Who doesn’t love a space safari? Especially a trek in a jungle world about which little is known, apart from a huge, resident monster who enjoys eating space probes. Godric and his girlfriend Anna, that’s who. But Frank, supreme leader of another dimension, doesn’t care. He’s splashed out on a shiny spaceship, snazzy safari suit, and an assortment of weird uniforms for his crew that may or may not fit them because he forgot to ask their sizes.
The bottom line is that Terry, Godric, Anna and their robot companions, Rosetta and Drudge, are flying off on space safari – whether they like bushy green undergrowth or not. But this is no ordinary space vacation. Frank has plans up his well-tailored sleeve to track down the monster, capture it, and either eat it, stuff it, or sign a marketing deal with it. He hasn’t decided yet.
Can our intrepid explorers survive their trip to Planet Dude? Will they encounter intelligent life in the alien jungle? And will they find and capture the monster without anyone losing any essential body parts? There’s only one way to find out – read the greatest space-safari novel ever written by a carbon lifeform called Paul Mathews!
The second title in the Mostly Humorous Sci-Fi series
Space Safari on Planet Dude is a sequel, a standalone novel, and could even be the third book in a trilogy if the author ever writes a prequel to Terry From Another Dimension . Apologies if that sounds confusing. Terry himself is often confused. About life, the universe and everything.
Science-fiction can be hilarious, and author Paul Mathews is convinced that he’s a mostly humorous kinda guy; so he’s written another comedy science-fiction novel. He’s confident that, if you’re an intelligent lifeform, you’ll find it funny. If it doesn’t amuse you, that means … well, you do the math.
So come on safari in another world. All you need to pack is your reading glasses … and a box of tissues to wipe away the tears of laughter!
Paul Mathews is a quite funny British guy whose sharp, satirical - often surreal - sense of humour has been honed during half a century of not taking life too seriously. He gains inspiration from his love of good food, tea, four-legged animals & the quirks and quibbles of British life. Visit his website at www.quitefunnyguy.com. Or not. Whatever.
I am a fan of Paul Mathews’ work, having read all of his silly, frivolous, pointless, and seriously funny books. His likable but clueless characters, light-as-air storylines, and refusal to offer a moral lesson anywhere have provided me with hours of smiles and relaxation, for which I am deeply grateful. Planet Dude is a continuation of the adventures begun in Terry from Another Dimension, which introduces Terry, Godric, and an assortment of oddities. These characters return in Planet Dude, plus some giant talking parrots, large talking cats, a cocktail droid, and an impressive water gun. Better, though not essential, to read Terry first. Mathews’ British humor is civilized, silly, playful, and nonstop. Delightful escapism in the Andromeda Galaxy after the day is done.
Let me start by saying that I’m a Paul Mathews fan. I love his “we have lost” series and the not so smart detective series. I have to admit that this story took me way too long to finish. Partly because it wasn’t as funny as usual and partly because it seems to have been stretched too long. There are of course funny bits but still I was bored in the beginning so it took a long time for me to have the interest again to pick it back up and finish it.
If you want a real laugh I suggest reading the “we have lost” series first. That way you become a fan no matter if they are all hilarious or not 😉
