Memories of Broken Glass

An Astra Militarum Short Story

READ IT BECAUSE
Nothing entertains like a proper war story. This short celebrates them in-universe, as the protagonist of Longshot recounts an old battle to a comrade.

THE STORY
Darya and Ullaeus lie in ambush on the glass deserts of Kizmir, waiting for their high-value target to pass along a scouted route in order to spring their trap. As they look for ways to distract themselves from the seemingly endless hours beneath the baking sun, Darya tells the story of her last mission for the Cochlerati Janissaries and how she was dragged from their ranks and given to the Cadian 217th.

Another Great Story From A great author

The story telling is superb, the way The author is able to take you in and out of situations and thoughts within the confines of The characters is fantastic. Descriptions and the images Rob Young creates are original and inspired. No deeper knowledge is presumed on the readers behalf and truly none is needed.

"Book after book, I get hooked every time the writer talks to me like a friend" - Marc Bolan

A story told through Flashback of Darya Nevic's final mission with her planet's defenders. Her mentor takes her on a run to take out a heretical leader allowing her to lead the mission and overcome her emotions to focus on fulfilling her objective. Not sure WHY it had to be told in flashback except to give us a somewhat ambiguous ending. But the writing is as good as we see in TRANSPLANTS and LONGSHOT so any more time with Darya is welcome.
