Good ending to Rina’s story although I wish it was more strung out since students study at the academy for at least 7 years before graduating. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning since it gave insight into Rina & Leander’s summer in the land of the Fae. The previous book didn’t depict it, but she opted however to recap it by starting the new year at school. My one complaint however is that the king strikes a wager with Leander about a challenge Rina must win in order to earn the right to court Leander. They spend their weeks “training” and enjoying each other’s company in private but when the challenge begins, Rina desperately starts asking Leo what she should do. It really bothered me because shouldn’t she have already discussed this while training??? It’s an oversight that I feel should have been reworked in the editing stage. It’s simple to change it to discussing tactics they had already decided on while training.

The middle of the book is a bit chaotic by design, and passes by in a blur although the time lapse of the school year is more well written than previous books. The conflict begins before the end of the year which is a welcome change although it does occur towards the end of the year. It happens about 60% through the book which is surprising but nice. I also liked how the conflict is resolved. It gives closure to what’s been happening for the past three books now, and allows growth in a new character which is one of Rina’s friends. She also circles back to the challenge at the end of the book to decide if Rina can attend court with Leander or not. After everything is said and done, I’m still interested in the series and curious to see what conflict Jas will face in her miniseries.

Okay, the last book of Rhees story is the best book. It all seemed to come alive, and I suddenly found myself invested.

I think it helped this time we got to see what happened over the winter break. Then, so much more happened, and it became faster with event after event. For some reason, it felt short, but I think it's because I finally clicked with the characters only for it all to finish.

I know there are 4 more books in this series, but it moves only to Jass story, and I don't think I clicked enough to want to find out. I'm happy to leave it here for now.

We get troll mooning antics, power evolution, more spice with some smex, but no smut.
It finished with a HEA
I still didn't get to know the MMC, I just know he's a Fae Prince and he is good and loving...sounds meh, but who knows maybe the rest of Jass story builds up the characters more...

Good easy read, YA, and doesn't really go beyond that a lot. Action, fantasy, and I still don't understand who ended up with who...besides Leo and Rhee (ya, I learnt their names!)

3.4 stars - rated by a lady in her late 30s
(If I was reading this when I was 16, I would have rated this much higher. It is the type of books I use to devour)

4.5 ⭐️

I have really enjoyed reading this series...and I think there is one more book to come so I am curious where it'll lead. With a School of Magical Creatures though it could be anything.

After seeing how this ended though I'm a little unsure what the new threat would be as it really felt like most stuff was tied up. Especially with Rage & Fury and even later on with the competition with Leander's brother. Maybe something more will arise in that department and exploring her magical abilities. So I'm kinda a little clueless there. Weirdly enough lol I have missed the cliffhanger with this one. So weird to think that I'd miss a cliffhanger.

Anywho I did really love where this story went...it really opened up a whole world where the Academy had gone bananas and was doing some downright odd things. It kept me engaged trying to work out what was happening and how Rage & Fury connected into it (because that was just a given right?).

I loved watching as Rina's powers really developed and how she found the strength inside to grow mentally and physically. Especially towards the end with everything she and her friends had gone through. She became confident in who she was and basically embraced it. Which was awesome. You gotto embrace all of you even when parts of yourself freak you out.

Another thing I have really enjoyed from the start was the friendships of all of them. From her brother Ky and Wren, Jas, Boone, Sadie, Dave, Adalia and Leander. I love the support and growth of this group and how they always have each others back. Each character is unique and so well thought out that they really do come to life and you love them all just as fiercly. Even her close friends aside down to the Trolls and teachers etc. So much pops up and you aren't sure if you like one character one minute and the next you're like hang on a minute I kinda do (Ahem crazy professor teacher Hapblomb such an odd-ball that one lol)...and then you have the mother killer Rabbit shifter Roberta - She cracks me up lol but I'm with Rina on this one I'll like her from afar very afar. You don't wanna mess with a woman thats got like what was it 320 kids? Crickey that's just crazy. Bunny apocalypse waiting to happen there lol. So my point here is that Lucia does a fabulous job crafting all her characters to perfection.

There is honestly a lot to love about these books and a lot will go down and you'll just be like wow ok then. Other times I did feel like it was pretty predictable but for me, it didn't take away from the joy of reading the story any.

Get ready to be swept away in a world of magical creatures and magic where anything is possible with a girl that was never really meant to be.

You, however, are unheard of. Mage powers don’t mix with shifter magic. They never have. Not in all of recorded magical history.”

And yet here she is. Rina Nelle Mont. Shifter and Mage.

So strap on your boots and prepare to be taken on a magical ride.

These books are so good. I love everything about them. I felt so bad for Rina. It seemed her year was going to suck. Not only that but the love of her life may be ending by the end of this book. I am glad to see that by the end of the book Rina was able to have her happy day. I can't wait to continue the journey of these stories.

‘Mage Shifter’ is book three in Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy.

With Ky and Boone out hunting for Rage and Fury, Rina goes to the Golden Forest with Leander to spend her Winter break. After spending her Summer break there Rina knows it’s going to be awkward and difficult, especially now that Leo and her have feelings for each other and don’t want to ignore them. Will Leo be able to convince his father the King of the Fae to allow them to explore their feelings. But proving to the King she is worthy of her son is the least of her problems, with Rina’s Mountain Lion gone she needs to learn to use her mage magic. Will the MCA allow her to return for her third semester now that she is no longer a shifter? Will her brother find Rage and Fury? Will she be allowed to date Leo? Can she move on without her Lion?

So I have been very hesitant about reading this book, it’s not because I don’t enjoy the authors writing style, it’s just I had trouble with connecting and bonding with this series. I had said it with my previous book reviews that I found the characters too immature and annoying. But I will say this, this book was a lot more enjoyable. Although I still felt that there were some story missing, it was still well written with an intriguing and interesting plot that will have you guess right till the end.

I felt that Rina’s character did do a lot of maturing in this book. At times she still did frustrate me, but overall she was a lot more tolerable. Her struggles was a lot more believeable and I felt she dealt with them admirably.
Even Jas did annoy or irritate me in this book, it seemed her character had cooled down a bit and was so snarky or b*tchy. (Which I found her to be).
But I still love Leander, Wren, Dave, Boone, Adalia, Sadie and Ky, these characters are such extraordinary additions to this book, they help keep you hooked and entertained.

I loved that we got to see what happened in the Golden Forest while Rina and Leo where there. Watching the relationship between them both grow and flourish regardless of the obstacles in their way was beautiful. Being able to see and understand why Leo was so hesitant about them being together, makes more sense now after witnessing he’s father and the rest of the Fae council.

Although this book concludes Rina and Leander’s story it doesn’t mean that the story ends here. You will be able to continue and enjoy the world of MCA along with its students and Professors you’ve come to love and hate in Jas books.

“Mage Shifter: Magical Creatures Academy: Book Three”
Ashta brings the readers right back into the amazing world of the Witching World Universe with her third installment, “Mage Shifter.” We are reunited with Rina Nelle Mont, a creature that shouldn’t exist…but yet does. Hunted for her magical abilities, it seems as if Rina will never be allowed to just be. She wants to be a normal nineteen year old mage shifter, but someone seems determined to make sure that never happens.
Ashta is able to bring about the suspension of disbelief in her readers with her wonderful writing. She allows for the transportation into a world that shouldn’t exist, yet readers wish with all their hearts that it does. Adding humor and love into the mix, and Ashta provides a great addition to her Witching World Universe.
A few things:
The Romance. Watching Rina and Leander fall in love has been a great addition to the story. The second son of the elven king falling in love with a mere human who has lost her shifter magic..yes. Just yes to all of that.
The Plot. It was so well done. I enjoyed watching what was going to happen…oh, and the fact that Rina is able to handle herself and fight for herself. That just added so much more. We need more badass females who don’t rely on men to make it all happen. Great job!
The Writing. Ashta’s writing style is engaging and enjoyable. She kept the pages turning and kept my nose in the book, even while making dinner (because kids need to eat apparently). I wasn’t able to put it down once I started it and I loved every minute of it.
I appreciate the way Ashta ended the book…with just enough of an ending to leave it still open for more (please add more…seriously, I need it!). All in all, a wonderful read. Make sure to read the other Magical Creature Academy books first, “Night Shifter” and “Lion Shifter” and then delve into the rest of Ashta’s books only to surface in a month to wonder why there isn’t more…

The Details:
- Upper YA/NA
- Fantasy/Urban Fantasy Academy Genre
- Book 3 in a series

Aww!
This book brought all the feels and I turned the last page with a warmth in my heart and a happy and eager feeling as I look forward to the continuing series, because while Rina's story has been completed, Lucia Ashta hasn't finished playing around with the characters and world that she's created with the Magical Creatures Academy series.
Which makes me so darn happy!
I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the continuing series that will be told from Jas's POV.
I can't wait to learn more about this character that has drawn my interest since the beginning of the series.
But enough about the new book, let's talk about this one.
In this book, readers will see Rina face challenges with a strength she didn't know she possessed and fight to save her life, her friends, the school and her relationship with the man she loves, Prince Leander, Prince of the Fae, who she's been forbidden from continuing a relationship with.
Watch and cheer as Rina rises from strength to strength.
A Great Read
Definitely Recommended.

Hurray, Rina FINALLY Found Her Inner Bad@ss!!🎉🙏💥
Fighting For The Right To Love.💘🔥💘
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Mage Shifter (Magical Creatures Academy #3)

We start this book off in Leander's home where he's asking his Father & King to allow him date Rina. His request is refused furiously but Leander persists until he gets an agreement that if Rina can win a fight against his brother, the heir to the throne, she'll have proven that her worth & power is equal to any Fae or Elf and she'd therefore be considered a part of their Court & 'good enough'!🙈 His Father agrees, thinking it's impossible, Rina agrees with him!😳 Back at school things start going haywire almost immediately with its long standing magic. The bells ring at wrong times, doors lock, the plants start attacking pupils & professors!😱 Something is seriously weird!!😳 To make matters even worse Rina's mage magic starts acting up!💥

This was definitely the best book of this series so far. Rina FINALLY starts to come into her own, magically & especially with her inner strength & self confidence.🙏💪 She doesn't back down as easily & doesn't just wait to be rescued all the time, Yay.🎉 The older guys don't seem to crowd her group quite as much either. The Author really upped her game with this book!🌟

While some plot elements were very similar to the previous volume in this series, I’ve grown to like Rina. Her arc is solid and she actually becomes a likeable person. I also enjoyed the fact there were two important storylines related to unfinished plot points from the earlier books, and both were wrapped up most satisfyingly.

As expected, this novel actually has some spice, and the series can definitely be considered slow burn NA contemporary fantasy with a dash of spiciness. I appreciated how things developed between Rina and Leander. It was a nice touch, and while things seemed a little immature previously, I was happy to see both characters fighting for their relationship. There were some really nice moments on that front.

I also appreciate that although there was scope for Rina to seek revenge or act on emotion, most of her battles, whether against the gang trying to steal her magic or the bullies at school, she behaved in ways I could respect and made choices that felt right. I’m so glad the author chose to go that way, since it’s rare, and I really despise pettiness, so this was an added bonus that actually raised this series in my esteem.

There is definitely a lot of food for thought in this third book that makes reading the series totally worthwhile.

Mage Shifter is Book 3 in the Magical Creatures Academy series. Lucia Ashta's world building and character development are phenomenal. The storyline flowed beautifully throughout the three books in this series. Rina Nelle Mont is a wonderful character with heart. She is the one you would want watching your back in any situation. She would come to your aid at the drop of a hat. The relationship between Rina and Leo was beautifully written and was so great to see they got their HEA. There is a lot going on in this book -- Wonky and dangerous magic happening at the Academy, Rina being kidnapped, to name a couple. This is a fast-paced, action-packed, page-turning adventure that catches/draws you into the story at page one and does not let you go until the last page and it leaves you wanting more. This is a book and series that should be read and one which I highly recommend. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I basically liked this book as well as the previous two. I've rated all three with 4 stars. IF a book that makes me laugh as well as makes me cry and I didn't want to put it down it will get 5 stars. With the 4 star rating these books made me laugh or chuckle at least. At no time did I ever think of crying in any of the three but I did want to keep reading. I didn't like the Authors story liberty of making things happen just to add more story. IE: In the Academy #3 Rina takes off running. You and I, as the readers, KNOW that Leo would have sprouted his wings and taken flight after her. Sad but the Author liberty of not writing it that way gave us more to read. That is ONLY ONE example. You as a reader I'm sure will notice as many as I did. But, I will admit, that most of the events that didn't happen and caused Rina to have more and more difficulties did make for some interesting story lines.

Wowzaaaa! This book got off to a very romantic start! It made me fall in love with Leander. He’s so sweet. But when school started for the magical creatures, it was nonstop action. Something was wonky with the protection spell on the Magical Creatures Academy and no one seemed to be able to figure out what was going on let alone how to fix it. So many mishaps were almost comical if it weren’t so serious. Then Rina gets kidnapped along with her friends, Jas and Wren. Rina had so many complications to figure out. Plus she was up against two very experienced dark sorcerers. All Rina could do was to go with her gut feelings to create an escape for her and her friends. Such an exciting twist! This was such a wonderfully written magical mystery story that only Ms Ashta could create and write. I love, love, loved it!

I loved getting to the ending of this series, I really enjoyed this series. It's a nice quick easy read but full of magic and wonder.

Rina is once again a great character. She is definately growing and becoming her own person. She grows into her magic well and I really enjoyed reading about it.

There wasn't much interaction between Rina and her brother Ky in this book and I missed it. I also missed the silent Boone, he was barely in it.

The incident at the beginning felt a little irresponisble on the teachers part (even for a school for magic), but it did help the story along. Also the three boys just turning up seemed a little easy, characters should not be able to luck themselves out of a situation.

Rina is a little niave but she is not dumb so I do like her creative ways to get out of things.

4 out of 5 stars

A little unbelievable.

While I fully enjoyed this book. Some parts just "happened" and it made it unbelievable. Rina is taught never to make up spells yet she does this several times and it just works for her. Ugh. Why is she the only special one? Glad the series is moving into the direction of jas. Jasmine Jolly if you will. By the end of this book i am kinda over Rina and her magical powers that just seem to work out in the Nick of time for her (insert she roll).

* This book had a very intense detailed sex scene that I thought was just unnecessary. Fade to black. Cut the scene. Ugh. No one needs that much detail. Especially in a book like this.
While this book was a far stretch and less believable and had the unnecessary sex scene i still enjoyed it. But like I said glad we are moving on. Rina was almost getting on my nerves.

It started in the fae realm but you learn nothing about it. Her and leo sleep together for the first time. she to battle his brother to be able to have a relationship to prove herself. Then it skips to the academy where nothing much happens but wonki magic. Then, we come to the conclusion of her chapter.

Its alot of waffling on about stuff that is meh, which is why i gave it 3 starts.

I would have enjoyed it better if it had more info on the classes, if she learnt more. She was doing spells at one point, yet hand told the teacher wouldn't teach her

Overall, it's an okay read. As much as i liked jas as a character, i won't be reading her story, which is the next 4 books in the series.

Im glad this was one of those buy for free sets. Where i didn't enjoy it too much, i know my daughter will.

I love Rina Nelle Mont, the star of Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy 3: Mage Shifter. She’s just the sort of strong gal who knows what she wants and will do what it to get it that I want to be. So what if she’s facing problems that would overwhelm most? That’s not going to stop her, and as a result we readers get yet another fantastic story to add to this great series, really well written, full of great characters and with an exciting, and wonderfully fun (sometimes really funny), plot. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Redeemed!

Book 3 has redeemed itself! Oops...spoiler alert! Rina gets her mountain lion back! Redeemed. Rina opens a can of whoop in various stages throughout the story line. Redeemed. Rina definitely gets her man! Mega redeemed!
The pace really kicks up in the final book as compared to book 1 and book 2. Which I liked. The previous 2 books seemed a little drawn out. I really liked how this third book kicked off in the face realm and setting a tone for our weak little heroine. Who ends up being a strong defiant fighter. Me like! I wasn't sure how this was going to go down but book 3 upped its game big time. I still don't care for Rinas character flaw of being a total space case at the most intense moments but I guess it's ok she's not perfect.

Magical Creatures Academy: Mage Shifter

The loss of her lion sent Dina spiralling into a whirlpool of despair, but her friends wouldn't let her remain in a depressed state. Her love for Leander, Prince of the elves also helped. But Rina's worries aren't over yet.

Fighting for the right to openly love Leander, Rina and her crew head back to the academy, and chaos reigns. The spells that protect and hide the academy are on the fritz, and hidden danger surrounds the young teens. Can Rina find a way to regain what she's lost, or will she lose it all?

Wowza what a ride! A roller coaster of action and emotion, this book keeps you guessing!

Favorite in the series.

SPOILER ALERT: Rina finally comes into her own in this book. She is able to fend for herself & fight back. Hallelujah!!! Poor girl's been needing a confidence booster. Anyway the school spell goes crazy. Everything goes nuts! It's like horror school high, lol. Then Rina's magic starts going crazy. During shifter class 2 of her friends get hurt. The teacher wasn't very helpful during the crisis. Rina finds herself doing spells she has no idea what the outcome would be. The outcomes are hilarious! And the ending is epic!!! Great job Lucia. Loved what happened to Stacy! Couldn't have happened to a better person. ;) ;) Lol.

Magical Creatures Academy Mage Shifter

I found it frustrating that Rina is going to a school where she is supposed to be learning about being a Mage and a Shifter yet when things hit the fan she panics, then scrambles with a fake it till you make it sort of move. She has already learned that typical ways don't work for her yet when in class she doesn't put her own spin on her powers to practice. It's only when someone could be hurt or die that she gives it a spin. Then the notorious school with its well known rules and expectations bends the rules just for her to be able to play house and share her room with Leo.

Great ending for Rina

I’m just going to continue with my high ratings of these books. This is my second time reading this series. Loved it just as much as the first time. I do get tired of seeing all the negative reviews about predictability and how dramatic the characters are. When it comes to teenagers, that’s just to be expected. I think this author did a great job of following the tropes.

And I think the characters are unique as well. Well developed and fun.

The minor editing issues still bug me throughout this series, but it is some thing I have come to accept in exchange for the fun read.

I voluntarily review an ARC.
This is the third part of the MCA series. It's the last book in Rina's POV, but I'm glad there are more books coming. It seems I can't get enough of this magical world with so many different and wonderful shifters, mages and fascinating creatures, with loss and love, dramatic adventures, interesting settings and twists and turns you won't see coming.
Lucía Ashta has an impeccable writing style and sense for world building and character development.
Wholeheartedly recommended!

This one was a good conclusion. Finally, Rina begins to fight for what she wants and for herself. Rina is not waiting for prince charming to rescue her. She is saving herself like every strong woman. Sadly, that makes Leander look weak even so we know from previous books he is not. They should have fought more beside each other. I would have liked to see more of thw shifter.
Also, sometimes everything felt rushed and on the other hand some passages were too long-winded. I think the story could have fitted in two books better and I still would have liked it.

Karma is a bitch

Rina and her friends return to the academy once more, things are getting weirder and as if that wasn't enough she has to fight a Far to stay with Leander.
Rage and his brother want Rina, Fury has her mountain lion now they want her mage magic too. Things are going wrong, spells are activating and stopping the students and staff from moving around. Dark mates are coming for Rina, can she outfit them again and keep the magic she still has?
A must read for all lovers of supernatural worlds.

A satisfying ending

So, I wasn't sure how it was going to go, but it was satisfying in that it made me feel all happy with how everything worked at the end.
I'm grateful that it didn't follow the usual cliches, and I certainly appreciate the whole girl power stuff, but some of the resolutions were a little bit simplistic. I know, I'm almost never happy with how things go with this series, but something is not exactly working for me. It was a good ending in that everything worked out perfectly, but the series and the world is not working for me, for some reason. I'm looking at this like the end and I don't think I will be reading more.

Book 3 in the Magical Creatures Academy

Shifters. Fae. Supernaturals. Mages. Magic.

Find a reason to believe in magic again. Fight for what you want. Battling a different fight. Bonding amid the circumstances. Never give up.

If you like paranormals in a hidden academy setting, this is the book for you. It's filled with all the typical aspects you'd expect with some twists along the way. Strong character development and detailed world building.

Although this is book 3 in a 7 book series, it concludes the main storyline for one couple.

Rina is starting her third term at the academy, and all sorts of weird things start to happen inside the school. Will Rina and her friends and family be able to figure out what is going on and stop if before it gets any worse?
This book is action packed and will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. You will not be wanting to put it down until the very end. I loved everything about it and am excited for what comes next

I’m new to Lucia Ashta and I can’t recommend her highly enough! This entire Magical Creatures Academy series has been a nail biter and a thrilling read. You need to start with her first book in this series, Night Shifter to get the full effect of the trials and tribulations Rina has to face in this magical world. This is a fun read with a great character development. I highly recommend this entire series by Lucia Ashta.
