This collection visits Egypt, Greece, and Rome with stories that explore alternate histories and mythologies … or maybe not so alternate. Christine Morgan’s impressive knowledge of ancient times and places combines with her unparalleled writing to bring legend to life like no classroom ever could.
Temples, Tombs, and Terrors by Christine MorganTales from Egypt: “The Shabti-Maker” delves into the sacredness of the shabti in a dark and moving story of death, devotion, and sacrilege. “Ferreau’s Curse” is a suspenseful tale of obsession and dark secrets. And “Sons of Apophis” is an enthralling story of Gods and Goddesses, political subterfuge, and mysterious, deadly warriors.
Tales from Greece: “Follow Me” is a tale of strong and resourceful women in the oldest profession surviving during dark times. And “The Ithiliad” is a brilliant alternate telling of the Trojan War.
Tales from Rome: “Fecunditati Augustae” is a chilling story of ancient Goddesses, dark rituals, and an empress’s desperation. And “The Eighth Hill” is a fun and compelling tale of strange and ominous omens and the entertaining omen-reader trying to sort them out.
Journey into myth, legend, history, and ancient beliefs with Christine Morgan in this compelling collection. A highly recommended reading experience.
A collection of stories by Christine Morgan, either set in or relating to, ancient cultures such as Pharaonic Egypt or mighty Rome. My favorite story is Follow Me, followed closely by Ferreau's Curse. As with most short story collections, not all tales appeal to everyone, but fans of the Cthulhu Mythos will find several tales that have familiar aspects to them. I enjoyed reading this collection, and am repeatedly impressed by Ms. Morgan's skill and talent.
This isn't a book. It's a journey through time. The mythology, magic, bloody wars, old Gods and ancient secrets of Egypt, Greece and Rome. It was like I was there, that's how good Morgan was at bringing these worlds to life. My favorite i have to say is Sons of Apophis. The serpent warriors of Egypt. The way the story seamlessly went from before to after and Khemet's love for Sia made it a truly captivating read.
