About the author

K.P. Purnachandra Tejaswi was a prominent Kannada writer, novelist, photographer, ornithologist, publisher, painter and environmentalist. He made a great impression in the "Navya" period of Kannada literature and and inaugurated the bandaya sahitya.

Tejaswi was born on September 8, 1938. His father is the famous poet, Rashtrakavi Kuvempu. He completed his education in Mysore. Tejaswi has written in almost all forms of literature including poems, short stories, novels, travel literature, plays and science fiction. He has translated several English books to Kannada. His famous translations include the series on Kenneth Anderson's hunting expeditions and Henri Charrière's Papillon.

He has won several awards for his contribution to literature such as the Rajyotsava and Kannada Sahitya Academy awards.

Poornachandra Tejaswi died of cardiac arrest at the age of 69

ಶಿಕಾರಿ ಈಗ ಬಹುತೇಕ ನಿಂತಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಹಳೆಯ ಕಥೆಗಳು ಇಂದಿಗೂ ರೋಚಕವಾಗಿದೆ.ಕೆನ್ನೆತ್ ಆಂಡರ್ಸನ್ ಅವರ ಜೊತೆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುತ್ತಾಡಿ ನರಭಕ್ಷಕ ಹುಲಿಯನ್ನು, ಪುಂಡ ಕರಡಿಯನ್ನು, ಬಾಳೆ ತೋಟದ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯನ್ನು,ಮಾಗಡಿಯ ಚಿರತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವ ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಿಂದ ತೇಜಸ್ವಿಯವರು ನಮಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಎರಡನೇ ಮಹಾಯುದ್ಧದ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಕಥೆಗಳಿವು.ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೆಂತಹ ರೋಚಕತೆ ಇದೆ ಅಂದರೆ, ಕೆನ್ನೆತ್ ಆಂಡರ್ಸನ್ ಅವರು ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಮುಖಾಮುಖಿ ಆದಾಗ ನಾವೂ ಅದರ ಮುಂದೆಯೇ ಇರುವುವೇನೋ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಥ್ರಿಲ್ಲಿಂಗ್ ಅನಿಸುತ್ತೆ.

ನನಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ episode ‘ಬಾಳೆ ತೋಟದ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ’. ಜನರ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನೇ ಬಂಡವಾಳ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕಳ್ಳ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನೂ ಹಾಗೂ ನರಭಕ್ಷಕ ಹುಲಿಯನ್ನೂ ಕೊನೆಗಾಣಿಸುವ ಈ ಕಥೆ ಮುಂದೇನು..ಮುಂದೇನು ಎಂಬ ಕುತೂಹಲವನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ರಾಂಪುರದ ಒಕ್ಕಣ್ಣ - ಈ ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಹೃದಯಸ್ಪರ್ಶಿ ಘಟನೆಯಿದೆ. ಅದೆಂದರೆ, ಒಂಟಿ ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ನರಭಕ್ಷಕನ ಜಾಡು ಹಿಡಿದು ಹೊರಟು ಕಾಡು ಗುಡ್ಡೆ ಹತ್ತಿದ ಕೆನ್ನೆತ್ ರಿಗೆ ಎರಡು ಮುದ್ದಾದ ಹುಲಿ ಮರಿ ಎದುರಾಗಿದ್ದು. ತಾಯಿ ಹುಲಿ ಕೆನ್ನೆತ್ ಗೆ ಏನೂ ತೊಂದರೆ ಕೊಡದೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಓಡಿಸಿದ್ದು.ಈ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ನೀವು ಊಹಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿ ! ಓದಿದ್ದರೆ ನಿಮಗೂ ‘ಅಬ್ಬಬ್ಬಾ ' ಎಂದು ಅನಿಸಿರುತ್ತೆ !

94 ಪುಟಗಳ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪುಸ್ತಕವಿದು. 4 ಕಥೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಒಂದೊಂದು ಕಥೆಯೂ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಭೌಗೋಳಿಕ ವಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜರುಗಿ, ಕೆನ್ನೆತ್ ಅವರ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆ , ಶಿಕಾರಿಯ ಮೇಲಿದ್ದ ಅವರ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ.

Very thrilling stories. Story holds the reader from the beginning till the end. In many cases writer was just escaped from Tiger. JUST ESCAPED!! In one instance he fights directly and kills tiger successfully with his intellectual mind.

ಕಾಡಿನ ಕತೆಗಳು series ನ ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯ ಭಾಗ. ಆಂಡರ್ಸನ್ ರ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷ್ ರಚನೆಯ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾವಾನುವಾದವೇ ಮುನಿಶಾಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಗಡಿ ಚಿರತೆ.
ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕತೆಗಳಿವೆ. ನಾಲ್ಕೂ ಕತೆಗಳು ರೋಚಕವಾಗಿವೆ, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಬಾಳೆ ತೋಟದ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಕತೆಯಂತೂ ಯಾವ suspense/thriller ಸಿನಿಮಾಗೂ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಉಸಿರು ಬಿಗಿಹಿಡಿದು ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.

Many times while reading I feel like unrealistic but we must understand the fact that at that time no phones or internet or no technology now also in the jungle if I kill a tiger now I do the same as the storyteller or tiger hunter in this book because wild animals, not a joke you need face extreme unpredictable moments with them.

ಮುನಿಶಾಮಿಯ ಕುತಂತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಸ್ಯದ ಮೂಲಕ ಎಳೆ ಎಳೆಯಾಗಿ ತೆರೆದಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರೆ, ಬಾಳೆತೋಟದ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಕುತೂಹಲ,ರೋಚಕತೆಯಿಂದ ವರ್ಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ .. ಕಥೆ ಓದುತ್ತಾ ನಾವೇ ಶಿಕಾರಿಗೆ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ..👌👌👍👍

Breathtaking stories of Tiger hunting - Amazing translation by Tejaswi with a touch of the nativity.

Especially I liked the "ಬಾಳೆ ತೋಟದ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ" - It was awesome to read.
