I used to hide my magic. Mainly because I didn't want to be persecuted. I mean, even more so than I already was for being human. Humans aren't supposed to have magic. It's what makes us susceptible to the Corrupter's infection. And I don't just have one type of magic. I have all the elements, even Spirit—the element only Wraith Lords control. At best, the other races of Varr would see me as a mutant. At worst, a threat.
Then the Corrupter attacked our village. Two Wraith Lords came to defend us, but despite their superior skill with swords and Spirit Magic, I knew one of them would die. So, I used my magic to save him. It was the best decision I've ever made.
His name is Ratharin. He's brutally handsome, with hair as black as a raven's wing and lavender eyes that I could happily stare into for days. As a Wraith Lord, his honor is unquestionable and his bravery is infallible. He has a body honed to kill and magic granted him by the Goddess herself. Everything about him makes me shiver and salivate. And he wants to take me with him. To meet the Emperor. To help him fight the Corrupter. To start a new life. No more hiding. I'll get to be myself. But the best bit, the thing that made me say yes, is I'll be a part of Rath's life. For that, I'll do anything.
The Wraith Lords is a slow-build Gay Fantasy Why Choose (Reverse Harem) epic adventure series with sexy, magical men fighting an epic battle of good against evil.
Amy Sumida is the Internationally Acclaimed author of the Award-Winning Godhunter Series, the fantasy paranormal Twilight Court Series, the Beyond the Godhunter Series, the music-oriented paranormal Spellsinger Series, the superhero Spectra Series, and several short stories. Her books have been translated into several languages, have won numerous awards, and are bestsellers. She believes in empowering women through her writing as well as providing everyone with a great escape from reality. Her stories are full of strong women and hot gods, shapeshifters, vampires, dragons, fairies, gargoyles... pretty much any type of supernatural, breathtakingly gorgeous man you can think of. Because why have normal when you could have paranormal? Born and raised in Hawaii, Amy made a perilous journey across the ocean with six cats to settle in the beautiful state of Oregon which reminds her a lot of Hawaii but without the cockroaches or evil sand. When she isn't trying to type fast enough to get down everything the voices in her head are saying while her kitties try to sabotage her with cuteness, she enjoys painting on canvases, walls, and anything else that will sit still long enough for the paint to dry. She prefers antiques to modern furniture, tea to coffee, night to day, and Tom Hardy to Tom Hiddleston. No; Tom Hiddleston to Tom Hardy. No, wait... Tom Hardy and Tom Hiddleston to Tom Cruise. There are paranormal stories with romantic elements - and then there is romance with some magic added for reasons. This series? Yeah, it's definitely the latter. And the reason is sex, I mean love, specifically love with more people. And I am not complaining.
Okay, while I would not mind a more... serious take on the paranormal bits, the fantasy aspects are quite... flimsy, the characters talking all modern-like (which does not create the right atmosphere for more "serious" tone), they have modern plumbing so it should not be a surprise but the real story happens between the overarching story of the country (world?) instead of the other way around, the MC masters his gifts way too quickly because his journey is about falling in love, not magic, which definitely plays the second fiddle. Again, I wouldn't say it's a bad thing even though I also think the story would only be enhanced if there was more balance between the two aspects.
I already mentioned how having more than one love interest makes.... it's like it makes books drop in IQ or something. Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh but maybe adding all the extra emotions just does that to a book.
The story definitely tries to forge its own path with that particular development(s). What I usually like about poly romance is the "freedom" and just the general idea of caring for each other freely, the rebellious but somewhat delicious idea of questioning monogamy. Ember is not keen on that idea. He is very much torn and protests and refuses to share AND he only gets two guys and it's one after another, developing their relationships separately and in conflict. Quite a change from the stories I have read so far. It definitely adds depth to, I am sorry, a bit shallow waters. Not to mention the guys are not interested in each other, the proper, original definition of a harem. Yes, I prefer the usual option but I find myself liking this... generous friendship, let's say, that's developed here.
And when Ember was in that castle and he was told all that "truth"/truth... yeah, this series definitely has some unique perspective to offer and despite my not-so-subtle insults, I enjoyed it and will definitely continue. And recommend it, of course.
Not sure how I missed this book being released, because I love mm+ books! I thought this was a really good start to a new series. It did a really good job of introducing the overall plot and Main characters. I wish there was a bit more description of the various races, I think they were all mentioned but it's hard to keep them all straight. Hopefully with more books coming out we will get more details on all of the peoples in this world. Definitely looking forward to the next one.
This was a mess and I struggled to finish it. My main issues were the over the top, super perfect, good at everything MC and the fact that the longer the story went on the more every character sounded exactly the same. There was also no explanation for the fact that there were no female wraith lords so I'm assuming that's just for smut purposes. There were some entertaining parts but probably not enough to get me to slog through the next book.
Ok this is the second series that I have read by Amy Sumida. I understand that fantasy comes with a lot of rules and guidelines, but I’m not liking how in the series the humans are the lowest of the low in this world.
Hopefully as the series progress and Ember finds his other lovers, we will get more on the backstory of how the humans are the way that they are. Looking forward to what’s gonna happen next.
The best Amy Sumida book I've read! This series gives us a bit more time getting to know the individual characters than some of her other novels, and I have to say it worked for me. I also preferred having more pages to observe the fantasy aspects of the world building--which added a lot more weight to the conflict in the series. I'm invested and looking forward to book 3.
Gay Reverse Harem isn't a thing. Reverse Harem is the gender opposite of a regular harem. What makes a harem, a regular harem or a reverse harem is the gender identity of the protagonist. If the protagonist is male/masculine presenting than it's a regular harem. If the protagonist is female/femme presenting than it's a reverse harem. Again, gay reverse harem isn't a thing.
Definitely one of my favorite books from Amy Sumida so far!! I definitely recommend, it’s an awesome read and h can’t wait to see what happens next!! 😊
I liked this book, if u re a fan of Amy, this is pretty much her MO. The only thing I m not into is the idea of Ember turning into a slut and glorifying that as a way to save the world. Rath and Xae are enough, actually just Xae was more than enough
I enjoyed the book, it was fun & entertaining & had some hot scenes. We had a good overview of the world and the plot. I would have loved a little bit less insta-love, espacially when love turned out to be quite a key in the story.
