hat stark angefangen, aber dann auch stark nachgelassen. Ich habe ein bisschen mehr Einordnung und weniger simple Aufzählung erwartet

the attraction/repulsion chapter is great, but for a book entirely about the grotesque it didn’t really go into any topic in any meaningful way.. but i guess i didn’t realise it was introductory so that’s my fault. still pretty disappointing though.

гротеск почали досліджувати не так уже й давно: вольфганг кайзер написав основоположну працю про гротеск у середині п'ятдесятих, а монографія бахтіна про рабле і сміхову культуру з'явилася в 1965 році. зовсім молода тема. рутледжівський "гротеск" тим більше свіжий, позаминулорічний.
у цій книжці особливо хороша перша, теоретична частина (розділи 1 і 2). третій розділ - перехідний, там автори говорять про гротеск і монструозність в античних і середньовічних текстах, усе ще з достатньо цікавими і грунтовними теоретичними узагальненнями. з четвертого розділу вони остаточно переходять до розгляду окремих текстів, і там зв'язний наратив про гротеск починає трохи провисати, його замінює радше колекція окремих віньєток на всі смаки, від джонатана свіфта до трешового кіно і саус парку.
