There Is No Death: The Extraordinary True Experience of Sarah LaNelle Menet

Rate this book
Sarah Menet was pronounced dead but she did not die. Her near death experience (NDE) is one of the most extensive ever recorded. Sarah not only visited the beautiful spirit world, describing the people, their dress, activities, and buildings; but she also visited what could be called "hell" and describes the torment of those committed to that terrible place. She also received answers to many questions such as: Why are terrible things allowed to happen to good people? Is there a purpose to life here on earth? Why is it important to treat others with respect? Is it important to be good? Is there such a things as deja vu? Is there such a thing as reincarnation? What are some of the difficulties that may lie ahead for us on earth? Sarah was also shown several future events. She saw tall buildings in New York collapsing amidst smoke and debris and people running years before 9/11. This was the beginning of other calamities which were to include a great plague suddenly striking several cities in the United States, a nuclear war and other devastating events. So begins the story of Sarah's extraordinary experience. It is without a doubt the most complete and extensive NDE ever recorded. Sarah not only visited the beautiful spirit world, describing the people living there, their dress, activities and buildings; but she visited what we call "hell" and describes the torment of those committed to that terrible place. She saw many things and received answers to many questions.

I actually skimmed this book about 3 or 4 years ago when it was given to me but I never read the entire thing. A conversation on Sunday lead to me pick this book up again and read the whole thing...

One of my friends said she was reading a book she thought I would really like... Visions of Glory by John Pontius. When I got home from church I spent sometime looking into that book. One of the reviews I read said:

"I must admit I have never read anyone else talking about floods in Salt Lake as one of the signs of the last days."

When I read that sentence I thought I've heard of floods in Salt Lake City before... in Sarah's book There Is No Death. It perked my interest so I grabbed this book off the shelf and ended up reading it cover to cover in one sitting. It's not a long book, just over 100 pages so it is a quick read.

First let me say I'm fascinated with Near Death and Life Before Birth experiences. I've read several books on those subjects and find the accounts very interesting. I don't consider them to be scripture or prophesy but definitely food for thought.

This was not the most well written account I have read but it did make me think. There were many things in her retelling that made sense to me. Ultimately my take away from the book was to be very careful to not judge others and to be sure to right as many of the wrongs I have done as I possibly can while I have the chance to do so. For me it was a very worthwhile read.

There aren't many books that I feel are life changing--this one was for me. A friend of mine gave it to me to read years ago, but I was put off by it because it is a "near death" experience. She assured me it was worth the read, but I put it off. I FINALLY read it and was so sad that I waited so long. It is very inspiring and genuine. How she describes the life after this earth life, coinsided with my religious beliefs--eventhough we don't share the same religion and she was an athiest before this experience. It is TOTALLY worth the read. I need to go out and buy this book! It is worth owning.

This book is about a near death experience of a lady. She is now LDS, although nothing in the book alludes to that. She has a very powerful testimony as I've heard her in person. Her main message in person is to follow the prophet: keep the Sabbath Day Holy; get food storage; and get out of debt. The book talks about her NDE and the effect on her as well as things she saw with regards to the last days. Again she says let the spirit itself testify to you of it's truth.

I felt like I was reading a tabloid. The way the book is structured, all chopped up with headers, makes this a very fast read. The writing is nothing special, very plain. Perhaps it was kept that way so as not to be misunderstood. I don't like the title of the book because if there is no death, then there can't be life. I understand the reason why the wording was chosen, though. Titles need to grab your attention. That only increases the tabloid feeling to me.

What a magnet for disaster this woman's life was! She seems to be stronger for it. Anyone who survives physical abuse from a parent and chooses to be a better person has my compassion and respect. Still...

I don't know how I feel about near death experience books. I've read one other one before. I think I checked it out from the library after meeting the author. This one was loaned to me. I think what bothers me about them is that when I read them I know what I'm reading, so it changes the way I read it and I'm focusing on whether or not I think the author is nuts. I suppose this is where the tabloid feeling originates. I can say that both books have an end goal of motivating you to be good and do good and love everyone. That can't be a bad thing.

What I do like about this book is the description of spirits radiating different intensities of light that corresponds to their level of righteousness. There's a truth to that that just resonates with me.

This was one of the most unsettling and disturbing books I have ever read. The authors descriptions of the apocalypse were very graphic and dismal. She details diseases stemming from biological warfare, a world wide nuclear war, a long devastating winter, earthquakes, volcanoes, extreme wind storms, extensive flooding, and eventually a fire ball destroying the world. It conveys a lack of hope.

The portion of the book the author allots to her actual near death experience and the afterlife are very minimal compared to her horrific life story leading up to her suicide, her grizzly images of the end of the world, and her long hard road to recovery after coming back to her body, including what to do now with her newly acquired information.

I felt like I was reading a horror story, reminiscent but not nearly as well written as a Steven King novel, but since it is based on a "true" experience it was harder to brush off as fiction. She is good at conveying depression, fear and dread, about the world we live in and what "might" happen in the future but, the whole story seemed far fetched it was too much for one book. Her "real" life story's include her child being kidnapped, her own abduction and stabbing, preventing a strangers suicide etc. I really don't know if I can give it any credibility since her near death experience occurs because of a drug induced suicide attempt.

oi, I was the wrong sort of person to read this book. It was not necessarily a bad book but I know I'll have nightmares for a while. (dark circles today).

The Author has a Near Death Experience and gets to ask a whole bunch of questions in the spirit world. Afterward she sees the future and it's not pretty. I know the sign of the second coming but I did not know the gory details she laid out. I don't like fear based motivation and the fear overpowered all the good in the book.

I don't know what made the book so real to me (look at the rating of everyone else, very high) because I thought the writing was choppy and not very believable. I liked what Courtney said: "It's her reality, not mine."

So, it was ok, interesting but not my style.

This is the most comprehensive personal Near Death Experience (NDE) I read in the last few years. I have read many personal NDE stories but this one talks about the future timeline of the earth before the end. During our economic collapse this last year, I was reminded of what Sarah said about the collapse of American and world society. So I reread it again.

While love is the prevailing feeling of life after death, the view of levels of hell versus the levels in heaven was most thought provoking.

I don't know how to describe how I respond to this book without a religious discussion of my beliefs, so I'll leave it at that.

I was exposed to this woman's NDE just days after 9-11 via an old audio tape my mother-in-law gave me. I decided to get the book and read more about it for some reason this past week. You can read the book in a day, it is a quick read. I found the information quite fascinating and the lessons she gathered from her experience in line with many of my beliefs.

This was an incredible book. I have never read such a detailed account of a visit to the spirit world. It rang true with me and beautifully concurred my own religious beliefs about the next life. It brought a measure of peace as well, since I could easily imagine my own deceased brother dwelling happily there.

Very interesting. I really liked the first half of the book, but after it got to the predictions part it felt a little... lame. It's a quick read though, so it was worth it.

Loved her account and explanations on many things we wonder about. I've read this several times and refer to it occasionally to see how her vision of the future plays out with our times and beyond.

The beginning provided an interesting concept but I had a hard time getting behind the second part of the book. I don’t do well with forced religion or end of the world predictions. It did offer me some comfort as I try to navigate death of a loved one and it at the very least gave me a lot to think about. Though at the end of it all, we will truly never really know the truth until we get there - which is how I believe it should be.

This was my first NDE book that I ever read. I do not believe that everything will happen as she said it, but rather that it is personal revelation for her somehow. Having said that, there are very valuable insights about life in there, and this book legitimately made me want to be a better person. Thank you for sharing Sarah!

Just finished Sarah's amazing book. A definite read for anyone who believes in Jesus and that He is coming back. Sarah killed herself in 1978 and her Spirit visited "Heaven" read her gripping story.

This near death account is ok, but not as satisfying as many I have read. It is sincere, but has some perspectives that are less satisfying than other LDS oriented nde accounts I have read.

I'm not sure what to think of this book. It made me want to go and do more service with my life which is good, but at the same time her future visions were a little far-fetched for me. I strangely found myself believing a lot what she had to say oddly, which I don't like to admit because the book really scared me. All the future destruction, talk about evil spirits hanging around, and the Salt Lake City destruction really left a bad (and scared) taste in my mouth. But again, I'm not sure what to think of that either. Either happy that I am more educated and can now be more prepared or stupid that I considered anything she had to say in the first place. It was confusing to me because while the book seemed far-fetched at some parts, her near death experience as a whole matched up strikingly well with my churches teachings. So I really am confused and have no idea what to think right now.

I wish I could somehow have heard her tell her story before the world trade center towers collapsed, as that would have given her a lot more credit since she predicted them. She says that she did in fact talk about it happening before it happened though so a part of me wants to do some digging to find some interviews circa-1990s.
I also would be interested to have heard her experience before she joined the church, because I'd like to know how much of her book was influenced by that and how much of it was influenced by her near death experience alone.

I have to admit I skipped ahead to read the chapter "I see the future" before reading the rest, and I'm glad I did. It gave context to the long, depressing story of her life before her near-death experience and helped me to get through it, knowing it would get better. Sarah Lanelle Menet seems to be a very kind person (adopting a co-worker's baby to prevent an abortion) who has had an amazingly life-changing experience. I appreciate that she shared it with us. I was struck by similarities in both her predictions and her answers to questions about heaven, when compared with some other NDE books, like Return From Tomorrow, Proof of Heaven, and Through the Window of Life. It brings to mind the litmus test, "In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." 2 Corinthians 13:1.

Read together, these books paint a clear picture of the PURPOSE of life, as well as give a road map to happy living here and hereafter.

I highly recommend this book, but if you're like me, you may want to begin with the chapter "I see the future," read to the end, and then start at the beginning.

The first half of the book was very inspiring. It made me realize things that I can do to be a better person and improve myself. The part where she describes how Satan and Evil work in our lives was a little strongly worded. A part describes how evil spirits enter our bodies and possess us. She says "when we partake of mind-altering drugs and alchohol, this resistance is lowered. It can happen with the first drink. A hole opens up at the crown of the head that actually allows an evil spirit to drop down into us." Being a catholic we use wine to celebrate mass. And Jesus turned the water to wine at the last supper. I don't think he would have giving wine to his deciples if it would cause them to be possessed by satan. So some of her views are not in keeping with what I believe as a catholic, and she kind of lost me there and with her visions of the future. However the time she spent in heaven were very similar to other stories of NDE's I have read about. Worth reading if you want to improve yourself, but taken with a grain of salt while doing so.

A sad book in many ways. I was sad for the terrible life that she had to endure both before and after her suicide. I was sad to learn about the reality of hell she had to endure for a few moments reserved for those who commit suicide. It was similar to the hell Angie Fenimore told about in her book, Beyond the Darkness. She teaches a lot of truth in her book but I had a little difficult time with the claim that she foretold the 9-11 twin towers attacks, especially since the book came out shortly after the event. It seems to me that those who see future events in their NDEs are seeing possible scenarios, not events that will happen. Interesting reading but let’s not treat Sarah like a psychic. She’s not a spokesperson for God as to how things are going to come to pass in the very last days. For example, she talks about biological attacks that she said would happen sometime after the twin towers attacks. They haven’t yet. You can watch interviews with her on YouTube.

This sad story of a very difficult life was an interesting and fairly believable account of a near death experience. The story had credibility to the extent that many of the things Sarah claims she saw during her experience were very similar to more credible accounts by others, such as Elane Durham, author of "I Stand all Amazed." Sarah lost credibility somewhat when she claimed to predict 9/11 after the fact, and she ventured to predict by a specific year (2012) other major disasters in four cities that did not and still have not happened. There is always danger in putting a specific timetable on unknown events such as those she claimed to have seen during her NDE. Still, her vision of the spirit world, the degrees of glory, and spirit prison were consistent with many other accounts. Overall, it was an interesting account and worth the four to six hours it takes to read it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It's a story of a woman's near death experience. She visits the spirit world, both paradise and prison, and is given a glimpse of the last days here on Earth. I'm naturally pretty sceptical of people's NDEs. Still, I believe they happen, and this particular book rings true to me. So, I guess I can say that I liked it, in spite of my desire to run from it. At any rate, what she has to say has certainly made me think a LOT about my own life and what really is important, etc. I am glad that I read it. Also, I read it in less than a day. I was certainly compelled to fininsh it. It was very engaging. I wish one of you would read it so I could have someone to talk to about it. Just don't blame me if you hate it.

I have a fascination for books like this one. The author describes her near-death experience after trying to commit suicide. There are many interesting things she saw (including her vision of the events of the coming apocalypse, which by the way, agree quite eerily to the author who wrote "Visions of Glory"), but the thing I find the most compelling is her experience in 'spirit prison or spirit hell'. She stood next to her father who was a pedophile in mortality and had passed away some years before. She describes how the people who go there are held there and what they are experiencing. It is not something you forget! The result of this experience for her was to want to come back to this life and her anger at her father was gone. Very, very interesting.

This is the book choice for February's book club. I am just uncharacteristically ahead in reading. There aren't very many copies to go around and I wanted to make sure that I read it so I volunteered to go first. It is a quick read and honestly, really interesting.

This book is about a near death experience. Many parts sounded familiar to my own believes about the afterlife, but not all. I think it was a good reminder to me of the purpose of life and the need to be prepared. I was hesitant to read the book, but found many personal things to take away from my reading. I'm glad I got the chance to read it and appreciate that it was chosen for book club.

Maybe 2 1/2 stars. While I thought her experience was definitely interesting, it was a bit far-out there for me. Once I got to her "predictions" it got a little over the top for me. She is not a prophet, yet she is prophesying like these are absolute truths. I don't know, doesn't ring true to me. Describing Satan being able to possess our bodies because "a hole opens up in your head and the evil spirit can enter right in". What??? I don't doubt she had an incredible experience, but how she states everything like pure fact kind of bothered me. Anyway, interesting read if taken with a grain of salt. Should make for a lively book club discussion.

This was definitely loads easier to get through than the last book I read on visions and near-death experiences! :-)

But the two actually supported each other very well. Not that they were designed to, but there were many connections in the experiences.

What I liked about Sarah's story was how easy to understand it all was. She was quick and to the point, and yet she painted a vivid picture of what she saw and experienced. It wasn't ponderous to get through, and yet she answered so many questions.

Definitely a good book to pick up if you want to learn more about the next life and its possibilities.

A very detailed experience of the the end times though it sounds like it was influenced by Mormon beliefs. Though I understand she was not a Mormon when she had her experience. She doesn't seem to be selling anything which adds credence to her claims. Though I will add that published NDEs these days seem to only be the most detailed ones out there not like when Dr. Moody first published his collection of NDEs. Is it because they are happening more often, people are embellishing their stories, people are making up stories, the Lord is preparing the earth for His second coming or some other reason? I don't know but this account is very detailed with many elements in it. I enjoyed it.
