"Luke Coles and the Forest Assassin" by Josh Walker is the second book of the series "Luke Coles".

The first book ("Luke Coles and the Flower of Chiloé") was an amazing book, an introduction to the characters full of action and paranormal creatures. The second book even exceeds it.

The plot already starts with a race and a discovery. Flashbacks and different narrators place the reader slowly into every scene. We find out a bit more about the past of the characters. Walker answers some unresponded questions and makes you remember little details of the first book.

We face new creatures, learn more tradition and mythology and fall more in love with the characters. The romance stays as the main thread, brushed with all the action and sarcasm secondary characters provide to the story, like the Captain (who makes the whole plot mysterious.

The plot is unexpected because you learn about new events and secrets, even being a second book with similar shades, you don't expect the twists of the book and although the characters are telling stories from the first chapter, the author plays with keeping the reader blind until the end.

One thing that I personally like about Walker is, beyond his great writing which is pleasurable and easy to read, how he finds a middle point on the level of terror, creating stories that whether adults and teenagers can enjoy. How amazing is that? It could be a dangerous combination because done it the wrong way, it could result in bored adults and terrified children. But far from that, when you finish every chapter (changing the narrator and flashback) you turn the page back and forth, thinking "no no no, I need to know more about this" and, like that, you reach the end of the book, and look for the next book.

I'm already recommending this series to all families I know because I'm certain they will love it. And so will you. Congratulations to the author, again (and not the last).
