Couldn't finish -- pet peeve with characters descriptions
After reading this author's book, A Twist of Hate, I eagerly bought this one as well. The premise for the book was entirely believable: a young woman arrives at the home of a classmate (who's the son of an extremely wealthy man) at the exact moment of his kidnapping and is drugged and taken as well. They bond during their captivity while helping each other survive -- one of them more than the other! I thought that the book was well written and, generally, liked the two main characters, Reese and Christopher. My problem with the book ---and I'll be the first to admit that perhaps it's an overreaction --- lies in the description of Reece -- and to some degree her sisters. In an early chapter of the book, Reece is described as having "big honey-brown eyes" and a "dark bronze complexion" but just a few chapters later I'm reading about "the pink shell of her ear" and her "big blue eyes".....huh?!!! In a photograph of Reece and her sisters, they're described as having various shades of both brunette hair and brown eyes. Later, three of her "blonde" sisters are peeking out of an upstairs window. Aaarrrgghhhh!!!! I was just too through after that -- just couldn't read anymore.
Reece Wyndham was just suppose to drop off Christopher's literature review sheet, and maybe ask Chris if he needs a date to a certain party.... But when she got there, she saw two hooded men dragging him into a van... She run fast but they had seen her and kidnapped her as well.
I love this book. Despite them getting kidnapped and all, instead of wallowing in fear, they found humour in getting to know each other. I love how they've got closer to each other, their spirit in captivity never falter.
The story has drama, humour, suspense and you'll love Reece and Christopher. Couldn't put it down. I hated that it ended so soon...
This is the second book that I’ve read from this author. She’s an amazing storyteller! I want to express so much more but I don’t want to give too much away. Once started reading I couldn’t stop until I finished. The character development is phenomenal. I found myself relating with characters and could feel their internal struggle, and I rejoiced their growth. I highly recommend this book!!
pretty good story. Was great to see Christopher and Reece's connection develop. The escape was a little far fectched but overall it was a well told story
I absolutely adored this book. It's been so long since I've read a Crystal Hubbard book that I'd almost forgotten how well she writes. Her ability to draw you into the story is one that many authors wish they had. This is a new adult novel about a kidnapping, the rescue and the aftermath.
I know I'm being vague, but I just don't want to be a spoiler. The main characters, billionaire heir and spoiled brat, Christopher Daley and super competitive, super smart and practical Reece Wyndham are both very likeable, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once at the dialogue, which is snappy and forthright.
The book is like a roller coaster ride. It starts out with a bang, and Hubbard does an excellent job of keeping up the tension throughout. I LOVED it.
This was one of most compelling kidnapping stories I've read in a while. When a billionaires son is abducted and one of his classmates is caught in the crossfire, the story took on a suspenseful and exhilarating pace with each page. Christopher Daley was known by his fellow classmates as a rich snob. Reece Wyndham secretly had a crush on Christopher, as he felt the same about her. So when he realized Reece was unwillingly and unknowingly thrusts into his nightmare; he chose a most unusual tactic to keep her safe. Once they were rescued the story turned drab and moved at a denser pace, not with as much futilely as before. Some parts were left un- answered to my satisfaction. Overall a good story.
This was the second "Prescott High" book. However, this can be a stand alone book. This was a YA novel that did not patronize the reader.
In general, this book is about two teenagers, Christopher and Reese who are kidnapped and what happens whens after they survive the rescue. I liked this book because you had two people from two walks of life that experienced the same event. How their families attempted to make it better for them. How sometimes the good intentions of others can get in the way of what you need and/or want.
Its a good story. I can't wait for the third installment of the book.
This is my first YA novel by Ms. Hubbard and I really really enjoyed it. Its about two teenagers, Christopher and Reece who are kidnapped and how they survived. The friendship and the attraction that developed between the two main characters during their capture was sweet. I did not want this story to end, I wanted to read more about Christopher and Reece lives after they were rescued. I hope Ms. Hubbard writes a sequel.
Christopher August Daley III goes out of his way to watch over Reese Wyndham when they are kidnapped. Once they are rescued, she is determined to help him get through the healing process.
Crystal Hubbard has a way of pulling the reader into the novel until you could almost experience the emotions going through the characters.
This was pulse pounding action from the word go and it never lets up.This was such an intense story that captures you on so many levels. This was well thought out and executed story with a really good plot. The writer does everything correctly from the beginning to the end. This was an excellent story and very entertaining.
I really enjoyed this book. Tough subject matter, but the characters were well developed. I really felt Reece's strength and Christopher's pain. I liked how their ordeal strengthened their connection. There was a real bond there and I think the author captured it perfectly.
