Hazard pay. The appeal of extra money while your loved one is in combat, is always enticing, until you remember why you’re getting that extra money.
Military life is not for everyone, but for me, it’s as easy as breathing. A part of my everyday life. Deployments come with their own set of rules and it takes a few weeks to find a new normal.
Unfortunately, that’s when my world came crashing down.
Life will never be the same, but maybe I can find another new normal. I’ve become accustomed to acclimating to my circumstances. But will I be able to help the seven men who have helped me through my darkest days?
Trigger PTSD, death of a spouse, military trauma's that might be described in detail, erotic displays, BDSM bondage heavy, foul language, alcoholic tendencies, pregnancy complications, and adult content.
Ok friends…gather round. This book review is gonna be a little different from the rest. Because this book is just…yes!
I warn you before you read further, this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and there is some hard subject matter to face in this. Might be why this hit different.
Absolutely 5 stars. With just a smidge of spice. The spice in this is going to be from flashbacks. Tinsley and Andreas are an adorable couple. Fell in love young and got married. He joined the Marines and military life happened. We open this book with her coping with the news of another deployment. It’s hard and it sucks. And it’s hard to truely understand the anxiety and fear that goes together unless you’ve been there. Melanie did such an incredible job relaying it all.
So with every book something big has to happen. That something is going to be Andreas not coming home, and his unit with battle scars and PTSD. IF THIS IS SOMETHING YOU CAN NOT READ, then stop here. Mental health is important and this book gives a very minimal glance but nevertheless, some of it will be hard to read. However, I found this author to be very respectful and it was done absolutely beautifully.
Continuing, Tinsley is left alone and broken. In a state of being stuck. But there are 7 men coming home feeling just as lost. They are/were Andreas’ men. And he would take care of them. He’s always been there for them. So she knows what she must do. Bring them into her home and help them heal from their injuries. Surgeries and therapy. Loss and moving forward.
Together these 7 men decide that to honor their brother, they will allow Tinsley her request. They want to look after her too after all. They know what she’s going through, and Andreas would not want her left alone. Each one of them has found themselves attracted to her light in some way, but those are lines that couldn’t ever be crossed…right?
This story is about grief, learning to handle life, and moving on missing a part of yourself. It’s also about finding family in the most unlikely places. I could not read through it fast enough. My heart broke and healed right along with them all. I would absolutely recommend this book 1000 times. 🖤
If PTSD and healing from grief is your jam, you will probably enjoy this book. For me, it was too emotional and too sow. The first few pages pulled me in with the promis of the spicy times, but the rest of the book was a bell pepper. The bulk of the story centers around a fallen marine s wife and his 7 marien brothers healing from the PTSD of war and grief of their friend/husbands death. The guys are all guilty they are attracted to her. Throughout the book, they battle little crotch tenting. This book is part one. I enjoyed the writing style, and if the whole military thing is you jam go for book 2.
I truly felt the emotions coming off the page and oh boy what an emotional range this was... The none cryer seems to be crying more this time but if you read this you understand.
This novel has been completed with such respect, compassion and love.
I absolutely need this book in all forms...even if it ends on a cliffy... I MUST have it and any other story in this world...
This story has heartache and shows that even through pain you can learn to try and love again. Loss, pain, love, fear, and hope all converge in this tale. And will have you like me waiting for book 2.
This book is absolutely phenomenal! The struggles if real life in the military feel bleed through the words! The characters are so well built They make you cry with then and laugh with them! I couldn't put it down! You need to buy this book! Like right now!
This is book one and ends on a cliffhanger. There was a few things I loved about Yellow Ribbon the very real aspect of the fear that every spouse faces and the mental aspect that is portrayed and the real feel that it has for Tinsley as well as Andreas military brothers. This is about loss of a loved one and the majority of the book is coping and the family that helps with that. So it’s emotional and you may want some tissues. It is not a spicy book while it does set up for a why choose relationship between Tinsley and the guys. I would have liked to see the book be a little longer with more depth to the guys and maybe we will see more of that in book two.
I listened to the audio of this and I wish the narration would have had more inflection to make the distinction in the voices for all the different characters.
All that being said I will be reading the next part of Tinsley story to find out what happens.
Melanie True has written a fantastic Read. The subject matter is sensitive and she handles it with a well seasoned empathy. The storyline is well written. Her characters were easy to fall in love with on an emotional level. Each has a personal story to tell that tugs at your heart This was a pleasure to read even if it did bring tears to my eyes. I definitely recommend this book!
This is a very poignant story of Love, and loss. My heart goes out to the spouses of our military that have ost their loved ones while in service and after due to PTSD.
Thank you for your a service and sacrifices.
I am looking forward to see what is in store for Tinsley and thr guys.
I swear this book has turned me inside out. I don’t like books that make me cry, I don’t read books that make me cry… I will be rereading this book even though it made me ugly cry. Great book!
Wow, this was a heartbreaking book. The grief is so raw, and the letters from Dre made me cry at times. It ends on a cliff hanger amd I can't wait for the next book.
This is definitely a tear jerker, but so worth the read. I could feel everything the characters were going through. I loved reading this book. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
