Snow Days With You

Rate this book
When Luna Rowntree gets an unexpected and life-changing legacy from a man she’s never met, she’s determined to find out why – even if it is Christmas Day and her family are expecting her.

So, with only her mother’s ashes for company – it’s a long story, but Luna knows her mother would have wanted to come on the adventure too – Luna sets off in her trusty Astra to the skiing resort in Chamonix, where her mysterious benefactor had lived.

But her little car isn’t designed for driving through snow-covered mountains, and when she runs out of fuel heart-breakingly close to Chamonix, Luna is relieved to be saved by her very own knight-in-shining armour. Well, knight in mountain rescue uniform anyway.

Yannick is charmed if baffled by Luna’s mission, and before he knows it, he has agreed to help. But Yannick has his own secrets calling him from the mountains, and his own reasons to run away. As he helps Luna understand her past he realises he has to face his as well if he’s ever going to risk opening his heart to love.

Curl up with Leonie Mack’s new winter romance. Perfect for fans of Mandy Baggot, Jo Thomas and Sarah Morgan.

Luna & Yannick
Luna heads to France in search of information as to why a man she doesn't know left his money to her. Her mother has passed, so she can't ask the urn of ashes along for the ride.

Yannick is a trained mountain rescuer, so he's happy to help out an out of towner when she runs out of gas. We tag along on some of his rescues, too.

I try not to let a narrator sway my rating as I like to base my thoughts on the actual story, but I feel like I just might have enjoyed this a little better had I read it. (More on that below.) Or perhaps not because I wasn't really feeling the chemistry with them. Maybe because it was a super slow burn on the romance front and more about finding out who left her the loot. I did like the friendship Luna made with Sylvia and the grief Yannick was feeling felt relatable.

It's a wintery, not a Christmasy, read and the atmosphere was spot on. I had to listen while I was snuggled in my blankie with my fuzzie socks on because I could just feel how cold it was there. The cover is adorable, too.

Narration notes:
Double whammy ~ Karen is British and doing French accents, so my American ears struggled to stay focused.

Luna Rowntree has recently lost her mother and now feels alone. When she receives a healthy insurance payment from a man she doesn't know, she knows she needs to find out about him. She heads to Chamonix, where the mysterious benefactor lived, in her trusty Astra with her mother's ashes. With her car not used to driving through snow, and not knowing the area, she runs out of gas, finds out she needs different tires and ends up staying long after she thought she would head home. She meets Yannick, a handsome and rugged member of the rescue team, and he becomes her guide and friend. It turns out her knew Robert and with his help, she eventually finds out all she needed to know.

This is only the second book I have read by Leonie Mack, but I will be checking out her backlist. Her writing is beautiful with wonderful descriptions of the area. The characters were well-developed and I wanted to meet Luna and Yannick as well as the many secondary characters. The town sounded lovely with close relationships and friendly inhabitants. The story of Luna's quest captured my interest and I was cheering from the sidelines that she would find out more. The mystery of the bequest merged with her questions about her family, especially her father. Although not overwhelming Luna's story or search, the romance was lovely. Both Luna and Yannick were hurt and carrying baggage from previous relationships, so it was great to see their friendship grow and blossom into an eventual romantic relationship. Themes in this book include grief, friendship, risks, determination, loss, survival guilt, family, secrets and their results as well as romance. I enjoyed this story and recommend it.

Despite the snowy cover and the mention of Christmas Day, this isn’t a festive read – a surprise perhaps, but most certainly not a disappointment. Instead it’s the most wonderfully told story of Luna’s need to uncover the source of an unexpected insurance windfall, abandoning her family’s Christmas plans to drive to Chamonix – the only clue she has to her mysterious benefactor – in a car with a dodgy fuel gauge and her mother’s ashes on the back seat.

As she follows every possible lead, she finds a friend and comfortable place to stay, a temporary job as an English teacher with the mountain rescue team, and a wholly unexpected romance. Her discoveries bring some real surprises, driven by her need to find out about her mother’s past – and she needs to face up to her grief and fear, finding a level of bravery and determination she never knew she possessed, tackling the danger of the unpredictable elements and challenging terrain, to reach an understanding of the full story.

I’ve very much enjoyed every book Leonie Mack has written, but I really thought this one took her into a new league – a romance that was so very real, between two damaged individuals who were quite perfectly written and entirely relatable, coupled with the most wonderful descriptions of the dramatic setting, and an exciting story with so many moments that had my heart in my mouth and made the book impossible to set aside. Her research is impeccable too – I learned a tremendous amount about the daily challenges faced by the mountain rescue team and the difficult decisions they sometimes have to make. Her emotional touch is absolutely perfect, the storytelling entirely compelling – and everything is just so perfectly paced, with quieter moments and time to relax, and touches of perfectly judged humour. I’m not a skier, but really loved Luna’s early attempts – and could feel her total exhilaration when she reached that level of competence she really needed to continue her journey.

The whole book was an exceptional read – an original plot, compelling and exciting, extremely moving, characters with real depth and development, a romance I really believed in, a setting brought vividly to life, and a mystery to explore that kept its secrets until the very end. I couldn’t recommend it more highly – and I know you’re going to love this one as much as I did!

I thought this was a really fascinating premise to explore in a novel – what would you do if you received a mysterious windfall in the will of a complete stranger? Would you just take the money and thank your luck or would you try and find out who they were? I think my insatiable curiosity would lead me down the second path, and so I was with Luna from the start of this book, although I’m not sure I’d leave my family at Christmas to do it!

The alpine regions of France are not areas I know at all, although I have been skiing a few times in my past, so I was excited to be exploring the setting with Leonie as I know she always manages to bring her settings to life and this time is no different. As soon as she starts describing the mountainous town of Chamonix and the imposing peaks surrounding it, you can see it in your mind’s eye and imagine how the locals live and what a tight knit community it is when extreme weather and danger are always on the periphery of their lives. A perfect way to introduce a brave and dashing love interest in the form of a mountain rescue gendarme!

I think this is one of the most affecting books I have read by Leonie, which is saying something as I have loved them all so far. I could really feel the need in Luna to find out why she had been left this money and what the benefactor was to her. Her need to understand following the loss of her mother is completely relatable and her emotions spoke to me, I was with her completely throughout. Similarly, Yannick’s losses made sense in driving him and drawing him to Luna. Not very far in to the book I cared about them both deeply and was very invested in their stories and a happy outcome.

This book is an absolutely perfect example in its genre. Leonie has her craft down to a fine art at this stage and is adept at drawing the reader in with imaginative plot, sympathetic characters, beautiful and exquisitely crafted settings, and real emotional development and connections throughout the story. The book carried me easily through from beginning to end, I was completely absorbed and sorry when it was over. If you like this type of travel romance, you can’t do better. Highly recommended.

This book pulled me in right from the very beginning and i loved getting to know all of the characters, they were all so down to earth and real.

I loved this story and loved being immersed in all it’s snowy goodness…..

This is a superb winter romance, which I loved and adored! The story is about a woman called Luna who travels to Chamonix with her mother's ashes, to find out more about the man who left her an inheritance. While there, she meets a man called Yannick, who helps her in a lot of different ways. Together they find out the secrets of her past, which then leads to a close friendship and perhaps a bit more!

I loved this book so much, and I recommend it highly! It is amazing and I loved the writing, the descriptions, the adventure, the destination, the characters, the story and the romance. All of it was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I hate leaving negative reviews of books because I know the authors put a lot of work into the books. But unfortunately, this book was absolutely boring to me. I've never read this author before, so maybe I just didn't know what to expect. I honestly questioned if I even read the same book as everyone else.

To start with, it's 40 chapters, each taking about 9 mins to read for me (and I'm a fast reader who reads 250 books a years...). A book this length is absolutely fine, as long as there's a plot that keeps you engaged, and that wasn't the case. I actually started this book, almost decided to DNF, but instead just stopped 50% into it because nothing was happening and read 2 other books before coming back to this one in hopes it would get better. There's just not a lot that actually happens in the first 3.5 hours of reading to justify a book that length.

I didn't get interested in the plot until the last few chapters where we finally see that Yannick has a personality and isn't just a droid with no outward emotion. The romance isn't there at all until those last 2 chapters. Up until that point it's more chick lit with Luna finding herself and learning about her history. I felt no chemistry between them and can't fathom how they managed to fall in love with Yannick was so closed off 99% of the book and Luna had one foot out the door on the way back to a job she's not really wanting and a house she may or may not want to buy in order to live out her mom's dream for her. It was all just a 'not so hot' mess (because even the 'hot' scenes that could have added some passion were vague and essentially closed door).

This book takes place in France, so there's a lot of French phrases the author includes, some translated, some not. So as an American, I found myself using my Kindle Translate to figure out the ones I didn't already know.

Maybe this is a 'it's me, not you' thing and you'll enjoy this. I don't know. It just wasn't for me at all and I'm so glad to be done with it.

Quick Summary: A very French, very BBCish wo-fi romance

My Review: Snow Days With You by Leonie Mack was written with a definite European slant. It was as serious as a stiff upper lip.

About the Book: A woman who recently lost her mother discovers that her life is not at all what it seems. She sets out on a quest to learn more about herself, her mother, her past, and her benefactor. Along the way, she falls in love with a man who risks life and limb to help others.

My Final Say: This book was okay. I desperately wanted to love it, but I did not. I don’t know if “like” is the right word to use either. It was tolerable. The setting and the tracing back of the past aspects of the story were nicely done. It was the romance that was lacking. There was no chemistry whatsoever. It doesn’t matter that the leads were written with shared intimacies of sorts. They were so robotic. The thing that stood out most to me about this story is that both leads were afraid to live. When they finally gave way and had courage enough to try, then growth and partnership came.

Other: Some readers will like this novel. It’s, honestly, a toss up, in my opinion. There is certainly something to the story, however, I struggled with it, in the sense that I was waiting for it to pickup in terms of the relationship/romance.

Special Note: The dangerous aspect of the MMC’s job was exciting, at times.

Leonie Mack - Snow Days With You.

Pop on your winter woolies and join Leonie Mack for a little jaunt in the winter snow that will take you to snow capped mountains of Chamonix in France.

Luna is on a mission to discover the identity of a mystery benefactor, who has left her a very generous and unexpected bequest. But who are they and why have they left this gift to Luna?

There is of course a brooding hottie gracing the pages of this lovely book. Yannik is part of the mountain rescue team, but this hero of the hills has his own secrets that are weighing him down.

Yannik and Luna keep crossing paths and despite them being quite different people, something sparks between them.

#SnowDaysWithYou is a charming story, with some twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting.

Leonie Mack clearly describes the beautiful setting of a stunning winter wonderland.

The story is a slow burn, but there is drama a plenty with the mountain rescue team. And also the mystery of Luna’s benefactor to be uncovered.
So you will want to keep turning those pages.

Leonie Mack has written another stunner.
#SnowDaysWithYou is a captivating winter tale. You might have chilly extremities, but your heart will be well and truly warmed and squeezed with this glorious read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Snow Days With You is a lovely gem of a story. Although the story begins on Christmas Day, this is not a 'Christmas book'. Instead, the tale begins on Christmas Day and unfolds gradually over the winter. Luna and Yannick are both dealing with grief - Luna has recently lost her mother and Yannick has lost a good friend. Luna has travelled to Chamonix to unravel a mystery - she has received an insurance pay out from a stranger and she doesn't know why, or what the link is between herself and her benefactor! As she unravels the mystery with Yannick's help, they both begin to heal and bond. Although there are no surprising plot twists here, this is a thoroughly enjoyable story which I thoroughly recommend.

My Love, My Human.

Very possibly one of my favorites of 2023, this age gap, grumpy x sunshine romance pits a young British teacher with a jaded rescuerer together as she tries to learn more about her mysterious father after receiving an unexpected inheritance. Good on audio, this book delivers all the feels with a heartwarming romance and was a surprise delight. I absolutely could NOT get enough of this story and can't recommend it enough!!

The meet cute in this book was so cute and funny. It immediately made me love Yannick. The story was interesting. It was about more than just the romance. Luna is trying to find answers after she receives an inheritance from a man she has never heard of. As she discovers more about the man, she always learns more about herself and her mom who passed a little before. Luna's journey gives you all the emotions. It was such a good story. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

Snow Days With You written by Leonie Mack was so cute and snowy, but so cozy at the same time. When I saw the cover for this book, I thought it was going to be cute and warm my heart, but I was completely wrong. Snow Days With You broke my heart in more than one way. Leonie Mack has a way of writing characters that are so relatable and real that you can't help but root for them. I have read one other book by this author before, but I didn't like it at all, so when I saw she had a Christmas book coming out I knew I needed to get my hands on it asap, and I'm so happy I did because it was just a beautiful story that broke my heart, I truly loved this book way more than the first one I read by this author. Grab yourself this book, a cup of hot chocolate, warm baggy clothes, and a fuzzy blanket because this book will chill your heart. I absolutely adored that the characters weren't perfect, they were deeply flawed and that made them seem real and relatable. Have you ever let your curiosity get the best of you and made rational decisions? I know I have, sometimes they aren't the best decisions, but sometimes they are truly the best decisions you have ever made. I can't recommend this snowy book enough, please do yourself a favor and grab a copy immediately.

THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND BOLDWOOD BOOKS FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!

Luna Rowntree has recently lost her mom and hasn't felt more alone in this world. When Luna receives a healthy insurance payment from a man she doesn't know, Luna knows she needs to meet this man immediately. Without her mom, Christmas is the hardest for Luna, so she heads to Chamonix where this mysterious benefactor has lived. With her trusty Astra, Luna heads to Chamonix with her mom's ashes in the backseat, but when Luna starts her journey, things don't go as planned. Luna's Astra doesn't have a very trustworthy gas gauge, she needs new tires for her car because her old ones can't get her to where she needs to be. When Luna runs out of gas, she meets Yannick. Yannick is a handsome and rugged member of the rescue team and becomes Luna's friend and tour guide. I loved Yannick and Luna so much, they weren't perfect at all, they both had baggage from past relationships. With Yannick's help, Luna finds out all she needs to know. Yannick had this type of personality that was like a warm hug to my heart, he was sweet, helpful, and often made hilarious jokes. Luna and Yannick are the type of characters that I will never forget, the only thing Yannick needed was tattoos. With Yannick's help, he and Luna become close friends, but he has some of his own emotional baggage to deal with before he can open up his heart to Luna.

Snow Days with You is an interesting and emotional romance that is hard to put down.

This book is perfect for those readers who want to read something set during winter but doesn’t revolve around Christmas. This book gives off those wonderful snowy vibes without all that Christmas hoopla. I loved, loved this book. It was so engaging. I wanted to keep reading because I felt so invested in the story. Leonie took the story in a direction I wasn’t expecting, which I loved. It’s not too often that a romance book surprises me. The overall story is so fascinating. First, you have this mystery surrounding Robert, who has passed away and has left money to Luna. Luna has set out on this quest to figure out who this man is and his connection to her. Her journey to figuring out who Robert is was emotional and engaging. And as Luna is on this journey, you see this growth in her character. She grows more confident in herself and finally feels like she belongs somewhere.

We also got to explore the world of Gendarmerie (which is the mountain rescue service in France), which was fascinating and emotional. The whole Gendarmerie aspect of this story surprised me (in a good way). I loved getting to spend time with the Gendarmerie and watching them work. Spending time with them was an emotional roller coaster ride. There were so many highs and lows, and I loved every moment. I finished this book feeling like I learned something, which I always love.

The romance between Luna and Yannick is a sweet, sweet, slow burn. For readers who want to read a cozy story but want to avoid being inundated with cheesy romance, then this book will be for you. A lot of the time Luna and Yannick spend together isn’t romantic in nature. Yannick sets out to train Luna to climb a mountain, which connects to her quest to find more about Robert. I loved watching these two interact. There was something real about their growing relationship. I wanted to keep on reading because I wanted to see what their next exchange would look like.

Snow Days with You is a fabulous winter romance that will capture your heart and your attention.

Snow Days With You is a sweet, slow-burn romance that left me with a cozy feeling. It takes place in Chamonix amidst the snow-covered mountains of France, which was an amazing, beautiful setting. There's a lot of French dialog throughout the book, but it's done in a way that makes the setting feel more authentic. I don't know French and didn't have any issues since most of it was translated or could be figured out from context.

The story's main characters are Luna and Yannick. Most of the book follows Luna's point of view but some parts follow Yannick, which I liked so I could see his perspective as well. On the surface, these characters seem completely different from each other: Luna has lived a very sheltered, safe life, while Yannick works as part of a rescue team for the mountains, traversing dangerous terrain that they must access by helicopter. But the characters are also both dealing with a lot of grief from losing loved ones and the ending of serious relationships. Luna travels to Chamonix after she receives a large insurance payout from a man she didn't know, and it's almost like fate with how Luna and Yannick's paths keep crossing with each other. I liked these characters, and I thought they really brought something good out of each other.

The story has a sense of mystery to it, as Luna is trying to figure out why she was the benefactor of the money and also discovering things about her late mother that she never knew. That part of the story took some turns I wasn't expecting, so it kept things interesting. There was also an "air of excitement" with mountain rescues and mountain climbing being a major theme.

Character development over the course of the story was huge. It was almost like the Luna at the end was a different person from the Luna at the beginning. And Yannick grew over the course of the story as well. The book kept me immersed and interested. I would love to read more books by Leonie Mack now that I've had a chance to read one!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the free advance copy of Snow Days With You! My review is my own honest opinion of the book.

Having lived in a ski resort for a number of years, this one really appealed to me, and I loved every moment of it. Leonie Mack absolutely captured the essence of that lifestyle, and I could almost hear the mountains in the background. My most vivid memories of that time relate to the scenery, and whilst my views weren’t of the French Alps, I could definitely empathise with the scenes described.
Luna was an ideal lead character as she nursed her mother’s ashes and tried to mend her broken heart. Her determination to learn more about her benefactor was a commendable trait and it leant substance to her unwillingness to spend any of her legacy until she’d discovered more about his motivation. Her story arc was truly mesmerising as she emerged into her newfound lifestyle.
As the story guides us through Luna’s exploration of Chamonix, the descriptions of the scenery and accounts of her adventures are a white-knuckle ride. At one point, I genuinely gasped at the sheer scale of the scenes being described. Watch out for the scale of the mountains and their vertiginous drops. Breathtaking!
Yannick was picture perfect. When I say that, I could easily picture him from the details that the author included, right down to the array of carabiners attached to his belt. Despite also being slightly damaged by life, his character brought a steady hand to Luna’s disarray. I could go on and on, but I avoid spoilers and need to leave it there.
Despite the title and cover, you may be surprised to discover that this isn’t a Christmas story. Yes, it starts during the season of goodwill, but it soon moves on into the following year. As much as I love Christmas books, I was far from disappointed because I honestly think that Snow Days with You is an outstanding book. The depth of research is immediately obvious, and I was totally absorbed by the story. I’ve loved so many of her earlier stories, but this book is a league above. Totally tremendous.

Give me a minute for my heart rate to return to normal, for a fair bit of this book is filled with so much scary drama, that I was totally caught up and wouldn't have been able to put the book down for anything.

After all this is a book featuring a mountain rescue team, in Chamonix, so some drama is potentially to be expected.

And boy does it deliver not only on that front, but also on an amazing setting, and with a story that has some many layers to uncover and discover.

I feel as though there is a new element or depth to Leonie Mack's writing in this book, which has made it even more spectacular and gripping than her previous books (which I also loved).

There is the mystery of just why Luna was left some money, why it seems as though her mother had lived in Chamonix for a bit, despite never mentioning it to Luna, and then Yannick is also hiding things too and struggling to move on with his own life.

Despite the mention of Christmas Day in the blurb, and the fact the book has been released in peak festive reading season - this isn't to my surprise in any way shape or form a Christmas book - it starts on Christmas day, but the story is set predominately in the first few months of the New Year, and is a winter romance, rather than a festive one. Which took me by surprise.

And wow mountain rescuers are hot! And learning about the dangers of the mountain was fascinating, as was seeing Luna's first attempts at skiing and climbing.

I was hooked on everything to do with this book, and couldn't devour it fast enough. It's wonderful and I absolutely adored Luna and Yannick and their story.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I think I’ve just discovered my favorite romance writer. After enjoying My Christmas Number One, I tried another wintry title, Snow Days with You. Both books sparkled with believable characters and enough technical and emotional details about their work to be both believable and informative. In Snow Days, Luna is on a mission in the French Alps, to discover more about the mysterious benefactor who left a large amount of insurance money to her. She’s not the type to take the money and run, and we find out why as the plot unfolds.

She’s not prepared for mountain winters, and not terribly good with directions. Luckily, she accidentally encounters a handsome mountain rescuer, barely off duty. He helps her out, and they part. But they will encounter one another again, of course.

In her quest to find the man who might or might not be her father, she carries her recently departed mother’s ashes for comfort. This turns out to be illegal in France. With the help of an eccentric crystal shop owner who gives her a crystal and a place to live, the search for the benefactor begins. And the saga of the romance.

The descriptions of the mountains, the weather, and the charming tourist town were captivating, the details of mountain climbing and rescue interesting. The characters have depth and individuality. Even Luna’s conservative mother has some secrets that get uncovered.

Karen Cass reads the audiobook brilliantly, including the French dialog. Luna’s career of teaching French to English students cleverly folds into a method of translating most, but not all of the French lines.

Recommended for winter reading!

First thought: This is a cute destination read that emerges you into the French Alps! You get to become part of the rescue squad and see the magic and sadness that draws in the alpinists to the mountain. This is a great read that shows the power of love and duty.

Luna received a mysterious lump sum payout after the death of a man she doesn’t know. Her only clue is a picture of her mom on skies on the slopes of Chamonix. Feeling lost after her mom’s death she decides on Christmas to hunt for clues into how this man was connected to her. This lands Luna in a charming town in the French Alps. The last thing she expected was a whirlwind adventure, falling in love with the mountain, learning about the deep rooted sense of duty and a romance with a hunky rescuer.

Yannick is a divorced single dad who works for mountain rescue, his life goal is to leave no one behind on the mountain. He is a hero and protector and has been struggling since his last big call meant the loss of his friend Jim after an accident on the glacier. His new mission is to help Luna find the connection between her and Jim. Hoping this will help lessen his own grief. But as he teaches Luna about the mountain Jim loved he’s finding himself falling for her.

This is an adorable story about romance, letting go, trust, duty and living the life you want.

Tropes you’ll find:

* Secret Past
* Hero MMC
* Overcoming Grief
* Mountaineering Adventure
* Destination Read: French Alps
* Dual POV

At the start of the novel, we meet 30-year-old Luna Rowntree. It’s Christmas Day and she’s in Chamonix. After being left a large amount of money from a man she’s never heard of, she has gone to France to try to find out more. There she meets Yannick who is 38 and works for Mountain Rescue.
I don’t want to tell you anything else about the plot, because I recommend you all read it and find out for yourselves.
This was such a good book! I was hooked straight away and interested by Luna’s story and what she might discover in France. I love romance novels, but this had an added appeal of a mystery too, which took it to another level.
Yannick is such a sweetheart and I loved the relationship he had with his young daughter. There are lots of other great characters too. Silvia was another of my favourites.
It’s very atmospheric with lots of snow and mountains, plenty of skiing and cold. (It would be an ideal book to read in a heatwave, as I’m sure it would make you feel colder!) While I was less interested in the skiing parts (I’ve never been skiing), I loved all the French language bits, as I studied French and it was nice to test it out a bit – but, don’t worry, everything is explained if you don’t know any French. It was fascinating to learn more about the PGHM and mountain rescue too. It is obvious a lot of research has been done to make this feel so authentic.

Snow Days With You is a wonderful wintry read, a slow burn romance with a sense of mystery, one of my favourite kind of romances. I loved the romance so much it left me feeling so warm and cozy amongst the snow capped mountains of France. I’ve not been to France but Leonie’s wonderful writing definitely made me want to visit.

I loved the fact that though theirs is blossoming love (Yannick and Luna) that it is still the main reason for Luna’s journey that strays the main focus for the story and Luna. Yannick made such a gorgeous knight in shining mountain uniform and I loved his opening up to love, as well as his scenes with his daughter, made me melt so much, very emotional.

The story took some turns I definitely didn’t expect and I love it when an author does that , the sense of mystery and adventure is so good, mixed in with the themes of mountain rescues made it so interesting and exciting. I also loved the use of French within the book, it’s done so well and makes the book feel much more authentic

If you’re looking for a story that will grab you, take hold of your heart and not let it go, has humour, heartache, slow burn romance, adventure and tension, this is definitely the book for you.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

In my notes for this book, I must have used “sweet” a million times. But to be clear: This is NOT a twee or sickly book. The central couple’s slow journey to each other is so affecting (my eyes, they were misty) that I didn’t even mind—much—that there wasn’t even a kiss until 61% despite the fact that there was literally THE perfect setting available (helicopter; I will say no more).

The setting is what really kept me reading, however. Luna, a Brit, travels to Chamonix in France to investigate why a stranger left a huge amount of money to her. She ends up teaching an English class for a group of secouristes—first responders who conduct search and rescue operations in the Alps. One of them is Yannick, a shy, somewhat brooding but charming divorced father who ends up helping Luna on her quest.

Part of that involves Luna learning how to ski and climb in icy conditions, and Yannick ends up being the perfect teacher. Of course, they both learn about themselves along the way, because romance.

I would have loved for Luna and Yannick to be fleshed out a little more as characters; they were both so retiring that sometimes I felt like I didn’t have a handle on them at all. And it was a little too much of a slow burn for me given the actual love scenes were brief.

But it was a really immersive book and emotionally rich, too. Glad I picked it up on a whim.

🌬🏔Mystery & mountain danger mix with romance🚁

Snow Days with You had a good storyline and I especially liked the mystery that Luna came from Britain to Chamonix to unravel. The longer she searches for the reason a stranger left her a major insurance legacy, the more she learns about a past tightly linked to Chamonix that her recently deceased mother never shared with her. But the romance was great too. Luna is entranced by a policeman's smile from her first moments after arrival and the romance that follows builds slowly. The whole novel is really a study in Luna pushing out and overcoming her insecurities and "can't" attitude to gain self confidence and go for what she wants.

Author Leonie Mack either did a lot of research or has spent a lot of time in the Mont Blanc area of eastern France. The detail about the alpine topography, mountain rescue and mountaineering lost me sometimes but it's a key part of the story. And Mack's description of the majestic mountain landscape made me want to see it in person, though maybe not in mid-winter!

Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

This book was a festive feast from the first chapter. I felt for Luna as soon as she arrived in Chamonix, alone and totally unprepared for the alpine weather, on a mission to find out about her mysterious benefactor.

Fate led her to Sylvia’s shop, where she soon found herself welcomed, and by helping her new friend with some English lessons, she also finds a purpose to stay, and the opportunity to meet people who could assist her on her enquiry. She has a lot to learn about the harsh reality of life in the mountains and the perilous work of the Gendarme rescue squad, but she soon finds herself embraced by their community.

Yannick had an air of sadness about him that tugged at my heartstrings, and I enjoyed discovering his story almost as much as I did the unravelling of Luna’s mysterious past.

This is a winter romance with a difference as it is not just set in a ski resort, it takes you to the heart of the mountains and the people who risk their lives to keep others safe. There is adrenalin, fear, and heart stopping emotions in this book, but the humour and warmth of the romance bubbling away under the layers of warm clothing, kept me turning the pages.

If you love the mountains in winter, treat yourself to Snow Days With You as I am sure you will enjoy it.

Audiobook version.

Leonie Mack and Karen Cass (narrator) are such a great pairing!! Leonie’s books are so full of beautiful descriptive scenery and culture and Karen brings it to life!

Another lovely listen (read) of Leonie’s books. I truly love that her books are based in beautiful European places and she clearly does so so much research of the area, the people, the culture and the language before writing these lovely stories. From the other side of the world in Australia, I really feel like I’m there on a European getaway. She even clearly researches the ‘trades’ of her main characters, I have learnt so much about many different vocations from her books. I also love the dual point of view, it’s nice to hear the male characters perspective and Karen Cass does male voices and accents so well.

The story line was intriguing and not just about the budding romance, and I really enjoyed a little bit of mystery about the past.

This is one of those books that I’m sure would be enjoyable to read in the paper form, but if you’re looking for a little escapism while you’re on the commute to work or walking the dog, this one is easy to get swept up in as an audio book.

Another smash hit from Leonie!!

Luna is feeling lost after her mother dies and heads out to Chamonix to find out more about the mysterious man who died and named her as the beneficiary of his life insurance payout.

When she meets Yannick, one of the Chamonix mountain rescue gendarmes, she's immediately intrigued by him and finds herself drawn into his world.

Meticulously researched and richly detailed this is a dedication to those who risk their lives to save others in the mountains and the impact it has on their loved ones.

I didn't want this book to end!!! I was on the edge of my seat during some of the mountain climbing scenes and the blossoming relationship between Luna and Yannick was beautiful.

Luna is an incredibly brave heroine who finds her feet (and her crampons) and Yannick is a reluctant hero, who quietly and selflessly helps her to achieve her goals.

I felt all the feelings with this one, it was funny and sad and steamy and bittersweet. I cannot recommend it enough!

An unexpected legacy from someone she doesn't know
Has Luna Rowntree deciding she needs to go
So off to Chamonix she sets off hoping to find
Why someone she doesn't know was so kind.

Running out of petrol, really wasn't on her plans at all
And marooned in the mountains she isn't sure who to call!
Yannick, a mountain rescue man, comes to her aid
And volunteers to help her as more plans are made.

No one seems to have heard of the man she's searching for
But folks are friendly and there are many to adore.
The story of her quest, the setting and the mystery, too,
Make this a brilliant read with so many surprises going through.

I really enjoyed this beautiful read, characters and escapades, too,
As well as the crystals, the mountains and new things she learnt to do.
A moving story of searching for secrets from the past
Before moving on to a new future that will hopefully last.

For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
Such an enthralling read and this is my honest review.
