2 Extremely disappointed stars

description

I really wanted to like this book, but I ended up skimming the last 75%. It was just so torturous to get through and immensely frustrating. First of all I hate books where the H/h are sleeping with other people and in other relationships while pining for the other person. I hate them. And this is exactly what that was. They . WTF?

description

Basically there's this bullshit back and force between the H/h to the point where I was seriously questioning if they were even supposed to get together. Once again, WTF?

description

Of course, the H was just so tortured with his demons he wasn't good enough for Joss,. At this point I was seriously questioning where the hell this book was supposed to be going.

description

I just got so fed up with this book. I really felt like I was just being strung along with all this ridiculously unnecessary drama. Seriously, at least every 50 pages there was some big new reveal. And what was up with all these different POVs? There were at least 5. No joke.

description

By the end, I couldn't even be happy with the HEA. The H/h are only What?!? I'm pretty sure I mentioned that earlier, but come on !

description

I really didnt like the previous book in this series, and this one just cinched it. Too much drama, too much back and forth between the H/h being kind of together, with their weird secondary relationships, and an extremely disappointing ending. I cant read anymore. I. Just. Cant

**MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS--DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE READ THE BOOK**. I'm "Conflicted" over my opinion of this book. As a huge fan of the first two books in this series, I'm afraid this one was not a #1 hit for me. The good....I loved how Sophie Monroe included the other band members in this book and kept you updated on their stories. Her continuity was flawless. Loved seeing Granny in this book too! The bad....Derek had way too many sub plots going on. His father's release, his questioning his sexuality, Britt or Joss, his ex-wife, his sudden surprise of fatherhood, etc.......Many of these stories weren't necessary. I also had a huge issue with his need to confess a very private sexual encounter with everyone. Why did his band mates need to know this? And....why was Derek friend's with Piper's loony ex-boyfriend Cole? This was absolutely unnecessary and irrelevant to the storyline. I'm assuming that Sophie Monroe will release another book following Kevin's story. This may be the opportunity to dive into these other plot lines from Derek's story a bit more. Not a bad book, just not my favorite from this series.

Derek and Joss were a match made in HELL. They knew this but tried to keep it on the Lighter side. Three problems with that; First is Derek and Joss have a real connection that goes way back; Second is Joss is Blake's little sister; Third is they are a lot alike and that spells disaster.

Derek and Joss take the plunge and try to keep the feelings out of it but that does not happen. They try to move on from each other and it proves to be very difficult. Derek has a lot of secrets and a lot of them come out in this story. You see way Derek is so shut off and guarded and way he does not do relationships.

Story was good. Joss is refreshing with her honesty. Brittney you feel bad for and hope her character gets a better ending down the road. Derek is just a sad character and even though this story gives him a happier ending I still feel sad for the character. There is a little cliffhanger but nothing to bad at the end of this one.

Another fabulous Battlescars installment!
Oh my gosh... Poor Derek! He has been put through the ringer! Through it all Joss, Blakes baby sister has been his rock. She is young and inexperienced at life, but Derek has always been there. It takes a while and both have to explore other avenues, but they both finally realize that they can be each other's HEA! Next up is Kevin and Kennedy! I can't freaking wait!

I liked the first Battlescars book, the second not so much and this third was the worst of the three. Derek has everything but the kitchen sink going on in his past and present, it's a wonder the guy can drum at all. I felt like he may have had one too many book cliches happening to him.

Derek is the drummer for the band Battlescars and is an emotional wreck starting from what happened to his family when he was a teen, to what happened to him in Vegas. He doesn't know how to feel about what went down in Vegas and decides to let his best friend's little sister in on his secret.

Joss is the little sister to Blake, another member of Battlescars. She has known Derek since he was a teen and had a crush on him and Jake (the lead singer in the band) since she was little. Joss and Derek have some sort of friends with benefits thing going on whenever she is in town. She knows Derek's secret and life story and wants to help him out.

Joss and Derek clash, they only thing they can do right is in bed, so they decide on just going the friends route without the benefits. Then Derek meets Brittney, Joss meets Zach, Derek's past is holding another secret from him and Joss and Derek really love each other. Got all of that??

The story starts to get very convoluted quickly, the meeting and liking of others, and I can't forget the bomb thrown at 97% which pretty much gets glossed over as the book ends. Plus the haunting Vegas secret just kind of went away it seemed. I think the book could have been better, too much to follow at one point and I just didn't connect with any of the characters.

Sophie, Sophie, Sophie. You amaze me every single time I read a book of yours. I was truly greatful that I was given a chance to review this book. This is the BEST one of the Battlescars Series and that's saying something because who doesn't love Jake and Blake (yes, that rhymes lol) This is unlike any of the other two in the series. You don't see too much of Derek in the others which makes you really wonder about him. Let's just say the title of this book is definitely appropriate. He is so conflicted with so many things in his life that it's one big mess to deal with. Then, you have Joss which I love by the way who is so care free and doesn't seem to have a care in the world. Their connected is WOW and it'll ROCK YOUR SOCKS :) you get a lot of different POV in this story which is great because you get the different side of each one. The one thing that is so different than the others is that I was so focused the entire time because you just had to know what comes next. Sophie has you guessing the entire book and you will definitely has some drop you jaw moments and be like wow didn't see that coming. So job well done Sophie for being bad ass :)

I absolutely LOVE this series. Each book I read I say it is my new favorite (in this series) and that is true with this one as well. This was the first of the three novels that really had me emotionally tied to the characters - the other two were good reads but I wasn't fuming mad when they made stupid decisions...half way through this one, if I could have gotten my hands on Derek, or Joss for that matter, I would have strangled them both! ***SPOILER PAST THIS POINT*** I truly thought that Sophie was going to surprise us all and Derek would end up with Britt and Joss with Zach. (Don't get me wrong, both of the new characters seemed nice enough but just not the electric couple Joss and Derek are). I wanted to rip Kevin's heart out for cheating with Derek's wife and hug the snot out of Joss for "fixing" Derek's issues. I just loved this book - I can't say enough good about it.

For fans of the Battlescars series, you will not be disappointed. if you haven't read any of them, then what are u waiting for? I loved Jake in Battlescars and Blake in Afficted , but now Derek in Conflicted had my heart. He has dealt with so much from a young age and you just feel for him. So much happens including twist and turns that keep you sucked in until the end. it was great having Granny back for a few..lol..loved her as always, as well as the great relationship Derek has with the guys..not giving away spoilers, but wow! once you start you will not be disappointed ;)
Sophie, you rock!! Looking forward to more from you ;)

Love me some Battlescars!!! D finally had his story put out, and OMG...you gotta feel for the guy, he's been through some rough waters and somehow stays afloat!!!! Conflicted is the perfect title for his story too, because D has so much going on in his head, it's a wonder he doesn't explode...literally!! Biggest confliction...telling your best friend and band mate (Blake) that you're in love with his little sister, and knowing this could go in his favor or be a blow to his friendship with Blake...either way, he has to make that decision. At first, Joss seemed too young and immature to be in a committed relationship...but then again, look at D's history...so at the end of the day, they seem to be a match made in rock and roll heaven...and I'm rooting for them to have their HEA <3

Can I tell y’all how much I <3 this series? Sophie Monroe is an author that I’ve been lucky enough to watch grow over the past year. From the moment I ready Second Chance Romance, I’ve been a fan! Needless to say, every time a new book is on the horizon I’m on it like white on rice!

Conflicted is the the third book in the Battlescars Series. It is Derek’s story. Awe how I <3 a drummer and a guy with a few issues! Of course, Derek fits both of those items perfectly.

Conflicted is exactly what it says… Derek’s life is full of drama, sex, love, hate, concern, surprise, heartache, heart melting, tears, pain, and a roller coaster of ups & downs!

There is more to Derek and their is one individual that knows all of his secrets, Joss, which is fellow band member Blake’s younger sister. She has always been there and they have a connection that is on fire. Between their past, present, and possible future… I loved how Joss & Derek were bad for one another, but perfect at the same time. They will leave you all hot and bothered! I promise! When things get hot and then heads south, Joss bolts, but is that the end?

Fate kinda steps in when Brittany enters Derek’s life. Will he be able to get over Joss? Is she the perfect girl to tame this bad boy? Personally, I really liked Brittany, but from the beginning, I didn’t know if she would be enough. She is sweet, has a past, and takes Derek for what he is with no questions asked.

Battlescars III: Conflicted is exactly what the definition states, ”experiencing or marked by ambivalence or a conflict especially of emotions.” You will follow every emotionDerek faces, whether it’s with the band, Joss, Brittany, his father, or an unexpected “ex.” If you have read Battlescars I & II then I know you are waiting for book III. If you haven’t, you need to 1-click all 3 books because it’s a crazy train that you wanna ride! I promise!

They say that you are only given the life you are strong enough to live, and it tests you, but sometimes it just seems plain unfair. - Joss

Wow just freaking wow! This has officially become my new favorite in this series. I didn't think I would like anyone more than Jake, but I was wrong. I f'in LOVE Derek! This book is a rollercoaster of emotions! It literally has you second guessing who's going to end with who and if everyone is going to have a HEA!

There's just so much emotion in the story of Derek, that you don't really feel sorry for him. More like a proud parent when he finally figures things out and tries to make amends and go for it. The way he tries with his father is just ...... I don't have words. But it show how much he grows emotionally throughout the book.

Now as for his relationship with _____, it was one of those that you know they should be together but at the same they shouldn't. How they interact with each other is perfect but at the same time you can tell there's a lot of underlining in the relationship also.

As for Derek's HEA, I wanted to see a little more into their future. That was so unfair how Sophie just leaves it hanging right after they get together! But I also felt confident in their relationship. Now we have to wait till the next book to see what happens with our Battlescars men!

Life is a beautiful struggle. It’s like a recipe. There’s a dash of pain, regret, and uncertainty. A sprinkle of lust and love and usually some more pain thrown in for good measure, but if you stumble and fall pick yourself up, because it’s all worth it in the end..... - Derek

I love the men of Battlescars so when Derek's story came out in Conflicted I knew I had to read it. I wasn't disappointed. To read about what life threw at Derek and how that formed him as an adult broke my heart. It showed that what we go through in life forms us and develops our sense of self in ways that can be detrimental to ourselves.
So when Derek finds that someone who accepts him scars and all, although it takes him forever to realise it, grab on and hold into that forever, just like Derek finally did.
Battlescars is by far my favourite of the three books so far, but I look forward to reading more about the men of Battlescars!

I just LOVED Derek so much. He was awesome. In the other books you didn't hear much about him but boy am I glad he got his own book. I loved his and Joss' chemistry. They were perfect. I was a bit let down with this book. Loved the first 2 in the series but this one fell short. It had WAY too much going on. Kinda like the author was just thinking of shit to throw at Derek. Then with them leading other people on, which I thought really just threw the book off. I found my self skimming through a bunch to get to the end. Then it was over just like that after the big reveal and all was ok? No epilogue, nothing.

3.75 Stars for Derek but 4 solid stars for Battlescars as a series

“Conflicted. What does it really mean?” If you are looking for the answer to that question, no need to turn to the dictionary, just read Derek’s story; he is the poster boy for this word. This book tested my sanity. So much back and forthness in both the hero and heroine’s thought processes. To say these two characters don’t have their shit together is an understatement.

Derek is overwhelmed by his inner demons. So much so he is drowning in his own misery. He endured so much heartache and loss as a child he has this instilled mentality that he is not good enough for love or that people he loves will leave him. His bandmates have been his life preservers while music has truly been his savior

“If it weren’t for music, there’s a good chance that I’d be dead right now. It speaks when words fail.”

I understand his hesitancy to relationships due to his abandonment issues, but gosh did I want to slap him so many times especially if I heard him one more time “I’m just feeling conflicted. It’s nothing really.”

The first half of the book I could not connect with Derek, he spoke as if Joss was the immature one due to her young age of 20yrs old. Yet, I thought it was the other way around. Joss Potter (Blake’s sister we met in Afflicted) is gorgeous, sassy, doesn’t take shit, honest about her screw-ups and has cared deeply for Derek since teenage years.

She doesn’t make excuses for her immature or lack of common sense decisions

“I’d never had a one-night stand and curiosity, stubbornness, stupidity, and being twenty got the best of me.”

These two are so much alike both avoiding commitment, both in denial of the extent of their feelings for one another.

If you have a headache from the whirlwind of their “beneficial relationship” be ready to scratch your head and huff and puff. New love interests enter into the mix—Zach + Brit. Zach is another sexy talented rock star. Brit, I loved this girl. I connected more with her than any other character which is why the course of events Derek sets in motion ticked me off even more. This girl has experienced just as much if not more turmoil in her lifespan than Derek. In the start of their relationship I respected Derek’s decision to help her but at arms-length, not wanting to add sex in the mix in fear of f**king things up.

The way Derek speaks of Brit “We were two broken people who were quickly becoming each other’s other half” gave you hope that Derek was growing, warming up to the idea of accepting love. At first I was blindsided by Brit entrance into story, I was Derek + Joss fans, yet as these two develop a relationship I converted sides. I didn’t mind Joss’s continued presence in the story, she truly wanted Derek to be happy no matter if they were just friends. However, Derek, confused, whip flashing thought process Derek, whenever Joss was back in picture by golly if he didn’t flip from eyes for Brit to Joss.

My neck hurt so bad from the ping pong action that was Derek + Joss, their friends, wait their having sex in car, their friends, their confessing feelings, their friends, MAKE YOUR MIND UP!!!

As if it wasn’t hard enough to define their relationship, more twists and turns were thrown into the story—Kennedy + Skylar. This added drama/confliction did not seem necessary to me, especially since it was wrapped up in total of 8 pages.

Holy head spinning this book’s title is damn PERFECT not only does it describe the characters but it will have be how you as a reader feels while reading. Do not get me wrong Sophie Monroe’s writing is amazeballs she offers depth with hint of humor

“I agree with you that we’re a match made in Hell, but if I’m going there, you better be next to me.”

“I’m getting a little old for the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing and that word doesn’t seem strong enough. So, how about I just call you my forever?”

Ms. Monroe does not disappoint in the steam department as corny as Derek may sound referring to his junk as his “lady-killer” he shuts you up real quick with his use of it.

In the proceeding books Battlescars and Afflicted we had glimpses of Derek, while he was always in the background somewhere, I was excited to see what he had to offer in terms of a story. I will always be attracted to Jake but after reading Blake’s story I converted boyfriends. Ms. Monroe’s books seemed to get better as series continued on. However, I felt this book went backwards in some aspects. I enjoyed the presence of all the characters Jake, Aub, Piper, Blake, Kevin, & Granny (world’s funniest yet wisest blunt yet compassionate grandma). What I didn’t like was the pace was too rushed for my taste, revelations surfaced from left field then BAM forgotten moved on while my mind is still stuck in WTF mode. But the series as whole is still one you shouldn’t pass up!

The third book in the Battlescars series was by far my favorite so far. It was exactly what the title is all about Derek and what is going on in his head. He is indeed conflicted. Sophie kept the twists and turns coming at every turn in this book. I liked that it was unpredictable. At one point I didn't like where the story was heading. I almost felt like I was going to be left disappointed. It turned around for me. But I could of probably been ok with it if some characters were left out of the story. Never Granny Jean though. She was awesome as usual. I love that she has no filter. I've been waiting some time for Derek's story and was so happy to finally get to read it.

Derek drummer for Battlescars is a little lost everyone is quickly growing up. They are settling down and starting families of their own. Derek life takes a dramatic turn when he makes a mistake one that he regrets. Then Blake's sister comes for a visit and he trusts and cares for her. He thinks she is too good for him and is ok with having just sex between them. He feels broken because of his past and ends up doing what boys do best and screws it up. Just when you think this guy can't be conflicted anymore he's hit with something else. He tries to fill a void and ends up hurting those he cares for. Nothing is simple for Derek but having the support of his Battlescars family is what helps him get through anything that is thrown at him.

I felt bad for Derek during this book. He is just trying to figure things out and seems he just can't catch a break. He is really a caring and wonderful person. With everything he's been through he still tries to be a better person. I admired his courage. I absolutely wanted him to make the best decisions for himself. I wanted him to find what his other friends did. It was harder for him to open up about his past. It truly shaped him. He was lucky to have his Battlescars family help him when he needed it. Now one of my favorite things about these books is the humorous situations. I have to give another shout out to Granny Jean. She really is very wise or maybe just a wise ass!

This book was serious, humorous, and a bit shocking. all in a good way I assure you. A good plan for your next read is to read Derek's story. He is my favorite members of the band so far. Now I can't wait for more.

AMANDA'S 4 DRAMA FILLED STAR THOUGHTS!

I am a huge fan of this series! I really like this book, but just can't say I loved it as much as the first 2! There was so much going on that every time I felt like I might have it all figured out, another twist came out of nowhere! Conflicted is a fast faced, drama-filled, emotional and angsty roller coaster ride! Sophie definitely keeps you on your toes in this book!

Derek Scott is the drummer for Battlescars! He has a past full of tragedy and regret! Because of this he has a hard time letting anyone in. In his 26 years of life he has also made a few mistakes and the most recent one is making him very confused and lost.

"Fucking-A, maybe I'm gay! Hey, that rhymed."

After Blake and Piper's wedding, Derek found himself drunk and having a threesome… with a woman and a man! Enjoying himself was something he didn't expect and he has no idea what that means and it is driving him crazy! But then Joss, Blake's 20 year old baby sister, comes into town to visit and he feels like maybe he can get his life back on track. She calms him and understands him without him having to even try.

"I'm addicted to you, but more than that, you're special to me. You always will be."

Joss is young and has always had a connection with Derek. They have secrets between them that she will never share. She is also insanely attracted to him, and when they decide to have sex and not be emotionally attached… it is HOT, I mean off the charts chemistry!

"Fucking-A, you rocked my world sweetheart" I said honestly. Grinning, she smiled back. "You set mine on fire."

But when Joss goes back home things start to happen that separate them. Derek knows he needs to get his mind straight and learn to open up and forgive. And Joss needs to grow up and figure out who she is. They both start seeing other people and are happy, but is happy enough… or could their be more?

This book was one crazy emotional ride! I felt that it was a little too fast paced in some areas and way too many side stories that sometimes left me confused. But overall I loved Derek and Joss! Getting to hear more about the other characters I LOVE was also fantastic! Still an amazing series and I will be looking for more soon I hope… Kevin???

This book was great! If you love Rock Star books you will definitely want to give these a try, I literally devoured this book in one day. I would recommend that you start with the first two books in the series if you haven't read them. 4 stars.

Conflicted is Derek and Joss's story. Joss is Blake's little sister so she is off limits to the band members, Blake is extremely protective. Having been a little lost in the last book, after receiving some treatment Joss is finally getting her life together, but one thing she knows for sure is she is not ready for a committed relationship, she wants to live a little, sow some wild oats. Derek is conflicted about an incident that happened in Vegas that has him questioning everything. Derek also has a dark past that he is still grieving over and the only person that can seem to help him is Joss. Oh, and boy do Joss and Derek have a past that no one knows about! When they come together again, they fight their feelings for each other and can't seem to get on the same page. Will Joss and Derek ever admit their true feelings for each other and get their shot at a HEA? Or will obstacles keep getting in their way?

"I'm addicted to you, but more than that, you're special to me. You always will be."

Conflicted was sexy, agnsty, heart-wrenching, and even funny at times. I love how in each book we get a look at all the band memebers and their lives. My only complaint is Derek and Joss spent most of this book apart and I would love to read more about them together. I can't wait for the next book in this series which is Kevin's!

Ok so don't let my 3 star rating deter you from reading this series.. its an amazing series with kick ass characters and is extremely addictive. . But my the issues I had with the book are my personal pet peeves.. (for example: love triangles, sex with other ppl, and misguided plots).. Anyways, so i couldn't wait to read this book. I loved Derek in the first one and knew since he was such a wild one he was gonna be a glorified messed up individual. Which in most cases makes for the best hero's... well I guess I placed too many of my eggs in one basket cause halfway through, the eggs started dropping to the point were I was skimming pages just to make see how this very confusing and highly emotional book was gonna play out. I want to give examples and rant about all that I hated about this book but I just can't. I still love Derek and hes still messed up but he got the HEA I wanted him to get with the one that he deserved but the story just wasn't what, I guess, I expected. Still kudos to Ms. Monroe for leaving me wanting more and desperately waiting for the next installment of battlescars... please please please no more love triangles!!! I'm begging!!!
