when I finally get to read them.

And finally, what Hunter Clan Review I write is without the ever loving mention of my all time favorite character: Riley? Oh boy, my boy Riley. Falling deeper and deeper in love with this guy that I almost wish and hope Ms. Buffett would have it in her heart to write us another book on Riley. With the new plot developments going on, I feel the growing importance of Riley's and Caleb's characters.

So how did this book fare as a fourth installment? Look to the rating of 5 Stars. Jess Buffett seriously upped her writing here.

I am getting tired of this scheme of fierce and more or less dominating top, paired with a small, overemotional and touchy (and usually broken) bottom. True, it is mixed up here sexually, but the personality and body types prevail.

Both of them, Rhys and Jayden, lost me very early in this story with their self-centred arguments and warped thinking. And they both previously had been set up as people I would have really liked, too. So that’s a bummer.

Another thing is Jayden’s way of communication.
How does his pen and paper solution actually play out? He writes what he wants to say, but then what? Does someone read it to the room? Because the conversations depicted with more than one partner present don’t mention any of that and yet everyone’s responding to his writings as though they all heard. Do they pass the pad around and wait to comment (including expressions of surprise) until everyone’s up to date?
As much as I love a mute plotline, this one wasn’t thought through terribly well, and character motivations remained firmly in the realm of cliché. (Oh no, I am half a man because *insert any kind of disability*.) Given Jayden’s past especially there would have been plenty of better reasons for him to feel not good enough.

Overall it was still okay, just like the previous volumes in this series.

Another great addition to this series.. Action, angst (not roll your eyes kind but in a way that really gives pause) some adventure, sex (nothing too kinky, often or makes you lose focus on the story) and some betrayal...

I really liked that Rhys, who's 'kind of' shown in the dominate position, is willing to be in a real give and take. That of course means that Jayden can and will take over that dominate spot at least occasionally. Once these two resolve any trust issues and go for it, this is where we turn to some action. On the final fight scene thou, Rhys did lose some man points. This isn't fair, I know! But he needed to be saved by his mate, who came across as more powerful than him, even thou he has spirit.

On a side note, this little drama between Jordan and Colton before meeting was fun, funny, and idea giving.. imagine the little surprise at the end then... oops not really a surprise! I'm really hoping their story is as good/better!

Also.. I'd LOVE for authors to have a character list who's who! When it's been a bit between books, it's hard to remember who everyone is. Sometimes a little something is enough to jog the juices into remembering who a body is...

Once again, I felt like I read the same prologue for the 4th time in a row :(

Rhys and Jayden! LOVED Jayden :) He was fiesty like Riley, but their can only be one Riley! Jayden's thought were hilarious at times.

I liked how Rhys was patient with him and got to know him, but I didn't like how he kept things from Jayden. Even though Rhys had a reason, he still should have been upfront.

I really enjoyed Jayden's Earth element. Actually I love all the elements shown :)

Jordan, the computer guy, is having "fun" getting bested by Colton, the man born in Potestas custody, and that was fun to see.

But when the Hunter Clan "storm the castle" for a 2nd time they just who is running Potestas and let's just say people are in for a BIG SURPRISE! At least they get to rescue most of the family members captured. But,

I was really looking forward to reading Jordan's story, but looks like I am going to have to wait :(

First let me say the characters have the BEST names ever! *wink*

This is book 4 of the Hunter Clan. I adored the story, Jayden and Rhys are a great couple, their dynamic was fantastic - I loved that they each had their individual strengths and fought to overcome issues from their pasts. The story is packed with action both in and out of the bedroom. Wonderful book, great addition to the series. Highly recommended.

I cant wait for book 5, the next couple is going to be combustible. ♥

Jayden's thoughts (dialogue) amused me to no end. He really had some interesting thoughts and it put a smile on my face every now and then. I didn't feel there was anything that really set his relationship with Rhys apart from any other couples in this series. I'm looking forward to reading Jordan's tale and what kind of hell his mate is going to throw at him.

His Silent Mate by Jess Buffett is fourth in the Hunter Clan series. It is best read in chronological order since each book essential takes off where the prior one ends. Having said that I must admit that I loved this story. To be clearer, I adored Rhys. Rhys has been a character that has quietly waited in the background until Ms. Buffett decided it was his turn. And when she decided she went big! This story was action packed from beginning to end as the battle between Potestas and the world heats up. But intersperse throughout the action we get a closer look at Rhys, and what I learned I adored. Rhys was so quiet and steady he could have been easily forgotten but Ms. Buffett allowed for Rhys’ insecurities and strengths to have a full airing. I love a smart man and Rhys was intelligent but caring and I adored his patience with Jayden. He had a strength that didn’t need to be shouted from the roof tops but felt sure and steady which I found to be so sexy. He could admit when he was wrong and worked hard to rectify it so that he could have a future with his mate.
Suffice to say I have a new book boyfriend in Rhys! I loved the way Ms. Buffett moved the series forward while allowing me to fall in love with a quiet alpha. I look forward to seeing where she will take us next and who my next boyfriend maybe!

Five Shooting Stars!!

And so the excellence is continued.

Jess has created a really great set of characters and doesn't forget them as she continues our new friends journey.

Again we have a great story with nothing in the way of plot holes and distractions to the growing character building.

One of the things I can say I love is the language is local to me. This is really apparent when I'm reading because I don't have to convert terms causing me to stop reading. It's really hard to give an exact description but it is something an Aussie would pick up because whether I read a book from the UK or US - or even another region of the world, I always have to convert localised things. i.e. Tertiary education in the US is a college here it's a University (or TAFE if you more technically inclined!) Whilst they are the same thing really, it's still something that will cause a skip in the story flow for me that I don't suffer in these books..

Again, do yourself a favour - get out there and by the books, particularly if you enjoy shifter/vamp story lines with great characters.

Great read, I loved His Silent Mate the storyline and the interaction between the characters will have you turning the pages in anticipation of what is to come!

Jayden McLeod has suffered horribly at the hands of the Potestas, it even lead to having his voice supressed by his brother to try to keep him safe.

Rhys Scott is the Hunter Clan Doctor. A Wolf-Shifter/Spirit Mage hybrid he has kept his spirit mage hidden until Sawyer recognises the signs and he is forced to reveal his truth.

With the help of their brother Blake, Jayden and his sister Lily escape the Potestas and head for the Hunter Clan where their twin brothers have found a home with their mates. From the minute Rhys scents Jayden he knows he is his mate but with all Jayden has been through will he be willing to accept Rhys especially if he discovers he is more than just wolf. Jayden has known pain and betrayal but when he finds out Rhys has kept his truth from him, Jayden’s world is torn apart. Can Rhys convince Jayden to give him a chance or will Rhys’s betrayal be more than Jayden can forgive.

Someone is lying near death but there's some hint about sex and everyone's grinning or smirking. Sex is more important than life. And they all say "dude" a lot. They're like a bunch of high school boys.

There was some peril but it was over way too fast.

First shifter story I've read in a long long time where they switch.

They just killed everyone by setting them on fire.

Why are there vines inside a warehouse?

Melodramatic without the payoff just felt whiny.

Pretty ok book. Extremely predictable but not bad. I had Hoped for more conflict between Rhys and Jayden. It's great when couples click but when they are too clicky with no problems it can lack spunk and excitement.
But the best written parts of the book were the sex scenes. They were imaginative and exciting. Very well done.
