Child abuse investigator Bo Bradley takes up the search for the family of a Native American boy, a quest that leads her to a multi-national medical company, where she uncovers a conspiracy of greed and murder.
As always, I enjoyed this Bo Bradley thriller. There's only two more listed on Amazon and I've just purchased and downloaded number six. Hope Me. Padgett continues this series. It is awesome.
Another in a unique series with a uniquely gifted 'heroine'. I love all Abigail Padgett's "Bo Bradley" series, and wish there were more books in it. This is my third reading of the series, and they're as good as when I first discovered them.
Bo Bradley is a Court Dependency Investigator with San Diego’s Child Protective Services. She also suffers from Bi Polar Disorder and is coming out of a deep depression after losing her lifetime companion, her dog Mildred. When a friend and fellow patient at the Ghost Flower Lodge, a sub acute psychiatric facility is murdered leaving behind a 6 year old boy, Bo is determined to find out who murdered her friend and protect his son from becoming a “victim” to the system. Bo wonders if the financial problems of the Neji Indians who run the lodge could possibly be related, especially when she discovers suspicious actions regarding a corporation that is interested in buying the lodge.
While overall I enjoyed this book, I find that it is a struggle to get into Ms. Padgett’s novels and this one was no exception. I felt like I was forcing myself to read the book and then as I read on, I became more interested in the story and wanted to see it through to the end. It’s always interesting to get into the mind of the main character, Bo Bradley, and see the world as only Bo does.
This book was better than her second in the Bo Bradley series. Kind of a jumbled mystery about an Indian-run clinic for mentally disturbed; a take-over of the clinic by a notorious firm; a shooting of one of the patients at the clinic and attempted kidnapping and murder of his son; a shark killing of a wealthy woman (which might also be a murder) and someone trying to drive Bo crazy by calling and playing a tape of a dog barking (her terrier just died), and her romance with a pediatrician heating up. As usual, Bo solves the mystery, almost gets herself thrown off a cliff and saves the day for all involved.

Somehow, this plot I liked less than any of the other in the serie so far maybe because the child who needed help was less sympathetic? There was also less of Dr. Lamarche in this book and I do really like him.
