What a tale. Tissues please.
As Though You Were Mine will have you all twisted up in knots. I am glad I scooped it up to read.
You can’t help but fall in love with the MC. She is real and goes through so much heartache, J. Marie Rundquist certainly put her through her paces.
Julie did the one selfless thing she could do for her family that was supposed to last a lifetime. Now that lifetime had gone after a horrendous tragedy. Julie finds herself scared and desperate and, in a situation, where she never thought she would be, but two adorable little ones now depend on her for everything.
Will her life once again be turned upside down when another enters her life? To find out make sure you get on board and read it today!
There is fear, passion, hope, love, wonder and forgiveness and way much more in this heartfelt tale. I was so drawn into the story that I kept turning the page to get to see what was happening. I could not put it down.
This is one book that should be on everyone’s TBR list at the very top.

As Though They Were Mine, J. Marie Rundquist: a review

I had the please of reading this ARC for J. Marie Rundquist and so happy I was given the opportunity to do so.
Julie didn’t think she wanted marriage or children, but when her brother and his wife suddenly die she discovers she’s named in their will as their children’s guardian. Puzzled as to why they named her instead of their sister who seems much more equipped, Julie feels compelled to take on the challenge. Together with the twins, Lucy and Mikey, Julie is confronted by not only grief but a whole set of growing pains and adjustments.
Rundquist’s novel reminded me that even though life throws us curve balls, everything turns out just the way it’s supposed to. This heartwarming story is a fast-paced read that is both satisfying and appropriately funny in the way that levity carries us through the most difficult times.

Deep sigh. I am definitely going to have a book hangover after this one! I don’t even know where to start. The book drew me in quickly with the premise that Julie’s brother and sister-in-law died in a car accident. While that was unexpected, what was even more unexpected is that Julie was named as guardian of their twin 4-year-old children, Lucy and Mikey. She didn’t want children, which is one reason she willingly donated her eggs so her brother could have the kids they could not produce on their own. Despite biology, she was not a mother…not their mother. Until now.

Julie may be scared but does not back down from the challenge. These kids need her. Lucy is busy and talkative, and passionate, much like Julie. And she has meltdowns and tantrums when things go differently than she is used to. Meanwhile, Mikey has not spoken since the accident and has night terrors. I was in with Julie feeling her desperation for caring for two challenging young children while trying to keep a job, not knowing how to cook, and having no experience with raising children, let alone twins you have only met once before.

Death and the fallout from the things you discover after can cause many changes in relationships. Living in MN, Land of 10,000 lakes, many of us know about lake turnover. It happens in spring and fall when the temperatures change, and the water densities cause the top and bottom of the lake to mix and change places. It can cause the water to look dirtier as the mucky organic matter from the bottom of the lake gets churned up. It can sometimes make the lake smell. So, too, does Julie’s life experience a turnover. Distant relationships are now being brought up into the mix. There are many layers of complexity in the various relationships with her sister, her parents, her deceased brother, and even the boyfriend with whom she broke things off right before the car crash.

Enter Grant. Grant is her deceased sister-in-law, Elaine’s brother. And the sperm donor. They have never met, and he, too, has complicated familial relationships to work through. But he wants to help – or feels obligated to help – he is their bio-dad. Are his intentions that simple and pure?

If you like stories about relationships and those with a lot of dialogue, like I do, you will also dive into this book and want to stay there as I did. I read over half of the book on the first day, and if not for other things I needed to do yesterday, I would have finished it in two days. I had a very difficult time putting it down. On the one hand, Julie is inexperienced and is lacking direction in her life. We are inside her head and heart and witness her thoughts and feelings as they evolve and develop throughout the story. It was very satisfying!

One of my favorite things about this book was the playing. Outside of an occasional time or two when the kids were given the laptop to play games, all their play was like the play of when I was growing up with my sister. The children's creativity and the fun traditions Julie and Grant developed were heartwarming and reminded me of so many memories of my littles from that stage of my life. The innocence. The wonder. Creativity and JOY. Love, love, loved it.

Being in MN, I also enjoyed the local references and details about our rich culture.

What a wonderful and heartwarming read.

If you’re feeling emotionally challenged or weepy in any way don’t read this book ! You have been warned ! I cried buckets and I thought I could feel my heart tear into pieces but it’s a beautiful read , a bit of an oxymoron I know but it is what it is ….

Julie is single and care free , she never wanted kids of her own and she never hesitated to donate some of her eggs to her sister in law and brother so that they could conceive via in vitro and have their little family but life takes a sudden and tragic turn when they’re killed in an accident 🥲Julie becomes an instant mom to 2 kids and being Aunty is alot different to being mommy !

The twins , Mikey and Lucy are 4 and that’s not an easy age as it and each have their own issues to cope with over and above the grief and trauma of loosing their parents it’s an overwhelming situation for all involved and my heart just aches for them ….

Grant , their uncle , also a donor offers to help Julie in tearing the kids and I’m grateful to him but like Julie I have my suspicions and I think it’s just because we’re human really , right ?!

Julie didn’t have an easy time either I mean she’s grieving , she’s an instant parent she has people questioning her and life altering decisions made on her behalf and I’m sure she herself had doubts at a stage . sometimes it felt like she was a sinking ship in the ocean and I just wanted to scream at people to back up a little ., cut her done slack and help and encourage instead …..

A read that felt so very real , raw and emotional ! You can identify with the characters on so many levels 🤗

As Though You Were Mine by J. Marie Rundquist

As Though You Were Mine is a wonderfully written Women’s Fiction that will take you on quite the emotional journey. I dove into this book with the mindset that it was going to be emotional so I had kleenexes right beside me and boy am I glad I did. This is a fairly new author to me and I’m definitely interested in what else she has written. Her style of writing and attention to detail along with developed characters make for a wonderful story. This story is packed with drama, family drama, love, loss and grief plus so much more. Julie does a selfless thing and donates her eggs to her sister in law and brother who is having issues with infertility. But when tragedy strikes she finds herself with custody of four year old twins. She’s struggling trying to figure out how to raise these two kids and help them with their grief but shes grieving as well. Throw in a curve ball or two and we find our heart being pulled in several different directions. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens. Definitely have tissues and be prepared to laugh cry and go on quite the emotional rollercoaster ride. I’m looking forward to reading more from this Author.

As Though You Were Mine is a heartwarming story that centers around the character of Julie who has just learned that her brother and sister-in-law have both passed away in a car accident. She is surprised to learn that she was named as guardian of their four-year-old twins, Lucy, and Mikey. Julie has vowed to remain single and therefore feels ill equipped and unprepared to raise children. Julie is determined to make the best of the situation and feels a sense of obligation to the children not just because they are her niece and nephew but because she is, in a sense, their mom. When Julie learned that her brother and sister-in-law were unable to have children of their own, she donated her eggs to them. Biologically speaking, she is, in a sense, their mom.

Enter Grant, who is her deceased sister-in-law’s brother and who was the sperm donor. He also feels a sense of obligation towards Lucy and Mikey as their biological father. Julie and Grant enter into a partnership to raise the children as their own. A situation that proves to be complicated for numerous reasons. Lucy and Mikey are suffering from the loss of their parents, and it is affecting their behavior. Mikey has night terrors and has not spoken since the accident. Lucy acts out and has temper tantrums. Julie’s family feels that she is not the best person to raise her niece and nephew and feel that her sister would be a better fit. Her relationship with her family is a bit strained and this risks creating more tension within the family. And then there’s Grant, who Julie feels a connection to and finds herself attracted to. Will Julie’s family stand by her decision to raise her niece and nephew? Is there any chance of a relationship between Julie and Grant?

This book drew me in from the first pages when Julie’s estranged brother and his wife passed away in a car accident. The storyline was heart wrenching, and the characters were lovable and relatable. Julie stayed true to herself and stood by her choices. She was smart, strong, determined, loving, and kind. The emotions that Julie experienced were real, raw, and overwhelming. She loved her brother and always hoped that somehow, they could mend the rift that had come between them and have a close sibling relationship. That chance was ripped away from her when he passed away. The strained relationship she had with her parents and sister became even more strained when they told her that her sister would be the better choice as guardian to her niece and nephew. My heart broke for poor Julie because she really had little to no support from those around her. Nobody felt confident in her ability to raise children. However, she was determined to raise her niece and nephew to the best of her ability and provide them with a loving and supportive home environment. When Grant enters the picture Julie finds someone who loves her, supports her, and is there for her and the children. As Grant and Julie navigate the struggles of sudden parenthood, they find support in each other as well as unexpected romance. This book was an emotional rollercoaster ride full of tragedy, grief, loss, sadness, anger, betrayal, family dynamics, hope, romance, love, and forgiveness. I highly recommend this book!

This book gave me all of the feels possible. From the loss at the very start of the story to the undertaking of two small children, Julie is really put through the wringer in this new story by J. Marie Rundquist! I laughed, I cried, I was experiencing all of it alongside Julie. I was also somewhat able to relate to this story - I, too, lost my brother in a car accident. Thankfully no children were involved, etc, but that part hit me hard. I loved that Julie was able to finally have a relationship with the children of her brother in this new and special way. If you want an emotional read, pick this one up immediately!

Wow this book was such an emotional read. It was so hard reading all the struggles and fights that Julie had to go through but her strength was amazing.
When Julie donated her eggs to allow her brother and sister in law to become parents she only ever imagine she would be an aunty and she was happy with that. She never really wanted her own kids so helping them seemed the perfect idea.
That is until a accident took them away and left Julie as legal guardian to four year old twins.
From that moment on Julie's life is turned upside down and inside out. As well as dealing with her own grief she now has to learn how to take care of and help 2 little people who struggle just as much from the loss of their parents.
Julie struggles to manage everything, the kids, the grief, her job with an inflexible boss everything is one struggle after another and more than once Julie wonders if she is good enough and whether her brother and sister made the right choice in selecting her to care for their children.
When the children' uncle Grant turns up offering to help Julie isn't as happy as she thought she would be. Does he have another reason for wanting to be around? Does he think he is going to take those kids away from her?
It's the Julie realises that she has to fight for those babies harder than anything she has ever fought for in her life. Even when everyone including her parents doubt her abilities to raise these kids she is determined to prove them all wrong.

I loved Julie's growth through this story and as she learns to think like a parent you see her fight appear when it comes to being the best parent she can be for those children no matter what anyone else's opinion is.

An emotional and engaging read which kept me captivated throughout. When Julie Mercer donated her eggs in order to help her brother and sister-in-law conceive via in-vitro fertilization, she never thought that just a few years later she would be taking full responsibility for those children, following the death of their parents in a car crash. Julie suddenly has to make room for her four year old twin niece and nephew, not only in her small apartment but in her life. Having decided that she never wanted children she doubts her ability to bring up Lucy and Mikey as her own. As well as her own grief and trauma she has to deal with the twins, which causes Lucy to throw intense tantrums and Mikey to stop talking. Then to complicate things further, the twins’ uncle, and also their biological father Grant turns up on her doorstep saying that he wants to help, but Julie worries that he may want to fight her for custody.
Julie also has to deal with an inflexible and unsympathetic boss which puts her job on the line, and then on top of all these new life changes and challenges her family start questioning her role as guardian. Julie herself then needs to determine if the twins parents made the best decision making her their guardian. This is a heartwarming and at times heartbreaking story, which took me on an emotional rollercoaster whilst I was reading it. I really felt engaged with the likeable and relatable Julie and the extremely difficult position she found herself in. The descriptive narrative brought both the characters and setting to life making me feel immersed in the story. I recommend having a box of tissues handy when you pick up this must read page turner!

When Julie receives the news that her brother and his wife have passed away, her life is forever changed when she is told she has been named as guardian of his 4-year-old twins. Julie never saw herself in the maternal role. However, since she was the one who donated her eggs so her brother and his wife could have children, she can see why she was named guardian (even though she does not feel qualified...or ready).

Trying to take care of two children that have just lost their parents presents its own challenges. Add on the pressure of a family that is questioning her appointment, Julie wondering if she was the right choice herself, a boss that is not making life easier, and an ex that can't seem to get the "ex" part (although Julie is not helping keep him away). But, when Grant (the sperm donor of the twins) shows up due to a sense of obligation, Julie's life seems to get even more difficult.

This is a story that focuses on the relationships in our lives...whether familial, friendly, or romantic. There are strained relationships that must be fostered and mended, romantic relationships that need to be defined, and new relationships to be explored and built. I laughed and cried while reading this book. Julie is an amazing character that is really going through it....helping those around her heal while she is trying to heal herself. The author, through the use of detail and wonderful storytelling, brought these characters to life on the page and I felt like was in the room with them. A greatly written book that I enjoyed reading (with a box of tissues by my side).

This is a beautiful story. Julie becomes the guardian of her 4-year old niece and nephew after her brother and his wife’s passing. She donated her eggs so they could have children which makes this even more beautiful. First, I loved the writing. This is a hard situation that you could feel in the writing. Death of a loved one, especially an estranged loved one, is hard. You can feel the pain, the loss and all the emotions from the family left behind. Your heartbreaks for the kids. Second, you rejoice as Julie and the kids begin to work out and adjust to their new living situation. This also brings the extended family back together. It’s kind of nice to see this happen. I felt tears well up as Julie called the wife’s family and they didn’t really show interest in seeing the grandchildren any more. Raising one of mine makes me wonder why, other than grief this is. We find out later that their son helped create the children also. Third, watching Julie and Grant develop was an absolute treat. That felt natural. Yes, it takes time. I do have to say it’s so much better than seeing her with the other. It also allows a piece of mama’s family to be there. This is one of the best pieces of family fiction that I have read this year and if I were allowed to give it more than 5 stars I would. Bravo!

Julie never wanted to be a mom but she technically became a biological mom when she donated her eggs to her brother and his wife. Sadly, Brian and Esther were killed in a car accident when their twins, Lucy and Mikey, were just four years old. Brian and Esther left guardianship of these precious souls to Aunt Julie.

Julie's whole family questions her ability to raise these children from day 1. They offer unsolicited advice and some even go so far as to flat out tell her she has no business doing this. A knock on her door could change everything for this new little family.

Brian and Esther also used a sperm donor to create these children. Grant is the knock at the door and Julie can't be sure of his immediate motives. Is he her to fight her for custody or is he sincere in what he says about "doing his part" with Lucy and Mikey?

I found this book a bit difficult to get into. As the story went on, it did pick up a bit but by then I was losing so much of the real story that it fell kinda flat for me. I was hoping for so much more based on the synopsis. For a good bit, it just felt like the same thing was being repeated, especially in regards to the behavior of the kids. I understand that a buildup had to occur, but this felt a little dragged out. I did appreciate the overall story, I just wish it would have picked up faster.

Have you ever let other people question you and your lifestyle to the point that you began to doubt or question yourself? This is what happens to our main character, Julie, when she becomes guardian to her niece and nephew after her brother and sister-in-law pass away from a car wreck. People question if Julie, who also happens to be the biological egg donor to the 4-year-old twins, is the right choice to raise them, especially since she had decided that she never wanted kids of her own. Her own upsetting failures with the twins along with her family's talk make her wonder what her brother and his wife were thinking of picking her as guardian, so, of course, when Grant the sperm donor shows up to supposedly help with the twins, Julie is more than cautious. In the matter of days, her life, her job, and, in truth, a bit of her sanity all seem to be thrown in the air and she doesn't know if she will ever be able to catch them all.

This is an emotional ride, to say the least! J. Marie Rundquist has written such an amazing book that will have you spiraling through more emotions than you even knew you had. Between her realistic characters and honest reactions to everyday life spinning out of control, she has impressively woven a book that should be on everyone's to-read list.

As Though You Were Mine
By: J. Marie Rundquist

This was such a fantastic and emotional story. I found myself crying (actually sobbing) at several parts of this. Yet, I never wanted to stop reading this story. I wanted to see how it ended. I wanted to follow the emotional arc of the main character Julie, even if I was so emotionally invested in it. Julie is a fantastic main character and she is one that I found myself relating to and rooting for. The emotional layers in this between gaining custody of her niece and nephew, who are actually her flesh and blood, and processing the loss of her brother and sister in law it just all seems like it is too much. Then Grant enters the picture. The emotional complexity of him entering just really kept me reading at such an intense pace. I wanted to know what was going to happen in Julie’s life, if she was going to keep her job, if Grant was there for good reasons, if she was going to learn to love raising the kids, if everyone was going to get a happy ending. I have so much more I want to say, but won’t for fear of spoilers. I will say that this book is a must read and that these characters are so very well written. I definitely recommend reading this book! But make sure to have tissues handy!

Wow, what a story....captured me right from the beginning. Gutted feelings, sadness at parts, drama, anger, love, healing and the sense of family and nurturing. I highly recommend this book...it takes you on a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows.

Julie Mercer is trying to pick up the pieces after her brother and sister in law pass away due to an accident and is now the guardian of four year old twins, Mikey and Lucy. Julie never really wanted to be a mother, but life threw her a wrench and now she is figuring everything out between balancing her job and the twins, questioning herself can she do this. Lucy throwing tantrums if things are not done "right" in her eyes and Mikey not talking at all...the trauma that these children endured has been difficult. When Grant, who is Julie's sister in laws brother, makes an unexpected visit, Julie is not sure if there is more why he suddenly shows up.

As Julie and Grant navigate the death of her brother and his sister, they find that being there for Mikey and Lucy and for each other can be something special.

This is a great story and I highly recommend this read.

As Though You Were Mine by J. Marrie Rundquist is a heartachingly good story- but in saying that, I highly recommend that you have plenty of tissues on hand before diving in- trust me, you are going to need them! Ms. Rundquist threw me into an emotional pinball machine, bouncing my emotions all over the place like crazy.
This is a superb women’s fiction story packed full of emotion, love, loss, grief, unexpected responsibility, challenges, doubts, heartache, family, twists, drama, heartwarming developments, and hope,
Julie Mercer never expected that donating her eggs so that her brother and his wife could start their family would change her life in a such an unexpected way only four short years later. A tragic accident leaves Julie with the responsibility of raising four-year-old twins, something she feels completely unprepared for. Through self-doubt, an adjustment period, challenges, heartache, angst, and a few curveballs we follow along for all the highs and lows…. and can’t help but connect and invest in everything along the way.
This is my first read from Ms. Rundquist, but it definitely won’t be my last.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, J. Marie Rundquist!

This one was a thought provoking novel about a woman, Julie Mercer, with no desire to have kids who suddenly gets custody of her brother’s 4 year old twins after their parents are killed in a car accident.

As if that isn’t drama enough, there are several interesting parts to this. Julie wasn’t close to her brother’s family. Julie donated eggs for her brother and sister-in-law to conceive. The twins’ uncle travels across country to help Julie. He also happens to be the individual who donated the sperm for the twins.

Family dynamics play other important parts in this drama. Julie has some serious backstory with her parents that are divorced. Julie’s brother leaves a Will giving almost everything to his church. Julie’s sister feels like she is more financially stable to raise the twins.

I thought the book did a great job of tying in all of these elements to write a compelling story.

I also thought how the twins adapt after the loss of their parents was a well done plot point.

Family, relationships at all levels, and adapting in the face of major change makes this a great one for discussion.

This one put me through an emotional wringer!

Julie is a single woman; she never intended to have her own children, but she did donate her eggs to her brother and his wife.

When her brother and his wife die in a car accident, Julie is shocked that they have named her as the caretaker of their twins. Totally unprepared to become an instant parent, especially to four-year-olds who have suffered such trauma, Julie must navigate this challenge - the kids need her to.

The story is layered and complex. Julie must now face issues she has had with her family and past. She is also surprised when Grant, the sperm donor, or bio-dad, enters the picture asking to help raise the twins. Julie must make some weighty and wise decisions, decisions that could affect these children’s futures.

This is truly a moving story. You’ll feel the fear, the pain, the grief, but also the joy and hope. Watching Julie and Grant play with the kids and start new traditions with them truly warmed my heart.

AS THOUGH YOU WERE MINE grips you from the first line with the catastrophic event that will change the protagonist's life in some yet unclear ways. By the time I finished the book, Julie was my bestie.
Rundquist gives us a real person in a character the reader will want to hang out with. I love the way she embraces her ordinary life and never pretends to want to be anything else to please others. Julie is genuine, caring and insightful. The story shows the inner workings of a family, not unlike ours with its warts and all, but at its core they care for each other when it counts.

I couldn't help but root for Julie to find the love she deserves; be the best mother she can be and live her life on her own terms. This is a story about giving oneself grace and space to grow when life throws you unexpected curve balls in the bodies of two little humans.
Rundquist gives us a tale of hope, growth, love and forgiveness. I kept turning the page to get to a satisfying ending. A heartwarming tale!

Julie is happy with her life. She is single, has no kids, and no real wish to change anything. However, life has other plans for Julie, when she unexpectedly becomes the guardian of her twin niece and nephew after her brother and sister-in-law die unexpectedly. What Julie could never have predicted is how much this would change her life. She goes from single with minimal responsibilities to having to take care of two four year olds who are grieving and struggling to understand the changes to their lives. Mikey has stopped talking, something she is told is new, while Lucy has started throwing temper tantrums whenever things aren’t quite the way that she expects them to be or when she just can’t handle her emotions. While learning to navigate grief, family, and suddenly becoming a parent, one more curve ball comes into Julies life in the form of the children’s uncle, Grant.

This story is, at times, heart breaking and yet heartwarming. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a happily ever after, even if it there are a few wrong turns in the middle.

As Though You Were Mine by J. Marie Rundquist. This is one of my favorite books I've read this year. Its soooo good, emotional but good. Its the story of Julie who doesn't want kids ever and is completely happy with her life the way it is. When her brother and his wife discover they are infertile Julie decides to donate her eggs to her sister in law. When her brother and his wife are killed in a car accident and the twins are 4 years old she is given sole custody. Julies doesn't know how to be an aunt and especially doesn't know how to be a mom. As time goes on she is learning and growing closer to the twins, who both miss their mom and dad. Trying to work, take care of the kids and live a social life is a lot but Julie is actually doing it. Then Grant enters the picture. Grant is Julie's sister in law's brother and the biological father of the twins. He decides he wants custody so Julie is in for a custody battle on top of everything else. This is a moving, emotional read that will keep you flipping the pages late in the night.

As Though You Were Mine is a novel by J. Marie Rundquist. This story follows Julie Mercer, a woman who has donated her eggs to her brother and sister-in-law so that they may have a family. After the couple dies in a car crash, Julie is named guardian of the 4-year-old twins. This was such a wonderful story. Following Julie, you really get to experience her plight. Julie doesn’t want to be a mother but she tries her best to provide a home for her niece and nephew. I really sympathize with Julie mourning the loss of her brother while trying to raise his children and deal with the trauma of losing their parents. When Grant enters the picture, we see them both do all that they can to give the twins a good home. I loved that Julie finally had someone in her corner. They both could relate to each other. This is such a great and complex story.

As Though You Were Mine touches every emotion on the spectrum. Love, loss, joy, heartache, turmoil, and so much more.
Julie is figuring out how to grieve the loss of her brother while also learning how to parent his now orphaned children. Except, they're her biological children, so this should be an easy transition due to biology and all. Never mind that the family dynamics Julie is accustomed to aren't anything even resembling normal.
As though there wasn't enough to deal with; enter Grant! He's the kids' uncle, and their biological father, or maybe he's a Sperm Whale! Julie and Grant have to find a way to best care for the children who have lost everything while trying to figure out their own turmoiled lives.
As Though You Were Mine is deep, complex, and emotional. It is also a fantastic read that will have you up all hours of night reading. Go ahead and pick it up now!

As Though You Were mine simply said was an amazingly well written story that played on so many of my emotions. This story is about giving, grief, love, drama, and family. Julie helped her brother and her sister-in-law by donating her eggs so they could have children, and four years later she must be the parent as the twin’s parents were both lost in a car accident. Julie is struggling, her family is not to sure that raising the kids is the right job for her, and then Grant enters, who is the twin uncle and bio father. They are both grieving and wanting the best for the twins, but through it they build something with each other.
J. Marie Rundquist truly hit it home with this book. All the emotions that went into this book truly will make you cry, make you smile, and make your heart go up and down. I truly recommend this book and say try to have some tissues ready!!!

I was fortunate enough to read an early copy of AS THOUGH YOU WERE MINE, a heartfelt story about estranged siblings, overcoming self-doubt, and relearning family in the midst of a crisis.

The premise intrigued me: What if you had never wanted to be a mother … and in the wake of tragedy, discovered you were the legal guardian of orphaned 4-year-old twins you barely know?

I adored all the characters: Julie whose life upends overnight; fiery little Lucy and her empathetic brother Mikey; and their uncle, known only as the sperm donor, who turns up on their doorstep unannounced and broke.

Add a cast of unexpected secondary characters, and this is an uplifting page-turner … with a surprising twist.

A terrific read!

What a truly amazing book!
I felt for Julie as she never wanted kids and then felt underprepared and unequipped to care for her brother’s children. I found myself cheering for her during the good times and rooting her on during the rough spots.
The inter workings of most families are messy and hard, and Julie’s is all of that. Grief is hard and 4-years-olds can be a struggle, but to grieve while caring for grieving 4-year-olds is a whole different level of difficulty.
Cue in Grant, the brother of Julie’s deceased sister-in-law, who shoes up and creates his own place in Julie and the kids’ lives. Also grieving, also family, also having a stake in the children’s lives.

This book is a real page turner as you continue cheering on Julie and wanting to see her succeed as a new parent.

I enjoyed reading this heartfelt story about becoming a parent unexpectedly and what happens after. Julie is a person who never wanted children but when tragedy strikes she finds herself a parent. This is a well written story that took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I enjoyed the author’s writing style as well as their attention to details that made me feel as if I was part of the story. The characters are connectable, full of heart and made the story easy to read. A fast paced, engaging story where the characters pop off the pages and into your heart. I enjoyed watching the growth of the characters and the plot which added to the story. This is a story you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

I recommend that you pick up this book and also a box of tissues. This book is so emotionally-wrenching (in a good way) that you will feel like you are experiencing life right along with Julie and the twins. I became so wrapped-up in this story that I did not want it to end. If you are looking for a book that will take you along for the ride and make you feel ALL the feels, then this is for you. A unique story of becoming a parent that you don’t have to actually be a parent to appreciate and love. A book has not made me feel so deeply such a range of emotions in a long time. I guarantee that you will fall in love with Julie, and the people who come in and out of her life, and will be recommending this book to everyone in yours.
