Dark Town brings us 24 tales that showcase the dark side of humanity. This might be one of the best put-together anthologies that I’ve read in a while. Each story was entertaining and did a great job highlighting the theme of this anthology. Some of my favorites were With a Frozen Dream and a Borrowed Hope that Died by Michael Collins, Best Served Cold by Dawn DeBraal, Sorry by Ruth Anna Evans, Frog It by Aaron Lebold, Seventeen Years by Jeremy Megargee, The Day After the Storm by Joe Scipione and Cat Scratch Fever by Megan Stockton. If you like your horror served with a side of revenge, gore, and twisted people, add this one to your TBR.

An anthology of 24 tales involving dark places, and the dark side of humanity. I would recommend this anthology to people who like dark stories. Lots of great authors I have read before. Also some authors that are new to me. D&T Publishing puts out some of the best anthologies. All proceeds of this anthology go to the families of the Uvalde school tragedy.

Dark Town Anthology seemed interesting when I picked it up, but after 24 stories of retaliatory revenge, it didn’t bring anything elevated or impactful for me. The tales were relatively brief and some were better than others. Most of them felt forced and derived other, better presented, yarns of revenge.

The Finger Tree was original and engaging to start the path, but only a handful measured up as quality. Tears of a Clown, Captain Terry’s Ferry, Frog It, Beneath the Kaleidoscope Abelias, Dracula’s Revenge, and the final tale Cohabitation is Murder stood above the rest.

Unfortunately, the remaining 17 tales gave off repetitive adultery revenge vibes, imitation television scenarios, or just plain plagiarizing popular authors in condensed form.

Beyond the joy of anticipated reading new material, this collection sheds continued light on the human nature of us all and doesn’t paint us in a good light while pointedly recalling bullies, poor relationships, and the utter lapse of communication between people.

There are gems within this collection but hardly enough to recommend seeking this one out.

For anyone interested, here is how the tales rated for me.
The Finger Tree -Ty Anderson 4*
Rib of Lilith - Richard Beauchamp 2*

A Well-Balanced Anthology Rife with Revenge!

DARK TOWN by D&T Publishing provides a well-balanced collection of short stories of horror that display the pitfalls and retributions of revenge. Publisher Dawn Shea rounds up a terrific lineup of writers in this 24-story anthology. From revisionist Dracula to selfish influencers to a resurrected car, this book has something for everyone as revenge is served cold, clammy, and bloody. Pick up and read this book as its proceeds go to the families of the Uvalde school shooting. You won't be disappointed as your thirst for vengeful horror stories will be satisfied while contributing to a great cause.
