Dragon Twins

Rate this book
Separated at birth…reunited by murder.

Behind the gates of an exclusive Lake City neighborhood, prominent businessman Don Chu’s housekeeper has been brutally murdered and his teenage daughter taken. The high-profile case has the Mayor himself sending the case across Detective Stan Brookshire’s desk. He barely has time to digest the details of the two sinister crimes before he’s called to yet another disturbing scene.

This time, at the other end of the city, another murder and attempted kidnapping ring out with a similarity too convenient for coincidence. As the clues fall into place and the evidence mounts, Stan starts to see a pattern emerge. A DNA match, and the two cases now become one. With the help of an unexpected young ally, Stan begins his search for a victim that may still be alive. It’s a race against the clock and across the globe that will test his skills to the absolute limit. Two murders. Two kidnappings. Twice the danger.

What people are saying about the Stan Brookshire Series

Sacrifice of Innocence

"Couldn't put this down; read in a couple sessions. What I love about this novel is it's a mystery but not your typical mystery as it isn't like all the other books in this genre. The good guy is a good but he's up against corrupt cops, his own bad reputation (former drunk), a child-snatching cult... we also get to read from the point of view of the good guys, the bad guys and even both primary and secondary victims. The action really doesn't stop but it still manages to fit in plenty of getting to know each player and their backstory while providing small peaks into the mastermind behind the crime(s).
I do not even have to be sad that it is over, thanks to Dragon Twins & I'll be checking that out right away as I need more of Stan & his partner."

~Lacie Redding, Kissimmee, Fl

"Allison has created a memorable detective with Stan Brookshire. The premise of the story is, a cult has been killing children and Stan has to stop them before it's too late. The police believe they have the right man in custody but another kidnapping casts that into doubt. The trial is not going well, and despite the hope that the child was abducted by a copycat, Stan begins to believe that something more is happening. The mother of the child gets involved, and slowly the protagonists realize that this is not a standard kidnapping.

It was a well-crafted mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. But the real reason I kept reading was I felt like I really got to know Detective Stan Brookshire through the story. I loved his interactions with the different characters and how he becomes emotionally involved.

I can't wait for the follow-up and to read more about Stan Brookshire. I would strongly recommend it to anybody who has grown tired of the other detective series out there."

Dragon Twins

"Another great book! I couldn't put it down one I started reading. I can't wait for the next book. Great job!!!"

~Valerie Snyder, Fairbury, NE

"In Book 2 of the Stan Brookshire series, Cosgrove doesn’t miss a beat. Continuity is perfect as the recurring characters and places are just as they were in Book 1. Stan & Jane once again take a case to heart as it becomes personal and throughout the action and psychological thrills we are also treated to the strength of family – both that with blood ties and that without. Stan still hasn’t really learned how to follow the rules; will this be the case he loses his job over? I highly recommend this read, as well as its predecessor ‘Sacrifice of Innocence’."

“Dragon Twins” eBook was published in 2013 and was written by Allison Cosgrove (https://stanbrookshire.com). Ms Cosgrove has published five novels. This is the second in her ‘Stan Brookshire’ series.

I received an ARC of this novel through https://www.netgalley.com in return for a fair and honest review. I categorize this novel as ‘PG’ because it contains a little Mature Language and some Violence. The story is set in contemporary times but in a fictitious city. The primary characters are Detectives Stan Brookshire and Jane Trinity.

The Detectives get called in on a case where a housekeeper has been murdered and an young girl has been kidnapped. They are unable to turn any leads in the Chinese family’s friends or business contacts. Soon there is another similar case of murder and attempted abduction.

The Detectives believe that they cases are related in some way, but at first find little evidence. Ultimately one of them takes a big risk to themselves in an attempt to rescue the girl.

I wasn’t sorry that I spent 4.5 hours reading this 304 page Mystery, but it was not one of the better ones that I have read. It was a watered down Mystery with little action. It also has some major flaws in the story: international travel without passports, taking a gun into China and having total free movement within China. The cover art is OK, but really doesn’t give you much of an insight to what the book is about. I’m not sure I would read another book in this series. I give this novel a 2.8 (rounded up to a 3) out of 5.

~~~~~~~~~~Lillian's ★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
How far out of your box would you go? Stan & Jane have just been given a new case, a young girl has been kidnapped and the housekeeper murdered. Who would have taken the girl, there is more to the story but no one is saying anything. Meanwhile another murder has taken place and a young boy was almost kidnapped. They are both surprised when they find a link or is Stan just reaching?
They are about to learn that the two children are related but they are still not sure why anyone would want to take them what makes them so important?
Stan knows that he will have to put his job on the line as he has to find the girl and get her home safe. Jane worries about him and his disregard for authority so all she can do is be there for him and give him whatever help that she can. Will Stan be able to find the girl and get back alive?
What I loved about this story was how Stan handled the young man and how he accepted him no questions. Jane makes me laugh as she tries so hard to keep Stan under control and he just walks to the beat of his own drum.
Another great book in the series. Can't wait to read the next one. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great read. Different from the first book, but in a good way. I love how Allison goes back and forth between the victim and the detective on the perspective. It just gives the book that something extra to take it from a great book to an amazing book. Also just her entire writing style makes the book so much more enjoyable to me. I love the dry humor and quirks of her characters, then she comes up with this awesome story line and its like magic. This story... Twins that never knew about each other and being Chinese instead of the standard white that's written about make for a better stand out story to me. I love how she even writes where characters that would normally be portrayed as helpless don't just act as if it's the end of the world and give up. She gives all her characters fight and it gives her story the extra it needs to be something you have to keep reading to find out whats going to happen next.
This book was a great read. I really liked the relationship between the detectives. They seem to have a genuine bond. The only fault I had was the ending. I wasn't ready for it to be done. I think that is a sign of a well written book, when your sad it's over. I look forward to more in this series...please?
Double the suspense
Another winning book by Allison Cosgrove. Stan continues to get into hot water, but still comes through in another classic detective tale.
