A collection of eighty-nine full-color photographs from the widely-praised best-seller African Ceremonies offers images from across the African continent, capturing the traditions of rites of passages, including births, marriages, and deaths, along with seasonal rituals and religious ceremonies. Original. 20,000 first printing.
Angela Fisher and Carol Beckwith have produced quite a few photographic books on various tribes of Africa, always concentrating on the really good-looking ones and especially on the men. Coincidence? (How did they get this job, I wanna know?)
I've just reread this book and its as fresh as the first time. The photography is stunning, the information, though limited, on the different tribes and their ideas of beauty adds meaning to the photographs. Just one of the best books ever.
