Regina Hart's Harmony Cabins is the second book in the Finding Home series, and aside from the main romance, there are several story arcs that are clearly carried forward from the previous book and would go on in the next book. I'm reading this book out of order, but I can easily follow the whole thing despite its rather large cast of characters. The series is set in Trinity Falls, another of those wonderful small towns where the scenery is always gorgeous, everyone knows your name, and the guys are always hot.
Audra Lane is a songwriter who recently won a Grammy. Unfortunately, she's been plagued by insomnia and writer's block ever since. Her business manager decided that Audra needed a change of scenery to get her muse back, so she booked Audra to a 30-day stay at Harmony Cabins in Trinity Falls. Audra finds out only when she arrives that there is only one other person around - Jackson Sansbury, the scruffy Big Foot-lookalike whom she assumes to be the guy manning the registration desk. She would soon learn that he is actually the owner of Harmony Cabins and he's really hot once he gets a shave and a haircut. Jackson just wants to be left alone to mourn the death of his daughter some sixteen months ago, however.
Meanwhile, there are subplots revolving around Doreen Fever (yes, that's her name) who's running for Mayor. uncontested, until she realizes that her boyfriend is not happy with the idea of her doing her thing and not having him as the sole focus of her life. Also, local reporter and future hero Darius Knight's father decides to run for Mayor too, which doesn't make Darius happy as there is a strong possibility that some skeletons in the family closet may fall out as a result of his father's antics. Life in Trinity Falls is certainly nowhere as dull as Audra initially thought.
Harmony Cabins is an interesting small town romance because, unlike many that I've read recently, this one is decidedly feminist. The man who doesn't want his girlfriend to be successful is depicted as a villain, and the women in this story are not ashamed of having ambitions beyond the kitchen and the man in their lives. These women are also very supportive of one another. The feminist elements are incorporated nicely into the story without the author coming off like she's on the soapbox and banging a gravel. It's all so charming, I have to say.
Jackson is a walking wounded hero, but he's actually nice when I was initially expecting a brooding asshole who uses his issues as an excuse to be a complete jerk. He and Audra have a very sweet romance. The author builds up their romance slowly, without rushing them into bed too soon, and there is a realness to the underlying emotions between them. Unfortunately, the author often gets too heavy handed with the whole "help the guy heal again" thing - Audra frequently talks like she's a shrink milking an appearance on Oprah for all it's worth, and I can only wonder how she ends up being like that. Also, the author introduces a conflict between Audra and Jackson late in the story that, unfortunately, arises from the tired old plot device of the hero listening to someone he knows he shouldn't trust. What happens after that feel like an unnecessary backward slide when it comes to his character growth. Still, while the romance has some issues, I find it a sweet and often poignant relationship that can really get under my skin.
The subplots are also interesting in that, at first, they make me cringe because the parade of sequel baits is a little too obvious. I mean, everyone (especially the guys) of appropriate age being uniformly hot? But the subplots soon become intriguing enough and I find myself thoroughly engrossed in their stories. The whole cast is thrown at my face almost from the get go, and it takes a while for me to sort them out, but it's easy to catch up. I also like the fact that the heroine often wonders out loud about the abundance of hot guys in the neighborhood. Some self-aware humor goes a long way, heh.
I have little expectations about this story in the beginning, but by the last page, I really like what I am reading. I've never read anything by this author before, but I'm hooked by how this story can be romantic, humorous, and emotionally hard hitting all at once. It's not perfect, but it's certainly good enough for me.
After a series of shattering losses, his wife to an extramarital affair, his daughter to leukemia, all (founding son/paper owner/restaurant owner/resort owner) Jackson Sansbury wants is solitude. Hoping to escape his tiny hometown of Trinity Falls, Ohio, with its concerned neighbors and painful memories, he's purchased a secluded cabin resort and thrown himself into renovating the property. He doesn't expect any distractions--until an unlikely guest arrives--a woman who hasn't roughed it a day in her life, yet whose fearlessness just might be contagious. . .A successful (songwriter), Los Angeles native Audra Lane has come to Harmony Cabins to recharge her creativity and conquer writer’s block. She's not looking for company, but she does need a guide--and she can't help noticing the sexy, albeit grumpy, Jackson. Soon she discovers that this insightful, private man has more to teach her than how to hike and fish. And as Audra inspires Jackson to express his emotions about his daughter Zoey, the two find themselves falling in love. But neither can hide in the woods forever--and when the past brings challenges, their newfound strengths will be put to the test by her ex Wendell and his ex who returns to town for the Founder’s Day Sesquicentennial. . .
The best that can be said about this book is that it never pretends to be anything other than what it is. Harmony Cabins is a cozy romance crossed with a porn flick. Most of the book is taken up with a large cast of middle-aged to elderly people moaning about heartbreak and trying to manipulate each other. The remainder is extremely explicit (and highly improbable) sex.
The setup is conventional: two damaged people find salvation in one another's arms. Unfortunately, they seem to recover from their respective heartbreaks far faster than is believable. Hart barely bothers to sketch in Jack's character before wadding it up and changing it completely. Audra doesn't have much character development, either. By far the most interesting person in the novel is Darius, who
Blah. Competent writing and a consistently sweet tone throughout, but it jars with the XXX-rated primary love affair and the boring plot. Also, the idea that anyone would care about a small town's sesquicentennial, let alone make it the centerpiece of a major political scandal, is just stupid.
Songwriter Audra Lane, comes to Trinity Falls, OH for a month to clear her writer’s block and complete 3 songs. Her business manager is from there and recommends the quiet. Jackson “Jack” Sansbury owns Harmony Cabins. He has become a bit of a grumpy recluse since his daughter died 2 years earlier. He has fixed up the main building and 2 cabins so far. Audra falls in love with the town and the people. Her time there coincides with the town’s 150th birthday. It is one of the longest surviving African American established towns. This romance was an insta love set up. Despite Audra saying she doesn’t jump into relationships, the next day she does. The story had a ton of characters to keep straight. This is 2nd in the series so if I had read the first one it may have taken less time to figure people’s connections out. OK but probably won’t seek out more.
Audra Lane has come to Trinity Falls incognito, suffering from writer's block, and owing her music publisher several songs. The owner of the resort where she's staying, Jackson Sansbury, seems to be a gruff, unkempt individual, who looks like he would have nothing in common with Audra. Both have heartache and trust issues. And in the background are Doreen Fever, Ean's mom, who is planning on running for mayor, and Darius' father, Simon, who is planning on running against her.
I enjoyed the blooming relationships, but there was too much contentiousness. If a story needs conflict, this one had it in spades. There were probably at least 7 sources of conflict, all with obvious solutions. I liked the characters well enough. The story arc was predictable and familiar. I will say the author did a lovely job weaving the tale of 2 people discovering one another and themselves in the process. Some people make it easy to become a better version of yourself.
Jackson Sansbury lives in a small town, Trinity Falls, where everyone knows everyone and they are all like a family. Jack has secluded himself off from the rest of the community for almost 3 years because he is grieving the loss of his daughter and has thrown himself into renovating the property of Harmony Cabins. That is, until Audra Lane, a successful songwriter from Los Angeles develops writer’s block and decides to go to Harmony Cabins to recharge her creativity. Audra inspires Jack to express his emotions and the two find themselves falling for each other. Each of them has a past that brings challenges to this budding new relationship which puts their strengths to the test.
Regina Hart has done an exceptional job. Her character development was on point. I was very attached to the characters from the beginning and I found myself talking out loud and laughing at some of them. She is an awesome story teller drawing me in completely. It was almost as if I was actually there. Her writing was very detailed and the love scenes had the right amount of passion and heat minus the explicit explanation but leaving nothing to the imagination.
I also enjoyed the subplots as much as I did the main plot. There was never a dull moment and she held my interest throughout the story. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
I won Harmony Cabins: A Finding Home Novel by Regina Hart from Goodreads. Harmony Cabins is a romance novel about a man who carries the emotional weight of a tragic past and a woman who is seeking to rejuvenate her spirit. In an effort to break writer's block, songwriter Audra Lane travels from Los Angeles to stay at Harmony Cabins, a remote property, not yet open for business, that is being renovated by owner Jackson Sansbury. Jackson has been a recluse since the death of his six year old daughter two years prior. I loved many things about this book. The setting is interesting; the town nearby the cabins, Trinity Falls, is full of plenty of characters that readers will want to get to know better. The main characters are complex and extremely likable. The story of how each of these characters overcome his and her own hurdles to find happiness is compelling. The author also weaved into the main story several subplots that promise future stories. A great read!
Harmony Cabins by Regina Hart Book starts out with Andrea posing as Penny Lane and arriving in Trinity Falls, Ohio for a month. Jack is not only the owner but the desk clerk and he has past issues that he needs to get over and finds himself fascinated by Andrea. The town has it's problems with the race for a new mayor. Lots of drama going on and it's easy to keep the characters straight. Love all the things Jack and Andrea do together as he finds out about why she is in town for a full month... Sex scenes. Things become complicated with the townsfolk as the festival is upon them....excerpt from the next book in the series, about other townsfolk is included at the end. Good read, kept my interest. I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review
Harmony Cabins (Finding Home #2) by Regina Hart is a contemporary romance set in a close knit town in Ohio. The primary story is between Audra, a songwriter from LA who needs a quiet place to cure her writer's block and Jack, the taciturn owner of the cabin she rents who is a man with a tortured past...but this story is multifaceted bringing in other characters with their own interesting storylines. I especially liked Doreen's story--an energetic widow who is just discovering the courage to pursue her dreams. I would recommend this book as an enjoyable read. I received Harmony Cabins at a Goodreads giveaway in return for an honest review.
Book 2 of the Finding Home series is a great read. Was good to continue learning about many of the characters from book 1, and to see the start of a romance between the reclusive Jackson and songwriter Audra Lane, who needs solitude so that she can recharge her creative muse.
Ms. Hart beautifully weaves plot, setting, and characters together into an amazing book. Can't wait for book 3 to be released!
Regina Hart has written a heartwarming, funny, laugh out loud story. This story shows the struggle to overcome grief and loss can be made and friendship, family and love can endure. After the loss of his daughter, Jackson became a recluse. Audra is suffering from writers block after a disastrous relationship. While both are wrangling with their demons, they come together and learn to live, laugh and love again.
once again Regina Hart touches our soul in the small town of Trinity Falls, Ohio. Audra "Penny Lane" escapes to Trinity Falls to relax and getting her writing mojo back. While on the other side of the coin Jackson Sandsburg has closed himself off from the word to deal with his grief. Reading Trinity Falls, I found my self laughing and crying. understanding the agony of these two people. Well written and engaging story, thank you Regina.
I won this book through goodreads..this book was pretty good. Romance and drama all in one. I shed tears with Jack's Past. I didn't mind the side stories with the other town characters, but found it a bit excessive. I really just wanted to read about jack and Audra. Otherwise, it was a good read and recommend it to anyone who loves this genre. Regina Hart writes very well.
Harmony Cabins is the 2nd book in the Trinity Falls series. We catch up on the people from the first book and introduce Jack, the owner of the cabins, and one of his guest, Aubra Lane, songwriter from LA. Jack begins to change after the loss of his daughter. very real with a touch of heat in this relationship.
Harmony Cabins is another great story by Regina Hart in the Finding Home series. This is the story of Jack and Audra but we also get to revisit all the lovely folks of Trinity falls and learn a little more about it. I look forward to reading more stories about this town and it's occupants. Really looking forward to what's going to happen with the sexy reporter, Darius.
Great book. I recieved this book in the mail through a giveaway and finished it that same day. Loved how the author based these books in the town. Reminds me so much of the small town I come from, with the drama and romances. One of my favorites.
Light and easy read, flowed smoothly and well written. I did not become too involved with or attached to any of the characters, so I did become bored at times.
I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads and it was my first time to read from this author. It's a love story between two people with very different backgrounds who were drawn together through an attraction that surprised them both. Good storyline and read.
As usual Regina Hart has but together a wonderful story that makes you wantto move to beautiful and delightful Trinity Falls. Jack and Audra's story reads like a love story of two people wanting to share themselves without regrets.
Regina Hart has done it again. Harmony Cabins is the perfect sequel in the Finding Home series. Jack and Audra along with the other Trinity Falls residents will have you wanting more.
I love this series. I want to pack up and move to Trinity Falls, Ohio like right now. I hope she continues the series for at least 5 more books. I want to read about marriages and babies from this great group of friends.
