The title itself makes a pretty strong statement that most starry-eyed young ministers aren't thinking about. There is danger in hosting God's anointing in earthen vessels. So much of church history is riddled with sorrow-filled stories of human brokenness. If you are like me, you can feel despair when some amazing ministers disrupt the fruitfulness of ministry due to moral failure, burnout, or some other preventable thing. Ravenhill takes this pain point and blazes a trail by identifying 12 principles that protect you from the common downfall of once effective ministers.

Ravenhill writes with sage-like tone that has not lost hope that people can walk the Psalm 24 path. Yet, his personal experiences and that of his late father, Leonard Ravenhill, grant the reader a footing that one can trust. I gave it 4 stars only because this title made me think that he would give more examples of people who did and did not survive the anointing. I was looking for more "case studies" on this issue, but the content was really enriching. I found the introduction to be the kind of content that I was hoping for in the remainder of the book.

If you are in ministry and feel wobbly in your leadership, this may be a great book to pick up to ground oneself in strong values of how to live.

Absolutely crucial read for anyone in ministry! So many pitfalls could be avoided by not only reading this book, but following its wisdom. I can not recommend any stronger.

Without adding any spoilers to this review, I enjoyed the first few chapters which actually made up the majority of the book. It also made up the majority of what I took from the book. The last few chapters felt kind of a disappointment after tackling the first few chapters.

For the two items I make mention of above is why I give this book a 3-star review instead of higher. It is also a book that taught me to make sure I read the whole book before recommending a book so highly to others. I would still have recommended it but just not as enthusiastically like I did.

Enjoy
