J'avais hâte de lire l'œuvre d'une autrice québécoise, chose que je n'avais pas fait depuis un certains temps, ce fut une déception.
The protagonists undergo no deep character developement, the author does no such thing as delving into their psyche, or even caress its mishaps, all she does is remain on the surface level, everything feels superficial, shallow, with no soul to it, meant to be read fast, consumed and thrown away for the next experience.
I do not adhere to the consumerist Frenzy in literature, I take my reading seriously. I do enjoy a well written. Well developed work of fiction, and this one does not even try to fit into that category, and that’s okay.
There is also so much predictability to the path that’s being taken, the choices that were being made, nothing too farfetched.
Can we also mention all the clichés, of the big sexy guy with muscles, who does everything to try and save the subject of his desires? And her, how fragile and needy she is, how she tries to get herself out of the situation, but not too much, because she still needs the big guy with muscles, who calls her «princess» when he takes her by the hips, and who says «I’m not a prince» as he plunges his manhood into her..
Points that might be considered as good :
1.The author’s juxtapositions of the story’s events, names and characters with those from Snow white’s story, making a considerable (sarcasm) effort to make her story a modern enchanted fairy tale.
2.It was meant to be a fast read, and it is a fast read. No linguistic ornamentation, very basic writing style, perfect for beginners. But I still wouldn’t let my kids anywhere near her books.
