Terrified of becoming mated like her parents, Isabelle has locked herself away in order to avoid their fate. She is content to stay sheltered amongst her family, hidden away as she lives out her days away from the human race, and the world. Despite her determination to remain alone, her world is rocked when a person from her parent’s past arrives at their door, bringing with them the powerful, and stunning vampire Stefan.
Though Stefan is not expecting to arrive at a nest full of vampires, he is immediately drawn to the vibrant, often defiant, and willful Isabelle. To his surprise, Isabelle does everything in her power to avoid him, and her desire for him.
No matter how hard she tries to fight it though, Isabelle begins to realize that trying to deny her destiny may just destroy them both, as there are some things that cannot be stopped. Just as she begins to let her guard down, Stefan’s dark and deadly past catches up to him and threatens to destroy them both.

This review is from: Destined (Vampire Awakenings) (Kindle Edition) I was really disappointed in "Destined", since I absolutely loved bk.1 "Awakened" which was everything great in a story. "Destined" was everything wrong in a story. We start 25yrs. into the future Liam and Sera have 10 kid now 4 singles and 2 sets of twins. Ethan is the oldest and he is hanging out with Mike, Jack and David his fathers old friends. They have stayed together and help raise Liam and Sera's kid. He see's Kathleen his mothers best friend and He goes and talks to her. Kathleen has not see or heard from Sera in over 15yrs. Kathleen has 2 daughters Deila and Jess. They surprise Sera and come to visit and stay for 2 weeks with them. Jess's boyfriend Stepan accompanies them and he is the same Older Vampire that David meet in bk.1 he told David that Liam's behavior was because he and Sera were Soul Mates, so he could help Liam and Sera get through the mating. Stepan is 250 plus yrs old. This is were my problem begins with the story. Stephan had to be told almost at the very end of the book that he and Isabelle where soul mates. Isabelle is Liam and Sera's 2nd child she is now 23 yrs old. Whats so silly about the story is Isabelle never whats the same things her parents have love, happiness, not wanting to be separated from each other. She doesn't want to be that dependent on a man. So she avoids Stepan and pick fights with him and uses Jess as a excuse to stay away form him even after he has broken up with Jess and asked her leave which she did for a day. What woman doesn't want love and happiness and family. It didn't make sense. Some women don't want children but they do want a deep connection and a intimate relationship. Their was so much angst from beginning to end of in this story it weighed me down. The two of them constantly bickering and auguring got on my nerves. Instead of Romance we got Tug Of War. If you like a lot of angst then this book is for you. I like a more balance approach. The sex scene which don't happen until toward the end are very boring a blah blah. I believe Ms. Davies was having PMS when she wrote "Destined", because it is an emotional mess.
Destined picks up many years after the first book left off with that couple’s (Sera & Liam) children. They now have ten, and Isabella is the second oldest (I think) preceded only by her twin brother Ethan. (book 3) Their family lives in a compound of sorts with Liam’s friends. Ethan runs into one of Sera’s pre-vampy friends and invites her to visit. She arrives with her two daughters and her eldest’s boyfriend (Stefan) who ends up being Isabelle’s life/soulmate… which is a problem because she doesn’t want one.
This reminded me a lot of Like a Memory (another 2-⭐), and I had many of the same issues. First, I found Isabelle being a hermit to avoid running into her soulmate very childish. It makes zero sense that after experiencing her happy/supportive childhood with her uber devoted parents that she’d be like…. I want nothing to do with that. Second, Isabelle is annoying AF. I think the author was going for cute/endearing with all her stomping, ill-tempered, judgey ass antics, but this was an EPIC fail for me. She was RIDICULOUS with her nonstop freak-outs. Like becoming hysterical when facing being bitten to finalize the bond, or constantly shivering and shaking every time the scary human gives her a hateful stare…. when she’s a freaking VAMPIRE!! Third, the pacing is SLOW with large chunks of filler. (like the stupid bear trap they never fill in despite the kids almost dying several times) At 21% the couple had barely spoken, and it takes 75% until they’re remotely together. Fourth, there’re a ton of secondary characters (siblings, friends, neighbors) incessantly popping up and plot blocking the already slow-moving storyline.
Bottom Line- This didn’t work for me. It read more like YA than adult PNR despite the content… and the sexy cover. Issy was way too immature for a 267-year-old vampire, so their relationship fell flat. (Stefan was no peach, but he was mature… and I kept picturing Stefan Salvatore) The “world/setting” is unique but didn’t work for me. I can’t get behind vampires that are scared of humans, scared of biting, or look at killing bad humans or vampires (even in self-defense) as unforgivable.
"He killed our kind, Isabelle, not ones like us, but the wrong ones, ones like you met at the club. Didn't he tell you this?" Isabelle wasn't going to admit he had told her, but she hadn't seen the difference. "I'm going to take your silence to mean he did tell you, and you didn't want to hear it, or you never gave him a chance to explain," her mom said.
"You judged him too quickly, Isabelle." "He killed a man!" she yelled. Her mother clasped her hands tiredly before her. "Your father killed a man; does that make you dislike him?" "He did it to protect you!" "Stefan killed a hunter, Isabelle. It was either him or that man. Who would you rather was alive?"
"I know you, Isabelle; you're quick to judge and very quick to lose your temper.
Safety- h is a sheltered virgin. H is 267 and has been around. He says (before meeting h) that the sex with Jess (the gf) is great. She tries to initiate sex (after he met h) but he can’t get it up and finds her touch revulsive. Nothing ever on page with OW, no double-dipping.
2/5 - not a 'bad' book but definitely firmly mediocre.
Plot is relatively straight forward with unexpected twist here and there. But at its core its boy meets girl, girl resists 'destiny' (so overworked as a plot device in this kind of young adult romance genre) but ends up accepting the attraction ... then some shit occurs to threaten bond.
As i say all straight forward and standard stuff
The total change in attitude on the part of Stefan is silly.
Characterisation: i felt like smashing my head against a wall at times. Too many characters! Over 12 immediate peeps means characterisation is shallow and fleeting from everyone. Frankly given how important this area is for this genre its a major failure in the book.
Honestly you will end up disliking both the main characters and liking the villains.
Sex scenes: crappy. This read like a naive teenagers vision of sex. All kisses, brooding stares and rough fumbles. Not. Good.
If you like mediocrity, read this. If weak characters and average plot devices do it for you; go right ahead.
Isabelle was the kind of heroine I least identify with--avoiding a relationship and being stupid. I also did not like Stefan. Don't know why she liked him either. Or he liked her. So I guess match made in heaven.
I felt like this book was my vampire soul-mate and I needed to devour every word. I was angry and snapped at anyone who disturbed my reading time. I tried to read any free second I got and I loved everything about it. I love a possessive protagonist but a possessive vampire is 1000 times better. Ultra Mega HOT.
Destined is Isabelle's story, who is the daughter of the protagonists from the first book in the series. She is afraid to find her soul-mate because she doesn't want her life to depend of someone's else existence, even if she has grown up watching the eternal love her parents share. Little does she know that even locked in her house she finds the man that will shatter her world. Isabelle will fight with all her mind against the attraction, but some bonds aren't meant to be broken.
Another good book in this series. This one is 20+ years after the first book and is about the daughter of Liam and Sera (well, their oldest daughter because they had like 10 kids!) Isabelle has always hidden herself away at her family's home because she doesn't want to lose herself in someone, have her life tied to someone, like her parent's. However, a stranger arrives who ends up being that soul mate she has hidden from for years.
This one was good as well except for a bit at the end when the heroine was being a judgmental bitch, but then her mother set her straight.
I'm really enjoying this series and plan to read the rest of the books.
So let me start off by saying so far these are my favorite couples. However there were parts in the story that I lagged on and I don't know. Just certain parts of it didn't hold my attention. And that's familiar with any kind of book really. I do love their story though. And that's the best I can give right now because it's really late at night and I'm exhausted. Moving on to the next book.
Book 2 excellent, possibly a bit better than the first one. I love vampire books, but let's face it there are vampire books, and then there are VAMPIRE BOOKS. This is a VAMPIRE BOOK, this series is so far really interesting, I don't want to stop reading for anything it keeps me completely intrigued. This story is set surrounded by a huge family, and friend's all of which are vampires. There consists eternal love, the best of friends, fighting, anger, it's just packed full of the good stuff. I am very much enjoying this series so far. I'd say it's for 18 + due to sex, language, violence. It's not too much of one thing though it's all spread out lol.
I enjoyed this story! It’s part of a series and each story is a standalone but I recommend reading them in order. Isabelle is a unique vampire she only drinks blood from a blood bag. One day she and her sisters met Stefan! He is a very handsome vampire and is instantly attracted to her. This storyline is so good! I loved reading about them and all of the secondary characters, her parents and all of the siblings. I look forward to reading Brian’s story.
Very disappointed in this book. There were gaps and missing information. No character chemistry. Do they even love each other? Like what was that? The author clearly has potential. Her writing style was entertaining, but not polished.
This one was loaded with repetitious internal thoughts and dialog. Instead of being better it was worse than book 1. It's too bad, because the author had a pretty good idea for a series. This world has both born and made vampires. However, the actions, dialog and wording causes the maturity level to drop drastically. The repetitions are so bad it makes you want to throw the book against the wall. Everything is so drawn out in the most monotonous details that it would make a good sedative. I recommend this book to those having trouble sleeping. It will put you out or make your scream with frustration.
I was disappointed with this one. The first one was mildly enjoyable but I just didn’t care for the characters in this one. The writing needs a lot of polish.
My main gripe with this one is the characters. Isabell spends most of the book having a gigantic pity party because she never wanted to find a mate and now she has. I ended up skimming a lot of her inner dialogue because it became repetitive. Stephan becomes likable in the next book, but he left a lot to be desired in this one. I would describe him as an “alpha-hole”. His attitude through most of the book consists of “you belong to me, stop fighting me and just accept it” and “I don’t have to explain anything to her, how dare she”. Also, why does every story in this series have a psycho ex?
We got a tiny bit more world building in this book but not much. I liked that this book stayed within the family and we got to see more of Liam and Sera.
Loved it, Sara and Liam are living the life they love surrounded by their family.
This second book in this series focuses on Isabelle, quiet sweet Isabelle not the traits you would normally associate with a vampire lol but Isabelle is a sweetheart her whole family love her and will do anything to make her happy, but never forget Isabelle is a vampire and she will protect her loved ones at all cost.
Stefan is a 250+ years old Vampire he has seen and done a lot but he is tired of the life he has always lived it's time for a change. Stefan is everything you would expect from an old vampire, he is power personified it just oozes from him, he is also beyond good looking and when he sets eyes on Isabelle for the first time his world turns upside down in ways he never expected, never dreamt of but can he make her see everything they can be together or will Isabelle keep running from him.
I liked the first one better with Sera and Liam. I really didnt like Stefan. He was such a jerk sometimes I just wanted to punch him in the face and I never felt they really loved each other rather then just being stuck with each other because they are soul mates.
The second in the Vampire awakenings series, and I think I have found my new found favourite series. Brenda has well and truly brought back me into the world of vampires, I really recommend this book to you all.
The first “Awakened” was based on Sera and Liam, since then they have had 10 children…… yep 10! See my previous review. What I think I am going to like about this series is that each book follows the same story line, re visiting previous characters however the point of view is from a different perspective. This book is based on Isabelle the second eldest of the 10 children. The way Brenda has wrote these books reminds me of how author Nalini Singh shares her books, same story but different characters perspectives. It keeps the series fresh, and leaves you wanting more.
You could read this as a stand alone, however for better context I would advise reading the whole series, it flows better. Isbaelle and Stefan portray plenty of sexual tension throughout, each chapter was full of character growth, love and pure lust. I really liked the family dynamic, and the inside jokes.
The action again was fast and happened in the very end, I wish it was spread throughout the book. As soon as the fighting began it ended.
I enjoyed reading about Liam and Sera throughout, but they were mentioned briefly leaving Isabelle as the clear focus. Was weird to think that Stefan is older than Sera’s parents.
So far out of the two books this is my favourite. I do think there was some influence from the twilight saga series in this.
Ok. Good plot could do some more. For a vampire that old I was expecting something more vampire tastic. I have read kresley cole Luther and it was something else. The crying females come on. Goodness. Not needed. And there were some repetitive areas. Some fun areas were in there.
So, to make this quick and painless, I didn't feel it. I just couldn't catch up to the romantic vibes that this story was supposed to be made of. I shook my head about 90% of the time.
After all the hell that Stefan put me through throughout the entirety of this book (especially the first half of it) I cannot give this more than three stars. However, I cannot give it any less due to the truly sophisticated nature of Davies' writing. Once again, she has managed to create a unique and captivating world with her vampire characters.
Isabelle is the second oldest child of Sera and Liam's ten children. (WOWZAH!!) She has lived her entire life safely ensconced in her family's rural territory. She is perfectly content with her secluded lifestyle, along with her older brother Ethan, until one fateful night she meets Stefan, the vampire destined to change her eternity forever.
Stefan is a lone-vampire, over 200 years old, with a dark and treacherous past. He has spent many years on his own, trying to find a place to call home, when he meets Issy; a sassy, born-vampire female determined to fight his advances at every turn. But he is determined to have her, whether she accepts him or not.
So...as I said before, Stefan put me and Issy through all kinds of Hell throughout this entire book, all because he was too afraid to man up and own his feelings for her. His condescending attitude and unending arrogance and dismissal of her feelings had me raging on multiple occasions. F***er. After finishing this book, I've taken a neutral stance when it comes to him. I no longer hate the guy, but at the same time I also kind of hate him. Ya catch my drift? Ugh. I am officially Switzerland.
This who thing was a bit to melodramatic for my tastes. I LOVED seeing how Sera and Liam's family has grown and expanded over the past couple decades, and it warms me to see my favorite couple so in love and still going strong. But that shiz that played out between Issy, Stefan, and Jess (Frickin JESS) was like a douse of frigid water on my happy emotions. I have to say, I DETEST love triangles. ESPECIALLY when they are keeping the heroine from claiming her rightful guy. I just don't find enjoyment from that kind of drama and turmoil. If you don't have problems with love triangles or actually enjoy them then by all means PICK UP THIS BOOK! It really is a pretty good read.
Generally the second book of a series isn't nearly as good as the first but this one succeeded in being just as good or maybe even better. Destined is about Isabelle(the daughter of Sera and Liam) finding her mate. Isabelle has a very strong and powerful personality that shines throughout the book and sometimes the reader gets to see her vulnerable. That vulnerability is what really sells the book because it wasn't seen in Awakened. As for Stefan, who doesn't like a possessive vampire? I will admit that at some points it was a bit over done, but it doesn't take away from this great story. The biggest character that I wasn't 100% sold on was Kathleen. She was a wonderful character in book one and I was excited to see her name in this book. Though it was just her name that we saw. Kathleen had almost no role in this book besides bringing her daughter to Sera's. I wish we saw scenes of Isabelle with Sera and Kathleen to show Isabelle that humans aren't all bad like she thinks. I believe that if Isabelle was exposed to the friendship Sera and Kathleen share then she would start to question her choices of staying out of town and thus making her character grow.
A great sequel to Awakened by Brenda K. Davies. The angst in this book is thrilling and intense. I will never forget the kitchen scene....that is all I will say about that *wink*
You are emotionally drawn to Isabelle's struggle to not want to fall into the same fate as her parents but the pull of the very sexy, and swoon worthy Stefan is irresistible. I mean that man can come over to renovate my house anytime...shirtless of course!
The chemistry between these two is undeniable but Isabelle's independent streak is getting in the way. In more ways than one unfortunately.
completely enjoyed it :-) seeing all the characters from the first in the series and also seeing the kids Liam and Sera had :-) even though Kathleen was there, she wasnt very involved in the story, which sucks but then again this is Stephen and Isabelles' story. although what bothered me was that throughout the whole story all they did was argue and fight ( okay, there were a few exceptions) seeing their love made up for it.lol. but... i really want more Liam and Sera!
I didnt enjoy this one as much as the first, isabelle was a imature, winny bratt, she really annoyed me, constantly hot and cold all the time with Stefan, how he never killed her il never know, if id been him id have strangled her the first day i met her. The only good thing about this book was that you heard more about the characters from the first book, i loved that.
I was glad to take a step forward and see how the children turned out. The characters are all likable and seem like the types you wouldn't mind knowing. It is well written and makes me long for more about this family of Vampires.
* The audio gave a whole new life to the series and the narrator does a great job of giving voice to each characters whether male or female.
