DNF.

The plot seemed so so interesting but I could not get past the glaringly obvious grammatical errors.
“There value..” no.
“Siding the hairs on my arms..” no.

I feel like most romance novels now has so much going on. This was a nice cozy read with good characters, and I definitely loved our FMC Sadie.

I received this ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own!

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

⮞ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 ⮜
Eira - I enjoyed her character and the fact she was a thief and would do these odd jobs. Also, her life story was sad but that made her be more independent and more strong, plus I loved her relationship with the wolf, it was so nice reading about that.
Kol - Can't really tell if I liked him, hated him or nothing I just felt for someone who was portrayed in so many bad ways you would think we'd see a bit of that side too, instead we've seen only the good side which was a bit surprising. Yes, he's up to no good and stuff like that but I wanted to see a bit more of that darker side. We did see his family dark side, or at least on some of them tho.
Overall the rest of the characters in the story are intriguing and they have quite a lot of secrets and I hope we're going to see more of Inkari because I really liked her.

⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜
The world-building was interesting. All these realms, traveling some one to the other, their history and complicated names I just loved it.

⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜
I liked the thievery trope, especially since I've not really read it that often before. I enjoyed Eira's relationship with her wolf and the multitude of secrets that got revealed throughout the story and definitely the scenes with her and Kol. However, I felt the story to lack that wow factor when something was revealed to us. I felt the scenes didn't quite had that impact on me to make me go "wtf" they just felt flat. However the shower scene was definitely eye catching.

⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜
The story isn't a clean romance but also not overly smutty. I would say is more on the erotica side of things, with enough details to spark your interest and keep you interested in what's going on. There aren't very big TWs in the story, there's mention of the loss of a parent, some fighting scenes with different creatures, and I think that was it. The book didn't trigger me.

The plot itself was really interesting, and I really liked Eira (FMC) and Kol (MMC). I was interested in the whole book because of how good the story was, but ultimately the romance was lacking. I loved that it was a reluctant allies to lovers and a quick short spicy scene, but it just felt like forced attraction and kind of robotic, like there really wasn’t any chemistry between the two characters. I think the ending was really good, but as a romance reader, this wasn’t the book for me.

I received an arc and this is my honest review!

Happy release day 😊

”In fact, the next time you harass my girl will be the last time you ever breathe.”

A Gods Promise is a Nordic retelling, based on the kidnapping of Idun. Our FMC (21) has been hiding her whole life, covered in tattoos that she doesn’t know the significance of. When her Ma passes as she just reaches 16, Eira resorts to thievery and hunting to keep both her and Fenir alive. She does whatever it takes to keep herself hidden, living a solitary life with only Fen as true company.

That is until one day, she receives a job. One with very little information that causes a ripple of events that Eira doesn’t know how to deal with.

Kol (based on Loki), the god of mischieve has his eyes on one thing and one thing only. Inkeri’s Apple. And he needs help…

The pair of them are thrust together, jumping through realms and hiding from The All Father and his trust eyes that are everywhere.

I really liked the plot of this book! For the most part Eira is likeable, though she does have some super bratty moments with those foot stomping. 😂 Kol, he’s sneaky but with Eira he’s sweet. You can see how he warms to her the more the book progresses, though he’s been a flirt right from the start. It’s a super easy read and there’s not super amounts of world building dumped on your feet. I had a lot of highlights reading this but that was more for translations so I could keep track of what things meant.

Fen the little sidekick is just adorable. He might only be a wolf but he’s expressive, giddy and super cute. He’s such a loyal, good boy, helping to protect Eira. And performing little tricks for bacon. 👀

I’d absolutely recommend this book. I hope someone sees this and gives it a chance!

THIS BOOK!! Ok, so, this is a retelling of the Nordic tale “The Kidnapping of Idun”. Eira is a fierce, 20 year old who can wield magic due to ancient ruins that have been tattooed down her arms, and has her trusty wolf sidekick, Fenrir, with her at all times. She’s on her own, since her mother passed away a few years ago, so she’s relied on her skills as a thief to get her by. After getting hired to steal a ring, she meets the blonde, gorgeous, tattooed and muscular Kol (Loki) and he offers her a job that will change her life forever. As she embarks on this journey wIth Kol, she learns that her mother has kept some MAJOR secrets from her, and not everything is as it seems. If you enjoy Norse mythology, or are even just a tiny bit intrigued by it (like me) you’ll thoroughly enjoy this book. It truly has something of everything: magic, banter, gods & goddesses, giants, elves, dwarves, action, slow burn, spice, mystery… I read it in three days, and cannot WAIT for part two because that cliffhanger has me on the edge!!!

I was interested in the story right away, just from reading the synopsis of this book.

But... it didn't start as strong as I imagined it would be. The first part of the book had some repetitive moments regarding the survival of the heroine and the description of the characters she was encountering. There were even some parts exaggerated in order to form a more frightening situation but it was just over the top, even for a fantasy.
Then, somewhere in the middle part of the story, everything got better. The dialog, the writing, the plot ...everything was so enjoyable to read.

As for the story itself, it has a really interesting premise and it is inspired by Norse mythology so if you like the world of gods and their mysteries, this would be interesting to you. There were some rushed parts while some parts could have been brought up sooner, so the pacing was a bit off but it got wrapped up in the end. It does end in a cliffhanger, so be prepared to need the next book to find out what will happen next.

I received an eARC for this book and this is my honest review.

This was a decent read, but not a five star one. There was too much in this story that is the same as what I've read from mythology. Some details were the same and then things were changed, and it caused a dissonance for me when I read that kept me from getting into the story completely. It was still a good story, but it just felt too much like its origins to stand on it's own. At least for me.

Too childish. Some of the things written can just be told as the story goes instead of just stating random facts in the middle of the story.

I also feel like this book is written like a middle schooler wrote it. There is no depth or world building.

Too many spelling, punctuation and grammar issues. Read like a yr 7’s first foray into writing fantasy.

In a God’s Promise we follow Eira and her Familiar Fenrir. Eira is special, different from everyone else, but noone can know. She only has her true wolf Fenrir as a friend and companion and they take thieving assignments to make some money.

When she goes out to get her latest assignment she meets this strange but alluring man. Her entire world gets turned upside down as she gets to know more and more about her world, about herself and about this stranger who pays very good money for the jobs he needs done.

Throughout the story we get to explore different realms, get to know different gods and goddesses and their are even dragons mixed in with magic and lore. The story had a lot of Norse mythology and it is really nice getting to know more about the runes and the lore and everything related to that.

The tension between Eira and the MMC is delicious, but also really innocent. I like how she is both feisty and soft, reluctant but also very hungry to explore. This is a really slow burn, and some of Eira's decisions really don't make sense to me. The character building progresses steadily along the entire story. It is really nice to get to move through all the discoveries and get to know the characters better along the way.

I did find myself getting pulled in by the story, and finished this book quite quickly, but sometimes the flow of the story didn't feel well to me. Like there was a bit too much repetition of Eira's thoughts and the reasoning behind her decisions.

But overal this was a nice read, there might have been a bit more spice for me, but i did like this book and enjoyed reading it. I read this as an ARC reader, my opinions are my own and my review is voluntarily.

This was a fast paced mythical romance type deal, and was a fairly quick read. The plot kept my interest and I really like Eira’s backstory and character overall.

I feel like the world building was really good but the actually story? It felt like the author didn’t know how they wanted to end it, or they needed a dramatic ending in order to make a sequel? I didn’t understand how quickly things changed in the last 2 chapters.

He saves her life, her true identity is discovered, their plot is about to be revealed and they’re both in terrible danger. She wakes up from being beaten up in a not so dramatic fight that he saved her from - they fuck, they then just sleep under the same roof as the God of Gods who will kill her if he finds out who she is (which they know is about to happen) AND THEY’RE JUST SLEEPING?? How does this make sense?????
And then she’s like “eh I’m gonna go against my man’s back anyway and try and make a deal with the guy who defo wants me dead” and thinks that’s gonna end well???

Stupid ending
I don’t think I wanna read the sequel but I’m gonna sleep on that decision cos I lowkey wanna see how this plot is saved

Also, why are there so many spelling and grammatical errors? I’m no grammar queen but it was really distracting 😭😭

- side note, the romance was kinda dead and I feel like the chemistry between the characters could have been written better
Maybe it’s more of a 2.5 stars

A Gods Promise

3/5⭐️
1 🌶️

Eira, a fierce and independent young woman trying to make it through life after loosing her mother in the years past. Eira is not like any other young woman though, she has magic, in the forms of runes etched all over her body.
Taking the odd job as a thief here and there gives her enough money to provide for heel self and her wolf companion, but one day she gets a more perilous task and her life will change forever.

The book was a fresh read as it is inspired by Norse mythology, the names of the places and characters are reminiscent of Norse names and their character traits are interesting.

A slow burn action adventure with a romance undertone, but when it gets there, it gets good. *wink wink*

There were some small things in the story that seemed a little odd at times, and I suppose they could have been fitted in a bit more smoothly, but they didn’t ruin the story or anything. All in all a nice, fresh and fun read. The cliffhanger at the though, that makes me both eager to read the next book, but also furious with how it ends.

🐺 Slow burn romance
🐺 Hidden identity
🐺 Animal companion
🐺 Forced proximity
🐺 Norse mythology
🐺 Several realms
🐺 Unique magic system
🐺 Cliffhanger
🐺 Only one bed

Absolutely loved this story! The world building is massive and so colorful!

Getting to know Eira you can tell she is quickly hotheaded. And due to her curious nature she brings herself in quite a lot of trouble. Love her wolf companion Fenrir and the history behind his name with The Wolves Of Darkness.

This book holds so much that I just couldn’t stop reading. When we met Kol The God of Tricks I liked him instantly especially since he knew exactly how to piss of Eira 😂

I loved how to story developed with quests and more Realms but as it progressed towards the end. I just didn’t understand why Eira would continue with her plan when her Mother told her she knew about her plan and that she was happy with how things are. Things could have turned out differently towards the end but it makes the cliff hanger all the more interesting. Will Kol find out what happened with Eira and how will things go between them after this?

Loved the tension they had towards each other and the build up towards the scene was so good! The slow burn was killing me!

This book contains:
- Reverse Grumpy/Sunshine
- Enemies to Lovers
- Worldbuilding
- Gods and Monsters
- Quests
- Magic
- Slow Burn

When the mischievous Nordic God offers you a deal that could change your life do you take it?
Okay did I also mention he’s got the body to go along with his god complex as well as the perfect amount of witty banter to keep you on your toes. This book was captivating from the first chapter and the magic system was definitely unique something I hadnt read before! When I saw this book was Nordic fantasy I was intrigued to learn more and was not disappointed. FMC Eria is alone her own with her mothers death leaving her reeling with her only companion her wolf Fenrir. This badass FMC can hold her own fighting beasts as she hunts to survive and taking off end jobs stealing to make ends meet. She skates by unscathed until she takes a job unknowingly from the mischievous god Kol and her life plunges into different magical realms where her strength and magic will be tested.
This book had the best tropes including my all time favorite “one bed.” This book definitely does not disappoint in the fantasy area and the spice is well done! I cannot wait for the next one

**Arc review**

A Gods Promise puts a fresh spin on Norse mythology, riddled with references from beginning to end. This book is a nice slow burn, though with a nice pace throughout. If you’re a fan of Mythology then this book will have you from the start.
We follow the story of our FMC, who, after the passing of her mother, is left with an abundance of questions as to who she really is. There were moments where you want to scream at her naivety and stubbornness, though you are rooting for her the entire time.
The MMC is the god of mischief and tricks, and who doesn’t love a bit of a Loki reference? He is a strong willed and mysterious character, that right up until the end, you don’t know what he’s planning.
This easy read is a beautiful entry into the world of romantasy as it have a very low level of spice. However, this book ends on a cliffhanger so be warned.

A God's Promise by Kayla Maya leans on Viking lore. There are not many books that have this element as a topic.

Eira lives by herself. She has some magic and when she is hired to steal something by the charming trickster Kol, she has no idea that this way she will find out who she is.
From the beginning you get sucked into the story. Eira is a lovely character, independent, fierce. Her interactions and banter with Kol are great. The story flows, the writing style is great and there is so much mystery you keep on reading. I loved the mythology, the worlds and the Gods. The worldbuilding is unique.

A God's promise is a wonderful and nice novel, with a fierce MC and a very lovable Kol, I enjoyed reading the book a lot.

This book definitely got started right from the beginning! The FMC Eira is trapped in the human realm with forbidden magic, doing what she can to survive. She takes the honor-less types of jobs, and let me just say, I think she is a bad-ass! Her mother warned her, her whole life, not to trust a god. And in comes our MMC...he hires her for a job, and then another.

This story had all the feelings, troupes, and chemistry that anyone would want from a Romantasy!

I highly recommend this book! But just a warning, it ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger.

This book takes a twist to all those Nordic gods we love so much and gets deep into some Nordic lore.

Spice 🌶🌶/5
World building 3/5

Overall, I give this book a 4/5! I would have probably rated it 5⭐️ had there been more spice or dual POV.

A God’s Promise by Kayla Maya is book one in the Daughter of the Wolf Duet. This is the first book I’m reading by this author and I honestly enjoyed it! I love any book that delves into mythology and this one has Viking lore. I really enjoyed the adventure this book took me on and I absolutely loved Fenrir. This was a well done romantasy in my opinion that had amazing banter and chemistry between the characters. The book pretty much hooked me from the beginning until the final line of the book. I don’t think I put my kindle down once as I was invested in the storyline. But what a cliffhanger… I need book two in my life. I really liked the twists on the Nordic Gods, I thought everything was well done. I recommend this book.

4⭐️
1🌶️

Tropes:
Nordic Fantasy
Touch her and 💀
Forced Proximity
Fake Fiancé

The world building in this book was smooth and easy to get into. This is a nice fantasy escape from the real world without being too heavy. I wish I had a wolf side kick like Fenrir he was so cute and protective of Eira.

Eira is a character that has spent a long time on her own and doesn’t need a man to come save her. Kol is a sassy man who gave as good as he got banter wise. Eira has independent black cat energy and Kol was goofy but not afraid to come to her defense.

This is a fast read that is action packed and full of mystery/ secrets. It ends on a cliffhanger and is part of a duet.

This was a voluntary ARC review. Thank you! 💕

I went back and forth in regards to how I wanted to review and rate this book. This was my first read on Nordic legend, and my knowledge on this is limited; nevertheless, I enjoyed that take for this genre.

I wasn’t a big fan of the MFC, just something about her irked me, but that’s a me problem. I think it has to do with her inner dialogue not always making sense, nor her thought process. There were various moments throughout that I thought weren’t necessarily wrapped up, like a thought, action, or situation needed to have a conclusion (like asking the MMC what a certain item she has to steal was needed for, or why he needed it, things like that).

I loved the snippets of foreshadowing throughout. Overall, I enjoyed it, a fun read that moved forward in delivering the plot!

This was an exciting fast paced action adventure with slow burn romance and some spice.
Eira is bold, cunning and a fierce warrior with unusual magic abilities, and Fenrir is her loyal wolf sidekick and companion.
When Kol the God of Mischief offers her a proposition, they end up travelling to different Realms, plotting a dangerous mission to steal from the Gods, faking a relationship, and discovering more about Eira's hidden past.
There's building sexual tension as the pair grow closer together, but Eira continues to fight off her feelings with her own mission to fulfil.
With the norse mythology inspiration this was an entertaining read that ends on a cliffhanger! Eagerly awaiting part 2 of this Duology.

Inspired by the Nordic legend of The Kidnapping of Idun
Defy the gods
Break her curse
And above all, do not fall in love with the God of Mischief.

The Viking lore is what pulled me to read this book, but I stayed for the really fun adventure and the FMC's pet wolf, Fenrir.
I don't have a ton to say about this book, other than I really enjoyed it. The banter between the two MC's kept me entertained and I loved reading the unique twists of the Nordic Gods. It was super easy to follow along and kept me captivated by the beautiful realms that Kayla Maya explores.
If you're looking for an easy and cozy read, give this book a chance. I'm almost positive Fenrir will steal your heart.

What a great first impression 4.5 ⭐.

I really like Eira (FMC) and her relationship with her wolf Fenrir is one of the story's highlights, as well as the banter with Kol.

I haven't read anything by this author before and am pleased with how much I enjoyed this book. I will be checking out some of her other series.

In A God's Promise Eira started her journey, and so far it's been full of self-discovery, learning, and growth which is what I want from a character, she still needs a bit more to grow but that is what book 2 is for, right?

I'm looking forward to reading more about it.

This book. Holy cow. The magic, the gods, the realms, all of it. It’s a great first book and introduction to the series! Honestly it’s a 4.8 stars for me, would be 5 but Eira and her stubbornness were making me scream, even though I 100% get it. I get it girl 😂 I love the portrayal of gods and the secrets they hold, the secret that Eira holds and discovers, and of course Fenrir. Once I got to where I didn’t have to stop reading for real like reasons, I could not put this book down! I can’t wait to get more from this world in the next book!!

I loved the story and Characters. I was thrown off by the combination of Norse Mythology with made up names while some had their correct names. I wish someone had edited this book better or at all because there were spelling mistakes/typos and some sentences that were clearly missing a word. However the story was so good that I cannot wait to ready the next one. I only wish the next book came out sooner since it is a cliff hanger ending. I just realized I won’t get to read the next one for 9 months.

A thrilling blend of romance, danger, and myth, this book is an absolute page-turner. Eira is a fierce and compelling heroine, navigating a world filled with magic, gods, and deadly secrets. The tension between her and Kol crackles with chemistry, adding an irresistible layer of slow-burn romance to the high-stakes adventure. With lush world-building, breathtaking twists, and a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this is a must-read for fans of dark fantasy and mythology-infused tales.

The world building and plot were great.
And I loved the slow burn of Eira & Kor’s relationship!

I loved this book! It has the perfect mix of mythology, magic and wolves that leaves you wanting more. Eira and her resilience through her mothers death and essentially raising herself is remarkable. A strong FMC that doesn’t just automatically swoon and fall in love with the MC. The cliff hanger was cruel and now I have to wait months for the next book!
