Inside Seka

Rate this book
"The Mount Rushmore of Adult Entertainment has four John Holmes, Marilyn Chambers, Jenna Jameson, and Seka. That's it; there ain't no more." - Bill Margold, famed adult film actor, agent, producer, director, and activist Seka-The Platinum Princess, the Marilyn Monroe of Porn, the queen of XXX cinema's Golden Age, and John Holmes' favorite leading lady. Seka is a legendary performer in the annals of adult cinema, and many would say the greatest. Seka's name was so big in XXX that her name above the title was not enough-her name had to be in the title!  Seka's real life story, though, is as enigmatic as her screen persona. She was never a victim-on-screen or off. This is no tale of remorse, abuse, or self-destructive behavior. Seka was post-feminist before the term was born. Inside Seka is the story of a survivor, a trailblazer, and an icon-still one of the most popular and famous porn stars ever; the last of the natural beauties. "Before the Jennas, the Bree Olsons, or the Savannas, the undisputed blonde bombshell of XXX movies was Seka, which makes her story so important in the history of adult entertainment." - Ron Jeremy, porn legend, holder of the Guinness Book of World Records for "Most Appearances in Adult Films". "From calling the shots in a film genre in the days when it was completely controlled by men, to standing and being heard at the infamous Meese Commission, Seka shatters the myth of the poor little victim who lost her way. Don't expect excuses and apologies. This is one blonde bombshell who lives by her own rules." - Candida Royalle, author, entrepreneur, and erotic film pioneer "She was one of the hottest girls in the XXX business, able to seduce any man she wanted. So it should come as no surprise that her story is riveting." - Larry Flynt, Hustler magazine Kerry Zukus is the author, co-author, or ghostwriter of over 40 books, including From Harvard to Hell and Back, the upcoming Inside the Hotel Rwanda, and Book of the Month Club Feature Selection The Fourth House.

The first thing I noticed when I started reading Inside Seka: The Platinum Princess of Porn was that Seka, a veteran of the 1970’s and 1980’s world of Adult films (a.k.a. Pornography) tells her story with a strong, confident, unapologetic voice, that is consistent throughout the entire autobiography. The second thing I noted was that it was a refreshing and likeable voice.

Whether you are a fan of Adult Cinema or not, the lure of an insider’s account into this world is pretty hard to resist; what we’re secretly hoping for is a tale so outrageous and full of perversion that we’ll be shocked, and as such, able to cast our high falutin’ moral opinions on the players and feel better about ourselves for doing so (Let’s face it, some of us are also secretly hoping to see a car crash when we go to the races). Seka does not allow this. Hers is not a tale of some abusive childhood that damaged her to the point she decided to become an Adult Actress, simply because she had no respect for herself. We do discover that she and her siblings were abandoned by their mother as children, but that Seka, despite that, did have loving relatives, and a Father that still managed to stay in her life and show her the value of family and love. No, Seka, who was a virgin until she was first married at 18, sort of fell into the Adult Film Industry, without all the negative stereotypical stories we’re often led to believe.

In telling her story, warts and all, Seka points out that when she could – namely when men who were supposed to be looking after her interests as husbands, lovers or friends weren’t leeching off of her – she took control of her career and in doing so paved the way for many actresses that followed her. Seka was a trailblazer in demanding proper pay for her services, insisting she only work with whom she wished, and not doing anything she wasn’t comfortable with on-screen. She worked at a time when adult films were shot on film, and the community of actors was smaller. Hers is an interesting story told without apologies. She knows what she did for a living, she knows how many in society shun it, but is not going to apologize for what she did – and, let’s face it, she really doesn’t have to.

If you’re looking for racy stuff, it’s not here. Actually, based on what I’ve read about the industry, especially during its hey-day, it was all about making money. I’d be willing to bet, that an actress like Marilyn Monroe and others like her faced more casting couches and lecherous producers, directors, actors and studio heads in her climb to the top and effort to stay there, than any of these actresses that worked in the adult film industry.

Inside Seka: The Platinum Princess of Porn is a good read; I found myself enjoying it, and respecting the author for her candidness in telling her tale. I tend to find adult films repetitive and boring, and will not be seeking out any of Seka’s film work after having read her autobiography, but that really isn’t necessary to appreciate this literary offering.

An autobiography definitely worth reading.

Good quick read and very well written. Book is not about the adult film industry, but rather the life of an adult film star and her trials and tribulations.

The Adult Film Industry does not seem to define the woman as much as it was an intricate part of her life story.

She has done so much more in her life than just making "Porn Flicks", and paved the way for many adult "so called Porn stars of today". There are very few real stars in the business, but SEKA certainly qualifies.

Great forward by Jim Norton/ hilarious.

What an Inspirational book this is by Seka. She opens her Heart up to all about her Life from Childhood to becoming The Most Famous Adult Film SuperStar in the World, and all of the ups and downs she had to endure to reach this Goal...What a Remarkable Woman, and what an Absolutely Wonderful Story of her life' Journey...A Great Read. I could not put it down once I started reading it.

Epic tits and tit talk. Seka says nothing bad happened to her that led to her fuckin' on film. But her family abandoned her when she was a little kid so it was probably that. She seems pretty down to earth and frank. I love how much she likes Chicago blues, that she sold hot dogs at home depot and could have gotten on Stevie Ray Vaughn's ill-fated helicopter flight but didn't.

MY GRADE: A

MY THOUGHTS: Seka (Dorothiea 'Dottie' Hundley) is very honest and blunt. She's not very humble and is a touch arrogant when it comes to her looks and popularity. Despite that I like her a lot. She was a true porn star in the seventies through the mid-80's. Her career came to a halt when AIDS came on the scene heavily. She wanted to use condoms but the production companies didn't want to so she left but ended up making a few more films after that. She was never very responsible with her finances.

Her life has been pretty interesting. I got a bit tired of hearing about the nonporn celebrities she's met over the years. She's childless and has been happily married to Carl, husband number two, since the 2000's. She didn't mentioned why she never had kids. Did she just never want any or did she never find the right man to settle down with? She didn't say.

There are many black and white photos peppered throughout the book including a few topless ones. Thankfully she never got implants. She did have three breast lifts.

She did an interview to promote her book in September 2013. There's more info about her films here.

I received this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Most guys of my generation have at least heard of Seka, and many have seen her videos. This book tells more about her than I ever really wanted to know, but it was interesting and I'm glad about the happy ending.
