An informative but disjointed book. Watt presents the life of al-Ghazali but the book is very uneven and lacks insight. What redeems it somewhat is the careful manner in which the author uses his sources and the general scholarly tone of the work. However there seems to be much irrelevant material, there is no real structure and ultimately it takes away from the scholarship as a whole.
