With over 6 million books sold (and counting), Kathia’s novels have been #1 bestsellers around the world. They’ve received starred reviews from Booklist, have consistently earned Editor’s Picks for Best Romance, and have been featured by O, The Oprah Magazine and Entertainment Weekly.
Kate (aka Kathia) has written over 50 romcom and paranormal books so far, as well as a couple romantasy screenplays and various poems (her ode to the color orange is particularly moving). Full of hope and bonds of found family and friendship, her stories feature sassy, independent women who just want love and earthy men full of heart who are more than able to rise to the occasion.
It's a little different from the novels in the Laurel Heights series. There is only one point of view and only one story. If another couple was having it's story it would be diffucult for all of them to develop in 75 and have their chance to find love. The POV was more than surprising but not bad. I was used to seeing at least 3 pov in the series (In the fourth book they are 4).
I was glad Anna and Max didn't have another break up. Freya and Greg make an appearance and I guess that if I had read their book (it's the only book in the series I haven't read) I would be excited to see them again, married with children and the usual family stuff.
The story was sweet and I am really happy Anna and Max got a second at love. I liked Anna's willingness to sacrifice her some things in order to make Max happy.
This is a work of art, literally. From sweeping vistas to the truest chivalry, ALL FOR YOU is a crux to every romantic's booklist. ALL FOR YOU is on the level of Jane Austen's repertoire, while also using modern viewpoints to create the ideal 21st-century romance.
JUST KIDDING.
Okay, I promise not to write a scathing review, but I do believe honesty not only helps future readers but writers as well.
This book was terrible. I am inclined not to write anything more, but I do believe in proofs to assertions, so here are my reasons for why this book could have been written by a first-grader.
A) Anna is one of the worst heroines I've ever read about. Ever. Not only is she is the representation of selfish egomania, but she is also portrayed as "independent" while spending her adult life pining after a man. Okay, I'm pretty sure independence means "freedom from the control of others" (dictionary.com, by the way), but Anna seems to be over-the-top controlled by her feelings for a man she had ignored since law school. Anna's frequent phrases like, "I'm sad for me!" reiterates her spoiled princess syndrome, in which she's happy she has money, but life is pointless without a man.
Which is exactly what Perry MADE FUN OF by judging women who go to college to find husbands? Um, what is wrong with that? But oh, wait, independence is important. Which completely supports Anna's total preoccupation with her ex, who, if she truly loved, would have still been her man post-law school.
B) Max was a boring male lead. He contributed nothing to the plot except "Latin flair," which is awesome, but he felt like a useless piece of "spicy" bread. The problem with these "romance" novels is that they always have strong, "independent" female roles, with wimpy male lovers, who seem anything but realistic.
C) Plot development was absolutely excruciating. This story was 100% predictable. Of course Anna and Max were going to end up together, and he was never going to leave San Francisco for New York. I guess Kate Perry does not believe in reality. I could write an entire novel on how boring/predictable/utterly bland the plot was, but I'm not going to waste more of my time.
D) Law? Give me a break. I don't know what law school Anna went to, but wow, was she the worst lawyer I've ever experienced. Also, I've never seen a "bohemian" lawyer, as Anna calls herself, but you know, this is a book of fiction, which is why I am glad that the selfish, demeaning, and lying Anna does not exist, even if people like her do walk on our streets.
E) This was not a romance. This was erotica, which depresses me. Do people not fall in love anymore? "I fell in love," Anna crows after she sleeps with Max. Give me a break. I honestly believed I was going to be reading a book (more like a short story) that offered a realistic love story. No, this was just embarrassing lit I should never have been reading.
Have I read worse books? Of course. But when this story has a "3.8" rating on Goodreads, and other superb, actually-creative novels receive lower scores, I lose faith in humanity. Okay, that was a generalization, but really.
This book was ridiculous. I am sad I wasted brain cells on it. However, on a more positive side, it was a good way to waste an hour or two I'll never get back. Yay.
Wow, okay. I started this novelette with reasonably low expectations due to it being free on iBooks. However, from the beginning, I knew it could only get worse. And it did.
I give it one star for it's ability to be a "quick read." The sentences are not complex, which makes it a faster read, but noticeably dull in most areas.
The reasons I did not give it more than a single star are quite numerous, but I will name a few. Perry's plot is extremely simple, even for approximately 70 pages of text. It is not only very predictable, but corny as well. Even though I did not expect it to be rated "G," I was not expecting the intense PG-13 pages that I encountered, when I wanted to claw out my eye balls.
Additionally, both Max and Anna are impractical with unreasonable ambitions, emotions, and actions. Anna has a seriously selfish vibe that makes her character portrayal seem distasteful and unpleasant, just like Perry's comments regarding Harvard women and marriage.
Maybe it was well-conceived in her mind, but I was absolutely not a fan whether on paper or screen.
Very quick read. It was okay. I have one other Kate Perry downloaded as I picked up a few free. I certainly wouldn't pay for them, and I don't think I will download any others either, free or not. It's a shame as they are easy reads and I like the idea of stories that kind of overlap being women who live in the same neighbourhood. I can tell Kristen's story will be more of what peeved me off about Freya's, though, so I think I will save myself the agitation. I know it's a storyline that works for a lot of women, but not this one. If I'm reading a sappy romance, which honestly I don't often (I disagree that chick lit is romance necessarily), the last thing I want on my happy ending is the pitter patter of little feet. Unless it's a puppy.
This was cute, a bit rushed told By Anna POV. Realizing that after college, getting a great job and apartment your Life is hallow Anna seeks out her old Love of her life, Max except Max has moved on.
A really short story, quick an very direct. Not very descriptive which I liked,I hate when writers get into to much debt About a character it drives me Wild and seriously it can get boring.
In this cast it was beautiful written and It came to a nice conclusion.
I love Anna and Max! They've got to be my favorite characters in Lauren Heights. I'm more than glad to have read their story from 'once upon a time' to 'and they lived happily ever after'.
Wish this has been done as a full length book rather than a novella. I love Anna's character and her budding relationship with Max from "Perfect for You".
Only giving it this rating because I didn't really get to know Max. I got to know Anna a lot and at first I thought she was really selfish but the further I got into the story I noticed that she wasn't. The use of food references was great. Food and adjectives for eating were used everywhere but not too much. Back to Max. I wish I got to know him more and saw why she fell in love with him again besides the fact that he was sexy, Latin, and a chef with a smooth words. That's all I got know about him. Anyway, I finished it in one sitting!
All For You is a quick, short read which is good. I didn't care for the main character though I think if this would have been a longer story she wouldn't have been so annoying.
Anna is kind of in a slump. She has everything she thought she wanted, but she isn't happy. The last time she was really happy was when she was dating Max. Max who she let get away since they both had demanding schedules. He is a chef and she was in law school. When she really thinks about it she decides she is going to try and get Max back. She knows they would be great together. She is just hoping she is not too late.
Anna shows up at Max's restaurant one night and she is not very smooth. Max doesn't know why she is there and Anna comes up with this last minute catering job. She is just using it to as an excuse to try and get more time with him and he is happy to oblige. Then things heat up between them and it looks like Anna will get what she wants. Only Max is supposed to move across the country for a great chef gig that would help him advance his career and enable him to do what he has always wanted. Can they work it out?
So Anna was annoying to me in this book. She was too wishy washy. At first it was like I won't let anything stand in my way, then a small bump comes along and it is like well that is that. Then she decides she won't let that stop her, she will get Max back, then no, wait I should let him go without talking to him about it. I should just make decisions for him cause I love when characters do that. It was just frustrating. She was also very full of herself. The way she talked about things was just like she is the most amazing person ever of course she will get Max back (or whatever she wants). Her thought process just made me not like her at all. Since it was from her point of view it made the book not much fun to read. Oh well, it was a quick read so I didn't waste a lot of time on it.
I have loved Freya's fridge raiding little sister, Anna since the moment she started poking around in her sister's relationships in 'Perfect for you' seeing her take centre stage in her own story is something I hoped to read but never thought would come about, bless the persistence of us readers eh?! Reading the plot I thought it would be a basic story until of course you sprinkle on the perry Magic! I've been slowly making my way through her books and I recommend everyone who stumbles across her just as I did to do the same. Anna and Max are the easiest couple to read about there dynamic and the calmness, laid back and teacher like qualities that Max exudes and Anna's young intrigue into this older different guy she writes them so perfectly it seems quite effortless. I enjoyed reading how there lives had changed since they parted company, enjoying something blossoming between them in perfect for you it was a nice twist to find that they weren't happily ever after together but they were both quite different yet when together they they were the same old love struck kids they had started as. Reading about Anna going out on a limb for what she wants was inspiring and endearing in all the steps she took to get back into Max's life. As much as I have enjoyed reading this story, Perfect for you is undoubtedly my favourite book of Kate's so being able to revisit Greg and Freya was a great added bonus for me, there growing family and busy lives, it was like visiting old friends! I highly recommend this book, I already have to my close friends, Only disappointed it ended :) xxx
This was wonderful. I couldn't put it down and cried through the whole thing.
Maybe because it brings back Anna & Max, the secondary romance in ' ' , so we have a vested interest.
It could also be that, while I love the idea of 2 for 1 in a romance book, it also dilutes out emotional bond to each couple. So this one gets our full attention.
When we last saw them, Anna wanted to go to law school and Max was a promising chef. Their romance was just starting and, since the book was about her sister Freya, we really didn't see much of it.
I love the simplicity of the story, the white bread/spice analogy and the method she uses to get him back, though he could have given her something to grab onto for hope. Or maybe he did and she's just blind.
I only have a few observations.
One: Did Natasha, the associate of Max's from N.Y., know what she was doing when she talked to Anna at the bar?
Two: After all the time spent crying over the two of them getting together, when they finally do it justs ends. I would have like to have a little higher percentage between happy and sad.
Three: Don't you think it's a little odd that in the others books the friends and neighbors are all there for you and you can't get away from them, but in this one they're all 'busy'?
All For You was a sweet and funny Novella about Anna Godwin. Anna is the sister of Freya who was in Prefect For You my favorite and the first in Laurel Height series.
Anna feels that her life has become boring, and she wants some excitement. The last time Anna felt like she had any excitement in her life was when she was with Max Carazao. So with a little encouragement from Freya, Anna finds Max and does all what she can to get him back in her life.
Like with many Novella they always leave me wanting more, and this one did the same as I felt it ended too quickly. But that being said I still enjoyed it, and it was lovely to see how Anna and Max’s story continued. They were always a cute couple. Hopefully they will pop up in future Laurel Height books.
I was pleased that we got to see more of Freya and Greg and find out what had been happening in their lives as they are one of my favorite couple whom I feel don’t get mentioned enough in the other books.
I'm a big fan of Kate Perry and all her books, and this one was a sweet quick easy read that left me with a large smile on my face.
synopsis: anna and max broke up when anna couldn't leave and go with him to follow max's dream. anna has followed her dream and is a lawyer, but feels as though there is something missing in her life. when she thinks back on it, she realizes that the last time she really felt something was with max. when anna finds out that max is in town, she creates a big event that she wants max to cater. along the way, she learns what max's dreams are, and tries to make them come true.
what i liked: anna and max together.
what i didn't like: that anna never felt that she could tell max the truth. also, why she couldn't move to follow max this time around. the story felt like there could have been so much more to it, and fell short that way as well.
I have been hooked on kate perry's ebooks for about a year now, they are fun quick reads, but the subject matter is strong, sassy women, with a bit of "spice thrown" in with a few hi jinks. Each book is more delicious than the last! I loved that Anna was able to improve herself for the better with a bit of a nudge in the right direction. She is a strong independent women with healthy friendships. I also like how the town of Laurel Heights is the center point of each of her ebooks, so charming and fun. Its nice to be able to see the ladies from previous novels pop up as friends or someone a character meets.
Waiting for the next one. Thank you kate perry for bringing to life these wonderful ebooks!
This was my first Kate Perry book. This was a cute and quick read of two people who were in love in high school. The main character, Anna is still hung over her high school sweetheart, Max and will lie and do anything it takes to get him to come back to her. She finally hunts him down, finding out that he's a successful Chef and restaurant owner. She has a new found confidence that she believes will aide her help in winning him back; over the years she has morphed from a bland dweeb, to a sharp business woman. She honestly comes off as snooty many times, but it can come off as comical most of the times. She simmers down a bit later on in the book, and they get their HEA. I loved this story and will recommend it to anyone. =)
I liked this story about Anna and Max, who we meet in the first book in this series (Anna is Freya's sister and Max lived in the downstairs apartment).
It's been years since Anna and Max have seen each other; she was in college when they first met and he was getting his restaurant together. Now they're both older, and wiser, but is there still the spark that they once had?
I'd been waiting for this one since their story was unresolved in book one.
I didn't really feel the same sparks when I read about them this time... and I like the sparks in these kinds of novels. I found Anna to be presumptuous and still naive... and the whole premise of throwing a fake party was just eye-rolling ridiculousness that wasn't even funny. Just sad.
After reading the first Laurel Heights book, Perfect for You, I have always wondered what happened between Anna and Max. I was so excited to see that Kate finally wrote their story. Their story could have been a full length novel, but this novella is the perfect addition to this series. It gives us a condensed version of what's happened between these two. When they first met, it was a strong attraction. Could it last and survive? I like these two characters. Anna provided a lot of comedy in the first book with her sister, Freya, and her personality shines through in this book too. Loved it!
I have to admit that usually am a total on board fan girl of second chance at love romances but for me Ana just seemed a little too quick to let Max go in the first place and than too insistent on he and her getting back together after years apart because after all she never stopped loving him and he was the spice missing from her life.
That reasoning was okay but the fact that they had sexual relations with the full knowledge Max was going to New York for a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity two weeks after they reconnected was a big red flag that maybe Ana waited too long, or not if she could give Max a reason to stay in San Francisco with her.
This Laurel Heights novel differed from all the others as we catch back up with Anna (from book 1). This follows her FAILED romance with Max. I see how you're switching things up there, Kate Perry. This novella also only features one POV and one romance, which is very different from the LH norm, but it worked.
I was just thinking, we have not heard much about Freya and Anna. In fact, the closest mention we got to Freya in recent books was something about seeing a tall red haired woman (who must've been Freya). It was nice to re-visit some old friends.
This was my least favorite of the Laurel Heights, it just wasnt as fun and passionate as the others. I fin Max to be too bland of a character which is ironic since his nickname is Mr. Spicy, but anyways. I liked the story cute and short when we first saw Anna in Perfect for You, but i dont think this should have continued. Anyways. I still ADORE Kate Perry, even though i was honestly disapointed by this one.
Cute, light, quick read - this is a fun novella. I liked the continuation of the story of Max and Anna. The story picks up with Anna in a law practice and Max running a restaurant - they parted ways when she was in law school and Anna could not handle all her obligations. Now that she's considering resuming the relationship, Max has taken an offer to start his own restaurant in New York. The chemistry between Max and Anna is fun but I found the ending very abrupt.
A quick read, in length and depth. Not necessarily in a bad way, depending on what you are looking for. I read it on the way to the cabin with family and music distractions and didn’t feel like I missed much.
Anna’s ‘The One’ got away many years back and she develops a plan to get him back. Perry writes Anna so clearly, the reader has no doubt who she is. Her persistent, get-what-she-wants, nature comes out and you either love her or hate her.
Reading through all eight books I've often wondered what happened to Anna and Max. Things were so hot between them so I'm happy that the characters from the first book have made an appearance in this book. It is a short story but worth reading to fill in the missing years. Recommended read along with all the previous Laurel Heights books.
The only thing that kept me from 5 stars was that it was from Anna's POV only and not also from Max...in other Laurel Heights books it shows more than one POV...other than that I loved it! I was very excited to,read about Max and Anna and had always wished there was more of them in book 1. Thanks Kate Perry!
