I wasn't convinced from the start, and forced myself to read on, and read on, sooner or later the story just HAD to get better, right? (plus, the book isn’t included in k. u. so I had to give it a chance once I had bought it!)
Well... I'm giving up on this one at 73%.
I just don't feel anything. The MCs feel one dimensional, their issues feel bland, like things the author had to come up with but didn't have the will to go into, leaving everything at a surface level. There was no chemistry between the MCs (in my opinion), either.
Maybe it's a me-thing, me and my mood not wanting to cooperate? But.. I enjoyed books by this author, even recently loved her book The play of his life (5 stars!).
This was disappointing, though.

Jamie Jamieson X Dorian Shore
I loved these characters. The cutie pie cover model definitely fits Jamie.
Easy breezy sleepy little no angst hockey books that are just about the characters will always have their place.
On a personal note - I got to visit Vancouver, summer 2023 for four days and it’s one of my favorite places ever now. It was so nice reading about a lot of the places in Vancouver I went to while there.
I loved these characters. The cutie pie cover model definitely fits Jamie.

Aww, I’m not ready to be done with the Shore cousins and the Vancouver Orcas yet! Game On was a great ending to a sweet series.
Dorian Shore has been kind of an enigma throughout the past two books in this series - he seemed a little aimless and flighty but you find out in this book that that couldn’t be further from the truth. He’s building a business of his own, something he believes in, but what he doesn’t really believe in is himself after being belittled by his parents and siblings for years. Despite that, he’s created a life for himself that make him happy, full of flashy clothes, snarky interactions and tons of support from his cousins even though he’s afraid to share his new business with them.
Jamie Jamieson is new to Vancouver after being traded from the Charlotte AHL team to the Orcas and he’s Dorian’s new roommate. After breaking off his engagement the day before his wedding and suffering the unforeseen consequences of that on his old team, Jamie is skeptical of the Orcas and their intentions, afraid to be burned again. He’s a big sweetheart who fosters dogs, loves his big family and sees the best in people, especially his new roommate.
These two were incredibly sweet together from the minute the first meet. While it takes a minute for them to be open to pursuing something for many reasons, you can feel their connection from the very beginning. Dorian blossoms under Jamie’s attention, praise and support and Jamie regains his confidence day by day thanks to Dorian’s sweet moments and reassurance. Things move fast between them, but I loved how realistic it was and that they didn’t want to rush things just because they happened to be roommates at the time. Their support for each other, funny banter and sweet interactions had me totally invested. And let’s not forget Poppy - what a perfect way to bring them together even more!
Sad that this series has come to an end, but can’t wait to see what else Amy Aislin has in store for us next!

I always love going back into Amy Aislin's hockey universe!
Dorian was definitely my favourite, and I am so intrigued by his subscription box idea - I'd love something like that!
Jamie was an interesting character too, but I did feel like everything wrapped up too neatly for him with his ex's brother / former team captain. I'm not always a fan of issues like that being resolved so that the 'bad guy' has some kind of redemption - sometimes I just want the bad guy to actually be a bad guy. Considering everything he put Jamie through, I just didn't buy his apology or change in behaviour, which seemed to happen so quickly and just didn't sit right with me.
Sad to be leaving this series!

January 31, 2024I love the world Amy Aislin has built with the Orcas and I'm sad that the trilogy is coming to an end, but so pleased that Dorian is finding his forever love!
We've had hints in the previous two book about Dorian and his life, but having it unfold as he and Jamie learn about each other as roommates to more is chef's kiss! I appreciated that Amy made both characters thoughtful and deliberate in their wants and needs and that they developed as individuals and a couple as they got to know more about each other and in turn, themselves. My only criticism is that it ended too soon! I want more of them!

Game On is the third and final book in Amy Aislin's Vancouver Orcas series. It's a MM low angst, forced proximity romance and can be read as a complete standalone. This story is told from a dual third person point of view and contains a guaranteed happily ever after.
Synopsis: D-man Jamie Jamieson (yes, that's his real name!) comes to the AHL Vancouver Orcas for a fresh start. Things ended badly for him with his last team after he broke off his engagement to the team captain's brother the day before their wedding. He's staying with Dorian, the Orcas' social media manager as well as his new coach's cousin. What could possibly go wrong? Dorian Shore isn't a hockey fan, and he likes hockey players even less. Except this hockey player. Jamie gets under his skin, and makes him want and feel things. But it's a bad idea, right? Not only do they work together, but they live together, too.
Amy Aislin's an auto-read author at this point, and I think the third and final book of her Vancouver Orcas series was the icing on the cake! It was so sweet and low-angst, with a hint of spice in there. I absolutely adored Jamie and Dorian. Jamie is a new character, but you can't help but like him instantly. We've met Dorian in the first two books, and he's so secretive and standoffish, but it's clear he loves his cousins so much.
It was great to get to know both of these characters. Although this romance was more of a slow-burn with Jamie and Dorian quietly dancing around each other, it was still low-angst and just a warm hug like we've come to expect from Amy's writing. It was fun seeing the couples from the past two books, and I always enjoy getting a cameo from Emery (Star of the Game). The character that really stole the show was Poppy! Not only was she adorable (I love when authors have pets in their books), but seeing Dorian soften up towards her was precious. Jamie's right, you can tell a lot about someone by the way they treat animals!
This was just a lovely little read, and can't wait to see what Amy has for us next!

He was laughing at something Toussaint was saying, head back, throat bared, his teeth gleaming in the harsh overhead lights. His laughter was uninhibited, bouncing off the hallway walls and hitting Dorian right in the sternum.

Hockey romance the way I like it where the players are AHL so they feel more real to us everyday people. Their lives aren't overly extravagant they just what they have to to play hockey and still have a good life. Jamie and Dorian have instant chemistry. Just take a bit of nudging from friends/family/teammates to get the courage to try that step. These men are just so relatable that you can actually see this happening in real life and not just in a romance book.
Dorian may not have the best parent, but wow, his cousins will be there for him no matter what he's has done for them. Jamie has a beautifully tight-knit family, but because of his last relationship ending the way it did now, he has issues opening up to his new team. And oh boy, they are a great group of guys, cannot wait to see more stories from this team.
Great low angst slow burn real life romance. Highly recommend when in the mood for something easy to read. So, thank you for writing a real-life hockey romance. We need more of this to be put put there.

Game On is the third stand alone in the MM hockey romance series , Vancouver Orcas, by Amy Aislin. A sweet romance between a AHL hockey player and his coaches cousin / temporary roommate.
I thought the first book in this series would be my forever favorite because of how much I loved Matt, but ya'll I loved both Jamie and Dorian in this one so damn much. Jamie is such a warm and happy personality when he's comfortable. He loves dogs and his relationship with his family was the best. Dorian may have had walls up to protect himself when in reality he was a big old softie underneath who had so much love to give.
Dorian made another muffled sound against his lips, this one less surprised and more enraptured. He kissed like he did everything else— with confidence and fearlessness.
Even though Jamie and Dorian are attracted to each other the moment they meet, their relationship a bit of a slow burn. Dorian doesn't let people in easily, and Jamie lost his trust in himself and his decision-making after the events that brought him to the Orcas. They become friends, yet the more Jamie sees the real Dorian the more he falls for him until he can't resist. The two have some deliciously steamy intimate scenes when they give into their attraction. The bedroom scenes plus the adorableness between them outside of it made them the complete package.

This book just WON my heart - I rarely gave 5-stars, right? But I just LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!! Dorian was precious.
I always have soft spot for "porcupine" characters. Dorian was THAT. I loved that his love language wasn't the words but the way he cared for his loved ones. Dorian already won me over when in the previous book, he , and now he took Jamie in, he was willing to open his private space, and OMG, the part where Dorian made sure that Poppy wouldn't get adopted (because clearly, Dorian LOVED that dog!) was one of the HIGHLIGHTS of my day.
I was so happy that now he had Jamie in his corner. Dorian may not need a protector, but Jamie would made sure that he was right beside Dorian if Dorian needed him to. Plus Jamie fostered dog. GAH! You two!!

4.25 stars for this one, which I believe is the last one in the Vancouver Orcas series. Enjoyed it, and the little bonus freebie on the author's website [if you sign up for the newsletter] was just the icing on the cake 🎂 for several couples in the series. Happy that Dorian finally got his own HEA.

FR- Alors alors.... alors vous avez dit hockey?
J'adore la plume d'Amy Aislin et j'adore plus particulièrement les romances sur le hockey. Alors forcément, avec Game On , j'ai le combo gagnant.
Une fois encore, je commence par le dernier tome de la trilogie et bien sur, Game On m'a donné envie de lire les deux premiers tomes. J'ai passé un excellent moment de lecture. J'ai d'ailleurs dévoré ce roman en quelques heures. Il est en effet impossible de le lâcher une fois commencé.
Amy Aislin, avec Game On, nous propose une romance tellement mignonne.
J'ai adoré les personnages principaux, que ce soit Jamie ou Dorian. Ils sont tous les deux aussi attachants et touchants. J'ai beaucoup aimé qu'il n'y ai pas de faux drama et que la relation entre les deux hommes se fasse de manière naturelle et douce. Comme une évidence.
Encore une fois, j'ai beaucoup aimé tout ce qui avait trait au hockey en lui même. C'est vraiment agréable de lire une romance sportive où l'auteur prend le temps de parler vraiment du sport. Où l'auteur propose des scenes de match ou de vie du club.
J'ai beaucoup aimé la façon dont Jamie va permettre à Dorian de prendre conscience de sa valeur et de croire en lui. J'ai trouvé leur relation vraiment saine et j'ai adoré découvrir le reste de leur entourage, que ce soit l'équipe de hockey ou la famille de Dorian.
Encore une fois, Amy Aislin nous livre une excellente romance et un univers qu'on quitte avec beaucoup de difficulté. On en aurai voulu encore.

I love Amy Aislin's writing and I particularly love hockey romances. So obviously, with Game On, I have the winning combo.
Once again, I'm starting with the last volume of the trilogy and of course, Game On made me want to read the first two volumes. I had a great time reading. I devoured this novel in a few hours. It is indeed impossible to put it down once started.
Amy Aislin, with Game On, brings us such a cute romance.
I loved the main characters, whether it was Jamie or Dorian. They are both equally endearing and touching. I really liked that there was no false drama and that the relationship between the two men was natural and gentle. As if it were obvious.
Once again, I really liked everything that had to do with hockey itself. It's really nice to read a sports romance where the author takes the time to really talk about sports. Where the author offers scenes from matches or club life.
I really liked the way Jamie will allow Dorian to realize his worth and believe in himself. I found their relationship really healthy and I loved discovering the rest of their entourage, whether it was the hockey team or Dorian's family.
Once again, Amy Aislin gives us an excellent romance and a universe that we leave with great difficulty. We would have wanted more.

Encore une fois, j'ai beaucoup aimé tout ce qui avait trait au hockey en lui même. C'est vraiment agréable de lire une romance sportive où l'auteur prend le temps de parler vraiment du sport. Où l'auteur propose des scenes de match ou de vie du club.
J'ai beaucoup aimé la façon dont Jamie va permettre à Dorian de prendre conscience de sa valeur et de croire en lui. J'ai trouvé leur relation vraiment saine et j'ai adoré découvrir le reste de leur entourage, que ce soit l'équipe de hockey ou la famille de Dorian.
Encore une fois, Amy Aislin nous livre une excellente romance et un univers qu'on quitte avec beaucoup de difficulté. On en aurai voulu encore.

I love Amy Aislin's writing and I particularly love hockey romances. So obviously, with Game On, I have the winning combo.
Once again, I'm starting with the last volume of the trilogy and of course, Game On made me want to read the first two volumes. I had a great time reading. I devoured this novel in a few hours. It is indeed impossible to put it down once started.
Amy Aislin, with Game On, brings us such a cute romance.
I loved the main characters, whether it was Jamie or Dorian. They are both equally endearing and touching. I really liked that there was no false drama and that the relationship between the two men was natural and gentle. As if it were obvious.
Once again, I really liked everything that had to do with hockey itself. It's really nice to read a sports romance where the author takes the time to really talk about sports. Where the author offers scenes from matches or club life.
I really liked the way Jamie will allow Dorian to realize his worth and believe in himself. I found their relationship really healthy and I loved discovering the rest of their entourage, whether it was the hockey team or Dorian's family.
Once again, Amy Aislin gives us an excellent romance and a universe that we leave with great difficulty. We would have wanted more.

I feel so sad this is the last book of the Vancouver Orcas series. I've enjoyed every single book and I was looking forward to Dorian's story and I absolutely loved it!
Dorian keeps to himself and he has some issues he's been carrying all his life. He works for the Orcas as their social media coordinator, but he's sort of lonely and afraid to open up to someone. Jamie needed a change in his life so he accepted a tranfer to the Orcas to play for the team, he's hoping to leave his old life behind and forget about what a nightmare he went through with his former team.
Oh, Dorian!!! He was the star of this book, I fell in love with him from the very start. He's not shy, but he doesn't share much about himself, sometimes not even to his cousin Charlie who is his best friend. He's so afraid to disappoint people that it truly broke my heart to see how he hid the best parts of himself.
Jamie was heartbroken and hurt. I felt so bad for him after reading what his former team had done to him. He was so good at heart, one of those people that you look at and can't help but smile. He was exactly what Dorian needed and I loved how they got to know each other bit by bit until they couldn't just live without each other. They talked a lot, shared their dreams and pasts, and became friends before they realised how much they felt for each other.
This book is a slow burn romance, where both MCs carry emotional scars from their pasts but are willing to give a relationship a try, even though it takes them a while to acknowledge it. It was beautiful, Dorian was amazing and Jamie was sweet and understanding. I don't want to forget to mention Poppy, a secondary character that became glued to Dorian. It was funny to watch him fall head over heels for her and she was so good for him.
Like everything Amy writes, this was another beautiful, special and romantic book that I did love very much. I say goodbye to the Orcas with a big smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart.

It’s all about convenience, at first, because it’s absolutely expensive living in Vancouver; Jamie doesn’t have the means to rent his own place. But, the longer he stays in Dorian’s place, the more he helps Dorian warm up to living beyond existence. Dorian’s a bit neurotic, and he’s pet-averse, but that’s mostly because he has so little experience with people or pets. And Jamie’s just the man to change Dorian’s rigid rules for the better. Their caretaking was cute, but I think it was Jamie’s depth of compassion, helping Dorian see that he’s worth loving no matter how cold his parents were, that was the bright spot.

GAME ON is the last book in the Vancouver Orcas series, and I'm sad to see it go. I've enjoyed getting to know the Shore cousins and see them fall in love.
In the first two books, we glimpses of Dorian, the independently wealthy, fashion disaster, and all-around caring but blunt cousin. In GAME ON, we get to know his backstory and watch him fall in love.
Jamie Jamieson is transferred to the Orcas, and his past with his previous team has made him anxious and a bit gun-shy to make connections with his new team. He ends up staying with Dorian, his new coach's cousin.
The attraction between the two mc's is INSTANT and quite the spark. But they both have issues to work out before they can act on that attraction.
I enjoyed getting to know Dorian. He was such a sweetheart under all that armor. Jamie was perfect for him with his easygoing nature and attitude.
I loved getting to see them support each other and fall in love. I also loved Poppy and that entire little storyline. So cute.
I really enjoyed this story and always love getting to lose myself in Amy's world of sensitive and kind hockey bros.
I totally recommend her work if you're looking to read story driven low angst hockey romances!

Dorian & Jamie
This has been a good series and Dorian and Jamie's story made for a good ending. I didn't want to put this down. I just couldn't wait to see how things turned out for them. It was worth reading.

Finally, Dorian's story!
For two people afraid to commit for their own reasons, it was fitting that these two wonky Lucky Charm Marshmallows found each other.
They manage to bring out the best in each other- Dorian helps Jamie realize that he can trust people again after he leaves a bad situation on his previous team.
Jamie helps Dorian realize that everything does not have to be perfect and what Dorian does does matter.
The two of them help each other overcome past hurts and insecurities, and they forge a relationship together.
With Jamie's help, Dorian relaizies: THAT WAS THE BEAUTY OF LIFE. IT WAS PERFECTLY IMPERFECT.
Reading an Amy Aislin book is like catching up with old friends and also getting the chance to make new ones. Be sure to read the bonus scene- it is a great catchup and ending for this Trilogy!

My apologies to Jamie Jamieson for how one-sided this review is going to be. Don’t get me wrong, Jamie’s amazing - warm, funny, supportive, and an all-around great guy. I loved his tenacity and determination, and even his vulnerability as he navigated change and uncertainty while settling into his new team. It’s not his fault he’s not Dorian, but I think if anyone would understand how absolutely in love with Dorian I am, it’s Jamie.
When I say I fell into this story, I fell headfirst and hard. If you follow this series, maybe you’ve been as anxious for Dorian’s story as I have. He’s a bit secretive and mysterious, always holding back a piece of himself. After getting to know him better, I just want to wrap him up in the warmest hug and never let go. Getting to see who he truly is - a closet softie hiding beneath a tough exterior - is such a wonderful surprise. I fell for him hard several times throughout the story because of his wit and charm, but also because he’s just the most caring, vulnerable guy trying hard to stay true to himself. It’s not easy after what he’s been through, but he’s determined to establish his own definition of success and to build a business he’s proud of. I don’t know if it’s possible for me to love him more.
Dorian offering his spare room to the Orca’s newest player provides the perfect setup for this forced proximity, roommates to lovers, hockey romance. Jamie’s making the sudden move to Vancouver to leave behind a bad situation, and he wants to lay low and avoid stirring up any drama with his new team. Falling for his new coach’s cousin who also happens to be the team’s social media person isn’t really part of that plan.
These guys are perfect together. Despite the hurts in their pasts, they’re so at ease from the moment they meet. It’s as if they recognize the safety and security they’ve found in each other even before their hearts and heads catch up. What develops between them is the sweetest, most genuine connection, and I love all the ways Amy Aislin shows they’re perfect halves of the same whole.

Save the best for last!
An excellent end to this series
From the beginning of the series, I had Dorian as the MC to follow and finally came up with his story.
I loved his relationship with Jamie, the roommate, and the strong relationship with the cousins who are the MCs from the previous books. I love “mad” families and Dorian has one.
I loved it and recommended it.

I'm seriously questioning why I haven't read the rest of this series before this book. This story was sweet, funny and lovely and both Dorian and Jamie are amazing characters, despite being completely different.
Dorian is sassy, snarky, proud, independent, he keeps people at arms lenght but he craves approval at the same time. He's scared to fail and he finds difficult to confide in his two cousins/best friends.
Jamie is nice, loyale, determined but he's been hurt badly and he wants a new chance at being happy playing hockey with a new team.
I liked how they got close and how they could understand each other, their connection is strong since the very first moments they spend together: they were both supportive of the other one's dreams and needs. Dorian help Jamie to realise he's in a safe place with the Orcas, Jamie helps Dorian face the fears about his new project.
Their banter is amazing, especially when they talk to each other through Poppy (the cutest dog ever).
What prevented me from giving 5 full stars:
I would have liked to know if Jamie reconnected with Scott, since he's always considered him his best friend.
I think I'm going to read the previous books too, I'm a little sad I just found an amazing series and it ended!

I can't wait for whatever Amy Aislin has planned for next!

This is the third book in the series, and I would recommend you read them in order, because they are such fun stories, as well as introducing the team and giving you an idea of how open the team players and coaches are to in-team relationships. This is a revelation to newly traded Jamie. He had a torrid time at his last team due to splitting from the captain's brother – which has badly impacted on his confidence and his trust levels for colleagues.
The Orcas have been at the bottom of the league, but Jamie is part of their plan for success, and as he feels happier, he helps them do well – I think that his mindset and thoughts are really interesting in understanding how the NHL system of trades clearly has a serious impact on the wellbeing of players.
As he comes mid-season he doesn't have time to move, and chooses to rent a room from Dorian Shore, who does the social media for the team and is Coach Shore's cousin. Dorian is just such a fun guy, a bit of a peacock, but good at his job as well as a kind and generous host. He is also busy setting up a new business too – so really has no time or interest in getting involved with anyone, but most especially a hockey player. So he does find his instant attraction to his new housemate.
I loved how much depth we get of both Dorian and Jamie, it makes the romance much richer as we have a good idea how the men will respond to situations as they arise. It is impossible not to want them both to find real happiness and the start of their happily ever after!

I was so happy to read Dorian’s story. He might be tough on the outside, but it doesn’t take long to work out Dorian is a great big softie on the inside. I loved him. The way he treats Poppy is adorable. Jamie is such a good, easy going guy and I think he was a great match for Dorian. The men complement each other well.
GAME ON is a low-angst romance, which I really appreciated. That doesn’t mean there is no drama because both men have their own issues, but the story just is drama filled. I found Jamie and Dorian’s story to be really sweet and loving. GAME ON is another excellent ice hockey romance from Amy Aislin and I’d definitely recommend.

No, this is the last of the series. I loved Charlie and Blair's book but I think this one might just be my favourite.
I've liked Dorian in the previous book and was eager for him to find his HEA, and I wasn't disappointed. Both him and Jamie were carrying some baggage into the relationship but where Jamie had a solid sense of worth and found out easy to shake off, Dorian's doubts were much more deeply ingrained.
Enjoyable, low angst sports romance.

I'm fairly new to Amy's work, I've read a few books of hers in the past and enjoyed them, so when I read the blurb for this one I knew I had to give it a go. While this is the last book in the series it does stand as a standalone, and I would know considering I haven't read the earlier books in this series. This book was so good! It was jam packed full of wonderful characters, funny dialogue and banter, crop tops, subscription boxes, and love!!
Sometimes I feel like when there are a lot of side characters they end up becoming just an extra character who doesn't add much. That was not what occured in this book. Each and every side character has their own personality, added their own banter and wittiness, and really helped make this story come alive. I absolutely adored Matt and Charlie's characters, they were so supportive of Dorian and you could really tell that those three men loved and cared for each other deeply. I really enjoyed the banter Dorian has with them, it added so much great humor to the story, and really embodied what having supportive family members are like.
I could relate to Dorian in a pretty profound way, him always being fearful and scared of rejection and worrying that what he does will never be good enough, due to his parents and siblings making him feel that way. I can relate to that because my extended family has made me feel that way countless of times, my parents, thankfully are very supportive, but my extended family is definitely more like Dorian's family members. I really like when an author can write really realistic and relatable characters, especially when the reader can relate to the characters in some way. I loved the growth that occured with both of these characters, they each helped each other grow and overcome the worries they each have had. I really enjoyed not only the character development that occured, but I also really enjoyed the way Dorian and Jamie's relationship was written. The pacing was excellent! The writing itself was really well done, the background was fantastic, and I absolutely loved the way fostering and adopting pets was such a profound message throughout the story. I loved everything about this story, I'm going to go back and read the earlier books eventually cause I want to read more about Charlie and Matt!

Another wonderful hockey series ended. And I loved every minute.
When it comes to romance, Amy's books always fill me with joy. In case of Game On, it was doubly true.
This book tells the tentative romance between Dorian (the last remaining single Shore cousin) and Jamie (the freshly traded defenceman in the Vencouver Orca's line-up).
The base concept is very simple. Jamie needs a place to stay after the trade, Dorian has the room, and they slowly grow fond of each other.
I loved the vibes and interactions in this book. Though both Dorian and Jamie brought their emotional baggage, they helped each other move past their issues while also being sweet with each other.
Dorian's issues came from his upbringing and the constant need to be perfect so no one can criticise him. But it also just hid the desire to be loved and cared for. I loved seeing him show more and more of his soft insides. First, with Poppy, the foster dog, than with Jamie and at the end with his cousins.
I also adored his business idea and how passionate he was about it.
His broken pieces felt real, and I just wanted to hug him and show him he was important. Thankfully, Jamie clued in very soon, too.
Jamie's insecurities came from being treated harshly at his previous team. He was wary about his new team, falling for someone who was so closely connected to the team and overall just trusting people not to hurt him.
Fortunately, he had his big family in his corner, and also Dorian. Who could never see someone hurt if he could do something about it.
Honestly, their whole story was just heartwarming and sweet. Their quiet understanding of each other felt healing. Them fostering Poppy together was just simply adorable. Standing up and encouraging each other felt like a safe place.
The supporting character provided the perfect background for their romance. Jamie's boisterous family and teammates, Dorian's cousins. The perfect little family.
Amy's writing is the perfect pace for me. It's a bit slower than most romances and a bit slower burn, too. But I love it because the emotions develop seamlessly, and when they finally pop free, it's fantastic.
I'm sad to see this series finished as I've grown fond of the characters. I hope to see more closely connected stories from the author.

The final book of the Vancouver Orcas hockey trilogy finds more ways to interconnect the characters, both main and secondary, some seeingly germane and some random.
Six months ago, Jamie was on the Boston Cobras, playing some of the best hockey of his life and planning a wedding with his best friend, Scott. But the night before their wedding the two men called it off, mutually. However Scott's older brother was the team captain of the Cobras, and he didn't take this well. Over the next few months, he and his buddies on the team slowly made Jamie's life hell to the point where he was considering quitting... until Matt Share, the new coach for the Orcas, became very, very interested in trading for Jamie. So Jamie begged to make that happen... and walked away from Boston with nothing more than a bag of clothes.
Upon arriving in Vancouver, Coach Shore takes Jamie to meet his cousin, Dorian, who's offered to put Jamie up until the hockey player can find housing. (In Vancouver's housing market? *snort* This is actually a recurring line throughout the book.) Jamie and Dorian experience mutual unspoken attraction, but both work hard to ignore it.
Over the next couple weeks (months, I think, the book gives conflicting times lengths), the two men get to know each other and slowly deepen their attraction. Jamie discovers that Dorian is a very unusual dresser, is independently wealthy, having built and sold off an app in college, and more importantly, has a lot of trust issues due to the way his parents raised him. And he's currently putting the final touches on his mail order gift box company. In turn, Dorian gets Jamie to talk about his history with Scott. Then they boink. (Luckily this is confined to just one chapter and was fairly readable.)
I liked this for the most part. The prose was pretty direct, other than some wonky time-line issues. The characters were solid and they had very distinct voices in their alternating chapters. I liked how the Shore cousins continue to be supportive of each other, as they were through the trilogy. And when each character had their moment of crisis, they worked it out themselves without needing to fall onto their partner's shoulders (who were there as support.)
No fuss, no histrionics, just common sense, grounded story telling here.
Four stars.

While this is the third book of this series, it was the first that I had read and it absolutely worked well as a standalone. Obviously characters from the previous two books make appearances, but the author clued the reader into necessary context of the other couples/characters without ruining the books if you wanted to circle back and read them.
While there was immediate attraction between Dorian and Jamie, this is very much a slow-burn. For their own reasons they resist their chemistry, which led to an organic, believable, and genuine connection between them. I really enjoyed the relationship building of this story, not only between Dorian and Jamie, but also between Jamie and his new teammates, as well as Dorian and his sister, though I do wish there had been more on page conversations in all regards, since I much prefer that to having information told to me by a character's internal thoughts. That aside, I loved how well Dorian and Jamie got to know each other, with intent and deliberation.
I loved the addition of the emergency foster, Poppy, and pretty much all that entailed . I loved the development of Dorian's subscription box, the way that Jamie began trusting his teammates and how they were just the best with him. It was a great story and took place in Canada, eh? As a Canadian girlie that was pretty cool, lol.
