Tosaka Jun (1900–1945) was one of modern Japan's most unique and important critics of capitalism, the emperor system, imperialism, and everyday life in wartime Japan. This collection of translations contains some of Tosaka's most important essays and original articles on Tosaka.
Sublime. Some usual restating of Marxist territory with a Japanese setting; but in others, there is clearly a philosophical bent here that's given one of the most serious philosophical treatments of the concepts of dialectical materialism I've ever seen. The first two essays serve as a Marxist restatement of the conceptions of space and time in a way that is a serious treatment of the subjects worthy of recognition, compared to the usual Marxist-Leninist writeoff of philosophical subjects.
Shame there isn't more of him translated in the West.
