The author of the acclaimed Vietnam series sets his sights on World War II.
There are few things Roman loves as much as baseball, but his country is at the top of the list. So when it looks like the United States will be swept up into World War II, he turns his back on baseball and joins the US Army.
Roman doesn't mind. As it turns out, he is far more talented with a tank than he ever was with a baseball. And he is eager to drive his tank right into the field of battle, where the Army is up against the fearsome Nazis of the Afrika Korps.
The North African terrain is like nothing Roman has ever known, and desert warfare proves brutal. As Roman drives his team deeper into disputed territory, one thing becomes very clear: Life in wartime is a whole new ball game.

The author Chris Lynch, revels some important insights about WW2 and the eyes of the soldiers who fought in the bloody, terrible war where 75 million people died. The author emphasis on the life of Roman and sheds some light on WW2 and him "wanting to get then Naziz" and make it back home to his wife. The author sets his work at the beginning of WW2 and him getting shipped off to Africa where he will fight for the next 6 Months against some resistance and then the Nazis that he wanted to get This is significant because it shows that he is determined to get the Nazis in the sweltering heat to get Nazis and, when he was in Africa he and his tank crew grew a strong bond between each other and became great lifetime friends. In my opinion, this novel was great I loved it so much since it was based on a real event that a love learning about, WW2 and the characters were super entertaining and funny but also serious when needed. To me, it seems obvious that the antagonist in this book had to endure many hardships but they seemed to overcome them. And to me that also stands out is that i kinda felt in their shoes a little bit when they were in battle it was written so good. I felt the author was hoping to make us interested in this in this genre of books which he did and to make us feel that we were there with the soldiers which he also did. The characters are Roman, commander Cowens, Logan and, Wyat. They all struggle with the sights of war and war it self almost killing them all when a tank shell hits the top of their tank almost killing them all in a instant. The character Roman, develops how to face fear when everyone else is scared and he also learns to forget all the terrible things around him like, fighting, famine and, homelessness and instead of focusing on that he focus on his mission and getting the bad guys.
#2 The book World War II Book 1: The Right Fight by Chris Lynch, is a good book for you if you like sports and war. This book is about a young man named Roman. He loves baseball and his girlfriend. He wants to serve his country, so he leaves everything behind and joins the army during World War II. He becomes a tank driver in North Africa for the allied forces. I think that wanting (and doing) a duty to fight for his country is wonderful but i’m not sure that it was the best risk to go and fight. He could be killed and not be able to get married to his sweetheart. Then again lots of things like this happened were these teenage boys get killed and that leaves a sad family, girlfriend, and community. This book made me feel pretty sad. It shows what war really is. Typically you would think that war is where you go out and kick the enemies behind, but really there are casualties on both sides. It is not easy to kill, even the enemy that is shooting at you. When Roman is behind enemy lines and gets ambushed, he sees combat that completely affects the rest of his life. The theme of this book is teamwork. When each person in the tank is doing their job correctly, they don’t get blown up. They do the blowing up. This book was pretty good, but there was not a lot of comedy and moves slowly.
The book that I read is called The Right Fight by Chris Lynch. I would recommend this book because it was a good quick read and I didn’t want to put it down once I started. If someone was looking for a book with a different twist on World War 2 then this is the book. When I started to read the book it starts off with baseball and towards the middle of the book it starts to transition into World War 2. The book starts off with baseball. I didn't really understand why until I got into the first couple of chapters. While I was reading the book it stated that Roman, the main character, loves to play baseball but he injured his ankle and now he can’t play like he wants anymore. The book also stated that the nazis hate baseball and that is the other reason that he is still playing. Now it is the end of the season and Roman has filled out his draft papers and he is headed off to the army. When Roman gets into the army, he goes to basic training and while he is there he gets placed into a tank. He first starts off as the assistant tank driver, then he progresses to full-time tank driver because he found out driving tanks is his hidden talent. Roman finds out that he likes driving tanks and being in the army way more than he likes to play baseball. All in all the book The Right Fight by Chris Lynch was a quick and easy read. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a story about war and wants a different twist to the whole outlook of the book.
This book is an honest and engaging look at how so many young men left their lives back home to join the war effort to take down Hitler and the Nazis. I enjoyed hearing the perspective of the main character as he struggled with his decision to enlist and what he encountered after he did. At times the book was a bit slow, especially in the beginning, but because it is a series, I have a feeling the following books will be even more interesting and action packed.
Plot Summary:
"World War II Book 1: The Right Fight" describes one man's decision to join the army during WWII and the realities he encounters along the way. To start, Roman "Chief" Bucyk is a semi-pro baseball player in the Red Sox organization. As the war in Europe heats up, he decides to leaves his beloved world of baseball and enlist in the Army to join the war effort. He spends many months in training before he is sent to Africa to fight the Nazis and the Afrika Korps. Along the way, he is trained and becomes quite talented as a tank driver while forging strong relationships with his fellow soldiers. As they travel through Africa fighting opposing forces, he and his comrades witness things they have never seen before and experience life changing situations.
Character Desciptions:
Roman Bucyk: Roman is a lover of baseball and takes his dwindling baseball career very seriously. That all changes when he finds himself drawn to the war in Europe and feels compelled to leave baseball and his new fiancé behind to join the effort. A natural leader, Roman excels at operating tanks and soon finds himself the go-to guy in his crew.
Pacifico: Pacifico is Roman's co-pilot in the tank and an overall sensitive guy. He was drafted and therefore never wanted to be a part of the war in the first place. He quickly finds himself in some scary situations that don't help to put his mind at ease. As things progress, Pacifico begins to experience extensive hearing loss that progressively makes his job more difficult.
Logan: Logan is the gunner in the tank and one of the more enthustic guys when it comes to fighting and taking down Nazis. Like Roman, Logan also enlisted and can't wait for the next combat situation so he can do what he loves most, shoot!
Wyatt: Wyatt's job in the tank is to keep the guns loaded and like Pacifico, he was also drafted into the war. He is often confused about what is happening, not only in regards to what he and his crew are supposed to be doing but also about the war in general. He quickly becomes the butt of jokes in his crew because of inquisitive nature and never ending questions.
Cowens: Cowens is the tank commander and therefore, leader of the group. He is an experienced veteran, having spent time fighting in the Spanish Civil War. He is decisive and knowledgable which make the men in his crew respect him and look to him for direction at every turn.
Key Issues:
war, WWII, Nazis, Hitler, Afrika Korps, Africa, tank, resistance, Allied forces, enlist, drafted, combat, struggle, death, decisions
{My thoughts} – Roman is a fun character. He loves baseball and is a ball player for the Red Sox. He also loves Hannah and proposes to her before he heads off to war. He and Hannah write letters to one another throughout the book. There is a lot that happens through the book, but it covers mostly Romans tour during the War. He is a tank driver and his crew and him go through a lot.
There are a few points in the book where he lets his ego get the best of him. This shows mostly in the letters that he writes to Hannah. He tells her how he feels about things and she replies back that she doesn’t think he should be thinking in that way. He doesn’t like hearing that, but accepts it and he goes on about his tour.
He writes her telling her that he thinks when the war is over all his buddies he has been with on the tour should come over. Then she tells him that it sounds like a fine idea, but that isn’t exactly they outcome.
I really enjoyed reading this book as I love to read nearly anything based on WWII. However, this book was more concentrated on the war as opposed to what the war was doing. It was a nice change of pace for me and I look forward to reading more in this series soon. If you’d like to learn about Roman and his crew and well also Hannah – you should give this book a read! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I had.
Roman wants to fight the Nazis, and he knows that it's coming. So he signs up, and joins the Army's Tank Division. Only he's not sent to fight, they train. Train and then train some more. Even after Pearl Harbor, they are sent to Ireland to train. Finally his division is sent to North Africa to battle it out.
Why I started this book: I liked I Pledge Allegiance Vietnam series and I was eager to read his World War II.
Why I finished it: This book gets an extra star from me because Roman spent so much time training and it showed their initial defeats in North Africa before eventual victory. Most people will think that it's boring, but I loved the historical accuracy!
What happens in the book the Right Fight is this guy named Roman plays baseball. He later gets married to his wife Elizabeth. After playing baseball for so long Roman decides he will go fight for out country. He drives tanks around for the U.S. army. Roman gets into a lot of trouble along the way. Roman and Elizabeth send letters back and forth to each other to tell the other one what is going on because Roman is in Africa, while Elizabeth is in the United States. I rated this book a 3 star because the book kinda of got boring throughout. It also lost a lot of my interest, but at some times the book got to be really good. I probably wouldn't recommend this book to somebody because it gets boring a lot of times.
Lynch's Vietnam series, and now this WWII series, are great reads for reluctant readers. A look at war without profanity and gruesomeness (there is, of course, death...because how could you avoid it), these are great for students who enjoy reading about war, loyalty, and friendship.
Much like the Vietnam series, this series will follow a group of four men--this time minor league baseball players--who enlist in the four different military branches. Roman, in the Army, is the first to tell his story in this first installment, and I was glad to see the WWII battles in northern Africa addressed. These are rarely talked about or written about--and I have a feeling many of my students aren't even aware that WWII battles took place there.
The Right Fight was about a young man named Roman who played baseball in the Eastern Shore League. As the baseball season is ending World War 2 has just begun and Roman wants in. He finds his calling driving a tank with a small crew who are sent to North Africa. The story revolves around Roman and his crew as they fight their way through the rough North African terrain. I thought the book was pretty good. It did a great job of describing the experience of a young man during the war and also taught me some new things. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes tanks or is interested into what happened in North Africa during World War 2.
In this book there where a special tank team. There where four of them. they traveled from Africa to Germany. The team has just now joined the war and the war has just began. They have been through enough. Hannah and her husband joined the army but Hannah joined a the peace corps. He asked to marry her before he left to the war during the baseball game. Hannah is worried if he will come back but its in his choice to survive or die.
I thought the book "the right flight" was very inspirational and that is why i rated it a 4/5. I thought that it was inspirational because Roman loves baseball and he decides to go off and fight it the army for baseball. While Roman was fighting in the army his girlfriend Hannah and him send letters back and forth to keep in touch.I recommend this book to my classmates because it is very inspirational and very inspiring to read.
This is a book about a man named roman loving two thing and only two thing the army and baseball, but the United states were looking like they were getting swept into the World War 2, he turns his back on baseball and joins the army, and it turns out he is better with a tank then he ever was with baseball.I would recommend this book to kids or adults who like action and baseball as well as the army.
in this book the main character is a teenage boy named Roman Bucyk that plays baseball and has dreams of joining the army to protect the country he loves and to protect the one he loves her name is Hannah she is also a baseball player and even better one than Roman she also has dreams of joining the army but unlike Roman she does not want to join the tank
I thought that The Right Fight was a good book, but I did not care for the ending. The beginning was really good i wish that it talked a little bit more about his Baseball career. This book, like basically every other book it had a little bit of romance but i don't think that is was too bad.
In the book The Right Fight, the main character Roman is going to Europe to fight the axis powers and force Germany to surrender causing them to lose the war. The book begins with the main character Rubin in a dugout on a baseball field. He is playing a baseball game with all the drafts because they are going to Europe the next day. Roman has had a injury to his achilles tendon making him not be able to hit as well. His girlfriend Hanna who is a very good softball gives him her necklace to remember her bye. The next day they get on a giant carrier ship that will take them to northern Ireland so they can train to get used to the climate that they will be fighting in. I think that this part is one of the best because it shows how long you have to wait before you can do anything in war and it also gives them a lot of time to themselves so they can think about the people in their lives. Turns out that Roman is very good at driving so they put him in a tank and he excelled and he was put into the first tank armored division where he would meet his squad. He finally gets to Germany he is greeted by the bad part about war to where he looks up in the sky and see’s planes, smoke, and hears sirens from time to time and he can also hear people in the hospital screaming and moaning in pain. He finally get deployed and his tank unit manages to hit a plane that was just about to lift off to where they see the pilot jump out and he’s on fire running around to where he gets shot by infantry and this will always be with Rubin. Rubin gets back to have a somewhat successful mission and that is all I will write about this book.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 due to Major theme of the book and Personal connections that I made.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because of the major theme of the book which I think it would be always try to spend as much time with your loved ones as you can and try to make good memories with them.
I said this because in the book Roman is writing to his girlfriend and is nervous that he won’t be able to come home to her or that something might happen to her.
I also say that this theme is important because of how important the people you care about care about you as well and even though you might have some rough times with them they still care about you This is one reason I give the book a 4 out of 5 because of the major theme
The second reason I rate the book the way I do is because of the personal experience I have had with my grandpa who is dead of cancer but he he had some experiences similar to what this book is
My grandpa was in the navy but the part that I say is relatable is the waiting that you have to do before anything actually happens
So this is the second and last reason why I rated the book the way that I did Closing sentence In conclusion I think this book is a 4 out of 5 because of the major theme of the book and the personal/ relatable experiences that I have I also believe that the story is just brilliant and it makes me feel like I was actually there ·

Frist we will start out with a not-so brief summery of the exposition/rising action. On the very first couple of pages the reader is introduced to your main character of the first book, Roman Bucyk. When we are introduced to him we find out that he is a baseball fanatic and he is in his last game of the season, it is also his last day at home before he is put into training for the war. We are also introduced into his team and two of the other players on the other team. One of the players on his team is called Nardini who I can only assume is part of one of the other books in the series, just like the two on the other team that are introduced in a…strange way. They are Theo and Hank McCallum, Theo is the main character of the 3rd book and the reasoning behind my conclusion about Nardini. We also find out about Romans love interest, Hanna. They often write to each other thought the story. The story begins with Roman on the Red Sox against the McCallum Brothers on the A’s. After a problematic call by Roman, the game ends with Roman, Hank, Theo, and Nardini at the plate waving away at their friends and family in the stands knowing they will be leaving them soon. Eventually Roman starts training as assistant driver/gunner. But after getting through training he is promoted to lead driver with his crew. His crew consist of Sargent Boyd, the commander, Pacifico the assistant driver and machine gunner, Commander Cowens the main gunner, Logan who mans the 75-mm cannon, and the loader, Wyatt. They are eventually loaded up into the Queen Mary, their transport ship to Algeria, North Africa. They start the invasion and head through Africa to Italy. If you haven’t figured it out by now the book is a WWII series on different people per book in the series. The first one is The Right Fight, by Chris Lynch. It is written in first person from Romans perspective. The two main moods of the story are seriousness and light hearted. I really like this book, the thing that astounds me the most is how precise the author can tell what is going on around them and what the expression the other characters have on their faces. One thing that really stands out for me is how Chris Lynch does his notes, they aren’t in the normal typed up writing but in an actual way that looks like they wrote it, and the feelings behind the notes are just incredible. There is one thing that I dislike about it though, it is kind of too much detail in some parts, like the beginning with the training and ball game took about 15 pages. This story of Roman evoked many emotions out of me from all different parts and I will probably come back to read it again.
The book World War 2, The Right Fight: Book one By Chris Lynch, has so far been a pretty good book. The Protagonist Roman Bucyk is living in his prime during World War 2. Roman plays in an amateur baseball league, and is very eager to get involved in the war. The season has come to an end and Roman is sent to basic training in the United States Army. The Japanese attacks Pear Harbor on December 7th, 1941, and Roman has his wish to fight in the war, granted. The main character enjoyed the sport of baseball and he enjoyed the company of his girlfriend, Hannah; Nevertheless, he was very eager to join the war. Roman ended up as a tank driver in the war, and has been deployed to Africa.
The wide variety of setting, and the brief explanations of each setting is pleasing to the mind, and pleasant for the imagination. The main character goes from a loud, dusty baseball stadium, to a calm, yet stern transport ship that is taking American G.I.s to the United Kingdom to await deployment. The setting then changes from the Cold shores of Ireland, to the hot, barren land of Africa. The writer does a good job of transitioning both the character and the reader through the various settings.
That was as far as I got in the book, but it seems as though it is a wholesome story, and that the rest of the series could be just as such. The language in the book is not too complex, but the author applies a broad enough vocabulary to keep the book from becoming dull. The situations and scenarios that the main character is ran through during the beginning of the book, seem almost stereotypical for a character of that time. The Stereotypes are such as a young American boy who loves the sport of baseball, his girlfriend, and his country more than anything. It should be said thought that during those times, that would have been the norm, not many people growing up in the United States felt much differently from the main protagonist does.
The way that the story is written, and its narrative is straight to the point, and genuine. There aren’t any tricks, there aren’t any real puzzles to try and solve, it is just straight forward writing that can, and will deliver a good, meaningful story about a young patriot in the 1940’s.
This book by Chris Lynch is an addicting read. The books about a kid named Roman who's abscessed with baseball. He meets this girl named Hannah who also plays Baseball. They're at his last game of the season and his friend Nardini is trying to steal her. So there playing and Nardini wails a bomb. He tries flirting with Hannah, trying to steal her from Roman. So Roman goes to bat and he strikes out even though he's the captain. So after a fight breaks out with the other team Hannah bails Roman out. He then asks her to marry him. She says that if he wears this scapular she'll wait for him. So after the game he goes to tank training. Then more training hes is sent to Northern Ireland to meet his tank crew and train. Then finally gets sailing to North Africa. With his crew Pacifico ( assistant driver), Logan( gunner), Wyatt( loader), and Commander Cowens ( commander). They invade this French naval fort in Nigeria. They over run the french forces and take the fort. They then exterminate some more french men at this hill defense. Taking out french tanks and Artillery. They then head up to more french and Nazi. They were attacked on the way by a air raid by the Nazis. They won of course and headed for there destination. They spend a night at this spot and Roman meets these desert raiders. They take him to site of the air attack on Romans division he sees all the downed planes. He even sees the pilot who looked him dead in the eye. Once there done they take Roman back to his tank and crewman. When Cowens asks what he was doing Roman tells him he was just taking a stroll. They go to this town where a large division of Nazi Panzer's they approach but are going into the middle of the two Panzer lines. They keep firing at them and finally brake off. They head back to there base camp to refuel and resupply. During the night the Nazis take the canyon way they have to pass. So when there armor division has to fight some Tigers they attack and follow them. Going right into the pass and are fired upon. Its a hailstorm or 88 mm shells. The tiger shoots of Romans tank turret killing Wyatt, Logan, and Cowens. Roman and Pacifico are then rescued somehow and live. They recover a few weeks and are put in a half truck with another person. Yet it isn't long until there dispatched back home.
The Right Fight, the first book of a series written by Chris Lynch, is a historical, fictional novel for young readers based on World War Two. The main character is Roman, who is a semi pro baseball player in the Eastern Shore baseball league. Roman has three loves in his life; baseball, his girlfriend/fiancé Hannah, and his country. Can he love all three or, will he ultimately have to chose one?
When I read this book, I see an all American boy next door. He is honest, truthful, disciplined, righteous, hard working, and honorable. He loves his fiancé dearly, (they write to each other every week while Roman is away), and he protects his friends fiercely. As mentioned in page 140, “he carries his deaf, wounded friend to safety”. He also knows his country is in danger because of the war, and wants to help. However, this means giving up his passion which is his baseball career.
Roman’s personality traits are important to the theme, but so is the setting. The setting starts out on a hot baseball field and transforms into a dry, barren battlefield in Africa. Whether a wooden, brown Louisville Slugger baseball bat or a green, mechanical metal tank; umpires on the baseball field giving plays, or a military Captain on the battlefield giving orders; the theme shines through - sometimes we give up the things we love for the greater good. As stated on page 22, "Fighting for my baseball life is obviously stupid right now. Fighting for baseball, though. That I can do. That makes all the sense in the world". Without a country, there is no baseball. There is no passion.
So, does Roman have to chose? Can he, and we, fight the right fight, (as the title suggests), and live true to our values in any situation? Isn't the "right fight" really fighting for the right thing. I do believe so. For this reason, I recommend the book, because it reminds me of the importance of good decisions, sacrifice and helping others.
Chris Lynch the author of The right fight explains some important details about world war 2. He gives details in the perspective of the soldiers and the men that fought in the bloody war where 75 million people died. He explains that he can't wait till the war is over because he wants to go home to his wife. Chris Lynch starts his story at the beginning of world war 2 when he is shipped to Africa for the next 6 months he also wanted to fight with the Nazi this significant because it shows how determined he is to fight in war. When they were in Africa him and his tank crew grew a close bond with each other and became friends throughout life. This novel is a great book because it teaches you about war in the perspective of the soldiers. This book was written so well I felt like I was in their place when they were in battle. I felt like the author was trying to make it so that the person reading this book felt like they were with the soldiers and he did a great job of that. The characters are commander Cowens, Roman, , wyat and Logan. They all have a hard time with the sight of war and war itself. They all almost died when a tank shell hit the top of their tank almost killing them all. Roman teaches himself how to face fear when his fellow soldiers are scared he also teaches himself how to forget about all the bad things that happen in war and in life. He tries to focus on his mission and getting the enemies instead of worrying about all the bad things that have happened to him in his lifetime.
This book was a bit disappointing. I understand that it is a book for young readers, but there are a few problems I had with it. First, the book is just far too short and jumps over too much. I would have preferred the events to be described in more detail. This is labeled as the first book in a series, but even beyond the fact the book would continue in other volumes, this book could have included much more description of events and action. The beginning of the book doesn't connect much with the rest of the book, and there are epistolary sections between the main character and his fiancee that felt incongruous with the rest of the story. The book is for kids, but it goes into some historical details of which most kids would not be informed. You need historical background on World War II to get this book. Anyway, this book did not satisfy. It felt like a book for kids who don't like to read. There are some elements I really liked. The narrator's voice and the dialogue are all very distinct and clearly thought out to reflect 1940s lingo. The book is not written in a modern voice, so you can feel that the story is set in the past despite of a lack of other descriptions of the time period. I also thought the ending of the book had powerful moments, even though they were largely glossed over in the last chapter. Ultimately, the story was good, but the pacing felt uneven. Some elements are rushed through and others don't seem to matter that much.
The Right fight is a book, about people fighting in WWII. The main characters are Roman, General Cowens, Hannah, Wyatt, Logan and Pacifico. The story takes place in Africa. Roman fights battles in Africa. There were planes that were attacking them. Roman makes friends with Wyatt, Logan and General Cowens. Roman is a soldier in the war. Wyatt, Pacifico and Logan are soldiers. Hannah is Roman's girlfriend and is very good at baseball. In the beginning of the book Roman feels frustrated because he is tired of training and he is ready for real war battles. Then, Pacifico loses his hearing in one ear. Next, The troops are sent to Africa . Romen’s job was assistant tank driver in the war. All of the people were in charge of different jobs. In the end, Roman almost dies in the war. Roman has to write letters to Hannah and tells her that Wyatt and Logan died. My favorite character is Pacifico because he is strong and confident. He is strong because he stayed in the war when he lost his hearing in one ear. He is confident because he helped Roman in the the war. I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because I liked the book and if you like war things you would like this book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about war, anyone who likes historical fiction books, and if you like to read about baseball and don't care if you read about war the first part of the book is about baseball. Roman loves baseball, but loves his country even more. When the U.S. entered the war he felt he had to participate and help out his country. He made this decision knowing he would be leaving his baseball dream behind. It turns out that he can drive a tank way better than he could ever play baseball. The author did a good job in making this book. It is well thought out and easy to follow along to. I like how in the book their is stick letters painting a picture of the diary that they are reading. I also like how they use quotes to show when their is a conversation between characters. The quotes help make it less confusing allowing you to follow along easier. Another thing the author did good is his word choice. He used clanking instead of just tapping, or how he used clever not just smart to further paint a picture in your mind of what is happening in the book. Even thought the author did a good job their is always room for improvement. A thing he can improve is his his sentence length. He has a lot more lengthy sentences than short sentences. This can cause the book to seem to get a little long in some parts. This is a way the author can improve his writing.
I liked that Roman’s bond with his fellow soldiers adds heart to the story, showing how soldiers rely on each other emotionally and physically. And that Roman Bucyk starts out unsure of himself, making his growth into a brave, skilled tank operator feel realistic and inspiring. I disliked that Roman follows a familiar “young man finds purpose through war” storyline, which may feel clichéd to some readers seeking originality. I disliked that at the start, Roman may come off as a bit one-dimensional, more focused on baseball and patriotism than deeply thinking about the realities of war. This book did meet by expectations because of how the book provides a clear, accessible look at the North African campaign through the eyes of a relatable young soldier. And because of Roman’s growth from a hopeful baseball player to a mature soldier, finding his journey inspiring and realistic for younger audiences. I would recommend this book to Middle-grade and teen readers interested in World War II but new to historical fiction. The book I think is similar to this book is Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes, A dual-perspective WWII novel showing American and German soldiers.
The Right Fight is a book about people fighting in WWII. The main characters are Roman, General Cowens, Hannah, Wyatt, Logan, and Pacifico. Roman fights battles in Africa. Roman is a soldier who becomes friends with Pacifico, Wyatt, Logan, Cowens, Roman, and Hannah who are also soldiers in the war. Hannah is Roman’s girlfriend. In the beginning of the book, Roman feels frustrated because he is tired of trainIng and is ready for real war battles. Next, Roman and the soldiers are going to Africa. Roman’s job was being a tank driver in the war. Finally, Roman almost dies in the war. Roman writes many letters to Hannah to stay strong. My favorite character in this book is Roman. I chose this character because he was brave in the war. He was brave to fight in battles and he didn’t give up. He was also my favorite character because he plays baseball which is a fun sport. I give this book 5 stars! It was full of excitement and adventure. If you like war books, this is a good book for you.
I'm glad I read Lynch's "The Right Fight." It is just right for Middle Schoolers (MG). Not because it's such a great WWII story describing battle after battle. No, because it describes what's going on in the mind of one young man, named Roman, who became a Sherman tank driver in Northern Africa. Lynch tells the story of friendships and brotherly bonds between men in the same predicament. He shows that although men were in the Army, sometimes those armies only consisted of a few men.
I recommend this book for those looking for the common worries, sights, and sounds of war that are not always included in war stories. This story pointed out that experience matters and how valuable it is to have for those who lead.
There is some death and loss in this story. It's inevitable, but it is written in a poignant way. It also may educate the reader on how the early part of WWII was fought in the deserts of Northern Africa.
This book is Book 1 of 4. While it starts out I #1 with a baseball game - the books are about 4 playeers in that baseball game --- Roman Buyck - Nick Nardini - Theo McCallum and Hank McCalluum. The two McCallum brothers are on the Other Team.
After the game - the Mayor calls all of them forward so that he can praise all the fine young men for going off to war - World War II.
Roman Buyck goes into the Army -the topic of the first book. Nardini goes into the Marines. Theo McCallum goes into the Air Corps and Hank McCallum goes into the Navy. Each of the other books is about them.
In this book Roman Buyck finds that he loves tanks. Tanks are his specialty. The book is about his actions during the final days of World War II.
Of course there is a bit of romance. Roman gets engaged to the love of his life - Hannah - before he goes off to war.
I chose to read the novel World War II The Right Fight by Chris Lynch. I rate this novel 4 out of 5 because of dramatization and the suspense and tragedies of war. The plot is when the main character Roman Bucyk gives up his love for baseball and joins the US Military. Roman Bucyk gave up his love for baseball to become a tank driver in the army. After months of training Roman begins to fight Nazis in North Africa. He comes to the realization that war is terrible and unpredictable but he still manages to keep his faith and his love for his country strong. He is determined to help his country and arrive home safely. I liked the novel because of the historical events that took place in WWII as well as the emotions that I felt while reading the novel.
Roman is Impulsive. When the the German dive bomber pilots dive at him and The British officer as its diving he shoots the person in the plane as its moving without running or hiding. He just does it . The text states "Both desert Groupers duck the bullets just as the second pilots face appears, gritting, snarling, all teeth and hate, and my pistol already in my hand and I pump a bullet".(143) This proves he is impulsive because he did not give it much thought he just did it. Even though the plane is going very fast he doesn't even give it second thought. He did it without thought or reasoning with is thus impulsive.
