One moment I am the sister to the bride and the next I’m the blushing bride in an arranged marriage to a complete stranger.
As alpha of one of the largest packs in Alaska, I am a busy man. My pack feels it is past time for me to mate and have cubs. The other pack is looking for more power. So, an arrangement was brokered between our packs, a strategic alliance. As part of the deal, it was agreed that I would marry the other pack alpha’s daughter, a stranger who is said to be beautiful. However when I arrive to claim my prize it is obvious she does not want to uphold her end of the bargain. Honestly, I am not that upset. I am about to blow the whole deal out of the water because my true fated mate is in this house and is not my intended.
One look at her, and I realize I’m done running. Time is up, and whether she likes it or not, she’s mine.

DNF. Got to 67% through and gave up. I'm super confused by all these high rated reviews. This book wasn't good at all. The transitions were choppy. The story doesn't make continuous sense. Wierd high intensity situations and emotional outbursts seem to happen out of no where and then resolve in ways that also make no sense. This story is deeply misogynistic, and I don't even consider myself a feminist. Mischa is a eugenics loving, misogynistic, bigot. Every time he opens his mouth I want someone to cut his dick off. He keeps saying/acting like Simone, his fated mate, is his property and she should be grateful that he doesn't....kidnap her, rape her, beat her, etc. (He uses each of these examples). He openly talks about his and Simone's intimacy with his beta as though it's locker room talk (i.e. her personality and behavior improved so much once he had sex with her, but in more lewd terms). At one point early on Mischa asks Simone if she's afraid of him. Her response is to say yes and then immediately say she hasn't even tasted his wine (his pack makes wine). This strange man was supposed to marry your sister in a business deal but is fated to you instead. You don't know him at all. You are afraid of the flight you are currently on. He snaps his teeth in her face because he thinks it's funny she's scared. But her response is that she hasn't had the wine he makes and that's why she's scared of him. She also interchangeably used vinyard and pack. One is a place the other is a group of people. Simone is never truly developed as a character and seems dim, shallow, and awkward, but not in an interesting way or leading to any kind of character development. Since the book is so short, I really did try to push through, but I couldn't do it. Again, I'm super confused by all the 5 stars.
Yeah this is wonderful fated mated romance with Shifters, in this case we are talking of Dire Wolf Shifters. This is a great story with action and some smutty scenes too. There a couple of secrets that I didn’t figure out ahead of time that were excellent as well, I thought I had figured out one, but I was wrong 😂 I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.
Delta James has written another good book. Mischa and Simone are two unlikely people who end up in marriage. There relationship has some unexpected twists and turns and there is some suspense. I voluntarily leave this review.
Dire wolf shifters have come out to play! Mischa is in search of a mate with impeccable lineage. What he finds is his fated mate, Simone. The chemistry was off the charts! And we got more than one plot twist, which kept me on the edge of my seat!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
If there's one thing that Delta James is good at, it's crafting a well-told story with amazing characters. Some of the characters aren't human (like "Kitty", the pet Eurasian lynx) but they have just as much personality as any of the main characters.
I liked the Alaskan settings as well. Do they really have vineyards there? The pack family there welcome their alpha's new mate. Although the bonding ceremony plays a central role in the story, it doesn't occur until the very end of the book. I admit that I felt cheated that the book ended just when the ceremony was getting started.
This is not a long book and there could be a lot more detail added to the story. Instead, this glosses over quite a bit. For example, there is no physical description of some of the characters involved. The transition from human to dire wolf is not described in any detail.
I think this is a very good book, but I did want more.

Substitute Mate de Delta James Serie Otter Cove Shifters libro 3
Argumento:
Sinceramente, no estoy tan molesto.
The new series is a spin-off from the Mystic River Shifters series and will even have cameo appearances from some of the characters in that series. Like Mystic River, Otter Cove is a small, isolated community inhabited only by shifters—but shifters of all kinds. This story will be about Mikhail ‘Mischa’ Palmer and Simone.
Mischa is ready to take a mate and has Valentin make a deal with Giuliano Bacchus for his daughter, Guiliana, or GiGi, to be his mate. Mischa wants to try and keep the pure bloodlines of their Dire Wolf packs, and GiGi has that pedigree. So, he is traveling to Sicily to bring his mate home. But fate—as in fated mates—will change everything when Mischa meets GiGi’s younger sister, Simone.
The story’s plot will have Mischa traveling to Italy for a deal with Bacchus who has two daughters, and no sons. What was to be ironed out will change as GiGi throws a tantrum and Mischa discovers Simone—his fated mate. Not everyone is happy about the change in plans, but Mischa is adamant that it must be Simone. GiGi is thrilled not to leave Sicily and Martina is worried. But, Mischa will leave with Simone, who seems to be indifferent to the exchange.
Martina: Try not to be too odd. Your father doesn’t want anyone to question your pedigree. GiGi: Translation, don’t try shifting in front of others, and keep your Dr. Doolittle routine to a minimum.
“Sleep, little one, and know you are home. We are one now, as we have been before, and will be again.”
The story is mystery, suspense, and surprises. I love the chemistry between Mischa and Simone. I like that she isn’t afraid to be outspoken, has a sweet spirit, and hoping to work with Tangled Vines as a vintner. The story will have the good, the bad, and the ugly—in several cases.
Mischa: You were brave and strong, and any children I sire on your will be a credit to our bloodline and our kind. I just need to take care of that last guy. Simone: I could have done that, I thought you’d want to question him.
“She is death, and I am her master.”
As these stories continue, so does the danger of the Shadow League and that means that various shifters groups are preparing for war—one they know is imminent. While these stories do not end on cliffhangers, the epilogue is a segue into the next story in the series, Accidental Mate, due out in October 2023.
It wasn't her best but had some interesting twists and turns that tended to be telegraphed & one that needed to be resolved but wasn't. Misha is determined to keep his bloodline pure and pack strong - see where this is going... The fact he's so adamant about it really makes the reader not like him at first. He goes to retrieve his arranged bride and hits a wall - he's arranged to marry the wrong sister. There's some off book discussion and Misha and Simone head home. Simone makes sure Misha agrees to bring Kitty before knowing Kitty is really a Eurasian Lynx. Kitty plays a part in the needed to be resolved secondary story.
Simone knows she's not the pureblood perfect mate and while it works out in the end, she frets about it. It's becoming an old trope. She does show some backbone and once united with her Dire wolf, don't mess with her. Misha needed to grovel and beg for forgiveness but didn't. He did squirm with jealousy which was good and seems to realize a fated mate is better than a pureblood. Simone is the perfect light and sunny to Misha's dark and grumpy. The same can't be said for her Dire wolf who really needs to be turned loose on the man who raised her.
There were parts such as more groveling from Misha, letting Simone's Dire wolf out to "terrorize" the male who raised her, the bonding ceremony, are Val and GiGi going to get together, the conversation between Colby and Kitty, etc. that would have made the story better by expanding on them. The story as it was, was simple and ended quickly.
The epilogue in this series has been used as a short cut to blurb the next book in the series and not to give the reader a snapshot of the couple's future. It's becoming obnoxious. The abrupt endings or rushing through to the end seems to become a pattern that needs to stop. Misha & Simone were a good couple but could have been so much more.

Substitute Mate, Otter Cove Shifters, #3 is a fun & worthy addition to this series.
Mischa knew it was time for him to take a mate. He was ready to do it for his pack, the continuation of his species. It was arranged as any business deal would be, no emotions, just for the benefit of the parties involved. He even traveled across the world, from Alaska to Sicily, to make the advantageous deal. That resolve ended very shortly after his arrival. The proposed bride just wasn’t having it. Mischa willingly terminated that arrangement, because he became aware of someone else, his fated mate, sister to the ex-bride.
Simone was content to be in her family’s compound, supervising creation of the family wine, with little or no notice or recognition. Instead, she quickly found herself packed & boarding a plane to Alaska.
Mischa & Simone quickly gave in to the mating call, although things did not progress as expected. There were secrets to be revealed and insecurities overcome. The foundation of a new union to be made. Would love be part of that union?
I really liked Mischa & Simone. There was no question that Mischa was a forceful, powerful alpha, yet he showed a tenderness to Simone that helped her overcome her shyness & supported her as she made peace with her past and met her future. And when she faced that future, Simone was able to do so with power and confidence, a fitting mate to her Alpha!
Another ‘new’ species in the world Delta James has so gleefully crafted. We glimpsed some old friends and we’re teased with possible future H/h. As always, the steam was steamy! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well done!!

Simply wonderful read, great characters and scenario that holds you riveted throughout
Once again, the Shadow sisters had killed her mother and the parents that had taken her into their home and had saved the child and raised her as their own daughter hiding the fact that she actually was a shifter and that they had secreted her heritance until the day Mischa came along.
Mischa had been a dire wolf all of his life and had accepted the time had come for him to take a mate and had gone to Italy to meet and collect his new mate GiGi who on first seeing him had run away begging her father that she not be allowed to go. Instantly his attention had been drawn to the other woman and this had been her sister Simone who he had instantly known was his fated mate.
They all went to the new home with her mate and she realised that for the first time she actually felt as though she was where she belonged along with her beloved pet Kitty, a very large Lynx she had healed and cared for since she had been a young child and she had been her constant companion and confidant.
As the story begins to open up and the mating between Simone and Mischa come about it seems that there are a great many secrets in her life and that she is now not only going through the change as Fated Mates but is also teaching her true story.
I loved every moment of this wonderful book and am sure that you will love every moment of this book, I have to say I think this has been one of my favourite books in the Otter Cove series.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
A new species is joining the shifter community and its coming war against The Shadow League. The Dire Wolf population is both ancient and nearing extinction levels... the alpha of the Otter Cove clan is determined to take a strong mate and expand their numbers, but his contracted bride turns out to not be so very interested in the deal... so what's an alpha to do when meeting his unwilling arranged bride brings him directly to her sister, his fated mate? Secrets long hidden must be revealed before our HEA, while new questions are added to the neverending pile we continue to work through.
Simone is our curvy Italian MFC, who believes herself broken as a shifter. Her parents have a struggling vineyard that she contributes her fine skills toward, and they do not want to part with her... for more reasons than are clear. Her father is a gangster/mobster and definitely involved in some shady stuff. Mikael Palmer is the confident alpha of the Otter Cove Dire Wolf clan... a strong and obnoxiously opinionated alpha whose ideas will be reshaped as he meets and cares for Simone, but also an exceedingly successful businessman, operating a fine vineyard himself while running illicit Sablefish on the side... and perhaps another less than lawful operation or two as well.
We make many small inroads into the larger puzzle of the enemy soon to be faced. And while we don't feel like we've learned a lot here, I can see the openings being made for coming stories to reveal.
Although I’ve read a number of other books by Delta, this was my first foray into her shifter universe and though perhaps not as powerful as her Club Southside novels, this was nevertheless an entertaining story and a fun way to spend a few hours in a whole new world. I have to admit that I hadn’t heard of a dire wolf before and had to do a little research. Apparently, they were the bigger and badder ancestors of today’s modern wolf. Cool! Mischa wasn’t one of my favorite characters, his bigoted insistence on pure bloodlines and disdain for turned wolves or fated mates left a lot to be desired. Yet, when he goes to pick up his intended, he realizes he’s come for the wrong sister and declares Simone his fated mate. Say, what! Poor Simone is now his bride, and is bundled off to Alaska whether she likes it or not. It was hard to get a read on Mischa, who treated Simone like an arrogant jerk one minute and a tender lover the next. Simone was difficult to pin down too. Taken away from her family and thrown into a new pack, she was a bit shy and wishy-washy at first, but quickly grew a backbone and proved she was no pushover. I liked her quiet strength and, despite her little wobbly at dinner on her second night, I liked the way she interacted with the people in her new home. When Simone’s secret is revealed, Mischa will be forced to eat his words, although by that stage he seemed to be more than willing to admit his mistake. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was intrigued by the premise of the book. This is my first book by this author, and I was willing to give it a go. A bonus was that it’s a shorter read, taking me less than 2 hours to read.
I liked that the story was set in Alaska, and that, while the dire wolf pack is honorable, they were willing to be involved in slightly shady things for the good of the pack. I also liked that there were communities of different types of shifters living in the world together.
The MMC, Mischa, began the story as an arrogant alphahole who was obsessed with bloodlines. But from the minute he saw Simone, it was like he was a damn puppy rolled on his back for belly rubs. I get the insta-attraction from a mate bond, but this story lacked delicious tension. It tried, but it just didn’t sell it.
I tend to prefer writing styles that flow, almost lyrical like. For me, James’ writing felt stilted, stiff, and a little flat—a lot of of telling without showing, and literal descriptions that lacked the grace of a ballroom dancer. Scenes were described but not painted. Emotions were given but not felt.
It was a good diversion for an evening, but sadly not one I’ll think about nor read again. Which was sad for me, because the author and this book is generally well-received. But I understand that not every author is for every reader, and vice versa. (So take my thoughts with a grain of salt.)
I received an advance review copy for free. My thoughts are my own and voluntarily given.
It was no surprise to me that this book by Ms. James is a winner as she continues to lay a solid foundation for this series. The pages turned with ease the more I involved myself in the lives of Mischa and Simone. The characters were believable despite their paranormal abilities. The dialogue was sharp and painted a vivid picture of the shifter community. I loved the intense chemistry, danger, suspense, and mystery in this story. The Shadow League continues to be problematic while Simone’s pet cat shows its true self.
Mischa’s dreams had been plagued by a blond-haired temptress who eluded him. Imagine his surprise that the sister of the female he had intended to mate with to strengthen his pack was his fated mate and the girl of his dreams. Even though their relationship was a merger between two powerful shifter clans it was obvious that Simone and Mischa were fated mates.
Simone accepted her fate and fell under Mischa’s spell. She was brave, strong, and despite her situation, she came out the other side not willing to let go. She was a contradiction. She was confident and knowledgeable about wines, but timid about life and herself.
This story was well-written, easy to read, and entertaining. I thought the ending was abrupt and left me wanting to know more about this couple and their situation.
Another great story in the Alaskan shifter series. Mischa is a dire wolf shifter who is determined to marry another pureblood dire wolf shifter. He finds one in Italy, the oldest daughter of a mafia Don, but when he arrives to claim her he realizes that her younger sister is his fated mate and negotiates for her instead.
Simone is happy to be the younger sister, though she does wish she had GiGi's looks and maybe her skinnier body type. At least she isn't being sold off to a strange alpha in Alaska as a brood mare - until she is. But she decides she likes her new home and maybe even her prospective mate. Unfortunately, she knows he will not be happy when he learns she has never been able to shift. When they find out why she can't change forms it will surprise them both.
I found both of these characters to be amazing. Mischa stubbornly thinks only a purebred will give him the offspring he wants, but finding his true mate had never entered his mind. Now he realizes that her bloodline is not all that important and is willing to embrace his destiny. Simone finds out things she never would have imagined and one of them is how strong she really is. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
This was a small town arranged marriage paranormal shifter romance.
Another smoking hot book in this series. I loved the way Mischa changes his attitude about bloodlines when he realizes he loves Simone. Highly recommend!
Simone Bacchus is the younger daughter of the alpha of the Dire Wolf Pack in Sicily. Her sister GiGi was promised to Mischa in an arranged marriage. Simone is the unofficial wine maker for the family vineyard.
Mikhail Mischa Palmer is the alpha of the Tangled Vines Dire Wolf Pack. In order to keep the bloodlines pure he contracted with the other pack in an arranged marriage.
They meet when Mischa travels to Sicily to bring his fiancee home. As soon as he enters their villa he realizes Simone is his fated mate. He and Giuliano, her father, change the terms of the agreement and he takes Simone and her pet lynx home instead. When they hookup he gives her the claiming bite which triggers her transition to Dire Wolf. This brings out a family secret and a surprise about her pet. Simone gets kidnapped and shifts for the first time. Mischa and Simone get bonded and get their HEA.

OMG! Wow, I was absolutely astounded reading this fantastic book, the story was exhilarating and the characters were really captivating. This story was about Misha and Simone, Misha went to Sicily for a she-wolf GiGi she cried and carried on not wanting to go, then Misha felt his mate the younger daughter Simone she had the curves he likes, he had to pay more for her she had a pet Lynx that protected her. Misha took her back with him to Alaska. Simone always helps her sister not to go with Misha then Simone found out she is going not her sister. Simone always wanted to change into her Wolf like everyone, she couldn't understand. Misha had the doctor looked at her to see why she hasn't shifted yet and what they found out shocked them, she thought she should pack until she had seen Misha and stopped. She was quiet and always stayed home, she was even home-schooled so she thought what they found out was a deal breaker, or not when he held her she wanted him just as bad. Once Misha claimed her, her life was changed forever and she loved it.
This book branches our to yet another sector of Otter Cove. One on the outskirts where the Dire Wolves reign. Mischa was an awesome Alpha (if a bit stuck in his ways). Simone was simply the second child of the gangster vintner, until Mischa's arrival.
True to form, Delta insurred these characters were well rounded and full of opportunities for growth and betterment. The scenes in Itally were done with breathtaking beauty, and while those in Alaska reminded us of the climate change, they too were spectacular in description.
The plot and movement of this book was a bit slow in getting underway, but once thing got going they never hit the brakes. This is one of the things I enjoy most about Delta's works. The pacing of her stories never fail to draw me in, and keep me glued to the pages. I simply love her work!! I have read this entire series thus far (and other Delta books) so I was able to see some of the twists coming. Some, but not all. Hopefully there will always be something she does that surprises me.
I volunteered to read/review an ARC, and am thrilled to have done so. Hope this review helped you. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Mischa is the alpha of a dire wolf shifter pack in Alaska. He doesn't believe in fated mates and is worried about the shrinking number of dire wolf shifters. He has his beta arrange a marriage with a pure bred dire wolf shifter daughter of a vinemaker and mafia leader in Italy. Imagine Mischa's shock when he arrives to find his arranged fiancee pitching a fit and his fated mate watching the whole scene. Mischa quickly changes gears and changes the arrangement so he can mate Simone, the younger daughter of the alpha. However life has more surprises for Mischa.
Simone is the youngest daughter who feels like the biggest disappointment to her family. She is 23 and has never been able to shift into her dire wolf form. She has been very successful in the family vineyard but her father seems to ignore her contribution. Simone is very surprised when her sister's arranged fiance claims her as his mate to be instead of her beautiful older sister. She never thought she would leave her family but maybe this change could be the best thing for her. That is if her future mate doesn't reject her first.
This book was a little different from others in the series. I was surprised that I didn't mind the lack of pushback from Simone when she discovered Mischa determined her to be his fated mate.
Normally the H is chasing the H across the globe trying to get her to accept her role as a fated mate. Not so in this book.
What I didn't understand was the tantrum Simone had after her meeting with Val. It didn't make much sense to me and I am not sure it was explained in a way to make it understandable.
There were a couple of obvious things that Simone had with her and both proved to be unexpected twists in the story.
I enjoyed Mischa and Simone getting to know one another, engaging with other Otter Cove residents, solving the mystery of Simone, and ultimately discovering her dire wolf. If you are looking for a low angst, fast paced book with a bit of mystery, this book may work for you. I am looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Delta James is an Amazing writer. Her books are so much fun to read! Mischa is a sexy wolf shifter Alpha. His pack owns and runs the Tangle Vines vineyard. Mischa has everything all he needs now is a mate. So he makes a deal with an Italian Alpha. He will pay the Alpha a large sum for one his daughter's in marriage. Problem is she does not want Mischa. Then Mischa sees her younger sister Simone. He knows right off she is his fated mate! Only there is a reason her father did not offer her. Mischa offers more money and he gets his fated mate! Simone is shocked when Mischa chooses her! She is curvy where her sister GiGi looks like a model. Of course no one reveals Simone's secret. Simone is twenty-three and has yet to shift! After he learns the truth will Mischa turn his back on his fated mate? Can they figure out how to bring her wolf out?
You will love this super exciting, funny, thrilling, and scorching hot shifter romance. This is a five star plus story and series.
I found this book to be very captivating and engaging. The chemistry between Mischa and Simone is spot on. Mischa's patience and willingness to help Simone become the best version of herself are admirable, and they complement each other well. Simone's innocence and desire for love and acceptance bring out Mischa's protective and nurturing side, which is a departure from his usual gruff and ruthless character as an alpha dire-wolf.
Simone's secret is intriguing, and I am eager to see how it will unfold in the future of the series. I appreciated the fact that despite being in distress at one point in the book, Simone managed to find a way to save herself, which was empowering to read. However, I must warn you that there is a brutal scene that may be uncomfortable for some readers. Nonetheless, I thought it fit the pace of the book well.
The steamy scenes in the book were written exceptionally well, and I found myself rereading them multiple times.

Mischa goes to Italy to get his arranged bride only to find her sister is his fated mate. He has her substituted instead of the original contract. Simone has never shifted. She's believes she's defective. As Simone and Mischa get to know one another, Simone is kidnapped by business associates that wanted women not guns and now want to take revenge out on her. But Simone surprised them as she transformed into a dire wolf and killed most of her attackers. When Mischa claimed her, she transitioned from human to wolf. Her parents never told her the truth of her true lineage of human parents and their death by the shadow league.
This book is packed full! Drama, steam, action, adventure, danger, protective wolf shifter, strong human woman turned wolf, fated mates, wonderful characters, and entertaining. It's also contains an on going story line of the evil shadow league and the helpful shadow sisters that is found in other books in this series. Really good story!

Mischa, Alpha of the Alaskan Dire Wolf pack, feels it is time to take a mate, it is arranged that he will marry GiGi, daughter of the Alpha of the Sicilian Dire wolves and continue to keep the purity of the Dire Wolf bloodline.
When Mischa arrives in Sicily however he is surprised to find that GiGi’s younger sister Simone is in fact his fated mate. The arrangement is changed so that it is Simone that will travel back to Alaska and mate with Mischa.
I really enjoyed all the characters in this book and found that though Mischa could be a grouch, he truly loved Simone.
This was a great read full of romance, suspense and a twist. It’s the first book that I’ve read in the Otter Cove series but I will definitely read the other books in the series now.
This book can be read as a standalone.

What a great addition to the Mystic River Shifters timeline. Otter Cove has become very important to the group because of the growing need to fight the Shadow League/Ruling Council. Mischa has decided that he needs to be mated and have children. At first, he is in the purist camp that demands that dire wolves only mate with other dire wolves. Once he is promised, he goes to get his future mate and meets Simone. He demands her for his mate, and Simone agrees. Ahhh, but what Mischa gets differs from what he thinks he wants. The story moves on to show the reader, once again, that the Ruling Council is evil and that the Shadow Sisters move to protect women whenever they can.
I enjoyed this story immensely. Simone is a strong woman who continues in the face of adversity. She takes on challenges and becomes the mate that Mischa is looking for.
I'm looking forward to Accidental Mate and hope Gigi gets her story told.
I received an advance copy, and this is my honest review.
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! Mischa and Simone turned out to be a wonderful story, I thought at first Mischa was going to be the superficial dominate Alpha but he turned out to be so much more just as Simone was kind of timid in the beginning but turned out to be a baddass chick! I am totally in love with Delta James' books! Her world building is so good I feel like I'm actually there and they way she describes her characters whether main or secondary I feel like I know them and want to be friends, but don't get me wrong Ms. James will surprise you just to throw you off lol. She has become one of my go to authors and with great writing like this she will be my go to for years to come! I can't get enough of Mystic and Otter Cove Shifters! More please Ms. James!!
You HAVE TO read this series as well as her Mystic Cove Shifters series!!

Mikhail "Mischa" Palmer was the alpha of the Dire Wolf pack in Otter Cove Alaska, and as such, insisted he could only mate another old-lineage Dire Wolf to insure the line was pure… so when a Dire pack in Sicily proposed an arranged marriage between Mischa and his oldest daughter GiGi, he accepted. His beta Valentin advised he should wait to find his fated mate but he didn't listen. On arrival in Italy, he meets with the alpha and is supposed to meet his intended, but she's throwing tantrum, with her younger sister watching. Mischa hears a loud buzzing, knows his fated mate is nearby, and it's not GiGi, but Simone, the younger daughter… so what will it take to make his fated mate his??? You will need to read this story to see what happens when he brings Simone and her pet Eurasian Lynx pet home to Alaska… I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Substitute Mate’ by Delta James is the 3rd Otter Cove book and it’s awesomely beautiful. Mischa has a very definite ideal mate: perfect lineage and a dire wolf. Simone has never shifted, she is a talented vinter, and has an Eurasian lynx. This couple fits In so well with the residents of this region. Delta writes fated mates and shifters with such great narrative and dialogue that it feels real, spicy, and heart warming.
Simone is feisty but caring, fierce but soft hearted, and she’s a vixen just waiting for her mate. Mischa is an intelligent man, protective, and deliciously dirty with a primal need for his mate. I love how patient he is and how responsive she is to his needs. Their relationship is joyful to watch and I loved seeing Colby. The secrets, danger, and growing awareness of the malice from the Shadow League makes each book incredibly interesting and compelling!

This is one of those books that grabbed my attention instantly. I read it from start to finish in one sitting. Misha is all about the bloodlines and keeping his pure by aligning himself with the “right” pedigree of mate. His pack tries to dissuade him from this and to wait for his fated mate. He refused to listen until he traveled to meet his bride for the first time and sees her sister, as soon as he sees her he realises that she’s his mate and all his plans for his bloodline are out the window. This book is entertaining, I love Misha’s rapid fall from pragmatic to head over heels in love. This book also has so much mystery- what’s with Simone’s amulet and why does she need to wear it. As I said, brilliant book and I couldn’t put it down. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series. I received this book from BookSirens. I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I've always enjoyed Delta James books and I'm not sorry I read this one, but the plot felt a bit lazy to me. The dialogue in the first third of the book was somewhat stilted before finding its stride and while I liked the characters, the FMC had a complete angry meltdown on her second day of meeting the MMC which I didn't understand at all. I get she'd be overwhelmed, but why angry? Her character seemed a bit shy and withdrawn, so it seemed forced to me and poorly explained. Regardless of all that, it was a pleasant, short story for a few hours of escape and while I probably won't read the other books in the series, if you're looking for a quick read with low angst and an HEA, you could do worse than this one.
