Superb museum guide. Overview of the masterpieces but crucially, gives a background on the artist’s life as well as details of the painting or sculpture. Every museum guide should be like this one.

Barring the slightly too frequent grammatical errors (hey, if English editors are in short supply at Italian museum presses, I'd be happy to lend a hand) this was a decent run-through of the frankly splendid sculptures, frescoes and oil paintings in the keeping of the Vatican. A good little reference volume for the bookcase.
