I received this book in a giveaway. I loved how it was beautifully autographed. I had a very hard time trying to put this book down because I had to find out what would happen next. Kind of creepy that they were able to see everything thru the cell phone.Kate is all excited to attend a gala at her old college friend's yacht. It ends up turning into a nightmare. Her husband Tom doesn't believe her when she says she wants to leave him for her old college friend. Tom will stop at nothing to get to the truth. What a surprise ending! This book had a lot of twists and turns. Thanks again for my copy of the book.

A past mistake causes life threatening consequences in Powerless Consent by Janet Nash. Kate Ballard decides to attend a gala of an old friend with her husband. The night is going very well until Kate approaches her husband to tell him that she cannot be with him anymore. Tom, Kate’s husband is caught off guard. The Ballard’s have a wonderful relationship, which causes Tom to disagree with his wife and not accept her statement. Tom soon realizes that there is hope when an individual offers to help him uncover the mystery behind his wife’s decision.

Rick Powell is a business man with an obsession. Rick has carried a torch for Kate Ballard for years and is determined to get what he wants. Rick has a plan and the gala is the perfect place to put it into action. Rick believes he has covered all of his bases but he forgot about his jilted assistant. When Rick’s secrets are revealed he will have no choice but to suffer the consequences.

Powerless Consent is about not being satisfied with what you have. The author does a wonderful job keeping readers in suspense with entertaining twists and turns. The characters were well-developed and their behaviors consistent throughout the storyline. I did not know whether to be scared of or frustrated with Rick Powell because the character takes obsession to another level. This was an interesting book that kept my attention to the end. I recommend Powerless Consent to others.

I won a copy of "Powerless Consent" by Janet Nash through the Goodreads Giveaway Contest. This novel is the winner of the 2012 Golden Heart Finalist. I really enjoyed this contemporary romance novel with elements of murder mystery and a strong spiritual base.

Kate Ballard was a prisoner on a luxury yacht. She never should have opened that invitation...

Kate and her husband Tom had received an invitation, to a Black Tie Gala to honor Rick Powell of Powell Enterprises, a Fortune 500 Company to be held on the E-Tak Yacht in Carmel, California. Rick was an old friend of Kate's, and had been a roommate of Tom's in University.

But at the Gala, things soon took a turn for the bad...and Tom, a Vet had been sent away off the Yacht on a false call, which left Kate on her own. And then out of left field, Rick tells Kate, he has always been in love with her, and to leave Tom and stay with Rick.

Kate had no choice...or he would kill one of her family members. No negotiating, no options and no time. She had to stay with Rick to save her family. But how was she going to get out of this mess?

This was a contemporary romance novel with strong characters. The short chapter format briskly moves the story along.

Reading this type of book just makes your heart feel light and your soul feel complete.

A story of faith that shows how if you stay true to your values you can overcome what seem like insurmountable obstacles. While listed as an inspirational book this is an action story where the evil character seems to hold all the cards. He makes one mistake in not figuring on what the impact of rejection does and a rediscovered faith in God.

Rick Powel has become obsessed with Kate Ballard and forces her to reject her husband Tom. Rick has the technology and wealth to blackmail Kate into submission. Rick has not counted on the impact his actions have on his jilted assistant, Callie Hunter. Finding her faith in God, Callie turns the tables on Rick to assist Tom in recovering his wife.

With the current revelations about big brother correcting cell phone information this story really has a troubling story line if the technology is possible. While this book might not appeal to those who don’t believe in stories approximating the real world in language and situations it is a book about faith that doesn’t preach to the reader and lets them enjoy a good story.

Inspirational romantic suspense... I wasn't sure what to expect. Was this a religious book? But then how could it be a romantic suspense too? It was even more confusing when it opens with a fifty-something married couple. Who writes romantic novels with characters in their 50s? Janet Nash does and it is fun to read!

Once I dove in, I couldn't stop. The pacing of the suspense was perfect. The digital technology plot was scary... like really scary when you stop and think about what people can find out about you. I loved the characters... those under 50 AND those over 50! And the "inspirational" aspect... it was what most of us think (like praying when things get tough) but don't actually say out loud and I found that refreshing.

I can't wait for her next book!

Kate thought the idea of being on a luxury yacht and visiting an old friend, would be memorable. Instead she finds, that from a cell phone she had won, he had been invading her life. Taking no for an answer, he set in motion, lies would her husband believe them. Would Tom be brought into this, trying to save Kate and their marriage. Different plot, that catches you off guard, and how winning a simple thing, change a life. Thrilling to the end.

Kate Ballard and her loving husband of many years are invited to a black tie affair to honor Kate's friend who she has known since before college. Rick Powell is the founder & owner of Powell Enterprises and is successful and wealthy beyond belief. Once Kate & Tom have boarded to E-Tak yacht for the gala affair, Rick has learned that one of his Arabian horses needs medical attention and he asks Tom, being a veterinarian, to please go check on his horse. Tom, being the giving & caring person he is, does not hesitate to help and leaves Kate behind to enjoy the festivities until his return. But things go sour quickly for Kate when Rick gives her a personal tour of his yacht and once alone tells Kate that he loves her and always has and to tell her husband that she loves and has always loved Rick. If she refuses, Rick already has snipers in place to kill her eldest son and his family. Knowing Kate has no choice but protect her family at any cost, she makes the gut-retching decision to tell her sweet husband to leave. As Tom takes his leave, he first gives Rick a punch in his stomach and still in disbelief this is really happening, he walks away. Now Rick takes Kate to a bedroom, disguised exactly like her room at home, and he locks her in. Rick's assistant of ten years, Callie Hunter, on again, off again lover of Rick's, is surprised to see Kate on the ship the following morning. Although Callie hears Kate tell her she loves Rick and is staying with him now and forever, Callie is not buying into this story as Kate`s body language is telling her differently. So Callie decides to take it upon herself to see what she can dig up and then speak with Tom. Between Tom & Callie, will they be able to find the truth of what lies behind this ruse of Rick`s. Also, can they stay off the grid so as to keep Tom & Kate`s family free of harm, as well as themselves and to save Kate.

Author, Janet Nash had me right a page 1 and from there I did not put the book down until I read the last page! Fabulous mystery that just gets better and better with each page.

First let me say, I enjoy a well written inspirational story. I also enjoy a good little breath-taking mystery. More than anything I love clean romance. So maybe, just maybe, I have found my author of choice!

That being said, I really enjoyed this read by Nash. The title was more representative of the story at hand than most.

The characters are strong and either trying to walk the Christian walk, learning to walk the Christian walk, or just plain oblivious of such a thing. The one lesson the four main protagonists learn is to appreciate the moment they are living and not to take the simple things in life for granted. Kate and Tom share a love that people could envy, but it came from years of hard work and dedication. Callie grew from a shallow woman who thought success was the hilight of life to a woman redefining her life so that it mattered...for the right reasons. Jack Oakes grew from being buried in his work to finding there was more to life to look forward to....and the fifth main character, was also the antagonist, and well, would there be any hope for him?

The storyline was bizarre, but believable in today's world of technology. It was well plotted and flowed smoothly. It was easy reading and a very enjoyable book. Once I began reading, I was hooked, line and sinker! Which cost me a night of sleep, but since I suffer from insomnia anyway....it fit right in with my unscheduled schedule.

Kate Ballard has a devastating choice to make; leave her family and follow a deranged psychopath, or he will have them all killed. Can her faith sustain her through all the twists and turns of this exciting thriller? Love, betrayal, secret cell phone surveillance, it’s all found in Powerless Consent by Janet Nash.

I had a ups and downs reading this novel. I didn't like a style of author: characters are not well developed - I couldn't connect with them as I usually do ,and I didn't like a plot too much: it was confusing in some parts and some of the questions are still hanging in the air. It is an average novel but very good for debut :)

I loved this book by debut author, Jan Nash. The villain was chilling and cunning. The "victim" never acted like a victim, she worked on trying to get herself out of the situation. And, the heroes were flawed but heroic. I can't wait to read her new book that just came out.
