Weston by Samantha Whiskey is a total standalone but the second in the Billionaire’s Game series. If you ever wanted to get insides of the heads of the rich and famous, love sports romances, and friends to lovers is your jam, then you MUST READ THIS BOOK! And if you have had the pleasure or reading any of her other series, you are sure to love the little Easter eggs of past athletes and Asher, the hero in book one, who pop up in Weston.
The author pens an original concept where the Billionaires are the team owners of various professional baseball, hockey and football teams and their lives interconnect at their regularly scheduled high stakes poker game which is preceded by thrilling adventures. It’s so clever and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! This book is filled with all the tension and a thrill factor for sure, plus all the angst of will they or won’t they…and you can bet that they do!
Weston is the owner of the Raptors football team and also has his hands in many successful business ventures. He’s King Midas making everything his big manly hands touch turn to gold, and he never fails to give credit to Brynn for her hand in his success, Brynn has been faithfully by his side since high school and although she is technically his administrative assistant, she also holds the role of best friend forever, most trustworthy confidant, and the new marketing director at one of his holdings.
Brynn was smart, loyal and level headed and I admired how she could be truthful with her feelings. How she worked hard to get ahead in her career, and how they worked through their conflicts. And through all the ups and downs, they remained each other’s biggest fans. I routed for these two the entire time.
I just loved their story and how they know each other so well. This author is one of my favorites and writes the swooniest of heroes. I truly loved their relationship, their friendship, their growth as individuals and as a couple, their sense of humor and support of one another, their witty and flirty banter, and their super steamy times which were plentiful.
Friends to lovers is my all-time favorite trope, and Samantha nailed it with Weston. He was so protective and just adored her, and I couldn’t hide my grin on many pages. I loved Weston from page one until the very end.
There’s also lots of fabulous secondary characters and a nemesis we don’t like named Boyle to add some drama. Boyle has a daughter, Serenity, whom he treats terribly and I am hoping she gets her HEA with a certain pro-team owner, Gareth, in a future book, and her dad gets his due!
