I’ve got a few favourites when it comes to publishers and Dundee based indie press 3TimesRebel is one of them. Once again they have blown my socks off with The Dear Ones by Berta Dávila.
Translated from Galician by Jacob Rogers, the story tells of a woman who is a mother, but she knows, and confidently acknowledges, that she is more than this, she is still the woman she was before. Even when things occur that attempt to dramatically change things, she shows strength and courage to dig in her heels and say well, actually, no, I’m not having this, I will not be changed. I will not be quietly accepting.
The Dear Ones is a powerhouse, a confidence boost, and a not-so-gentle reminder that women should have the freedom of choice without judgement.
This book made me whisper a deeply profound wow on finishing. The author has written with bravery and a sincerity that needs to be heard louder and clearer than ever before.
