Charlotte, Sip, and Lisabelle are shocked when they aren’t allowed to return to Paranormal Public for their winter semester. Instead of rejoining their friends at Locke, they decide to break into Public and get some answers. Unfortunately, they just end up with more questions. In Charlotte’s fourth semester she is torn between finding out what happened to her mother, protecting the artifacts on the Wheel that could destroy all the paranormals, and following her heart. To make matters worse, there are new threats and a new President of Public. Luckily the threats aren’t directed toward Charlotte, at least not entirely, and Charlotte still has her loyal friends to keep her company and help her along the way. She will need all the help she can get to meet the challenges that come her way.

First of all, in what reality can a young couple 'sleep together' without it either immediately or at least eventually leading to sex? Really? Is this something that young readers should be believing? And in what reality could the teachers in a school continually put the students in danger without it leading to injury and death? I'm willing to mentally roll my eyes while reading YA books, but this series is pushing even my limits.
This installment did have a good deal of action, however. It introduced an interesting new character, who was a ghost. The group of friends continue to be loyal and dedicated to each other, which is great for a YA story. The premise of the different magics in this World continues to draw me into the story. For these reasons only, I'm not opposed to reading more of the series. But I am still hoping that the students--and, more importantly, the teachers--will grow up a little so that my 'eye rolling' can catch a break.
Better than the last book, this one was filled with a lot more adventure. The author's descriptions of events is very good, bringing them to life for the reader and making this a page turner. However, the books contain many typographical errors that are distracting. Ms. Edwards needs a new editor. This book did a better job of progressing the story so I actually feel like it's going somewhere which is a good. I had wondered how many more of these I would read after the last one, but I'm glad I took the time to read this one. I'll definitely be reading book 6.
In the fifth book of paranormal publics the girls and Lough start back to the school after the massive fight at the Locke. Now that they know Lanca is safe and protected they needed to get back to their education. But they are stopped at the gates by Professor Erikson and Dove and told that the semester has been canceled because of the recent events at the Locke. They don’t buy it. So lough stays outside the grounds while the girls try to sneak on to campus. Wasn’t hard though. They got right on, but were greeted with sharp projectiles raining down on them. They sneak into the catacombs under the long building so they can get to the Airlee dorms, but no such luck on the danger front. Fire follows them and they barely make it out alive. Seeing no other students around the wonder if school was really canceled when they find Trafton. He fills them in on the not so pleasant news, but what they weren’t expecting was to be caught while getting a closer look. Will the dynamic group survive the likes of the Valedication clan and their mother? What will happen to Paranormal Public while it’s ruled by the bad guys? I felt heart sick reading this book. Not only was Keller not with the girls, but Lough wasn’t a huge part either. But girl power was definitely there, and Trafton really helped out in this book. Not a fan of Vanni but who is. I really hope Camilla gets hers one of these times. Snob. All in all loved it. Great read. Hated how dark and gloomy it was but saw it coming. Favorite was the dream scenes.
We pick up where we left off from the last book with an "all points bulletin" out to kill the last elemental and the four friends are being refused entry to Public. Lisabelle is as snippy and angry as ever and they are determined to find out what is happening at the school regardless of the consequences. A new President has now been installed at Public and President Vale is determined to destroy Charlotte and any paranormal that stands in her way. Desperate to protect her friends and the other students, Charlotte must learn to stand on her own two feet if she has any hope of destroying the demons who Malle has sent after her.
Now that Malle is able to hurt Charlotte when she dreams, She will have to endure some sleepless nights if she is going to find the artefacts before it is too late. Keller swoops in to save the day once again and it is a feat he has mastered quite well, what's not to love about a fallen angel? A great series where the power of friendship and loyalty prove that they are force to be reckoned with.
If no one tells Charlotte what is going on, then how can they get mad at her for acting on her own to solve what she sees as problems? But they manage just that, they try to keep her in the dark as much as possible; "we have more protection on you than you can know..." and expect her to leave things at that. Never mind the people trying to kill or injure her, the number of times demons have gone after her, or the amazing amount of times she has saved everyone....Just trust that the council has things under control. I also don't get why the Pixies are getting special privileges when it was a rogue band of pixies that attacked President Malle's family. The best that I can figure is that it is because they are so very willing to turn their backs on their fellow paranormals. To be honest I don't think I like where any of this is going. One of the book descriptions for a future book is a spoiler unto itself and I do not know if I want to finish reading these. I will check the description of book 6 and perhaps finish that one before I decide to pursue this series or not.
Just to let you know in advance, I read all of the books in the series.
It's true that the English is not the best and that there are parts where she skips ahead and you get mixed with the time line, but overall, the idea behind the writing is good, and although sometimes I felt the characters where kind of plastic and psychologically boxed, the background story leads you to find out the rest.
Yes, I spent most of the time correcting the English used and yes, even I though I could write it better. Yes, I got frustrated that such a good concept could be so inconsistent and so irregular..but I felt better after reading them all.
If you go past the small things (like why suddenly it's night after only a few sentences or how come the everyday life is completely omitted and you just skip a few months ahead without any warning) the story is actually interesting.
Elemental Fire is book five of the Paranormal Public series by Maddy Edwards.
Charlotte, Sip, Lisabelle, and Lough are locked out of Paranormal Public and told the semester is cancelled. Pretty sure they're being lied to, the three girls decide to break into the school and are soon trapped in a semester from hell... or demon-sided dark mages. Not to mention that she has to protect the Mirror Arcane, somehow figure out how to save her school, and not get killed in the unequal Tactical challenges.
Yeah, it's not an easy year for Charlotte. Especially with Lough and Keller on the outside. And then there's more about her mother to learn ... and those truths might not be ones she wants to hear.
I do like these stories, but this author SERIOUSLY needs a better editor or someone to closely read the books before they're published. There are so many spelling/grammatical/continuity errors in all of this series of books that it makes them almost painful to read. I keep on because I am solidly hooked and want to see how it all ends. I have never been a quitter, but if some of these mistakes continue, I will be forced into it for the first time!
These books have become ok. I enjoyed the first one alot but they kinda have gone downhill since the. One issue I have is these characters are supposed to be 19 and 20 years old in "paranormal college" and while that is still young, they talk and act like they are sophomores in high school. I don't think they act their age.
now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this book.
3.5 stars. I like the characters in this series and the general plot, but the plot gets bogged down with too much dialogue between the characters that doesn't advance the plot. Major conflicts seem to resolve too quickly in each book.
