From the #1 bestselling author in Horror, Men's Adcventure, War, and Techno-thrillers, Carolyn McCray, comes a horror collection to keep you up all night long if you dare!
**Warning, this collection is not for the squeamish or faint of heart. There is graphic violence, rough language, and blood to spare. Please do not buy this book if you are easily offended or terrified! However if you enjoy Saw/Hostel-style horror and a good slasher flick, read on!
Overview: This collection includes... Fresh Meat: Serial Killer Death Match, need we say more? Widowmaker: A thriller for horror fans All Hallow's Eve: The one night it is BAD to be good! Club Death: Come for the dancing. Stay because, well, a madman has you trapped inside Rook: Let's stop the Apocolypse, people! Supernatural humorous horror Supper: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre style short story
This is not for the light hearted! I am not squimish and have a strong stomach. However, this is a series of books that if filled with nothing but murder, blood and lots of guts! I don't know what Ms. McCray has running through her mind when she comes up with this stuff...but I love it! She paints a gruesome picture that will make you look over your shoulder when you are out and about in the dark! Excellent series! To kick this series in the gut to begin with, you will be reading:
Fresh Meat A young woman disappears and is thrown into a room full of rapist and murderers. She is going to have to either fight or succumb to the violence. In the meantime, Detective Jake Braut has been reluctantly put on the case. After finally going to invistigate, he finds that this is going to be more than he bargined for. The only insight I can give you in this book is, you will not expect the ending to happen the way that is does. There is one huge twist that made me sit up in bed and say, "you have got to be kidding me!"
Widowmaker If you are into old horror movies, this is the book for you. There is a lot of blook and gore in this book. This book's focal point is the movie "Terror in the Trees." It has a feel of "The Ring" feel to it. In this book we start with Jake. But he disappears from the story after the first chapter. We have the FBI agent Derek Boulder come in and take things over. He is along the same lines of Jake Braut. He is reluctant to take this case. He has some personal issues he is struggling with throughout this entire book. You wonder if he will ever overcome those issues. If you want to know, you better read the book! (In my opinion, there better be a book to follow this! I have some issues with the characters that I want to find out what happen)
All Hallow's Eve: The one night it is BAD to be good... This book starts off with the murder of Father Marcus Gonzales. He is graphically murdered in his church. Detectives Ruth and Paxton are on the case to try and figure out who is behind these gruesome murderes. Only problem is, they aren't going to be prepared for what they encounter. This book will have tons of blood, torture and more than enough guts. Don't be reading while you eat if you have a squimish stomach!
Rook: Let's Stop the Apocalypse, People This was my favorite of the books. So many wonderful characters in this book. Rook, who is the so-called leader of a motley crew of peace keepers (if that is what you want to call them). You have my favorite, Beauty, the cross dressing handler. Tomahawk, who is pissed at Rook for getting him pulled back into the fight to protect the world. Fanny, the child in a woman's body. This is such a great story of how they all have something wonderful to bring to the fight. They are basically fighting the biblical God vs Satan war. I can't give you anymore hints than that...READ THIS BOOK! It's worth it!
Club Death A trip to a rave turns deadly for a trio of friends. This is a 3 chapter short story. It gives you a quick adventure that makes you glad you aren't a teenager again.
Supper It's a 1 chapter short story. All I can say is melting body parts! But worth the read!
The first couple of stories in this compilation were excellent, particularly the first one. There was such a major plot twist at the end that really shot me out of my chair. I was unbelievably shocked because I hadn't seen it coming.
As you go along, the stories stop meeting expectations. They begin to get boring, and eventually, I just wanted to stop reading altogether. i didn't, but I wanted to. The last couple of stories weren't worth the time. One of them ended so abruptly and I thought, "That's it? Was there ANY point to that one?" It seemed like a few chapters of random events thrown together that had nothing to do with each other and then just ended for no reason whatsoever. No build-up, no climax, no ending. It just stopped. WTF? It must be a work in progress for the author.
Anyway, it's definitely worth for the first few stories!
I rarely read short stories, just because i hate having to say goodbye to a character too soon, but i'm glad these were short though. While it was quite entertaining, the plots were a bit thin, but overall it was enjoyable. The first story "Fresh meat" i really enjoyed, especially the surprise twist at the end, could not believe it. That was a wow ending.
I enjoyed "Widowmaker" as well, a really twisted story, which was quite theatrical.
Overall, an enjoyable collection of books for horror fans.
This is a collection of horror stories, and almost all of them are really good. I found the last 2 to be ok (instead of great) but the other stores were really good. Particularly the first one! Great story and great ending (won't say more as I don't want to have any spoilers that might ruin it for you if you decide to read it yourself!) I didn't find the books as scary as the title might suggest, but definitely had me hooked! I found myself reading late into the night - always wanting to read 'just a little bit more'.
If you like the genre this is definitely worth it!
At first, I was wondering where all the good reviews came from as I got bored of this one after a few pages and set it aside. Fortunately, id forgotten why I never finished it and pulled it up again months later. Imaginative story telling with interesting twists. I will certainly be looking into more of her stuff!
eh I didn't care for the first story. It was like watching SAW but with no new twists . I couldn't get into the second story THE WIDOWMAKER seemed like it was taking forever to get to some sort of climax. DNF
Yes, these books are scary, and yes they are NOT for the faint of heart, but these books are very good, written to wrap you into the story. The were definitely thrilling, to say the least!
This book set was the best I've read in forever. The last few stories began a little slow and I thought I may stop but, soon as I thought it, the story intensified and I just couldn't put it down until finishing it.
every story better than the last. This collection made for suspenseful page turning reading. bizarre hair raising doesn't begin to describe these stories.
It was very good. although i would like to know the rest of the story in club death. it kept my heart pounding and me on the edge of my seat though i thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
