Shalima is, without a doubt, a desperate woman. Between caring for her ailing father, raising her daughter, and dealing with the constant danger her boyfriend, a struggling rapper with a debt to the streets, brings to her home, she's at her wit's end. She needs a way out—fast.
Malik seems to be the perfect solution. Handsome, with a steady job and a low-key lifestyle, he'd be a great fit for Shalima's situation. There's just one problem, and it's not that he's married—Malik has troubling skeletons in his closet.
Will Shalima find love and the safety and security she so urgently seeks? Or is Malik's distrust of financially unstable women the start of an even worse situation for Shalima?
I don’t have a single word left! There was much to love about this story, but what I loved most was how we have 2 completely different storylines for about 80% of the book… & when Samyra Alexander linked them together, let’s just say the link was linking! Not only was my jaw on the floor at 1% in, she kept it there for the majority of this story. Malik will have you questioning your own sanity & when you mix crazy with crazy (Malik & Tony) you get an insane explosion. Curtis & Shalima absolutely stressed me out as well, but I was deeply invested in seeing how it played out. And WHAT AN ENDING‼️ Now this is how you write a suspense novel. Would certainly recommend!
I loved the story, it was easy to get into it when you started and Malik is a butthead, I don't care what happened when he was younger. Sorry for it but me, myself and I would have seen him as a walking red flag just off the things he said and faces he made. Everybody ignores their inner spark bells for a pretty face and dollar bills 😂 don't do that. Shalima while she may have began as trying to do the "right thing" girl you can take some of those red flags too. It was fun reading about them both and a little disturbing at times but I was entertained. It's a little heavy on the details, some people like that, and some are like me who feel it congests the book a bit more. All and all the book was an entertaining read with many twists and turns. If you like psychological reads, and cat and mouse type "who's smarter than who" this will be right up your alley. Pick it up.
After reading a few books by the author, I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but I knew she'd deliver--and deliver, she did! I started reading this late at night and fell asleep reading it, then woke up reading it because it was that good! I have a couple of questions about Malik's childhood, though I think that adds to the mystery of his character. There aren't many authors who can take multiple characters and create a dynamic story with superb character development, but Samyra is definitely that chick! We may need to call her Ms. Don't Miss, because everything she writes is on point! I'm looking forward to her next book.
This was a very dark read. Malik had a lot of issues but the main person around him didn't serve him any good. Lima's friend wasn't much better. A twisted tale of secrets, lies, and vengeance. Definitely a cautionary tale in some respects.
I really didn’t & still don’t feel like writing this review tbh. But let’s start with the fact that I loved Malik idc idc idc!! He was hilarious to me despite being insane. Nothing about this falls under psychological thriller in my opinion but I enjoyed the quick read. I did not like Shalima on any level… STOP HERE IF YOU DONT WANT SOME MINOR SPOILERS!!!!!
you mean to tell me you’ve been with this street nigga for 10 years & your home getting shot up immediately made you question his love & loyalty for his family? Even the fact that you didn’t gain not one ounce of street smarts for yourself after all those years?! I can understand questioning your future with him but in 10 years that incident is the first aside from 1 gambling incident where he lost a lump sum of money.. just stupid and made no sense… none of the moves she made made any sense to me
Aside from that this definitely shows how important it is to not play with people emotions. Going after somebody for monetary gain is super popular in our current culture & this gave a glance into how that could possibly turn out for you. Now keep in mind neither of them niggas were genuine regardless of if she wanted a relationship with them or not. The ending felt like a quick wrap up but I loved how Curtis & deon ended up being Malik’s favorite rappers that he mentioned through the story & I loved how skinny hoe’s baby dad ended it all… just loved how the author tied that together.
Overall I enjoyed this quick read but if you’re into psychological thrillers this really isn’t it but it is a fun read in its own right lol
The Predator's Prey is a thrilling and captivating psychological thriller that explores the dark and complex dynamics between Shalima and Malik. The author masterfully navigates the thin line between love and obsession, creating a suspenseful and unpredictable plot that keeps readers engaged until the very end. The characters are well-developed and their actions and motivations are compelling.
I particularly appreciated the exploration of moral boundaries and the consequences of crossing them. Overall, The Predator's Prey is a thought-provoking and chilling read that will leave readers on the edge of their seats so I highly recommend this great book.
In the first half I was irritated with Shalima and her choices and I definitely didn’t understand how Malik fit in…but in the second half things started mixing and getting faster and I must admit this turned into quite an interesting crime thriller with a satisfying ending too!
this nigga is sick…. dancing around in woman panties and choking prostitute as punishment for being whores… inside a mind of a could a been serial killer
The author is one of my new favorites. Although some parts of the book were hard for me to read, I could not stop. I had to know how the story ended and how everyone was connected.
I received a copy from the Author at the beginning of the year for an honest review. 3.5 ⭐️For the most part, I enjoyed the book, even though it wasn’t as suspenseful as I thought it would be. Some parts were predictable, but the author did well developing some of the characters.
You ever finished a book, know you liked it, but can’t quite put into words how you feel? This is that book for me.
Samyra Alexander’s The Predator’s Prey hits the ground running from the very first page and is filled with nonstop action, wild twists, and a cast of unhinged characters that you would never believe actually existed. I mean these people are CRAZY! LOL! Buckle up before you read this one because the author will certainly take you on a ride!
Let me be honest here, Malik and Tony both belong in an insane asylum, and the FMC Shalima really needs to evaluate her life and who she takes advice from! This was a good read, but I was glad to get off that roller coaster ride because so much went down y’all!
This book is a reminder to be careful who you try to mess with or take advantage of because there are so many crazy folks out there and you never know who you are dealing with. It also teaches us to learn to appreciate and work with the people in our lives who love us because the grass is never, and I repeat, never, greener on the other side.
Like I said, this was a good read. I was able to read all of it in just a few hours, and it kept me engaged and I enjoyed the craziness of the characters. The beginning started off super strong, but the middle was a little repetitive and did drag a bit for me. The last 20% or so more than made up for that and was absolutely explosive! We see the two storylines that we had been following throughout the story finally collide and it was pure fireworks!
Overall, I did enjoy this read. This was my first book by this author, but it will definitely not be my last.
I want to note to please, please, please read the TW before going into this book. There is quite a bit that happens on page that may be sensitive to some readers, so I implore you to look into the TW before reading.
I could kick myself for waiting this long to read The Predator’s Prey! Samyra Alexander’s pen game is one hell of a drug! (In my Rick James voice) Samyra Alexander holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and it clearly shows through this fierce psychological thriller. This novel features a dual narrative, with chapters alternating between Shalima and Malik. Shalima is a mother caring for her sick father while raising a daughter attempting to make things work with her boyfriend and Malik is a handsome, career driven guy with seemingly all the characteristics of a good man. I was on edge trying to figure out how Malik and Shamila’s paths would collide and there’s absolutely no way I would have predicted their unforeseen collision. The Predator’s Prey is a dark, unsettling thriller bursting with tension, suspense and an in depth look at the inner workings of the complex human mind.
"The Predator's Prey" by Samyra Alexander immediately intrigued me, though I found myself a bit disoriented at first. However, as I delved deeper into the plot, I began to grasp the intricate layers of the story. It's important to note that this novel contains intense themes, so I highly recommend reviewing the trigger warnings before diving in.
Samyra's writing is impressive, showcasing exceptional world-building and character development that truly captivate the reader. As a dark psychological suspense novel, it explores themes that may leave some readers feeling hesitant about engaging with the outside world. If you enjoy narratives that delve into complexity and darker facets of the human experience, "The Predator's Prey" is definitely worth your time. Just remember to check those trigger warnings beforehand. Happy reading!
Malik was something else! Before I could wrap my head around what he did in one chapter he was doing something way worse in the next! I was like geeeessshh! This sick man… yet I found myself wondering what he was up to whenever Shalima’s chapters would come back to back. It took a minute for me to like her. Well I actually never did like anyone lol but I felt for her even though I didn’t like that she constantly needed to be told what to do next. I was glad when she finally stood her ground!
The overall storyline was good, but I really had to force myself to read through the book. The descriptions were too specific/detailed. When I’m reading, I like to imagine how the story plot plays out. However, I became so hyper focused on the details that I spent more time trying to create the image in my head than time spent enjoy the book. Again, great storyline, just too detailed/much descriptors for my liking.
Oh mannnn Malik and Tony showed their whole tails in here. Lima what did we learn?? This was soooo good Samyra I just need to know what's Malik diagnosis? Cause a straight jacket was calling his name. And poor Diane I think I wouldve done the same thing but to think its still a seed floating around thats half him.. Yikes
This was Chef kiss Samyra!! I definitely recommend
This psychological thriller wrecked me! My jaw is still on the floor. The author did a wonderful job writing this crazy good thriller and integrating grounding techniques and coping skills to help the reader learn techniques to regulate their emotions. You may want to utilize those skills while reading this thriller. If someone name Malik ask you out, RUN! I highly recommend this thriller.
Samyra Alexander delves into dark and disturbing territory in “The Predator's Prey,”exploring the lasting impact of childhood trauma with unflinching honesty.
This book tackles a taboo subject, raising compelling questions about nature versus nurture.
What sets this book apart is the author's ability to balance these heavy themes with a compelling and entertaining plot.
SAMYRA! MS. ALEXANDER! Wow. Whoa. The first paragraph in the first chapter had my mouth on the floor. I had to re read what I just read to make sure that’s what I just read! Malik was something else, not sure what, but he was something. The craziness had me hooked from page one. I expected nothing less from this author! LOL!
This book took me on a roller coaster ride! I almost choked on a skittle 1% in the book, the middle of the book I was staring at the wall, towards the end of the book I was sad and the ending!! I was thrilled! Read this today.!
Love the storyline for the most part. I just feel that the characters could’ve been more fleshed out and expanded a bit more. It seemed a bit rushed. Other that it was a quick but good read. Lots of twists that keep you on your toes
This was so interesting....there was an issue with every single character in this book. They all had issues! Definitely a good read, kept me hooked from start to finish.
