Graduate and professional TESOL students will welcome this research methods textbook for undertaking qualitative, naturalistic and action research projects. Uniquely, the book offers a three-level structured progression, suited both to novice and intermediate students with a focus on development as classroom teachers of English, and to advanced students engaged in academic research work in applied linguistics. Every chapter is structured to develop the important skills for undertaking QI in a rigorous and serious way, at whatever level is appropriate for the reader's purpose. The book is both scholarly in approach and written in an engagingly direct and clear style.
There is a mind numbingly large number of researh methodology books out there. Most of them seem to be put together in a hurry, assembled by bean counters who've programmed their computer to throw out all the latest buzzwords to attract gullible newbies. I suppose if you want an easy go-to source for those buzzwords, those books do provide a service. This book, however, has a different goal in mind.
This book is crafted with care. Instead of dazzling the newcomer with coverage on all the latest buzzwords, this author seems to desire instead to induct the reader into a substantive discussion and experience of research. I've read a very large number of these sorts of books. This book happens to be one of the better ones around.
