My name is Conner Garrison and I’m a failure.

The men in my family are some of the most successful hockey players of all time, and I’m about to get dropped from the entire league. How do I face them?

Avoiding my large, well-meaning, but invasive family is how I end up face-to-face with my childhood crush at midnight. And I happen to be as naked as the day I was born.

Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Larue is five years older than me, gorgeous, and about to become a doctor. She’s also dealing with a crushed ego, thanks to a bad ex-boyfriend. Finally, something I can fix.

I might not be able to save my career but I can help this incredible woman rebuild her confidence. As a friend. She sees me as a work project, nothing else.

But the more time we spend together, the more I start to believe that if I can earn back my career, maybe I can earn her heart her too.

if you love hockey romances, this book is for you…

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I want to thank Victoria Denault for this ARC of “Conner”. I absolutely devoured this book and I cannot stop thinking about it.

Victoria Denault is now an auto-buy author for me. if you are into hockey romances, she is now your go-to.

conner garrison is so hard on himself it makes me sad. he has so much to live up to, being the son of a famous hockey player. conner is hot, forward, and the most charming and sweet guy around. seriously, i swooned over this man like 100x over.

mac is the strong, powerful woman we all need to read about!! she had a rough childhood and struggles with her mental health. her and conner were made for each other. they both have the perfect amount of sass that makes them work together so well😌

now let me just say, victoria denault can write some SPICY SCENES🌶️🥵 highly recommend experiencing them😌

ONE LAST THING: denault is an extremely talented writer - like is unbelievable. she gives each character the perfect backstory, and even though conner has like 500 family members (an exaggeration) in this book, i was never lost.

i couldn’t put this book down🫶🏻📖

So, I was actually feeling a fantasy novel when Conner arrived. But like every other book by Victoria Denault, as soon as I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. This new series starts with Connor, the son of Devin Garrison and Mac, daughter of Alex Larue, both heros from previous novels by Denault. We also have a chance to revisit a few characters from a few series by this talented author.

Connor and Mac, both a bit broken and lost, find home with each other. I can't wait to see who we're getting to know more about next in this series. I look forward to more banter between the cousins of the original hockey royals. Thank you to Victoria Denault for the ARC and the opportunity to get a sneak peak of this 5 star hockey read.

Conner was the first book in Victoria Denault’s Hockey Royalty series. The series was a second generation spin off from her Hometown Players series.

I enjoyed both Conner and MacKenzie. They both had insecurities: MacKenzie from her past prior to her adoption, and Conner from his Hockey Royalty name. I enjoyed exploring both and watching their development; however, I also wanted more depth. There were several parts to the storyline and although they all mostly concluded, I wanted a deeper dive into each one. There were still a couple of challenges where I wanted more closure. At the same time, it was a great introduction into the rest of the series with various siblings and cousins. All in all, it was a quick and enjoyable read and great segue into what’s to come.

Conner is the first book in the Hockey Royalty series by Victoria Denault. I was really excited to read this after Victoria teased it a few months back and it did not disappoint!

Conner Garrison comes from a family that has had generations of professional hockey players and they have become known as hockey royalty. Conner is currently struggling with the dynamics on his team, which is under new management. He's headed back to his hometown and he's fearful of sullying the family name and failing to succeed like others before him.

Mac Larue is working her way toward being a psychologist, however she did not grow up having the best childhood. She struggles with feelings of inadequacy, of being unlovable and being undeserving of good things coming to her.

Conner and Mac have known one another for a while, but they end up reconnecting in the most shocking way for both of them. While it may not have been ideal, it turns out that they may be able to help one another. Mac helps Conner to see things in a different way, while Conner is there for Mac in ways that no one has ever shown up for her before.

This book had a bit of everything; it was steamy, angsty, sweet, and there were difficult and sad times too. The Garrison family is such a fun dynamic in this book. The group chat had me chuckling on more than one occasion. While they may tease one another, it is clear there is a lot of love there. I absolutely would recommend this book and I am already looking forward to the next one in the series!

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**

Can you say swoon? Holy Mother of all creation, I am in love with Conner. I absolutely loved this book from start to finish.

The characters in this book were so fun to read. Mac was so fierce, so independent, and so lovable. And can we talk about the career she is planning. Heart of gold and bada$$, what a combination. Conner's character compliments her to a tee. He is kind, loves his family, and the fact that he has had a crush on her since he was eight. Well, my heart just melted. He is so supportive of her, and that's what every girl hopes for. Their first meeting in years made me laugh, and swoon, so damn hard. I mean, come on! Who wouldn't like seeing that? And they way he too charge wheen T.P. showed up, made me love him even more.

The flow of this book was exactly what I had hope for. To me, it was seamless and so smooth. I love it when books are like that. It just makes them a joy to read. I had a hard time putting down once I was able to concentrate on it (damn adulting). But seriously, I hate that this book ended. I am, however, excited to see who is next in this series and following them on their journey. I may actually have to take the time to go back and read the first series with all of these guys' parents. .....my TRB list just grew again.

If you like hockey romance, fake boyfriend/girlfriend, HEA, funny and steamy books, this one is a mist read. It definitely deserves the 5 ⭐️'s I'm giving it in my humble opinion.  Quick go grab it! You won't be disappointed!

I have found a new hockey romance series to love! I have read a couple of books now by Victoria Denault and am becoming a big fan. She has a great writing style, I love the plots and the romance element. It is all very well done. This series is actually going to be about the kids of a previous series and it makes me want to go back and read all the books about the parents.

So this book follows Conner who is hockey royalty; he is called the prince of hockey as his dad was a legend in the league. Conner has been struggling on the team and not gelling with his coaches or management. So when he is going to put on waivers his confidence tanks and he goes home to basically hide out. That's when he reconnects with Mackenzie (Mac) who is a family friend but is older so they never connected much as kids. Mac just got out of a horrible relationship so Conner decides to be her fake boyfriend to boost her confidence. This also gives him some confidence as it is something to take his mind off hockey. Their fake relationship starts to turn into something all to real however. But Mac doesn't feel deserving due to her past and Conner has never had to work for anything he really wanted in life. Add in some crazy family dynamics, a new team, a new coach and everything makes for an excellent story.

Overall a great read and I would recommend if you love sports romance. Very well written and an enjoyable storyline.

Victoria Denault begins her Hockey Royalty series with Conner. As I'm currently in my sports romance era, I couldn't wait to read this one.

Conner Garrison descends from many great hockey players. He's a current NHL player who is struggling with his place on the team, his coach, and team management despite being the captain. When he's prematurely told that the team is putting him on waivers, he heads to his hometown to figure out his next step. However, when he gets into town, he's not sure how to share the disappointing news with his well-meaning, but overbearing family. While hiding out from them, he runs into Mac.

Mac is in her final year of school to become a psychologist. She grew up on the streets until a former hockey player adopted her. The reader sees how she overcomes feelings of being inadequate, unlovable, and undeserving of good things in her life. Her previous relationship ended when she was cheated on which didn't help those feelings.

Conner and Mac reconnect (childhood friends) and find out that they are what each other needs. Mac helps Conner see things from a different angle. She encourages him to look past this and work toward what comes next. Conner shows her how she should be treated, cherished, and loved.

The main characters, supporting characters, and storyline were great. Conner and Mac overcoming challenges and finding love was the cherry on top of this yummy sundae. I definitely recommend you read it!

We are back with the Garrison family and their close friends, only it's been a bit. Conner is grown--in all the best ways. An all-star hockey player in his own right, he's struggling with the dynamics within his team under new management.

Mac Larue is well on her way in her career as a psychologist, but that doesn't mean she's got it all figured out. More like, she's well aware she doesn't!
A chance meeting in the well-loved barn apartment has everyone blushing. Can those tinged cheeks hide the fake in fake dating?

Victoria Denault ... auto buy author.
Hockey romance... auto buy trope/genre.
Put those two things together and you have the epitome of perfection!

Look, Denault doesn't write bad books. She doesn't know how, I don't think. And when she gives us a chance to go back and revisit characters we've loved in the past? She's just GIVING! I can't say this book was written specifically for me (though I wish I could), but it sure feels like it. With the fake dating trope. The age gap of 5 or 6 years. The friends to lovers. The SPICE! It's the ultimate comfort read for when the weather's trash and you just want all the good stuff.

An emotional roller coaster, up-down-up-down. Fake, real, fake, real. Friends, nothing, almost lovers, nothing, lovers, nothing, lovers.
I couldn’t put it down, I had to keep reading to make sure that these two found their way together.
Conner is hockey royalty, but has dropped by his team. He has intense feelings of failure, inadequacy and fear of never living up to his name.
Mac was a street child, she has deep feelings of inadequacy, of being undeserving and unlovable.
Both have issues they need to get over and with each other’s help they can get there.
Their parents are friends so they’ve known each other since she was adopted.
With Conner spiralling from his career drama and Mac recovering from a terrible breakup they come back into each other’s lives unexpectedly but at exactly the right time.
Emotional, sweet, steamy, angsty and at times heartbreaking but ultimately love wins.
I love the family dynamics of the Garrison clan, the family group chats and the unconditional love and support they provide.
I have loved this next generation series starter and look forward to the next books.

Thank you to the author.

I loved Connor and Mac... they were so great together from the very beginning..... it was coming off the very first page they were together that they were going to have FABTASTIC chemistry! Connor is the son of a hockey great! And not too shaby in his own right...... but he has been labeled as a nepo-hockey player. He find out he is getting let go from the team that drafted him and he doesnt take it well at all..... so he goes home for the holiday...... Enter Mac! She is trainging to be a psychiatrist and ends up helping him through this hard time...in more ways than 1. But what you dont expect is the insight that Connor provides Mac on her own issues.

This book was really great! I very much enjoyed the banter that Connor has with his family. And I loved the way he didn't take a long time to realize when he messed up! He didnt drag it out! Definitely a book that I will tell others they need to read!

4 1/2 STARS!

Sassy and fun new hockey series from Victoria Denault! Hot hockey player down on his luck collides with sexy new doc feeling the slump of heartache ... and the rest as they say is history! The banter is adorable, the passion is steamy and the heart is so utterly perfect. I loved the main characters and there's so many great supporting members of the team and the fam that sparkle on the pages as well. I can't wait to see where Denault takes this series next.

Conner is a great character because he's a hunky hockey stud who is taken down a notch when he has to come to terms with the world not working exactly as he had planned and learning to breath and pick up the pieces with the best of us. I adored his family and he really grew with this experience.

Mac is a doll and I really liked them together. Her life could have used a bit more development, but the angst was there.

I recommend this book to hockey fans who enjoy a new set of characters to sink your teeth into and get to know.

I adore books by Victoria Denault and this book is no exception.

One of my favorite type of books are next gen which is what we get here. Conner is hockey royalty trying to live up to expectations and according to his team he has fallen short. As he is struggling with being waived he goes home for the holidays where he “runs into” and old friend Mac who is having her own issues.

The story between these two was magic. From their first unorthodox meeting you see the struggles these 2 are facing and how their friendship - along with a ton of chemistry - help calm the storms they are both facing.

Conner was a total mess and Mac helps him find himself with her thoughtful insights. He shows up - and shows out - when the chips are down. While Mac is an awesome heroine showing your past doesn’t have to define your future.

I definitely plan to do a re-read of the original Hometown Players and can’t wait for the next book in this series. Read it - you definitely will not be disappointed in the author or the characters she brings to life in this book.

The first of many… and not to be missed

Conner is the first book in the Hockey Royalty series, and it is a delightful, entertaining, and sizzling second-chance romance. The story centers around Conner, the youngest of the Garrison clan, a family of legendary hockey players, and Mac, a psychology student, and his childhood friend. Their relationship becomes complicated while they face their own personal and professional challenges.
This was a truly enjoyable read. The plot was engaging, and full of surprises while the Connor and Mac were charming, realistic, and relatable. Their chemistry was amazing, and the scenes are spicy and emotional. I also loved the secondary characters, many from previous series and they added humor, warmth, and fun to the story.
I highly recommend this book. Victoria Denault has once again done a wonderful job of creating a story that is fun, exciting, and addictive. I can’t wait to read more about them in the next books.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hometown Players was one of my first hockey romances and continues to be one of my favorites so I was overjoyed when Victoria Denault announced this next generation series. And I can now officially say it DID NOT disappoint.

I loved seeing the parents again and Conner is *CHEF KISS*. Not only is he ”good looking/sexy” but mature and direct as well. I mean.. isnt that every girls dream?!? A guy who follows through and tells you what he wants.

The banter between the main characters and how they’re each facing their own struggles is perfection. I was hocked from the start and enjoyed the whole book start to finish. I also loved the connection with the Ocean Pines series.

Im left with one question.. who will we “meeting” next?!???

Conner Garrison has been a hockey legend in the making since his first breath. Mackenzie "Mack" Larue, is a determined psychiatry resident. Together, they are magic. This book is a fantastic trip back into to the world of Silver Bay and the Hometown Heroes hockey series that Denault has built. The Garrison-Caplan-Richard crew is back in full force and as enjoyable as before. Conner is such a call back to Devin and Callie's book, personality wise, while still being unique. And Mack is a delightful as she's been since she first appeared in Alex and Brie's book. This book has Denault's signature angst, but more mature. This book showcases the author's ability to navigate writing incredibly complex human emotions and trauma, while still keeping the story light and ultimately a romance. Conner is another Denault hit and I can't wait for the next entry into the Hockey Royalty series!

I knew going in I was going to love this because I loved the sneaky peak we had in an anthology that was released a little while ago. But getting the whole story... Can you say SWOON for Conner?

I've loved this authors work for a while now and her hockey series are top notch so I am definitely here for the next generation stories. It's been a while since I read the originals though so I definitely need to go back and re-read those now. And then we add in the crossover with Adam and Dec from Ocean Pines? Yes please for the overlap! As ever, the characters are interesting and the story flows so nicely. Everything is just so well written and a pleasure to read. I can't wait to read more in the Hockey Royalty series!

Here we meet Conner and Mac. Both characters have so much to give but also have demons and hang ups enough to hold them back. But can it really hold them back from the undeniable spark and connection they have?
Conner didn't feel like he could just be himself without living up to the famous Garrison name whereas Mac's demons all stem from her early days.
This story will have you rooting for them both right from day one and after each challenge they encounter, their fight gets a little stronger.
Mac is a sassy, sarcastic FMC with enough determination to take on some of the strongest of fights. Then we meet Conner and he's a loveable but cocky MMC with a family to back him up.
I finished this book knowing I need to go back and learn more about the Garrisons and all the family.

This book wow just wow. It gave me all of the feels. Having started reading Victoria Denault with her home town players series this was like going home. I had no idea how much I needed this book. I often think about this family and wish there were more books with them. I'm absolutely excited that Conner was the first book of the Hockey Royalty series. Devin and Callie have always been my favorites and it was amazing to see them as parents to kids in their 20s.
Conner and Mac were both a bit broken and lost. They absolutely needed each other. The chemistry between them was absolutely off the charts. I smiled the entire time reading this book. It absolutely made me so happy. This as always was incredibly well written. The characters were all absolutely amazing. Conner was very swoon worthy. I loved seeing each and every interaction he had with Mac.
Kudos Victoria Denault for the most amazing book. The hometown players series holds such a special place in my heart and I'm beyond thrilled to be reading that world again.

Another re-read coming!

Most hockey romances start with the hockey player being a hockey superstar but this one starts with Conner Garrison’s career being in the toilet and the verge of being put on waivers. Connor goes home to lick his wounds while he waits to for another team to pick him up but he didn’t want to deal with his family yet so he went to the barn apartment to hide out!

Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Larue didn’t expect someone to be in her apartment when she got home from the hospital especially Connor Garrison clad only in a towel.

I love stories that make me want to do a re-read of books that cover other family members!

I love a good "next generation" romance. Readers get a chance to reconnect with characters we already love and get to watch their offspring fall in love. It is a family reunion in a romance book. What's not to love?

In Conner, the first book in Victoria Denault's Hockey Royalty series, we meet Conner and Mac. Conner Garrison followed his father's footsteps into the NHL. Being his father's son also comes with a legacy he's struggling to live up to. When the unthinkable happens, Conner runs back to his family home in Maine to lick his wounds and wait to find out his next move. Mac is in the same boat, kind of. She moved to Maine with her now ex-boyfriend, aka TP. Although she's struggling to find her footing after being humiliated by TP, Mac is still an incredibly strong woman. After her rough start in life, she really had to be. At times, Mac feels like everything could be taken away and because of that, she's got a wall built around her heart. When Conner breaks down that wall (among other things), she knows that she is safe and can let him in.

I freaking adored this book. It shows that Victoria is a true fan of the sport. Although she does bend the rules a little bit, it doesn't take away from the hockey aspect of the book. I'm also a hockey fan and, while I do give authors a bit of leeway when it comes to the rules and regulations of the sport, it can be glaring obvious when an author makes an error. Victoria takes a few liberties with the NHL, but none that stood out and took me out of the romance. I will say this... My favorite moment in the book came towards the end during the big grovel. I LOVED that Conner didn't waste a moment. He knew he messed up big time right away and took action. That was so flipping hot. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!!

I recieved an advance copy. All opinions are my own.

5 stars for Conner by Victoria Denault

What a great read for an amazing first book of a new series, but not really a new series as you see a lot of familiar faces. The next generation of Garrisons and Richards is a hoot. Lots of love and laughter and support. Conner is a mess. Mac is also a mess. Love that they grow and support each other together. Lots of hotness together. You are reminded of their parents and their love stories. It was very nice to catch up with everyone. Can't wait for the next installment of Hockey Royalty.

• Sports Romance - Hockey
• Age Gap - She's older

I have read other books by Victoria but I'm pretty sure this is my favorite of her's! You cannot help but love Mac. She is independent, strong, resilient and reminds me of a ray of sunshine. Connor had to grow on me a bit. But by the end I loved both or them individually and for each other!

I am ready for the next book!

Conner can be read as a standalone and doesn’t end with a cliffhanger. The banter is flirty and irresistible. Conner has always had a crush on Mac and when the opportunity arises, He’s ready for his shot. Mac is five years older than Conner and never thought of taking a chance on him. But he’s not a kid anymore and he is more appealing than ever. This couple need each other and prove their happiness is more important than ever.

This was such a great read! I loved how Conner and Mac reconnected and their off the charts chemistry was amazing. They both carry some baggage which leads to some challenges that they have to work through to get their HEA. I didn't realize that this was the start of a 2nd generation series but luckily you don't have to have read the previous series to read this one. Victoria does a fantastic job giving you all of the important details needed. Looking forward to book 2.

Conner is the first book in this Hockey Royalty series and it’s started out perfectly! I loved Conner and Mac! They are such a powerful couple and the banter is off the charts! I loved it! I ate it up!

This story had me at childhood friends to lovers and the way they “reconnect” was absolutely amazing!!! But what kept me going was Conner’s alphahole attitude and Mac’s stubbornness! Their ending was epic! I just freaking loved it and I can’t wait to read Tate!

This legacy better is shaping up to be definitely better than the original series.

There’s more banter, more involvement from the side characters and it’s clear that the author’s craft developed.

At the same time, I still think those books are a bit too short to build a compelling character arc and to properly develop the relationship.

It all happens quite quickly and on the surface. It’s a nice and easy, quick afternoon read, but not a memorable story that will stay with you for long.

Having read all the Hometown Players books as long ago as six or seven years ago I was really pleased to see this book which is the start of the new series focussing on the second generation of those players featured in that series.
Connor Garrison is the son and step son of Devlin and Callie Garrison – the book which featured their romance – The Final Move - was my favourite of the whole series and it was lovely to revisit all the family.
I really liked Connor and MacKenzie (Mack). I loved how their relationship developed and progressed as well as getting to know all the cousins which I am sure will feature in future books.
I loved all the interplay with all the cousins and found the family tree at the beginning of the book very useful to see how everyone fit. I don’t think it is vital that you read the Hometown Players series but I am glad that I had.
Thank you Victoria for a great book and I can't wait to read the next one which focusses on Tate, although I have to wait until May when it is published!
