When you have the chance to change your life would you take it, or die trying? When Mike Slater and Dan Sharpe set off on a dream football tour of Europe things could only get better. Mike would be free from living under his father's shadow and Dan free from a father who only looked at him through the bottom of a vodka bottle. But from the onset their dream quickly turns into a nightmare. Unknowingly coerced into smuggling drugs they become pawns for Interpol, live bait to catch one of Europe's biggest drug barons who will stop at nothing to retrieve what is his. Pursued by killers through Belgium, Holland, Germany and eventually Paris, they will run for their lives testing their courage to the limit. Only then will they learn the hard truth that misguided teenage actions lead to consequences that will turn boys into men and change their lives forever. Who would have thought playing football might get you killed.
Wow this book was quite the adventure! I was hooked since the prologue, leaving me eager to find out what happened within 9 days for the prologue to have happened.
I certainly enjoyed the various adventures that Mike and Dan went on while on a football tour across Europe. Who knew 2 teenage boys would somehow get involved with one of the biggest drug lords in Europe and be so close to getting caught every time. Definitely nice to see the boys use some survival instincts while on the run, although it was Dan's foolishness that caused both of them to be in trouble in the first place. Totally enjoyed seeing how the boys have matured over time, especially Dan! The bits of football action mixed in with the fear of being hunted down set a nice pace throughout, giving us readers a little break to absorb everything that just happened.
To be honest, Dan really rubbed me the wrong way for the longest time, might be his typically male teenager attitude or his reckless actions, but thankfully I stuck through it and he was able to redeem himself!
I would have liked some closure as to what happens to Dan, Dan's father and Jim, seeing how the epilogue mostly focuses on Mike Like I wanted to know whether Dan's father was punished for his part in the drug ring or how Mike's parents reacted when Jim showed up with Mike.
Before I get into my review, I would like to say that i received a copy of the Wrong Game through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.
The Wrong Game was an exciting book. The prologue makes you wonder what happened to cause the situation described in it and of course eager to read more. From then on there are a numerous amount of exhilarating moments. From learning about what got Dan and Mike into trouble to them being chased throughout Europe, the book has no shortage thrilling events.
I do agree with one of the previous reviews that I would have liked to know what happened to some of the other characters at the end of the book.
On the whole I would have to say it was a good, enjoyable read.
