Set in 1870, the daring explorers from Alex Walker's first novel TOLTEC, embark on another epic adventure, this time on orders from President Ulysses S. Grant. Cousins Simon Murphy and Elijah Walker head up an expedition to Cuzco, Peru to search for a secret treasure sacred to the ancient Incas. Their deadly journey takes them high in the mystical mountains of the lost civilization where they unlock the origins of an alternative history. Combining modern scientific, archeological, and astrological theories, Alex Walker creates an entertaining historical fiction adventure. It's pure escapism and downright fun.
The writing is definitely better than it was in Toltec but once again he brought in a character that had no purpose. Their new guide, didn't even do much guiding and once again you forget he is even in the party.
My biggest complaint with this one is his complete lack of knowledge when it comes to geological processes. "Welding" tectonic plates together will not in anyway prevent an earthquake. I was quite enjoying the book until it reached this point and the ridiculousness of it completely jarred me out of the story and I almost put it down without finishing it.
