DNF at 44% for now, I might give it another try later… Unpopular opinion I know, but I am happy to see that most people seem to really enjoy this one.
I wanted to love this one so much. The premise reminded me a little bit of Primal Sin by Ariana Nash, and I had high hopes. Sadly, it fell flat for a few reasons, and for the moment I just don’t have the motivation to continue reading it.
In a dystopian society where angels rule over demons, Raphael is third in line to take the throne, and while he keeps appearances in public, it is quickly made clear that he does not share his people's idea that demons are worthless and should be treated as slaves. He wants to get rid of his father, in the hope that this will help his country heal and become a better place. When he meets Dante, a demon with special abilities, he sees it as a sign and asks Dante to come work for him and to become his partner in crime.
The writing was pretty simple and straightforward, but the one thing that bothered me a little bit is the mix of present and past tense in some sentences. It didn’t prevent me from understanding the story at all, but it made some sentences sound weird. The way things were presented was also all telling and not a lot of showing. We were told about the characters' feelings, but I didn't feel it in the writing. Things happened and it just read like a list of actions without many details, descriptions, or emotions (besides what was told, but not shown).
From the very beginning, there were some betrayals and deaths that were supposed to be significant since they impacted Dante greatly. Sadly, they had no real impact because we didn’t have the time to know the characters, much less get attached to them. The ideas are good, but I feel that everything was crammed into one short book instead of being developed over one longer book, or even two books. Mind you, I didn't finish the book, so what I say only applies to the first half, but I still feel that everything was rushed and half-developed in that first half.
Raphael never really showed any behavior that implied he was unhappy with having his father on the throne until he naively tells Dante his plan to remove his father. Sure, he wants Demons to have better living conditions, but then he just decided to bring Dante into his super secret plan to dethrone the king. Where did that come from? We are missing some backstory or some insight into Raphael’s head to understand how and why he is at the point where he wants to get rid of his father.
I find that for a royal prince, Raphael trusts people way too easily. He tells his secret plans to Dante with no prompting and hopes that Dante will want to become his partner in crime. He asks people to become his spies left and right simply because he showed mercy and kindness, and everyone agrees instantly… For someone who is supposed to be very clever, he seemed rather naïve. He even asked a child to spy for him. Overall, his plan to get rid of his father is still unclear and seems half-cooked.
Overall, both main characters lacked depth and subtlety. It was easy to see that Dante tends to feel loyalty toward people he just met and that he wanted the world to be better for demons. It was also easy to see that Raphael is a kind and just person that wants to right the wrongs of his father, but it was just shoved into our faces instead of subtly woven into the story, the characters’ decisions, and their personalities.
The romance felt a little bit forced to be honest. I couldn’t really feel any attraction or tension between Dante and Raphael, and then Dante just decided to kiss Raphael and suddenly they were both full of uncontrollable passion and couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
As I said at the beginning of my review, the ideas are not bad and there is potential, but I feel that this book would need another round of editing to better the writing, but also to develop the ideas, and add details, backstories, and depth to the characters.

“You’re a privileged asshole,” Dante said. “Are you so bored with your wealth, you need a charity mission to make yourself into some savior? The entire world is your entertainment.”

In a world when the angels rule and the demons are the enemy, one angel prince allies with a demon outcast to plot against the king. It is a dangerous game especialy when there is a strong attraction between Prince Raphael and his demon bodyguard Dante. Dante is such a loyal and beliver that keep protect Raphael. I really enjoy to see his grow and the fact that he do not give up of the prince even when is a complete idiot. Prince Raphael is the type of character that is willing to sacrifices himself to save to world, but is also can be a sweet guy just not so great to let other people in and like to self-sabotage his own happiness.
The worldbuilding was intresting, and I did want to be a little more explore. Also I really love Sienna and Eric story, and hope that in the next book we can see more of them.

I had high hopes for this one because the premise was really good. In general, the book was okay, but the idea behind has so much potential that it's a shame the result was not up to it.
The story has an intriguing take on the popular angel/demon genre with the dystopian vibes that I usually liked. The worldbuilding was promising, but I still needed more details and background for characters and past events.
The writing isn't bad if not a bit simple. Sometimes the phrasing is odd, but you can still understand what's happening. And there are grammar mistakes like past tenses slipping into present within a sentence. Things that are easy to fix with good editing.
The main characters lacked a little bit of depth. It was easy to see their personalities through their actions because they were too simple. Their thoughts were predictable, and they followed the same pattern. There was no real growth throughout the story. And I found Raphael annoying at times. His character was unbelievably naive and some of his decision were ridiculous.
The romance part was alright. Although, I would have liked to feel more tension between them at the beginning and more opportunities for strengthening their relationship.
I'm glad I got the opportunity to read this. I wish the author success in future projects. I honestly believe that their ideas and world-building are very promising.

I really liked these characters – Raphael and Dante were interesting but I wanted to learn more about them on a deeper level.
What I didn’t enjoy however, was the political side of this story – I found it uninteresting and tedious.
I did like Raphael and Dante together but there was way too little of them building a relationship together - I wish there was more of their romance... 💙💙

Intriguing and full of suspense!
The story concept was interesting and original with demons and angels like I’d never seen before. I liked the concept of trying to right the wrongs of the past as well! I always love a good seeking justice story and standing up for what’s right.
The story was unpredictable and exciting full of twists and turns that I never saw coming.
The characters were interesting and polar opposites but fit together nicely.

Alas, another book for the "I wanted to like this more than I did" shelf.
The worldbuilding here is quite intriguing, a fascinating take on the good old angels and demons theme that comes with a number of clever twists. It's a world I very much enjoyed exploring - Stankova is definitely on to something here. She provides just enough background about how this all came about to leave the reader wanting to learn more - hopefully the sequel will delve a little deeper in this regard.
The plot, epic fantasy meets dystopia meets M/M romance, involves plenty of political intrigue and a plot to overthrow the ruling family - so far, so good. The thing is, that plan... well, it's not very well thought through, is it? For someone supposedly so smart, Raphael acts very thoughtlessly at times and makes some rather dumb decisions. The further I read, the less I liked him. For all his grand talk about wanting to make the world better for everyone, his main motivation seems to be pure selfishness, and he doesn't seem to care that he's hurting the people he supposedly loves with his egoistic actions. And Dante... lets him get away with it. At the end, these two deserved each other - and I don't mean that in a positive way. The shine wore off the romance part pretty quickly for me - I wasn't feeling it in the beginning, and found it exasperating by the end. Neither character felt quite rounded, and their emotional outbursts (particularly all the crying) too frequently didn't ring true.
As for the writing, I enjoyed it for the most part, though occasionally it didn't flow quite smoothly and there were phrasings that were just a little... off. An editor also should have caught the handful of instances where the author slipped from past into present tense for a sentence - hardly a big issue, but somewhat jarring every time all the same.
All in all, this was a solid enough series opener, but not quite as good as it could have been. Reni Stankova clearly has talent and an eye for worldbuilding - I'm looking forward to seeing her hone her craft. I'm intrigued enough to be interested in the next book.

I'm upset… Why? I don't know, don't ask me.
I'd be happy with the book ending if it were a standalone, but it's not. It's a trilogy, and I don't know if I want to know what's going to happen in the next books.
Was it a bad book? Of course not, I don't get mad at shitty books.
This is an ARC honest review, and I can assure you that I can't be more honest than I'm being right now. Prepare yourselves for a slow start and steady progress and an ending that is a rollercoaster of emotions, events, plot twits, and last-minute decisions. Decisions that nobody understands (not even those who make them) but that we have nothing left but to accept.

At a certain point I thought it would be a quiet story, with zero angst because still at 50% nothing really exciting had happened. It was all a succession of events that, although logical, felt as if they were pure beginner's luck.
And then, boom! We discover everything, and it's as if someone suddenly sweeps the carpet under your feet.
The last 40% of the book I spent yelling at the characters 😅😮💨😵💫
Raphael, don't do that!
Give him death penalty!
Someone please k!ll him!
Where did those wings come from? 😳
I have too many questions, But I prefer to remain unanswered.
If the other books pick up where Dante and Raphael left off, but from another couple's perspective, I'll most likely read the rest of the trilogy, but if it's with them again, I won't read any more books.
Why? Because I need them to be happy. I need this to be the end of their storyline. They've suffered too much. They deserve happiness.

Dante is a worthless Demon. Bitterness is his life. Living in a ghetto, surrounded by death and despair. Only striving to protect the weaker demons around him. Raphael is a privileged Angel and a prince of the Kingdom of Heaven. The world sees him as a hedonist, not as the strong, driven man that he really is. Their paths collide and neither man can foretell their future. When they come together the world that they know will change forever.
This is not anyone’s idea of Heaven. It’s grim, gritty, and dark. But the heroes of the tale are very heroic (duh) and even though Raphael could of given Machiavelli lessons he was still an idealistic, likable character. Dante made me want a demon of my own. Even as they progressed towards love there were still elements of doubt in each other which pushed the story along.
I enjoyed this book very much and am excited to see what else the author has for in store for this world.

This is not anyone’s idea of Heaven. It’s grim, gritty, and dark. But the heroes of the tale are very heroic (duh) and even though Raphael could of given Machiavelli lessons he was still an idealistic, likable character. Dante made me want a demon of my own. Even as they progressed towards love there were still elements of doubt in each other which pushed the story along.
I enjoyed this book very much and am excited to see what else the author has for in store for this world.

To live in a Heaven of their making
This was a ride from start to finish. Dante and Raphael are a complete powerhouse of a couple, but what I enjoyed most about them is that they feel like actual people. They tell jokes at inopportune moments, disagree with each other, and don’t always make the right decisions. For being an angel and a demon, they are completely and utterly human.
Reni Stankova is an author who knew what she set out to do and executed that plan not unlike Raphael. My only solid critique is that sometimes I felt as if payoff from reveals or new introductions happened too quickly, but even so, I never felt like the narrative wasn’t justified in its trajectory. The plot itself has climatic ups and downs, and every major event leads into another. The reveals were intriguing, and just enough was left unanswered to leave me eager for more. All-in-all, the story gave me some lowkey Game of Thrones meets Arianna Nash.
The Enemy of Heaven ends on a HFN. If the series continues to follow Dante and Raphael, I’m excited to see what this world…their new Heaven…might have in store for them. If it follows another couple (and I can definitely see the possibility), I would be happy for Dante and Raphael and how their story concluded. Whichever direction it goes, I’m happy to follow.

Honestly, this book was such a treat! As soon as I read the synopsis I was excited and hoped it gave the same vibes as Primal Sin by Ariana Nash. While I did enjoy this story quite a lot, I did find that I was left confused and a bit disappointed with the lack of detail through the entirety of the book.
This is a dual POV, M/M action/political romance between Raphael, the third heir to the Kingdom of Heaven and Dante, a demon with extraordinary abilities. Together they try to dismantle the injustices of Heaven and bring justice and equity into their corrupt world.
The world and magic system in this book were unique and the reimagining of heaven as a dystopian setting 1000 years after a great war was so fun to discover. I enjoyed the idea of this setting so much, it was disappointing to not see ore detail regarding the palaces, neighborhoods and even characters. Even now that I have finished the book, I can't seem to grasp a clear picture in my head of what Raphael looks like. It is the same with other characters, where there is a lack of descriptors to help the reader identify the characters outside of their names.
Raphael was an interesting character and while he is likable, I wish I was given more information regarding his past and how he came to engage in the things he did. We do get a glimpse of his reasons for becoming close to Dante and he is seeking revenge for an important cause but I he always felt like such a mystery, even when his mysteries were supposedly solved. Dante is my favorite character although his personality felt disjointed at times. He is introduced to the reader via traumatic events and then is placed in situations that force him to use his skills/powers to protect Raphael. This was really odd because early in the book he is attacked and made to appear vulnerable but then halfway through the book he is dodging bullets and fighting 10 men. I get he gets proper care and doesn't have to hold back with Raphael but...I wish there was more development there.
The romance was sweet and I loved the banter between both MMCs. Dante is so sarcastic and does not hesitate to remind Raphael of the things he was promised. Again, I wish the development of their relationship was more fleshed out. It felt rushed and not enough at the same time.
Overall, the story is very slow for the first 40% of the book but the second half gets wild. Where did the wings come from? WTF? I am looking forwards to the sequels because I do have a lot of questions I'm going to need answers to. I do recommend it and am exited to read more from this author.

This is a dual POV, M/M action/political romance between Raphael, the third heir to the Kingdom of Heaven and Dante, a demon with extraordinary abilities. Together they try to dismantle the injustices of Heaven and bring justice and equity into their corrupt world.
The world and magic system in this book were unique and the reimagining of heaven as a dystopian setting 1000 years after a great war was so fun to discover. I enjoyed the idea of this setting so much, it was disappointing to not see ore detail regarding the palaces, neighborhoods and even characters. Even now that I have finished the book, I can't seem to grasp a clear picture in my head of what Raphael looks like. It is the same with other characters, where there is a lack of descriptors to help the reader identify the characters outside of their names.
Raphael was an interesting character and while he is likable, I wish I was given more information regarding his past and how he came to engage in the things he did. We do get a glimpse of his reasons for becoming close to Dante and he is seeking revenge for an important cause but I he always felt like such a mystery, even when his mysteries were supposedly solved. Dante is my favorite character although his personality felt disjointed at times. He is introduced to the reader via traumatic events and then is placed in situations that force him to use his skills/powers to protect Raphael. This was really odd because early in the book he is attacked and made to appear vulnerable but then halfway through the book he is dodging bullets and fighting 10 men. I get he gets proper care and doesn't have to hold back with Raphael but...I wish there was more development there.
The romance was sweet and I loved the banter between both MMCs. Dante is so sarcastic and does not hesitate to remind Raphael of the things he was promised. Again, I wish the development of their relationship was more fleshed out. It felt rushed and not enough at the same time.
Overall, the story is very slow for the first 40% of the book but the second half gets wild. Where did the wings come from? WTF? I am looking forwards to the sequels because I do have a lot of questions I'm going to need answers to. I do recommend it and am exited to read more from this author.

Such a unique and intriguing read! As soon as I read the synopsis, I was immediately hooked, especially as a fan of books like Primal Sin by Ariana Nash. While this one didn’t hit quite the same notes, it offered a refreshing take that I genuinely enjoyed and found hard to put down.
This dual POV M/M romance between Raphael, the third heir to the Kingdom of Heaven, and Dante, a demon with extraordinary gifts, was packed with action, political intrigue, and a powerful rebellion against a corrupt celestial system. I was especially drawn to the concept of a dystopian Heaven set a thousand years after a great war, it felt so original and compelling. The magic system and world-building had so much potential, and I loved the overall aesthetic and themes introduced.
The dynamic between Raphael and Dante was a definite highlight. Their banter brought levity and charm to the story, and Dante's sarcasm was especially fun to read. Their romance had some very sweet moments, and while I wished their emotional arc had a bit more development, their chemistry was still palpable and engaging.
Character-wise, Dante quickly became my favorite. He’s introduced through trauma, and I found his journey from vulnerability to strength compelling, even if a bit uneven at times. Raphael was intriguing as well, and while I hoped for a deeper dive into his background and motivations, I appreciated the glimpses we did get, especially regarding his complex family dynamics.
The pacing is on the slower side for the first half, but it really ramps up in the second half, with some wild twists (yes, the wings scene!). There were a few moments where the narrative jumped ahead in time a bit too quickly for my taste, and I found myself wanting just a little more detail, especially when it came to describing the settings and characters, but I’m optimistic the sequels will expand on those aspects.
One of my favorite lines that truly encapsulated the heart of the story was:
“Justice, freedom from oppression, basic human rights, these are not things anyone should have to fight for. They should be given at birth.”
That line stayed with me and reminded me why I was rooting for these characters and the world they’re trying to change.
If you enjoy slow-burn fantasy with dual POV, political tension, and a romance that’s more emotionally driven than spicy, this one is definitely worth checking out. I’m excited to see where the story goes next, and I’ll definitely be picking up the sequels!

i tried really hard to push through this book but i ended up dnf at about 20%
in a world of angels and demons, the third prince raphael fights for the rights of demons. he recruits a demon with special powers, dante, to become a part of his royal guard as they hatch a plan to dethrone the king of heaven and create a better world for all. will the plan fail if they fall for each other, an enemy they’ve been raised to despise?
this book was told in a duel point of view, one from raphael and one from dante, however they were both in third person. therefore, it was difficult for me to get into their mindset and i feel as though there could have been a benefit to switching to a first person point of view.
as for writing flaws, there were many descriptions that halted the story line as well as random characters or phrases thrown in the readers face that you had to figure out as you went. there is a great way to introduce a new character and setting, and unfortunately this book did not have that feature for me. i felt as though certain descriptions took me out of the scene instead of building a clearer picture of what was going on.
additionally, there were weird jumps in the timeline and i was unsure what was going on and where at multiple points. it was also unclear as to which character was speaking as delivery of dialogue changed in a single paragraph. the style just did not serve me well as a reader.

When I read the above part in the book I knew that the plot of this story was going to draw me right in. And it did. Right from the get-go I loved the premise of the Angels and Demon. I loved the hierarchy of the world the author built for this story to be told.
I am a huge sucker for dual POVs. I love seeing a story from all angles and this one did just that. There was mentions of spice but not really spicy at all so if you are looking for a cleaner story that “closes the bedroom door” and begin next scene so to speak this is for you. If you are a spicy mama, don’t expect that from this book. Ok, now the things that I didn’t love… I felt as through at times the book jumped timelines too fast. I didn’t love that it fast forwarded through the story and time, although I understand the necessity of it, to get through the story timeline. I appreciated the backstory of Raphaels father and mother but other than that I did not feel as though I understood the hatred from him towards his father. I would have preferred a longer book that filled in some of these story plot holes to make me feel what he felt towards him.
The ending felt … weird. It almost seemed as though there wouldn’t be any other books even though the story wasn’t finished. And again, it skipped over a large amounts of time and was like "ta-da".
I hope the other books continue to fill in some of the back story as well as continue building the characters and storylines we were introduced to in this book.

Raphael Azelys is one of Heaven's beloved Princes. He's grown up with the world in his hands and the power to have (almost) anything he desires. Yet he conspires and harbors deadly ambitions that threaten the very peace of the world.
Dante is a demon. His kind is hated by the angels. He's a second rank citizen (and that's being nice) doing his best to just stay alive despite the onslaught of discrimination his people face daily. He's given up the idea that the world could be a better place, and that there is hope for a better tomorrow.
An ambitious Prince stumbles upon the answer to his dreams when he saves the abrasive Dante from a death sentence. Dante wishes nothing more than to see the angel scum waste away at his feet but Raphael offers him a deal that he can't bring himself to pass.
Let me just say that Dante is my favorite! During this entire journey, I wanted to wrap him up and hide him! His strength is unparalleled and he is fiercely loyal. Poor Raphael needs so much care and he had my heart absolutely in shreds. The attraction level between Dante and Raphael was intense and forbidden in just the right amounts. I fell in love with these two and can't wait to read more!

The story concept was interesting and original with demons and angels like I’d never seen before. I liked the concept of trying to right the wrongs of the past as well! I always love a good seeking justice story and standing up for what’s right.
This is not anyone’s idea of Heaven. It’s grim, gritty, and dark. But the heroes of the tale are very heroic (duh) and even though Raphael could of given Machiavelli lessons he was still an idealistic, likable character. Dante made me want a demon of my own. Even as they progressed towards love there were still elements of doubt in each other which pushed the story along.
The Enemy of Heaven ends on a HFN. If the series continues to follow Dante and Raphael, I’m excited to see what this world…their new Heaven…might have in store for them. If it follows another couple and I can definitely see the possibility, I would be happy for Dante and Raphael and how their story concluded. Whichever direction it goes, I’m happy to follow.

The Enemy of Heaven is the first book of a MM fantay triology in a worls called Heaven. There are two social classes in Heaven: the Angels, the souverain rules, and the Demons, the outcasts.
Raphael is the Third Angel Prince, and he lives in wealth, still his existence is obscured by the crueless reign of his father, the King.
During one of his many guilty nights in the Ghetto, Raphael meets Dante, a demon on the run. He immediately sees the unmeasurable power this creature hides, and, to save his life, he takes Dante under his wing, making him his personal protector.
What they try to hide is their attraction towards each other, beyond their biggest plan as allies: the King has to die.
They embark and adventurous journey to reach their goal, dealing with treason, forbidden medical experiements and a the neverending joy of love, which separates then but brings them back together in the end.
The two characters have both a lot to hide from their past, they slowly reveal everything to each other, and more than once, they have to deal with wrong decisions taken just because of their pasts.
But they fight for each other, and soon they realize they are save together, despite all the treason surrounding the Royal Family.
Whit a lot of questions still open from this first installment, I'm looking forward to the second book, and hopefully I'll get the answers I still need to fully understand and appreciate this series.

Wonderfully written and devastating. A pompous prick of an angelic prince falls in love with a demon. They spend some time together on a mission to overthrow the current ruling body of heaven, fall in love, then the prince goes and seemingly f—ks it all up. My heart fell when he did it. With only 2 chapters to go, they have to get back together right? They do, but wait til you see what happens at the end. I gave it only 4 stars because the end kind of left me flat. The boys are together, now what?
The world is imaginative. The angels and demons destroyed most of the earth and the human inhabitants 1000 years ago. They settled on earth and called it Heaven after their war. The world is full of Angels and demons. The demons have got it rough tho. They live in the ghetto. Eating nothing but the scraps the Angels won’t eat, and are considered and treated like animals.
I could definitely see some expansion of the story to incorporate a future for the two MC’s. Even some prequel ideas come to mind too. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a fantastic gut wrenching read.

Enemy of Heaven has a really intriguing premise—a war a thousand years ago wipes out modern civilisation, and now the angels rule. But being divine doesn’t make them just. Corruption runs deep, and demons are treated as second-class citizens (or worse). Raphael, the King’s son, is determined to end that, even if it means taking drastic steps. He’s planning to walk that path alone... until a demon with a very unexpected skill set changes everything.
The romance went from interest to love pretty quickly, but both characters felt well-developed. Dante’s shift from deep paranoia to trusting Raphael felt a bit fast, though it made sense in context. What really stood out to me were the themes of corruption and power—and I liked that Raphael didn’t follow the usual “join a resistance” route. Instead, his path is far darker and more personal.
That said, the ending didn’t fully land for me - it didn't quite ring right for me, but it is a full conclusion that wraps everything up. There is a sequel, but it also feels like you could take this book as a standalone too.

This was an interesting one. I really enjoyed the different spin on angels and demons mixed with the dystopian setting.
Unfortunately the rest of the book was a bit hit or miss for me. The worldbuilding was okay, but not as fleshed out as it needed to be to really get into the story. There were some points that I was confused about what was going on, and several chapters that were a slog to get through. The world is very dark, gritty, and feels like a hard place to survive in. There was a lot of corruption, and good not always being good, and evil not always being purely evil. I liked the story, but it was a struggle to get through the book.

The Elden palace was unwilling to be changed, Raphael didn't believe even allowing the citizens a vote would change much in the form of the ruling elites. That was until he witnessed that was forgotten legendary. Demons of the ghetto was was always the blame, even the ones just trying to survive another day. Dante was no exception it seems after Phillip turned turn to gang life, now landing him in the hands of one of the prince's of heaven. Ugh how those among the elite can turn a blindeye and guardian's brutal intimidation is off the charts.
Wow this is not your typical heaven. The plots that are hatched can lead one or both parties involved to heartache or death. As one of prince's of heaven Raphael is playing a deadly game but when he involved a sweet caring demon to his plans much more is about to be at steak. The prince being betrothed to Sienna, was leaving a sour taste in Dante's mouth.

*I got this book for free, but this is my own opinion.*
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author writes beautifully and immerses you in their world. The book even started beautifully. The characters were also great, but this is where it fell apart for me. The characters were great separately, but their romance seemed contrived. And I loved the action scenes, but they were very long-winded and I began to wonder if the characters ever get a break and get to reflect about actions they may have made. They don't, but that doesn't make it a bad book.
Another thing I didn't like was the tactics the characters used. There were moments I was doubting them. Good characters were made evil and evil characters were made good.
And though the story was good, it didn't merge the two plots together, so when it ends, it concludes the romance but not the political intrigue plot. Over all, I enjoyed this story despite its flaws.

This book was <300 pages but my god did it drag on. It took me so long to finish because the plot never really hooked me and the world building was confusing. Is it possible for a book to have too much world building? Because there was a lot of history that isn’t explained very well.
Also, we start with two brutal child deaths in the first few chapters - that was very difficult to read. If I didn’t have a personal “no DNF” rule I probably would have stopped reading very early on.
Honestly the chemistry between Raphael and Dante was bland. Dante’s reasons for working with Raphael aren’t very clear. I feel like his characterization could have been deeper. Raphael gives off white savior and white guilt vibes.
I love the genre of angels vs demons but this book sadly missed the mark.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I fell in love with the characters and enjoyed bouncing between their points of view.
I think the world building could be a bit more detailed - some things are explained while others are not - but overall it's a beautifully constructed world and society.
The plot was compelling enough to keep it interesting for most of the book. There were a few points where I maybe glossed over things because it did get a bit redundant or dull, but overall the story continues moving forward at a good pace. I think my biggest issue overall is that we're told from the beginning what the main motive of Prince Raphael is and it seems like he mostly achieves his goals by the end of the book but we're told that this will be a trilogy? I'll be very interested to see where this goes from here.

The Enemy of Heaven is the first instalment of The Heaven Trilogy. Angel Raphael and Demon Dante are drawn together by recollections of their first chance meeting and then Raphael’s desire to save Dante’s life. Yet Raphael also seeks an ally in his dangerous political game to upend of the order of things and create a better world for all who live in it.
This is an action-packed political thriller, with an well-developed array of characters – both good and bad. The dynamic between Raphael and Dante is interesting and changes as the story progresses, as Dante becomes more sure of himself and Raphael perhaps less so.
If you want to read a different kind of angels and demons story, I recommend The Enemy of Heaven.

This was such an interesting read! The prince and pauper romance, the political intrigue, and the world building kept me so excited to see what would happen next. It felt like there was three books wrapped into one (in a good way) with the complex plot and conflicts that all seamlessly come together in the end. I am normally not a fan of dual perspective writing styles but this book does it so well that I couldn’t even imagine reading it without both Raphael and Dante’s perspectives to sink my hands into!

The Enemy of Heaven is Book 1 of The Heaven Trilogy. What a ride this book took me on. I love seeing versions of Heaven that aren’t stereotypical. This is a story that has a lot of things going on it. While this story mostly follows Raphael and Dante, it does introduce us to Raphael’s brothers Gabriel and Michael. They are princes of Heaven, and Dante is a demon. I loved the dynamic between Raphael and Dante. Their chemistry is so palatable. I really want to see where they go from here, however I also want to know Michael’s story. I cannot wait to read book 2!

Raphael is the third son of the king of heaven. Gabriel is the second son and Michael the first. Raphael who is classified as an Angel recruits Dante a demon to help him right the wrongs in their world. With a promise for a better life for the demons who currently live in the ghettos. There is so much going on in this story you have to ask yourself who is right or who is wrong. It’s not good against evil but prejudice against prejudice. There is suppression of past history, new innovations, murder, corruption and so much more. Fantastic story that could represent current times.
