Confidante The Brothel
I don’t even know where to start. This book wasn’t what I was expecting at all, but it was still incredibly interesting. I can’t say I’ve ever read anything like this before, which gives it definite points over the other things I’ve read lately. Confidante: The Brothel, the first book in the series, follows Angelien through a month as a prostitute in a brothel.
The story is written by her daughter-in-law and goes into explicit details about some of the encounters she had as a sex-worker. Confidante: The Brothel is definitely not for anyone who is too squimish. It goes into some vivid details about sexual acts, things that are expected of working girls and what certain sex acts are called.
It was intense, but interesting. Seeing how and why women go into prostitution in sort of eye opening. I also enjoy Angelien’s character. Her inner thoughts are usually quite amusing and it was nice to see that aspect of things in the book. I have to say that like Angelien’s daughter-in-law a lot of the stories sound made up or exaggerated, but at the same time how could a person ever make something up with that much detail.
I enjoyed reading something different and when book two comes out I plan on checking it out so I kind find out what happened with Angelien and how she became a Madame.

I thought this book would be interesting and present a good view of things differently to the novel I reviewed yesterday. Indeed it did! Instead of being a classy escort, Angelien is just a low prostitute.
I particularly liked the short bursts of information and various annecdotes. It makes it a novel you could pick up, read for a bit, and then put down without feeling frustrated. I don't think it's an edge-of-seat book, but it has a certain allure.
It's interesting the way perceptions have and haven't changed over the times about prostitution. Everything in this novel is about sex, even her early jobs, so I imagine that she was a very attractive woman, and couldn't really help what she turned out doing. She's als very practical, which I appreciated.
There are some tense changes and a couple of dialogue things that bugged me as I read, but it was quite well written. I was happy that it was a memoir type thing, and that made it easier for me to accept the different people as people (instead of characters that hadn't been fleshed out). If they're real people, it's impossible to predict what their reactions on the personal side should be.
I'd actually be interested to read the other books in this trilogy. I'd probably give this one 4 stars for its genre, and not trying to be too high flaunting about it. If you're looking for a romance, you won't find it here, instead you'll get a quite candid look at the life of a hooker.

WHOA! This was quite the book! I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't quite it...and I like that. It was a quick read (one day) and entertaining as heck. I will definitely read the whole trilogy when it's out.

after watching shows on HBO and always having a million questions after watching shows about brothels... I was very excited to read this book.
this book is a true story about a mother-in-law and her experience in a brothel in the 1980's. This story goes into great depth about how she got into the brothel to how she ended it. Each chapter gives you more details about clients, how the job works, and what they do after work. so if you are like me and watch shows on HBO and left with a million questions. this is for you. This book also had me laughing so much I would watch were u read it so people don't think your crazy!!
My favorite part of this book is when she is talking about the perks of working in a brothel and the co-workers that she worked with. there were parts were I couldn't stop laughing and had to think about what goes on and what people say at my own job.
I honestly felt compelled and also bad at times for Angelien. Being a single mother and having to struggle, but also loving your job and being labeled as a prostitute. I know she didn't care what people think, but the ending chapters were the best for me, and also the funniest.
I personally can't wait for the next books to come out because I am left with lots of questions. this book was so great I personally think it could easily get its own TV show

Confidante: The Brothel was all about Angelien’s time working in a brothel. Angelien was a strong and confidant woman and she was the favourite of lots of clients at the brothel. The is a lot of sex in the book obviously. Angelien is a likeable woman and it is a great shame she had to do this just to support her family but it is very understandable as it was very good pay.
This book covers just a month of Angelien’s life as she wasn’t working at the brothel very long and how she tries to get out of it. But still her past comes back to her when her new boss finds out and basically gives Angelien to his wife as a birthday present without Angelien’s consent or knowledge.
It was awful that because they found out what Angelien did previously that they just expected her to do the same with them for free but also she wanted to separate her real life from the brothel work.

Wow, this has changed a lot from the first 4 volume set that I read. And it's changed for the better! It's much more of a story now and when I downloaded it and started reading, I couldn't stop! I just had to know what kind of client Angelien/Diana came across next. I was disappointed when it ended though, I wanted to read more.
The best part about this book was that it is true story but it isn't told the way other biographies are told that are about sex work. This one actually goes into detail with the sex scenes, it isn't just 'I met this guy and we did this' stuff.
I'm glad this is a trilogy, looking forward to the next one.

Confidante is a charming biography about an interesting woman. It's a sex-positve and erotic story, written in an easy, conversational style. I enjoyed reading about Angelien's sex-capades. My only reservation is that stories like this might lead readers to a false understanding of the world of prostitution. Angelien's story is rich, satisfying and intriguing. For the majority of prostitutes worldwide they have neither the choice or control in their lives the story illustrates. That said this is one of the most enjoyable erotic works I have read so far and viewed as one person's experience rather than a general rule I think it makes fascinating reading.

This is about a woman who would do anything to make ends meet for her family. When she is given the opportunity to join a brothel to earn extra money she decides that she will try anything at least once.
This story is vivid and comedic. It allows you to use all of your senses so that you feel like you are in the story. The main character is intriguing and confident. She is easy to connect with even if you are unable to relate to her. Overall a great smutty book.

"Confidante: The Brothel", the first book in the 'Confidante Trilogy', is a thrilling sexy read that will get you going. The main character Angelien is a single mom that due to financial problems takes a job in a brothel is strong and nicely developed. A nice steamy read for those who love the erotic.

This was a pretty good book it was a little too much for my taste. It was very x-rated but if you not conformable with molestation and statutory rape dif. not the book for you. They were good stories that make you atop and think about some of these stories in the everyday world.

3.5 stars. What a story. Some funny, some a little odd, and oh my a "golden shower"? Not what I expected at all but wow, what a life working in a brothel. Well written, Lilliana Anderson. I will definitely be looking into the next book in this series.

A biography written about an Australian lady who goes to work in a Brothel. A lot of the stories are hilarious and at times I found myself laughing so hard my stomach hurt. It was a quick and easy read, Looking forward to the next book in this 3 part series.

I actually really enjoyed this book: I kind of took a chance on it when I picked it but I found it fascinating - a really good insight into the sex industry. It puts it more into perspective and shows both the positives and negatives of being a working girl.

Intriguing story!
I was really pleasantly surprised in the plot line and how it ultimately made it clear Angelein didn't want to be branded a hooker, but ultimately it was the easiest way out of her dilemma.

Biographies are just so much more boring than autobiographies or semi-fiction and this is put out by what sounds like á stenographer, not someone who’d write anything with creative flare. Long to get to the point. Not exciting.

It reads like a journal with an instruction manual. Angelien has many experiences in her life. She does not seem to stay at one job for very long. Her beauty seems to be her driving factor for attracting the repeat clients.
This lifestyle apparently began at an early age and not Angelien's doing. Circumstances in her life and choices along the way carved this path of life for her.
When you open one door it opens many other doors. Angelien got to experience many different sexual parties.
While the young girls experienced problems with jealousy, Angelien did not. Maybe her age had something to do with it. Instead, it was the men who became too attached to her. Angelien had a steady following of regulars.
It seems once in the industry you never leave. Once comfortable and acquainted with this environment you continue to get offers for various other types of jobs entertaining men. This lifestyle was easy for her since she was popular and requested by the same men.
Typical of a man to turn his nose at a women for working at a brothel when it should be the men being judged for needing to go to a brothel to begin with. Angelien slept with 170 men in one month and that was only her. One woman was servicing the needs of all these men. Very rarely did she get pleasure out of the encounter. Men and women are so quick to judge, but men want sex and apparently will do anything to acquire it. Does not seem to matter if the men are gay, married, engaged, dating, or professionals. Men from all walks of life want and need sex.

Entertaining. I don't believe a word of it - can you seriously imagine someone's mother in law getting into that level of TMI, and honestly, it was a little too hot to be true. But for a short, quick read it was enjoyable enough reading.
I'm not sure I'm invested enough in Angelien to want to read further with this series, but I might if it was a free download, and the writing style was good enough to make me interested in seeing what else this author writes about.

I really enjoyed this book. I originally downloaded it on my kindle because it was free, not expecting too much. But it was a fun read. I enjoyed it so much I bought the second book and am looking forward to the final book in the trilogy.
At times the story seemed so outrageous, especially when you consider it's the story of the author's mother-in-law, Angelien's experiences working in brothels in Australia to support her 2 children. It's quite unique, and not for the judgmental or faint of heart. I was drawn in by the bawdy, sometimes explicit stories about her experiences with various clients.
I think what intrigued me most was the trust and intimacy shared between a daughter-in-law and her son's mother. I think it's a beautiful part of the story.
