The first time I met Casper Hart, I turned him down despite his good looks and obvious charm. I’d only just arrived at university, and a man like him was the last thing I needed to make me lose focus. The only problem? I had no idea who the hell he was. Rich, entitled, hot, and arrogant, no one walked away from Casper without paying a high price.Unfortunately for him, he’d chosen the wrong girl to pick a fight with.Unfortunately for me… Casper happened to live right next door, and he didn’t let up easily.Three years of endless torture later, it’s no secret to anyone that Casper and I share nothing but hate towards each other, going out of our way to cause as much pain and annoyance to the other as possible. But when a series of break-ins break out on campus, and my friends are all otherwise occupied, Casper ends up being the only person I can call upon to help me get out of a nasty situation. The only question now is at what cost? Because nothing Casper ever does for me comes free, and despite everyone else seeing him as the superhero, I know the truth. He’s nothing but a rotten Villain. One I can’t seem to stay away from no matter how hard I try.

Summery

Ainsley and Casper can't stand each other. That is an understatement. They can't be in the same room together without arguing. All that starts to change when Casper's roommate and her friend, Reggie, is offered a job planning an event for Casper's parents. Reggie asks Ainsley to help. Now she is spending a lot of time with Casper. It doesn't help that he lives next door. There is a very slim line between love and hate. Together with their friends, Imani, Freya (her roommates), Marvin, and Reggie ( his roommates), they embark on a twisted enemies to lovers tale.

My Thoughts

I am NOT a romance reader. It is not my genre. I AM a Natasha Preston reader. I picked this book up on a whim. (Mostly because if was free on Kindle Unlimited) I enjoyed every word. I will absolutely be trying some of her other romance books.

The plot was moving at a fast pace with plenty of twists to hold my interest. From the hassles of event planning, unexplained robberies, to a buried past rearing it's head I was fully engrossed.

The spice 🌶 wasn't overwhelming but well written to not throw the storyline off. Tasteful and romantic, you could feel the amount of care the characters felt for each other. (Even when they were fighting) the relationship felt real and natural. The execution of the trope was incredibly realistic.

The characters were fleshed out. It was easy to put myself in their place and feel what they felt. The character growth was exceptional. Both will learn and grow with each other. Overcoming their shortcomings and becoming better people for each other.

I greatly enjoyed the read. I couldn't put it down! My only complaint (and it's so minor it's barely worth mentioning) was that we aren't left with the kind of cliff hanging ending that has become a staple of Preston's thrillerbooks. Though I missed the players of the book when I was done reading it, it didn't leave me with questions or in need of more.

Villain is Natasha's recent standalone romance read. It's an enemies to lovers NA romance.

This one was right down the middle for me. It was enjoyable but nothing that stood out for me.

The story is told from Ainsley's POV only. I think not having Casper's POV hurt this book for me. I found Ainsley to be a bit whiny and unreasonable at times. The miscommunication between the two of them felt juvenile and it did not help that not having any POV from Casper made it worse.

The book flows fine and there isn't any unnecessary drama, which was nice. The plot is very surface level while the characters themselves were a bit more interesting and definitely kept the book entertaining.

Overall, it was just ok for me. Nothing that stood out but wasn't terrible either.

Villain is an entertaining enemies to lovers about two neighbors that can't quite get on the same page at the same time. Ainsley hates neighbor Casper for being a rich, self-absorbed playboy from their first meeting. She assumes her rejection of his interest has made them enemies despite them sharing a mutual friends circle. Everything changes drastically one night during a robbery where Ainsley is home alone. Casper runs to her aid, making Ainsley question everything she knows about him. That encounter brings them closer together and is the last match in a steamy explosion. However, after years of arguing and lack of communication, these two will still have a lot to overcome if they want more than a tumble between the sheets.

Ainsley is the narrator of this story, which brings an element of mystery to Casper's motives and feelings. He tends to keep things close to the chest, which makes things difficult for Aisnley to interpret. There was plenty of angst that I liked, though mostly rooted in communication lapses. I empathize with Ainsley as to why she couldn't be rational at times given her traumatic parental background. I loved Casper throughout the book, though. Even if he did questionable things at times or seemed over the top, I couldn't deny his love for Ainsley. He's obsessed and protective, yet loves to push her buttons. Their banter was enjoyable as they slung barbs back and forth that translated into heat. If you like angst filled romances with a strong hate to love vibe, this book is one you'll enjoy!

this could’ve been 5 stars if that stupid argument didn’t happen at the end.
Is it worth it to get angry for him asking his parents to give you a job? Using connections is a part of life atp. Sure, he shouldn’t have told them you were struggling but still, it helped you out and all you had to deal with was embarrassment. I hate when the authors add a random problem in the mix just bc they think they need to.
ANYWAYS: it was really good, i love their kind of toxic dynamic and also that he has a good relationship with his parents even tho he’s rich.

So this was my first read by this author.

These characters were crazy and toxic together for most of the book. Ainsley is ott and a winer. Casper is obsessive and has definite communication issues.

And … it was AWESOME to read 😏.

This was very bad. So much and so little happened in this book. The main characters were the definition of toxic. Sometimes it’s better to DNF than push through, wish I would have DNF’d.

Villain by Natasha Preston, in this story we meet Ainsley Miller, who in her first year at university meets Casper Hart and an immediate connection arises but for her it was about staying away from him, she would never admit that she finds him attractive because she is determined to focus on her studies since she is there thanks to a scholarship and he simply does not enter the equation, for Casper it was to notice her and he knew that he should conquer her but she was not convinced by his charms and simply rejected him, and for Casper this was a hard pill to swallow because he was used to girls throwing themselves at his feet, but not Ainsley, from that moment they become something like enemies, Casper pressures her and torments her every chance he gets, but she doesn't let herself be intimidated and still confronts him, and when many times she tries to ignore him that is not easy when Casper lives right next to her and she must listen to his adventures, but when things start happening on campus and one night Ainsley is in danger, receives Casper's help, this leaves her full of doubts and wondering if he won't be as bad as she thought, after that night everything between them changes and they will have to face what they feel for each other.
This story will captivate you from the beginning, it's funny, somewhat intense, with a bit of suspense and angst, but with sweet moments, of passion and of course love. The truth is that I totally enjoy this story and absolutely love all the characters. This is my first story by this author and after this I know it won't be the last. Highly recommended!!

Altamente Recomendada!!

Villain is a new standalone from Natasha Preston. It is an enemies to lovers story about Casper Hart and Ainsley Miller. To her he is evil and she hates him. Their banter is entertaining and the pent up sexual tension between them is palpable.

They met the first week of university. She had watched him flirt with other women so
immediately made up her mind about him and shut him down when he approached as didn’t want to be one of his conquests and the hate campaign started. Then for Ainsley things got worse when they moved next door to each other. Now she just has to survive the last four months of university.

To her Casper is a cocky, broody guy who is rich and privileged, while she is on a scholarship and has to work hard. They have spent the years fighting and being awful to each other. He is hostile towards her but she loves arguing with him and gives as good as she gets. She has always assumed her rejection of him was the reason and finds him very infuriating. They constantly bicker but she can’t deny the push and pull between them.

Casper constantly drops hints about his true feelings and he is always watching her with heated and intense eyes. They have the same circle of friends who all try to convince her she is wrong about him and suspect he likes her. An attempted robbery at her house finds her turning to him for help. He shows her that he can be nice, understanding and very protective. He wants to prove he is not the monster she thinks he is and is there when she needs him.

There are secrets, lack of communication and lots of angst as both try to navigate a relationship. She doesn’t want to want him but when they stop fighting, they have very passionate and explosive sex. They have to overcome their parental problems and she has to learn to trust him. When her past causes problems and his attempts to show her he has changed back fires, doubts cloud her judgement. Has too much happened between them for them to survive.

It is all told from her POV so definitely her side of the story. I felt there was so much more to Casper and was amused at how what he did all made sense to him. He was crazy and totally obsessed about her but couldn’t find a way to express his feelings. Their relationship is certainly an interesting one with lots of ups and downs but I must admit I started wondering who the villain was because I thought she was as bad as him. At the end I was pleased for Casper and liked seeing his sense of humour shine through.

I maybe should give 2 stars because I did finish this and that's my usual rating for finished but was bored. Here, I was really bored. And I know this is a Y/A read but the entire thing was very juvenile. I mean, three years of them fighting because of misunderstandings and continued failures to communicate even after they were together, that was not good.

I understand the author thought it made for a hot encounter when she finally did have them get together but it was very immature and she continued with the ongoing immature misunderstandings to the end. That was the author's only excuse to cause melodrama between them and It made for a juvenile book with very little actual story. .

As for the writing, there are wrong words littering every page, like this at the end, "Feeling electricity zap through my veins as I tough her. “You really are a terrible drinker". Clearly that should have said "tell her",not "tough her" And there were lots of these wrong word mistakes, so I don't think this has been edited.

Even with the lacking of editing and wrong words on almost every page, the writing might not be the worst I've ever come across, but it was still very superfical. Even their physical descriptions were basic, and there were no heated scenes, it would simply say they had lots of sex. The writing also didn't evoke any emotion. I just didnt care about it or the characters.

This was all very dull, the writing and the story both basic. The characters had a little depth to them but not enough for me to want to read their stories, if this is a series. because there wasn't really a story here This was very simplistic and light on story, it's only two younger adults finally gettibg together at the end of Uni, drinking a lot, with drama thrown in from immaturity and some very over the top family drama.

When an author is new to me, like this author is, this being the first book I've read by Natasha Preston, I usually check out at least two or three of any author's books before saying this, but I have zero interest in trying anything else by this author. Again, this isn't terrible, I have read worse, but this is just too boring. It was such a nothing of a story that it really felt pointless and a waste of time to read.

Casper Hart set his sights on her the moment she wandered onto campus, but no amount of charm could win her over... she turned him down flat. And that's just not something that he is use to, normally girls fall over themselves to gain his attention, but not Ainsley, she was completely resistant to him. Which set off a war of epic proportions, he pushed her buttons and tormented her every chance he got. Then one night a tragedy brings unexpectedly brings them together... and the war seems to come to a cease. Or does it spawn a war of a different kind, one where love might be involved?

The pages of this expertly penned romance had me completely transfixed the whole way through, the words pulled me in and just wouldn't let me go. These two played the enemies to lovers game quite well, both secretly wanted one another, but maintained their "hate" stance in public quite well and loved to push each other's buttons every chance they got. They'd begin to battle, lose their sense, then almost give in, only to leave me hanging once more... the anticipation of will they, won't they bout killed me.

Then one night changes things between them, Ainsley was in danger and it was her "enemy" Casper that came to save the day, and while she appreciated the saving part she was left a little confused by it too. It left her wondering if he really could be a nice guy, one that she could trust, one that she might be able to trust with her heart?

I loved every moment of this one, the words tormented and touched my heart, the characters had me enamored at first meet, and the ending came far to quickly, I honestly didn't want to let these two go when that last page came. It was hands down one of the best enemies to lovers stories I have read this year!! Highly recommend!!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Ainsley just can't swallow Casper being anywhere near her air space. After their first encounter, she has placed him firmly in the ego so big he can't see his feet category.
She also dislikes the way his scent, when he stands too close, stimulates her erogenous zones. Or how his eyes seem to see right through her to the past she is hiding.
She tries to avoid him but it isn't easy:
A - he lives next door
B- she is now working for his parents
C- he is the only person who can help her

This is a new adult enemy to lovers (more a miscommunication to understanding) light suspense romance
The story is told from Ainsley's POV - Casper does get a bit at the end. For me, I believe I would have had a better connection or maybe more patience with Ainsley if Casper had a voice.
I had a bit of trouble with Ainsley - Her behavior and attitude were beyond infantile at times. Casper really hadn't done anything to deserve it IMO.
Casper on the other hand was a saint - he was so patient with Ainsley's constant remarks. Even though he didn't have a voice I could tell by the body clues some of his thoughts.
Off my rant back to the story
The first few chapters were a bit slow but once the story picks up and they spend more time together I became invested in their outcome. There is a lot of back-and-forth banter along with a great deal of miscommunication. Casper tries so hard to get through to Ainsley but her walls are so high up. I did enjoy Casper finding ways to knock it down brick by brick.
I do wish we got more from Casper.

Classist Hero Til The End

Wow, so hes not just cruel, he is reallt classist. He enjoys stroking the stressors of the poor woman. Poverty causes most chronic illnesses and most death.

This is a dire "two sides" middle class, sanitised story that misuses the angst of the poor and tries to contrast it with a dehumaniser.

He treats women terribly, dehumanising them into conquests or worse, totems with which to piss her off.

You can always tell its the perspective of someone from privilege when the hero needs to have something terrible happen to him so we don't have to address his chronic toxicity since the start of the book.

Take a look at an emotion wheel, Love is never a motivator for toxic actions, for kicking someone when they are down because you enjoy that you know they do not drive.

This isn't villainry. Its classism. Given class issues cause diabilities too, its ableist as well.

Remember when your traumatiser said he was traumatising your ability to sleep and rest and be well, because he was "attracted" to you and you were like 'awk sure, what is a little bit of neuroses and trauma for the poor girl'.

He sure loves the idea of controlling her life financially.

Sick.

Also, when does the "hes a sex gawd" bullshit end? Orgasms are taken, not given. Every woman screaming.

Like what age is the author? 13?

What to expect

Ainsley and Casper are neighbors and go to the same university. They are worlds apart in her eyes, he’s rich, she’s not. They have a mutual hatred of some sort for each other but no idea why. They say, it’s a fine line between love and hate and they were definitely teetering on that line.

I really liked the character buildup for these two. You could honestly feel the tension between them the entire time until they snapped. I don’t want to give too much away but I loved these two! Casper was honestly completely different from what Ainsley thought once she took the chance and got to know him.

My only small complaint was that I wish we had more of Casper’s view point than just the epilogue. I would have really loved to see what his thoughts were throughout the book

I do love a good enemies-to-lovers story and Villain is soooo good. This narrative is told through Ainsley’s POV and I loved this. Not having Casper’s POV throughout the main body of the novel kept me intrigued to discover the reasons for his actions. In fact, I was desperate to learn why he behaved in the way that he did. I loved that my thoughts and feelings towards him continuously changed as their journey unfolded. I wasn’t always certain how this storyline would conclude and I enjoyed the twists and turns along the way.

I loved witnessing the interactions between Casper and Ainsley. Their close circle of friends adds to this storyline perfectly too. I do believe that this narrative ended at the appropriate time, however, I can be rather greedy and I would love to see more of the couple now that they have reached the next chapter in their lives. I hope they both are happy and successful.

Natasha Preston has penned another engaging and entertaining read. This novel brought out the perfect mix of emotions in me. I absolutely love the moment that stopped my heart and I held my breath. If the author had been in the room with me, she would have definitely received a telling off for that! LOL.

Another must-read from an author who is an instant one-click of mine.

Casper and Ainsley

He fall first
Enemies to lover

College students

Spiced 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Ainsley is a strong woman a student and a caring person.
She doesn’t get along with Casper her neighbor because he been an asshole to her since freshman when she told him no. She been abandon by her parents And doesn’t like to ask for help. She put walls up toward Casper when she around him.

Casper is becoming a lawyer and he a little jaded his parent weren’t parent nanny took care of him until he was send to border school so he doesn’t know how to express his emotions. the one thing is he obsessed with Ainsley since the moment he saw her and he been trying to get close to her.

Until one night when someone break in Ainsley house and the one person she is Casper he come rushing in to rescue her and that when she start to see him more than an enemy. Ainsley find out a secret and it’s break her heart she feel embarrassed.

Then Ainsley parent come looking for her and it’s bad and someone get hurts. I love the storyline I couldn’t get enough I honestly wanted more.

I’m forever a sucker for enemies to lovers. Especially when one of them have always loved the other one!!
Ainsley and Casper have never gotten along, they can barely be in the same room together without arguing. The best part is their neighbors, they share a wall and in the same friend group, so they are almost always together.
Ainsley couldn’t even stand being in the same house as him, but when Ainsley and her roommate hear someone jump their back fence one night. They have Casper stay over just in case they are the next victims of the burglars that have been robbing houses in their neighborhood. That was the night she discovered; Casper might not be as bad as she thought he was. Over the next few weeks few weeks things between them develop from not standing each other to him protecting her.
But what could develop between two people who have spent the last three years fighting? Could Ainsley put everything that has happened behind them?
I recommend reading this story and learning their messy story. Thank you Natasha and her team for an advanced copy of this story!

🔥ARC REVIEW: VILLAIN BY NATASHA PRESTON🔥
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Friendliest Ghost You've Seen...
"Villain," an enemies-to-lovers college romance, is told through Ainsley's (FMC) point of view. Ainsley, who did not grow up with money or positive role models, dislikes her neighbor Casper for various reasons. But mainly because he is wealthy, she perceives him as a player who leads his life opposite her. Her feelings shift when he comes to her rescue, and they spend more time together.

There are spicy scenes in "Villain," although subjectively, they are low on the spice scale. I do like that Casper falls first. I did enjoy Ainsley's sense of humor and internal dialogue. Her "aha" moments were quite emotional and conveyed well as a typical young college student. However, not knowing what Casper was thinking impacted my overall story. I did feel like I was thrown a bone, though.

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

I wouldn't call this a dark romance. It has a moments in it but it will also have you laughing at times. This is the story of Casper and Ainsley. These two are neighbors and they do not get along much at all. She hates him because she thinks that he is rich, entitled and a self absorbed playboy. This was her first impression of him. When he shows interest in her she rejects him and she assumes that is why he can't stand her. They are enemies but still have quite a few mutual friends in common. However, one night when a robbery is taking place he runs to the rescue and this causes her to reconsider everything she has ever thought about him. For years they have hated each other, don't know that much about each other but there could potentially be something amazing between them if they can get over their past. This is a enemies to lovers story and it is really good. I loved reading it.

Enemies to lovers is not my usual jam but I really enjoyed this one. This was definitely a miscommunication trope but I can’t say I even noticed until I had finished.
This book is written in Ainsley’s POV which gave mystery to Casper’s real feelings and intentions but I can honestly see that he worships the very ground she walks on. Caspers tells Ainsley quite often that she is dramatic and I have to agree 😂 especially near the end- if only she had spoken to him.
The interactions between them when they argued was hilarious! They bounced off each other and I could feel the pent up chemistry.
This book gave me all sorts of emotions. The angst was perfect and I felt the book concluded at just the right time for the characters. I am sad to let them go though.
Natasha, I have already told you this but I will say it again, this is my absolute favourite of yours.

When Ainsley started university, she wasn’t looking for a relationship, so when Casper Hart asked her out, she declined. Not knowing who he was, or what he was capable of. The worst part, he’s her next door neighbor.

Casper Hart is rich and entitled, no one tells him no. For the next three years after Ainsley told Casper no, he’s made her life a living hell. There’s wasn’t a thing he wouldn’t do, to make her pay.

After a series of break outs happen in their neighborhood, Ainsley has no one else to turn to, but Casper. There’s so much angst between the two. I loved the suspense as well with the break ins happening in their neighborhood.

That was the most anticlimactic title ever. It was so anticlimactic that it drove me to write my first review on Goodreads. The 'villain' in question is like the mildest male protagonist ever encountered in the history of romance novels. With a title like that you'd expected a crazy alpha male with a domineering personality but no. Oh no. He just likes to argue and being unnecessarily mysterious. I guess he has some weirdly stalkerish tendencies, but he's go nothing on Edward Cullen.
Perhaps it's wrong to expect a book with this title to have some kinky sex going on, but this dude's kink seems to be bing called a bastard. Whatever.

What really bugs me is that the plot is weak, and some things just don't make any sense. Like the stabbing. The arresting. And honestly the guy keeping her hair ties is just too much.
There was potential but I feel the plot wasn't developed to its full potential

Villain by Natasha Preston
4.25/5

This was my first Natasha Preston book and boy was it a fun one. This book was a quick and easy read and it was also enemies to lovers? What’s not to love about that.

Casper and Ainsley tip toe around each other constantly to the point of their friends calling them out on it. But then again, Ainsley and Casper haven’t liked each other since Freshers Week at uni. And yet, they always find themselves drawn to each other.

The supporting cast of characters are top notch. Shout out to Reggie for being my favorite of them all. The banter between all of the friends is great, but especially between Casper and Ainsley.

Casper is so hard to read at times, but then again we are only seeing the book through Ainsley’s eyes. And yet, you can’t help but root for them. And the tension? Chef’s kiss.

Much thanks for the author.

Wholly captivated and in love with this pair. I’ve not read Natasha Preston before and this was a great introduction and I’ll be looking for more of her work.
Casper and Ainsley jumped from the pages (tablet), their “hate”, banter, humour, chemistry, tension, danger, suspense, spice, twists and emotion combined with a great group of support characters gave me a story I couldn’t put down and a HEA that left me well satisfied.
Casper intrigued me, this is told entirely from Ainsley’s POV, I never knew his thought processes or motivation and that had me turning the pages furiously to find out what was going to happen next.
Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from Wordsmith Publicity and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

I cannot tell you how much I adored this book, especially a certain boy next door. 😰 I feel like I should write this review solely in emojis because 🥵😍😱😩😜🤤and😈! Yep, that pretty much sums it all up.

Casper is everything you look for in a bad boy book boyfriend, and Natasha Preston keeps the reader hooked from the very beginning of this book. There are twists and turns you'll never see coming, and I think the naughty scenes in this one are Tasha's hottest of any novel she's written so far. Holy hell!

Well-written, engaging, spicy, and full of character, this story will have you all in a chokehold and keep you there. Cannot recommend enough.

Bravo, Natasha.

Wow! From page one I was unable to put this book down. I literally carried my kindle with me everywhere in case I got a few minutes to read. This story pulled me in and I don’t think it will let me go for a while. Ainsley and Casper are amazing together in every interaction. This is one of those books I wish i could erase from my memory so I could read it again having no idea what is going to happen. Towards the end I was reading so fast to find out what happened that I found myself going back to reread because I was missing sentences. I could feel my body tensed up. This book is amazing!

Oh my gosh, I loved this novel! This novel had me hooked after the first chapter, I could not put it down. Even at the end of the novel I did not want it to end. This is one of my favorite types of novels, enemies to lovers. This novel was so good! I loved the dialogue and banter. I loved Ainsley and Casper. I loved Casper and was rooting for him throughout the novel! Together they had great chemistry. This novel kept me guessing what was coming next. I love when a novel can make me laugh, keeps me guessing and ends with a happy heart. This novel checked all of my boxes. I can't wait to see what is coming next.

VILLAIN by Natasha Preston.

Oh boy the tension between these two was so palpable. This story was a good one. It is Ainsley and Casper’s story. These two are neighbors and they cannot for the life of it stand each other. I mean the really can’t be in the same room with out being at each other’s throats. However when Reggie asks Ainsley to help to plan Casper's parents event. This causes Casper and Ainsley to spend a lot of time together in which they start to change the perspective they had of each other. The chemistry soon surfaces and it gets hard to ignore. I really enjoyed this book and the characters it was an easy book to read and one I would recommend.

hated it

I really genuinely hated this books. Every character was insufferable, the protagonist was frequently unreasonable, and the two characters weren't really "enemies" as in "enemies to lovers" as they were two assholes who hated each other. (Side note that trope basically NEVER works unless there's like A War) The author inexplicably added an additional unnecessary conflict in the last 5% of the book (something that they've done in other books as well) which completely disrupted the flow of the story. The saddest part is that inexplicable poorly timed additional conflict was the most exciting part of the book, most of which is exceedingly boring.
