Kayla, Evelyn, and Trina have been on-and-off-again girlfriends for many years, but the lines of true friendship will be crossed, the knives that go into another friend's back will cut deep, trust will not apply, and no one will share their dirty little secrets. With enough backstabbing, finger-pointing, and disrespect to go around, this trio sticks to their motto of "What she can do, I can do better; and whatever she has, I want a piece of it too." Much competition is thrown in the mix, and jealousy is so thick that there will be no place for anyone to run when the mess hits the fan. Only then will they attempt to put their many differences aside, but when severe damage is already done, it may be possible to forgive, but certainly not to forget.

I am speechless behind the drama and betrayal in this book. I couldn't put it down. I truly can't believe they call themselves friends. Specially Evelyn, she is no friend not even 2 herself. I can't wait 2 read part 2 & 3.
This book has it all drama, friendship and secrets. The characters are very relatable in the book and seem like people you know. This book is about 3 best friends that are intertwined in each others lives more ways than one. This book was hard to put down and kept me reading. With friends like these who needs enemies? Reading book 2 now because the drama is real !
I enjoyed this book for what it was. A quick urban read without all of the slang and drugs involved. I related to one of the characters so that helped me get through the book quicker. I feel like every trio of girlfriends has one of these characters in it. A user, a naive person, and a peacemaker. If I happen to pass by the next book in the library or something, I'll pick it up.
Brenda Hampton did that. I really enjoyed this book with some grown folks drama. Three female friends with separate lives, yet their lives are connected more than they realize. Betrayal, lust, death, the right amount of dramatic suspense and a touch of reality tv craziness.
Kayla,Evelyn and Trina have been best friends for a long time.Although from the outside it looks like they have such a close relationship, each woman holds a secret that can be explosive to all those around them. Can these women remain friends once the secrets are out? or Will they realize that they are really just Frenemies?
Once again Brenda Hampton has spun a tale of deceit and treachery. The characters in this story provides a great example of how you should always be careful of who you label a friend. The drama was explosive from the gate and continued throughout the book,The ending left me anticipating part 2 of this series today...Another Great Job by Brenda Hampton, she never disappoints.
Friends. I don't think so. Very good start of a story of three friends and their shenanigans. For three close girlfriends, they are oblivious to who each other really are. Guess that's why it's the frenemies series. Very good story though. On to book two. I kind of dig Brenda Hampton's style of writing. Let me go on record and say I don't care for Evelyn.
Oh my God...I'm utterly speechless.... Totally phenomenal story....this book should be called "Backstabbing: Hot and Twisted Secrets". This is my first Brenda Hampton's book, and I loved it. My heart and pulse was racing with such high anxiety as I read this book less than an hour!
The actions were so suspenful and twisted. I love Trina and Kayla but Evelyn, " why are they even friends with her" and Cedric, "he has no respect for women"....
The saying goes 'No new friends', but with frenemies like these you may just want em.
Kayla is living the good life and has all the material things to show for it, but not everything that glitters is gold. Especially when secrets are unearthed and payback is certain.
Evelyn has some secrets of her own and her thirst for a better life comes at a great cost she seems willing to pay.
Trina has been living a double life and being caught in the middle of lovers..and friends can be tiring.
Ohhh weee...if I thought the last book I read got me out of my book funk, this one has me excited to read again! It took me 4 days to read it because I was savoring this one (lol). This read was on point: the plot was engaging and flowed. The suspense from the first paragraph to the last had me reeling and the drama was climatic as well. The characters are very relatable and their interactions helped the plot flow. I liked that each character had something going on in their life that added to the storyline. The ending left me wanting more; I can't wait to read part two!
This book was an excellent read. Trina, Kayla and Evelyn have been best frenemies for years. Kayla is doing very well with her husband Cedric financially. Unbeknownst to her, Evelyn is jealous of her. Trina has been sleeping with women for a while, but her two friends are none the wiser. She uses Keith from time to time when they go out for a cover. She never thinks she will fall in love with him, but one never knows. She has no idea her female lover Lexi is a bit unstable and will cause serious problems for her. Kayla has a secret regarding her son Jacoby. She thinks Cedric doesn't know, but he does, he never says anything about it for a long time. He also has a problem being faithful to Kayla. He's sleeping with one of her friends as well. When the stuff hits the fan, it might tear these friends apart forever. Re-read in March 2015
Trina, Evelyn and Kayla have been so-called best friends for years but it has been no cake walk! Each person has had to live through their own painful circumstances. But there are certain things you would expect your BFF to refrain from doing. Not these chicks! Day by day, no forget that, hour after hour the drama unfolds and it does so to the point where you can't tell a friend from an enemy. Hence the name Frenemies! In this story, Brenda Hampton strategically uncovers enough lies, secrets and betrayal to make your neck snap. Scene by scene this story draws you in. I didn't know whether I should feel sorry for some or hate the others but with the turn of each page she kept me wanting more. Whew! Drama Galore! I enjoyed it!
This series started out very well. The saying is true keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Each friend displayed their true colors in this novel. I really could relate to how they tried to be there but some friends are just out for themselves. I really enjoyed thus and will be starting #2 & finishing it quickly. Great job Brenda Hampton looking forward to the next one!
This book has been on my list to read for a couple of years. I finally got to read it and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Kayla, Evelyn and Trina were some crazy bitches and I can’t believe they consider each other best friends. Kayla is my favorite so far. I can’t wait to read part 2 however, I hope it doesn’t take the route I think it will take. I like Kayla and don’t want her to go down.
Whew this right here was a hot read. Ms. Hampton surely did get thing with this book. I finished it within 24 hours because I just had to find out how things played out. This will definitely be a series to follow.
This series did not disappoint! I listened to the audiobook on the Hoopla app and it was JUICY! I will have to read EVERYTHING by Ms. Brenda during this pandemic. Good job.
Kayla and Trina must be the stupidest people in the whole book. How do you keep letting your “friend” continuously ruin your relationships. Evelyn might actually be the smartest person because she goes after what she wants, doesn’t care who she hurts even if it’s her “BFF’s” because she knows they’re soft, stupid and will forgive her for any and everything.
Trina how you gonna put a gun to Evelyn’s head when she tried to sleep with your man then a few weeks later be mad at your man for being stank to her when she tried to sleep with him!!!! Like bitch *slaps Trina across face*
Kayla you’re dumb too...not as dumb as Trina but still up there with her. I liked when she kept stalking Evelyn and sneaking in her slaps every now and then lol
Evelyn...you are just lost and nasty. You need prayer
Overall, the book was entertaining and I would totally recommend it to anyone. I cannot stand the ending tho. I feel like it fell flat. It’s like really Brenda?!? All this drama and you just end it like that?!? *rolls eyes*

Okay so I now feel great about being a loner. Don’t get it twisted. It would be a blessing to have true friends. Some people have mastered that. However we all have our own personalities, we like who we like and don’t like who we don’t like. It’s rare to find two or three women who can rock In the same circle with little to no confusion. It’s a blessing when you fine true friendship. And it’s even more breathtaking when you can fine a group of four or more. We all have one maybe two, but the fact is when you start to add more and more to the group, Satan will raise his ugly head and show off if you’re not careful. Now this Evelyn chick, she and I would have never made it. She’s jealous, selfish, two-faced, back biting and some other choice words I dare not use. Trina and Kayla we could have bonded. I’m curious to see how all this bonding turns out.
What the french toast...I am recovering from whiplash with all the twist turns and betrayals of this book. What happen at the end has me hot to death.....I need to know who did what and why. I must admit the main male character was horrible and I hated that the women let him treat them so poorly. And how in the world could best friends for over 20 years be so low down and crazy to each other. This was definitely a page turner!!
Hilariously funny and dramatic. The crazy twists and turns were eye-bulging. Some characters I loved and some drove me crazy! The only thing I didn’t like was the stabbing and the shooting.
The characters weren’t described as nor didn’t convince me they were these crazy, deranged people who would turn to murdering someone so the stabbing and shooting were a bit extra and uncalled for. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story and I’m on my way to reading part two!
Finished this book within a matter of hours and also my first read from this author. I have to say this novel was well written and juicy. I hated Evelyn and Kayla smh with a passion. My favorite character had to be Jacoby even though he was a minor character. I really recommend this book especially if you wanna read something surrounding friendships or ....should I say dealing with frenemies lol
This book is full of so much drama. I would’ve been finished this but I have small children. It’s such a page turner and Evelyn has made me want to fight her through the entire book. My favorite character was Trina. She’s so laid back and I love her loyalty towards the end of the book. Now that I’m done this one I’m picking up bff’s 2 as we speak
This was definitely an interesting series. Many times I wanted to tell Kayla to get a clue. My favorite part of the series was part 3. I think it takes tragedy to realize how important Family and friends are. These three b.f.f’s were one small dysfunctional family 😃
