It has one of my pet peeves.

On the first page of the book. Hero is doing the nasty with OW while the heroine watched and heroine saying it's erotic. Hero was aware that he was being watched by heroine. He drank the blood of ow while doing it too. I Hated that too.

Ok, Vampires, motorcycles, Vampires on Motorcycles in a MC Club...nough Said!!!

Description:

ane 'Viper' Tepes is one of the oldest living descendants of Vlad III. Vampire is in his blood. So is being the President of the Sons of Sangue. Those who break motorcycle club rules that protect their coven are dealt swift punishment. No exceptions. Until one pretty little detective has him compromising his beliefs, and endangering his position as head of the MC.

Vampire had Cara Brahnam turning tail and leaving behind her life in Pleasant. Now, ten years later, she's back as lead detective and wants to see the person responsible for draining the women of Lane County brought to justice, no matter what deal the gang of miscreants has struck with the sheriff. Or the fact that her number one suspect is the sole reason she fled in the first place.

Now someone has targeted Cara as the next victim and Kane must join in the hunt to find the ancient vampire that wants her dead.

My Thoughts:

I liked it...has all the things I loved in it. Vampires, bad boys, motorcycle clubs and combining all three is awesome!!!!

The book itself has a "dark" feel to it with the "Rave" and Viper's mental outlook on life. It is gritty, edgy, and exactly what I like in some of my MC books. I liked the realistic points woven into the story. The fact that MC are on the "other" side of the law, that these ones will kill people to protect their 'truth'. The plot was a bit plodding at times but usually when there is a world to build such as the MC club in this one the first book of a series tends to be a bit slower than book that come later. I thought PR did a fabulous job at character building and even her secondary characters were strong. I enjoyed that the 'villain' of the piece was only connected through Viper's ex. I am sure we have not seen the last of her for some reason.

I think I have 2 big complaints which is why this book lost a star for me. I didn't *feel* the connection with Kane and Cara. I felt the tension, the attraction but not the love. It was more possession. I really wanted to *feel* Viper's love for Cara. I also felt the ending was really rushed. Like the author said "oh damn, it was only supposed to be X number of pages long better end it" I'm sure that is not what really happened but that is what I felt. I would like to have seen one or two more of the different threads tied up than what she did at the ending. Or elaborate on some so that we know it will be addressed in a forthcoming book. However, her characters are strong and I can't wait to read Viper's twins book. I already feel the chemistry between those 2 characters.

A solid 4 star read for me and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. If you like dirty, gritty biker stories and PNR this is a great book for you:)

Before I give you my synopsis and review I must tell you all that it has been a while since I have gone and read a new paranormal romance. I have my mainstays, and I am now very picky with what I pick up, because if you saw my TBR pile, you would run for the hills... yup, that bad. So I put down my Highlanders and my Cowboys for a bit and I picked up Viper: Sons of Sangue by Patricia A. Rasey. Needless to say, I was a goner from the first scene... a very hotttt one at that. Not only do we have extremely attractive Vampires, but these Vampires are in a motorcycle gang. BRILLIANT.

We meet Kane (Viper) Tepes and Kaleb (Hawk) Tepes, descendants of Vlad (the Impaler) Tepes III, yes, THAT Vlad Tepes. They also are the President and Vice President of the Sons of Sangue a Motorcycle Club in the wilds of Oregon.

Trouble comes to town when someone or something is draining women of every drop of blood they have and leaving them haphazardly buried in the forests of Pleasant, Oregon. Detective Cara Brahnam, has recently come back to town after leaving in fear, several years before. Her eyes could not deceive her when she found Kane Tepes, ten years ago, feeding from a woman. Vampires can't exist! Can they? Well Cara hightailed it out of Pleasant but returned ten years later after an unpleasant situation with a superior officer leaves a bad taste in her mouth.

Cara is determined to solve the murders of these women, who coincidentally have similar features to her, blonde hair and blue eyes. When Cara and her partner attempt to question members of the Sons of Sangue, she isn't all that shocked to see that Viper hasn't changed a smidgen in 10 years, but is shocked to find herself attracted to this bad boy. Viper on the other hand is in denial. He can't be attracted to Detective Brahnam since it would go against so many of the MC's (Motorcycle Club) rules.

Things become insanely dangerous when Viper realizes that it's a primordial (an original Vampire) that is murdering the women, and Cara is not safe from its wrath. In fact, no one is safe.

I'd say I was a tad enthusiastic in my summary, but totally necessary. What a fabulous story. Patricia A. Rasey knows how to grab the reader and not let go. Her motley crew of bad-ass bikers leaves the reader wanting more. Viper: Sons of Sangue (Book 1) by Patricia A. Rasey is high octane. A must read for all paranormal fans..

My Rating: ❤❤❤
GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 heart book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. I would recommend it to a friend.
My Thoughts:
Viper was definitely a unique twist on a vampire tale. I've never read a vampire biker romance and enjoyed that dimension of the story. For me, the 3♥ came as a result of my lack of connection with the characters. My response toward them was tepid at best. Viper was very alpha in a vampire bad a$$ biker kind of way while Cara, although strong in description, felt mildly anemic. I suppose that could have been intentional on the author's part but it made them feel incompatible. But again, that could have been intentional. Despite my slight character misgivings, I enjoyed the bit of suspense infused in the story. Although the reader omnisciently knew the "who" and "why", it was intriguing to follow Viper and Cara to those discoveries. I liked the byplay between Kaleb and Suzi and will enjoy seeing what Rasey has up her sleeve for them.

The ending did fall a bit short in the "neat and tidy" department because so much was left unresolved. I get leaving certain trails open because this is an introduction to a new series but those areas are not my primary issue. The suspense built through the entire story and deflated with very little fanfare in how quickly the primordial was dispatched. It felt rushed as the end of the book drew nearer with each passing page when my Kindle was at 95%.

Author/Publisher Note:
Rosalee's name was changed to Rebecca toward the end of the story.

Being the President of the Sons of Sangue is in Kane ‘Viper’ Tepes blood. As the lead detective, Cara wants to see the person responsible for draining the women of Lane County brought to justice. Now Cara has been targeted as the next victim and Kane must join the hunt to find the ancient vampire that wants her dead, even if it compromises his beliefs and endangers his position as the head of the MC.

The first book in the dangerously appealing new vampire MC world is an exhilarating and thrilling read that readers definitely want to be a part of. The characters are strong, vivid and easily enthrall readers with their story and Viper and Cara have some serious chemistry going on which singers with every word. The relationship between them has sparks flying everywhere as Cara and Viper both fight their magnetic attraction which keeps this relationship on a rocky and turbulent slope that readers can’t help but enjoy, especially when all that pent up passion explodes.

Thrilling suspense and adrenaline pumping excitement keeps reader glued to each and every page as the danger to Cara escalates and the friction that Viper and Cara’s relationship is causing with the MC causes tempers to erupt. Unexpected twists keeps readers as well as the characters on their toes while ensuring that readers won’t want to miss a second of this exhilarating read that takes in a brilliantly creative world full of devastatingly sexy vampire bikers that gives new meaning to words ‘born to be wild’!

Vampire Bikers...I can't say that Bikers are my idea of a great read. I don't mind violence in books but I don't like real criminals and most of the MC that I've read are criminals.
I was told by all my friends in June that I've got to read this series that it is fabulous and I'll fall hard for Viper and Hawk Tepes. Well I'm pleased to say that they were not wrong. I truly enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the next one.
"Viper" is a good start to the series it had good world building and character development. The story is exciting and at times had me on the edge of my seat. It was a tad slow in places but it kept me intrigued. The Sons of Sangue are some very hot Vampires and Viper (Kane) is one sexy alpha male. I thought Cara Brahnam's character started out a little weak but then she came into her own and ended up being perfect for Kane Tepes.
I think Patricia A. Rasey set the next book "Hawk" up perfectly to make the reader want more. It's a good thing I bought both the books in June.

Viper is a July 2013 release, written by Patricia Rasey and published by eXcessia. I received a DRC of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

As a teenager, Cara and her good friend Suzi, are out clubbing. When Cara steps into the ladies room, she is shocked to find a couple having sex. This may have been nothing more than a really embarrassing situation, except when the man turned to look at Cara, he had blood dripping from fangs!
Cara fled Pleasant and never told a soul what she had witnessed that night. Now ten years later, Cara is back in Pleasant working as a detective. Her latest case involves the death of several women, all of which had the blood drained from their bodies. Who do you think is Cara's number one suspect? Right, you guessed it- Kane Tepes. Yes, the same Tepes from Vlad the Impaler, also known as Dracula. It seems Kane and his twin brother, Kaleb are direct descendants. Kane is the president and Kaleb the vice president of a motorcycle club, The Sons of Sangue. They are all too aware of the killings in their town and are also out to put a stop to it.
When Cara and Kane come face to face again after ten years, it's intense. Kane should have erased her memory ten years ago, but for some reason he didn't, thus breaking the rule of the club. But, he is certain Cara won't tell anyone. He is also certain that Cara could be the next victim.
When he insist on being Cara's bodyguard, the tension between them boils over- literally. HOT!
However, Kane's brother and the other club members are not too happy about it. Not only that, but it appears an old enemy may be out for revenge against Kane, opening up deep, painful wounds for Kane.

It's been a long time since a new vampire type paranormal romance has grabbed my attention. This one was a real treat. Hot alpha males in a motorcycle club, a serial killer, steamy sex, and romance with heart and emotion. I must also say, this seems sort of like an ode to the FX show "Sons of Anarchy". I LOVE that show!
The author did a great job of pacing the story that kept you engaged from start to finish. The end was suspenseful and tense, but of course you know we must have out HEA. But, watch out Kaleb- your day is coming. Hopefully, in the next book of the series.
This one gets a good solid A.

Kane is the president of a biker club and a vampire. He is the ultimate bad *ss, taking what ever he wants...now he has his sights set on Cara.

Cara Brahnam witness Kane feeding and having sex ten years ago. Running from the reality of “vampire”, Cara left town without notice. Now she is back as a police detective, investigating the murder of women that have been drained of all blood...leading her right back to Kane, the reason she left town in the first place.

An ancient vampire has its sights on Cara, can Viper (Kane) protect Cara will gaining her trust that he isn't responsible for the attacks? You'll have to read Viper and find out.

This story had its ups and downs. The sexual aspects of this story was intense and immense, running through out the entire story line while few plot points seemed unended or without reason (ie. The focus on Cara's Ex).

Viper has the absolute best plot plan ever...Bikers and Vampires, I was hooked on the idea of this book from the moment I read the blurb. I did find the story completely unique and interesting. Again it had an awesome premise but even with all that I could not connect with the characters. The story was also a bit repetitive, reiterating the same comments over and over taking away from the meat of the story. Yes, there was a great base and I believe with a little polish this is going to be a wonderful series to follow. I find the direction with Kaleb and Suzi extremely intriguing and would definitely recommend any vampire, biker, alpha male erotic romance fan to check out Viper.

I received this copy of Viper from eXcessica Publishing in exchange for a honest review.

Kane is a vampire who is also President of a biker club. Cara saw something she shouldn't have seen Kane doing 10 years.. She accidently seen him feeding at a club one night all so many years ago.. Ran away from the Truth that vampires are real... and is back as a detective she is now investigating murders of women that have been drained of all blood...leading her right back to Kane..... and the story begins...
I really did enjoy the story, I liked al the characters Kane has a twin Brother Kaleb and he is pretty cool also.. This story sets up the next book in the series.

GOOD First Book to A series, Interesting Characters, Good Story and Romance. I found it to be unique with the Vampire/Mc world.
Why 3 Stars, IMO I found i couldn't completely connect with characters as well as i thought i would have. I would still RECOMMEND it to everyone it was a good solid read!!

Wow, great twist on MC clubs and Vampire; great combo of two of my favorite things. I have to admit to being a fan of Sons of Anarchy and actually looking for stories to fulfill my biker fantasies. Well this one fills the spot for me. My love of the hard rough biker and my love the paranormal. Vampires have been around the mill and we usually get the same ol’thing just a slightly different package. We have Breeds, Brothers and even ones that Sparkle and everything in between, but this takes a different stance. These are rough tough bikers…with a bite. The guys alone are worth the read, come on…how could you resist them? So hop on and let the boys take you on a wild ride.

What an intriguing combo! Biker hero vampire and human police detective heroine...had to try it. I dove into this one with anticipation and for the most part it delivered as the start of a series. It is one where the last half of the book was definitely more rewarding than the first half in all ways- characters, development and pace.

The story is set in a small town in Oregon where a gal police detective, Cara Brahnam, is investigating a series of gruesome murders where the odd bit is that the bodies are drained and the victims all have a certain resemblance- a resemblance she shares.

Kane 'Viper' Tepes, descendant of Vlad the impaler and president of the all vampire Sons of Sangue Motorcycle Club, is suspect number one in a series of murders that include his most recent volunteer blood donor. He and his MC brothers are under scrutiny of the local law enforcement and he is determined to deal with the issue sensing that the murders are the result of a personal vendetta against him. Unfortunately, he can't seem to keep his mind in the game because his head is turned by Cara Brahnam. Ten years before, she caught him drinking and having sex with a donor and he should have erased her memories, but couldn't because he didn't want her to forget him. Now, here she is again and just as beguiling as ever only she wants nothing to do with him and isn't sure she believes in vampires. This should be good news because carrying on with Cara and, worse, giving in to temptation and drinking from her is the against the rules set up by the MC for the protection of his kind and the punishment is at the least ostracism from the club.

Cara wants to maintain distance with Kane because he is the logical suspect in the murders and because she can't get past that event ten years ago when she caught him drinking a girl's blood. Besides, he's made it clear that he doesn't do relationships. Too bad her head and her body aren't on the same wavelength. Distance is no longer available though when she becomes the next targeted victim and only Kane can protect her.

The plot on this one grabbed me in the beginning. It was all good stuff in the beginning, but then when Cara's character got annoying for me and the pace stalled out, I was disappointed. I do enjoy a certain amount of sexual tension and outside barriers so that things aren't too easy and boring, but there is a limit to my patience. He was a big bad outlaw biker; she was a cop. He was a scary vampire who didn't do relationships and she couldn't accept these things. All that would have been fine and understandable, but after several rounds of arguing and internal dialogue and thwarted moments with no real development in the romance or the other components of the story, I just kept thinking 'Get On With It Already'. Thankfully, it did- get on with it that is- before I got too exasperated.

The story was told from mostly Kane and Cara's perspectives, but it also tossed in the bad guys' points of view and story line as well as an intriguing story line involving Kane's twin Kaleb and Cara's friend that will probably get its own book in the series. I was okay with the villain perspective, but having it took away from the tension and menace that the unknown would have given. I also noted that the story ended without some closure when it came to the villain who was orchestrating matters from a distance. Since they were included in the story with their own plot line, I was interested in what their reaction was to how things went down in the end. I'm not sure if maybe this was on purpose so it would be an ongoing plot thread so I'll take a wait and see on that one.

I really liked the introduction to all the characters in this new series. I can't wait to get to know all those dark and dangerous vampire bikers better and learn who their girl will be with each new book. Kane and Cara's relationship in the second half of the book was well worth the impatience I felt for them in the beginning. I groaned when I saw that Cara wanted everyone to believe she was one of those independent, sassy gals who picked the wrong moments to prove it, but was really someone loaded with issues and in denial. Later in the story, things from her past came out and her issues made some sense just as Kane's past explained how he became who he was. Loved seeing them get past so many things and be willing to take chances and sacrifice to be together.

All in all, it was a good start to a series and I look forward to the next book with anticipation. This book would appeal to those who like to mix things up a bit because of the contemporary biker romance combines with romantic suspense and spicy hot paranormal romance.

My thanks to Net Galley for providing the book for review purposes.

3.5 Bloody Viper Stars

I had some serious trouble reading Kane's story... It took me over 1.5 years to actually finish this book... I liked the set up of the story, but it was quite slow at the beginning and as a result, I had trouble finishing the book. Overall it was a pleasant book to read but there were some questions that were never answered... For example, none notices that the Sons of Sangue members don't age?

In this very intriguing story Miss Rasey builds a world within our world. She gives such vivid descriptions of each and every character, that as a reader you can picture clearly what each man and woman looks like. The alpha hero is so incredibly gorgeous and arrogant you want to smack him and at the same time be the heroine who gets to kiss him and so much more. The heroine, Cara, is his match in every way. When Viper finally falls and falls hard for her, you can’t help but sigh in happiness. Add in he has a twin, and several other members of his group, and you can’t help but want more.
I was hooked from the very beginning with the opening scene of the book, all the way to the very end. She mixed in all the things I think makes an incredible story. A great plot. Hot men. Danger. And incredible sex with said hot man . By the end of the story Miss Rasey had me thinking about the next book, then the one after that and so on. I sincerely hope she has already started on Viper’s twin Kaleb’s story, because I can only imagine it is going to be another great, steamy read.

This book was recommended to me by friend. I was intrigued by the thought of vampires and a good MC story. I did enjoy the book, but it left me wanting more by the end. The story had a good build up,but some parts, I felt, were way too rushed--especially the end. When I got to about the 90% spot in this book, I thought there was no way the author could actually finish off the story in that amount of pages. There was too much that still needed to be covered. She did. However, it wasn't finished to my satisfaction. Rather than letting us experience the end, it was just quick gloss over of what happened. So many things were left unanswered. I was disappointed by the ending. Had the author taken her time and extended the wrap up of this story better, I would have given this a 5 star rating. Still, it was an enjoyable read and I will read book 2.

3 Stars ~ Pretty "Meh"

Okay for a starter in a series but nothing had the wow factor. The ending was quite disappointing since things were very unresolved and everything could have been tied together much better. Furthermore, I didn't like how apart the club was. Usually members are like brothers or at least respectful to the President but I didn't feel that. Lastly, Viper didn't have the Alpha Badass I like for my bikers too have. I just didn't feel this book at all.

Vampires who run a motorcycle gang? Hotness.

Kane Viper Tepes is one of Vlad’s ancestors and the president of the Sons of Sangue outlaw motorcycle gang. Someone - or something - is draining women of their blood and then burying the bodies in shallow graves. Viper wants to figure out who the slayer is because this shit is getting personal.

Cara is a detective - human - who also wants to know who’s murdering young women in her town. Cara has a theory she can’t tell anyone though, because who’s going to believe her? Ten years ago, however, she witnessed a vampire biting a woman while having sex with her in a bathroom, and she’s never forgotten the sight, nor Viper.

This was a nice surprise. I had been looking for something to fill the Black Dagger Brotherhood that remains while waiting for the War’s new installments. This series reminds me of those a bit - it’s just that these super hot vamps ride Harleys rather than drive BMWs and Mercedes.

The characters were well developed, though I would have liked a little more back story on how this group came to be historically. I assume more of their story will come out with each novel about the different group members.

Overall this is a nice solid start to a vamp series.

Before you I have not loved

What an exciting new take on vampires and a fantastic series starter! I love the way the author brought the brotherhood of the MC together with the intrigue of the vampires. It made for an interesting story and I couldn’t put it down until the end. I especially enjoyed the way the characters had to find the bad guy while they were slowly moving towards their HEA. The author kept the story moving with action and danger and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Interesting, and different telling of Vlad Tepes, and his descendents

I enjoyed the first book of the Son of Sangue, MCC, which are direct descendents of Vlad Tepes. Nice twists in the storyline.
