this was one of the worst books I’ve ever read and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

I am going to have to block the author on tiktok so I won’t be lured in with another one sentence teaser at 3AM.

The book starts with our main character (Morina, who is not like other girls) at a club wearing combat boots and wanting to have a one night stand. She meets our mmc ([se]bastian) who is rich and then he takes her on his private jet and they have sex watching the sunrise (like good for her but what about your safety Jesus) also our mmc mentions he had sex with the flight attendant, good for him but are you truly bragging about that when you are going to have sex with someone else??

anyway we travel home eventually to our mc’s small Florida town. she lives with her grandmother, who is literally on her deathbed, and surfs and runs a smoothie shop. and who shows up at her shop but the handsome guy she had a one night stand with. cool. long story short, he’s in the mob and her grandmother had dealings with them and once her grandmother dies they have to get married for some goddamn reason ?? honesty it doesn’t make sense.

so they get engaged and she’s horny but he won’t have sex with her so she’s like “maybe I’ll have sex with someone else” and he’s like “if you even look at someone else I’ll fucking kill them” and she’s like “but you won’t have sex with me?” And he’s like “no” but then he has sex with her and then he blows her off and makes her jealous with some other woman, and that happens most of the book. he legit does not deserve her and she keeps going back for more pain.

the other part of the book has to deal with oil refineries and drilling and shit, you know non-renewable energy. whatever it doesn’t make sense.

at the end we get some half baked confession of love from each other, but why? I don’t know. I don’t think they ever had a conversation that didn’t end in arguing so you know, I don’t know why they care about each other.

and throw in some human trafficking we have to stop and murder (and a lack of willingness to murder human traffickers but willing to kill ppl she would have sex with) yes that makes a boom 🙄

honestly our fmc needed to stand up because this man was an ASS and did not want or need her. and she needed some self respect

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Absolutely hated the heroine. I could not relate to her at all. She constantly threw herself to the hero and all the times she got rejected. Not just that, she would tell him that she’ll find someone to do his job🙄 like girl. The story was fast paced and the plot was kinda interjecting but cringe at the same time. This book needs to be edited tho… there were some paragraphs that just didn’t feel right and the pov changing in one chapter wasn’t just it for me.

The suit and the surfer girl!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narrator: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😎☺️🙃😚

The heroine: Morina - she lives in a small beach town near Miami where she surfs every day and owns a food truck that sells smoothies at the beach. She is in to astrology and loves her grandma Mirabelle who has stage four lung cancer, has stopped all treatment and will die very soon.

The Hero: Sebastian Armanelli - He is the most infamous mafia boss in the country. His father was cruel, ruthless and Dirty. Bastian and his brother took out a hit on their father two years ago and has been cleaning up their businesses ever since. He is on the cusp of legalizing the last of their businesses when he meets Morina at a nightclub.

The Story: Bastian and Morina both know from the first that they are complete opposites. He is a wealthy man and a “Suit”, while she is a free spirited surfer girl. However, they have a one night stand together and both agree to not see each other again.

The book is told in dual points of view via dual narration. Mia Madison and Nelson Hobbs do the narration and both do a fine job. I like Nelson’s voice, it is masculine and clear and though his reading is a bit stilted at times, he is able to show emotion through his voice. Mia is very compatible with Nelson and also has a clear voice and shows sarcasm well through her voice.

I was a bit surprised when I saw that Shain Rose has written more than ten books, I would have guessed this was her first or second. The idea was good (opposites attract, mafia, legitimizing the business), but there were some things that weren’t explained well enough and some that just didn’t flow naturally. Also some of the conversations, especially in the first chapters were inane or a bit silly.

“Is he single?”
“You’re interested in him and not me?” He sounded completely shocked…
“Bastian, I’m much too simple for your tastes,” and he was much too complicated for mine. “Dante seems nice.”
“While I’ll be damned if a girl looks at my security team instead of me tonight”.

“I’m not hitting on you, I was admiring your face.”

“I’m more interested in your friend”
“What for?”

“Do you think I can’t show you a good time Morina? That I couldn’t show you something new?”
“Of course you can’t. You’re just another guy wearing a suit.”

“I’ve been with a lot of men like you before.”

“She might have been lost in her own ecstasy and dark dreams. But now I was lost to her, a siren of beauty in the dim light who had hooked me.”

How Bastian was legitimizing the business wasn’t explained clearly enough for my tastes. Also what exactly Morina’s Grandmother did wasn’t very clear to me. Though the story did keep my interest and got better as it moved forward and I did like the romance between Bastian and Morina. Though I hate in books when the couple finds some lame excuse not to get busy even though they both want it. In this case the fake engagement and the fact that their marriage only has to last six months is their reason even though they have already been together once before. It just seems counterproductive and needless to me.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

this was terrible. 0 stars. a lot of incessant back and forth bullshit that had me rolling my eyes and scanning the pages for when it would be over.

Timeline felt unorganized, plot was all over the place. character development was so little and unsatisfactory.

Needs a heavy round of editing. Typos, whole paragraphs that seemed like they belonged elsewhere, and varying povs in one chapter

Some good and some bad. I like the hippie/mafia leader dynamic and the experienced heroine who gives as good as she gets and the hero getting used to the heroine's plants and crystals. I also liked some of the banter and they had a few cute moments. My favorite part is definitely how experienced the heroine is though. She's young, free sportswriters, and can be immature, but she wasn't weak, naive, inexperienced, and she told it how it is. What I didn't like was the constant push and pull the entire book (literally up to like 95%) and the hero not ever being able to make up his mind. He says he doesn't want them to be together because it will mess up her head and he wants her to have a clear head with the shares, then he doesn't want to trap her even though the heroine loves him. Dumbest reasonings.

So shes constantly throwing herself at him, in her defense, he says and does sweet things like he wants her but then pushes her away and says they cant have sex even though they already did in the beginning. Then she threatens she will sleep with other people if he doesn't want her, he starts touching and flirting other girls to get back at her for saying crap, she gets back at him with by flirting/kissing other guys, he then gets mad, says shes his, has sex or foreplay, then he tells her they can't be together, and it starts all over again. Super annoying. While the heroine is immature, I'm just glad she didn't take it. While the hero was a douche (I'll put safety deets below), the heroine got back at him more, which makes me happy. But after all that push and pull, when they finally get together it's a little too late, no different than the other times, and is super unsatisfactory.

I also didn't like how the hero's personality constantly changes. He's pretty boring in the beginning and doesn't get much better unless he's being all possessive, and him calling her little girl, and her calling him daddy just didn't really fit in with this story or their personalities. He's too indecisive to be a leader and husband too. The climax was eh, and her getting mad even though she's been ignoring pretty much all his business the whole time, was pretty dumb.

Also, there were a good amount of editing mistakes. Not a ton of then, but the ones that were there were super obvious. For example, it would be his POV, and then it would randomly change to her POV for like a sentence, and go back to his pov, like the author forgot which POV she was in. There was also an incomplete random sentence in there too like it was copy and pasted in the wrong spot or was supposed to be deleted.

Safety:

Ow/om drama scenes:
-When heroine first sleeps with him and takes a flight on his jet in the beginning, we find out he has casual hook ups with the flight attendant which is super weird because they end up having sex on the jet in the bedroom. He also says something out loud along the lines of “Handle me better than my flight attendant huh?” -flight attendant causes no drama or jealousy and we don't see her again after this

-heroine's casual f-buddy, Bradley, is in the book a good amount too, and does cause the hero to get jealous, especially when she threatens to sleep with him when hero is being a douche

-they go to a gala, heroine was mad hero kept pushing her away so she said they should go with separate dates and sleep with that person before to get the tension out of them since he won't keep with her. She tells hero to bring his own date. Hero gets mad, so he does. The person he brings I'm sure he's slept with before. He kisses her neck, flirts, and dances with her. Heroine is jealous, so she takes Bradley to another room, kisses him, and wants to have sex with him, but Bradley stops it because shes not fully into it. Nothing more happens with either dates in this scene, and neither slept with their dates.

- they go to a party at a topless beach, and heroine wants to go topless but hero won't let her but again, he says crap that they can't be together together but still won't let her go topless (she's a free spirit lol) she said she should start moving on with other people now because he can't make up his mind🙄. His previous date to the gala ends up being there, topless, and flirting with him. He doesn't stop it because he's mad heroine said they need to move on, so he kind of encourages it by touching her back and getting close to her. Heroine is mad, takes her top off too, and talks with another business associate dude to get back at the hero (I'm glad shes not weak and a pushover). He leaves the girl, and goes to the heroine because of this. Hero did say he didn't even look at the other girl though, he was just mad heroine keeps saying crap.

-side character has a few appearances, a MC from the author's other book, and she says how the hero had tried to have sex with her in the past and crap but shes married now so nothing between them

--non-virgins/both are pretty casual with sex (I'm so glad shes experienced too). He just has more years on her

--Both I think were celibate after their one-night stand and I don't think either slept with anyone else in the duration of the book.

Oh my gosh, once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. After Heart of a Monster, I already loved Bastian and couldn’t wait for his story and Shattered Vows 100% solidified my love for him.

This is a story about two polar opposites who get stuck in a marriage of convenience. Bastian is a powerful, possessive mobster, while Morina is a laid-back, beach-loving hippie. Their relationship is filled with banter, angst, puppy cuddles, and SUCH GOOD STEAM 🥵🌶 Did I mention there’s an age-gap?! We love a good age gap 😏

This story is a lot more light-hearted compared to Heart of a Monster. Much less mafia-talk and violence, but it totally speaks to Bastian’s possessive yet gentle personality.

Overall, I loved it and I’m gonna need Cade or Dante’s story next. I don’t usually beg, but I will if I have to 🙏🏼

this book was worse than wattpad. i think this says smtg😪. it's like SR was trying to write a mafia "rich" romance without knowing the concept of it. In both their povs, it's like "I'm not like other girls" and "he's not like other guys just cuz he's older"🤨🤨🤨

the smut saved this book tbh😔✋️

This was my first book by Shain Rose and I have mixed feelings.
The plot is amazing! A surfer, easy going lady & an older suit wearing mafioso who get forced into a marriage of convenience and fake date? Right up my street!
The issue for me was the conversation pieces. They felt awkward and unplanned. The FMC was especially so. At one point
She frustrated me to no end.
The spicy bits were on point and I enjoyed Shain Rose's style so I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

DNF at 44%. I tried SO HARD to like this but in the end I was forcing myself to read it and not having a good time/not looking forward to the next chapter so I gave up. Why even bother with a mafia storyline if your main character mafia guy doesn’t want to do anything illegal and wants to be a “good” mafia businessman? No thanks. I need murder and missing fingers! The female main character was also incredibly immature and annoying as fuck. I didn’t want her to succeed. I wouldn’t have cared if she was killed off. And that says it all really. Big old pass on this one

I cry.
I needed a win so goddamn badly after the past few books and this... this was not it.

So. Fuck it. Ya'll are getting a chapter by chapter breakdown as I hate-read this bullshit. I cannot.

I should've known, though, honestly. I've never really thought that mafia stories were my thing. I keep seeing/hearing people gush about them but every one I've looked into has been...

This is the first one that didn't make me wanna hurl just from reading the blurb, so against my better judgement, and at the urging of a friend, I picked it up.

I got 2 chapters in and it was enough for me to realize I didn't like Mo or Bastian. They didn't really seem to like each other much either (and not in that sexy enemies-to-lovers way). In fact, they just felt like 2 people who are entirely wrong for each other.

She's into witchy stuff like crystals and astrology. He's a stick in the mud.

But what I think I disliked most was the writing. If a computer AI was forced to read a 15 year old's AU fanfic about 50 Shades of Gray a thousand times and then write it's own mafia romance, I feel like this is the book we'd have gotten.

Chapter-by-chapter breakdown of my sanity begins here:

Christ, that took entirely too long to get through.

Usually I devour these sorts of books. This one, though? I actually feel more accomplished for having finished it. Like I've just climbed Everest.

I am convinced that anyone who 5-starred this is an actual bot. There's no way a real human being could have enjoyed this that much. This was fucking agony.

This book! I’m in love with Bastian and Mo!!

The mafia king and the hippie! I can’t get enough of the push and pull. The fight and the giving in. This book is all of that and more. I love the naïve Moriana. The tough as nails but stable defender Sebastian. One book won’t be enough of this couple. I hope we see them in future books!!

I was blessed to receive an ARC of this book. I absolutely loved this book. Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite troupes. And the enemies to lovers aspects of this book with the fighting between them and the angst was just everything I love. If these are elements that you love in books you’ll love Shattered Vows! Shain Rose has brought us another one to add the the favorites list!

Sebastian Armanelli!!! Oh my gosh! The tension is immaculate. Shain can keep a girl waiting and give her a little something to hold her over. The frustration is tantalizing! I cannot express how frustrated I was throughout this. Bastian is everything I want in a man right down to a kink I never knew I had until recently. Morina, oh how I relate to her on so many levels.

Again, I’m mad at booktok because I thought this book was worth the hype. The plot ist so confusing and all over the place, also the writing seems like it was not proof-read. The girl is dumb, bratty and ignorant whereas the guys only characteristic is that he’s rich and wants to be different than his father. There’s absolutely no chemistry between these two. I just couldn’t pull through and don’t see why I should read a Book I’ll never come to like.

This is the best Mafia book I have read this year. To me, Bastian and Sebastian are two different people but Morina sees both and wants both. The two characters are stubborn and fiercely protective, even though she doesn’t always show it. I love the storyline and the danger that comes with it. Excellent writing. Spectacular storyline.

Shattered vows was the perfect arranged marriage romance that I needed to read. Something about a grumpy mafia king with a sunshiny heroine makes me all happy. 🥰 The tension, the push and pull, sparks started flying and I was hooked!

Morina is like a free spirited mermaid that goes with the flow and never commits to finishing anything (and loves her crystals).. and then she’s forced into an arranged marriage to Bastian the grumpy mafia boss. Less than 6 months and they completely shatter each other’s worlds, and flip themselves upside down. For better or for worse..you will just have to read and see. 🤫

Here are some of my favorite highlights..
🌊 “I don’t just fill voids, love. I obliterate them.”
🌊“I protect what’s mine. And that’s you. My fiancé.”
🌊“Brilliant. Beautiful. And brutal. That’s what that smile was. She’d wreck my world if I wasn’t careful.”
🌊“I’m yours. Your Untouchable. And every part of you is mine. The good, and mostly the bad.”

Update:

After reading and finishing this book less than 24 hours after it has been released (yes, I stayed up until 2am to get my hands on this book because I'm in central time zone 🤪), I feel a little drunk on this universe and its characters! For those who are new to Shain Rose, I really recommend reading her previous books before reading Shattered Vows. While the Stonewood Brothers Trilogy are technically standalones, several characters from SV are in them and play a major part to the dynamic. I would also push readers to read the New Reign Mafia Duet books before touching this one. I'd like to think of it as "prequel" to Bastian and his Mafia family and why they are the way they are.

I did totally love this book, but not gonna lie, I preferred Bastian in NRMD. When I read those 2 books, I would always squeal and comment "oh my Bastian baby!" I did love how in SV you get to see a more in depth character resolution by showing readers how he is different from most mafia alphas you read about. While he does have a dominant side🤤😏, he is also peaceful and willing to compromise.

I had a bit of trouble relating and connecting to the heroine in SV. Morina calls herself a hippy and believes in crystals, horoscopes, salt lamps, etc... She's definitely eccentric, but I personally would not have chosen to pair her with Bastian. They are opposites in every manner, and I know opposites are supposed to attract, but their "semi slow burn" romance is why I did not give this book a full 5 stars. The ending felt a little abrupt and the romance was "told," rather than being "seen" in several parts. I feel like I would have connected better to Morina if she had more of an action seeking role. She is wishy-washy and the mafia life Bastian lives, in my opinion, does not mesh well with her character.

I was really excited to see Rome, Katie, Cade, Dante, and sweet Ivy again! I wish we could have seen more of the family dynamic and mafia politics that we left off with 5 years ago in NRMD. Ivy was literally a darling and had her uncles wrapped around her finger!😍

I'm so excited that Dante and Cade will also be getting their own books as well! In all Shain Rose's other books, Cade has always been portrayed as the quiet, technologic hacker. There has always been slight comments about Cade that allude to him being more than meets the eye. I think he will give us all a run for our money, and I AM HERE FOR IT!!!

Well, it's been officially 24 hours since I downloaded SV from KU, so I will call it a night with this review! Go read Shattered Vows and all of the other books mentioned! You will not regret it!😁😏

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I seriously cannot wait for Bastian's book! He has always been one of my favorite side characters in the books Shain Rose has wrote him in. My question is, have we already met the heroine in the other books or are we meeting someone new who can light Bastian's world on fire!?!? Ughhhhhh why do I have to wait till February 10th to read it on KU?!?!😭😍

Shattered Vows starts with Morina Bailey joining her friend at a club. Morina is looking for a one night stand to take her mind off of her dying grandmother. Her friend has challenged her to talk to the guy she decides on for thirty minutes before leaving with him. Sebastian Armanelli is not her first choice but the man she ends up spending an unforgettable night with. Then the two go back to their separate lives or so they believe.
Bastian is the most fair and people pleasing mafia boss. He is trying hard to undo the wrongs of his father by making all the family’s business legitimate. He does this by often finding compromises that will make all those involved satisfied. The last piece to transform involves Morina’s grandmother, which is news to both Morina and Bastian. Soon after this revelation, Maribel (Morina’s grandmother) dies. And her will indicates that the only way for Sebastian and Morina to both receive what they want, they must marry for at least six months.
Morina is a free spirit that is always trying to center herself with crystals and daily horoscope readings. She has long had a fear of commitment but she is still a smart and kind person. The dynamic between Bastin and Morina is interesting as he is not the dominating alpha we often think of as a mafia boss (or is he?). He wants to do right by Morina and for her to be her own person but is also very protective of her. I really enjoyed that he respected Morina and believed in her abilities. Morina does not fully understand Bastin’s role in his world and often questions things. Her mantra from her grandmother is, “Quick decisions need to be made”. Which is the complete opposite of Bastian’s calculating and overthinking ways.
Throughout the book the characters reveal more of their individual pasts that have shaped them into the people they are today. This allows for them to better understand each other as well. And ultimately they have to find a balance of their personalities.
I was intrigued by Bastian’s diplomatic ways as a mafia boss, it is a unique storyline that I felt Rose pulled off very well. Morina is a character that you cannot help but love even if you do not completely agree with her practices. And she was the perfect push that Sebastian needed to grow to his full potential. Overall it was a great and original story that I would not mind rereading.

3.5 stars: New to me author- but I've been seeing these gorgeous covers all around, and I love me some dark mafia romance. And the blurb felt so original- a type of mafia heroine that felt "different" than the normal trope, and a different type of opposites clash.

The tropes abound- opposites, marriage of convenience, mafia, etc. And, overall I enjoyed this story. I did find the exposition to move pretty slowly, and the characters felt a bit static in places (but they are meant to frustrate us at times!), but the chemistry was good and the mixture of mafia suspense and arranged marriage unexpected love was good. The dialogue felt a bit unnatural to me at times, though- though I enjoyed Bastien and Morina together overall and the latter half definitely kept the pages turning.

Even though I read this series in the weirdest order (starting with Part 3—oops), I still really enjoyed Shattered Vows!

While this one didn’t quite hit the same as Corrupted Chaos, it was still a solid read. From the very first moment, Bastian was obsessed with Morina in the best way, and I didn’t expect this storyline combined with the arranged marriage trope. Their push-and-pull dynamic was entertaining, but I do think they ran circles around each other for way too long. Like… 85% in, and they still weren’t really together?! That said, the spice was definitely on point. 🔥

The whole daddy thing? Maybe a bit overused, but honestly, I laughed 9 times out of 10 because it was mostly done as a joke. 😂

I really appreciated how Bastian and Morina did get to deeper conversations eventually, and their forced proximity made their bond more believable. Also… MOONSHINE! Cutest little addition.

If anything, I wish the last 10% had been more fleshed out. Everything wrapped up so fast! Still, a great read overall. Shain Rose definitely knows how to keep me hooked!

Bastian/Sebastian Armanelli the King of the Mafia however, he is changing his dark family business to a legal business. What I truely love we see him change his world and the sacrifices he made...no spoilers. He takes on the world one his own but no one is strong enough to help him until his magical mermaid came along

Morina/Mo she is a go with the flow mermaid. She was not a mermaid but she loves the sea and she protects the sea & the land too. Mo has a big heart but she keeps it shielded because, of her past...no spoilers. One man made it through and showed her with words & actions here to stay & protect.

Mo & Bastian love story will mKe you laugh & cry because you will want to hit them sometimes. AND their is a new addition to their little family...no spoilers. Granny hid a secret.
No nonsense, stubborn, simple living, straight talking granny hid a Big secret from the trusting, ocean loving, Morina.
Our heroine so free, so innocent, so refreshingly good… WAIT! That said… she’s an interesting girl, a blossoming woman and heiress that never saw it all coming. Her innocence draws you like a flame. Charming you with her child-like pure enthusiasm and trust that everything will be right in the world.
Opposite is our hero Bastian born unto old Mafia that he wants to be clean. And clean up his fathers act he is. But it is a work in progress, the light and dark, the holding back on tempers… and the killing. He’s still head of the family- protector, keeper of secrets, the doer of better. He is two pieces of one person because old Mafia lurks within ducking and diving to come out to ‘play’. Morina sees both of his sides and like no one before, yearns to keep, submit, love, both.
The chemistry was hot, the suspense well plotted and the hurriedly arranged marriage spiking with shock, change and lust.
I enjoyed Bastien and Morina’s story. The side players are worthy of their own stories too. (Maybe they already have a story devoted to them, I’ll have to check!)
A definite page turner, I couldn’t put it down.
I love good dark mafia romance and this is good.

This book gave me a feeling of warmth and love all along it's pages . I loved this book would be an understatement because I'm beyond words to praise it .

Morina free spirited girl goes into one night stand with the man she had best night of her life with . But what will happen when this ohh so hot night turns into a nightmare when he turns out to be her husband for 6 months to save her town ???

Bastain never imagined his one night stand would be the one he would have to go in business with to undo his father's doing . But he's ready to do the right thing by entering into this arranged marriage . He's careful every step of the way that he doesn't get attached that it's just a business deal . Will he be able to keep up with that ???

Bastain is freaking possesive amd you'll enjoy every second of it when the scenes will come into play . I absolutely loved his possesiveness . Also let me tell you he has a way with his words 🥵🥵

I loved the way Bastian appreciates Morina in his head the way it's written it becomes the best part of the novel to read through .

This novel was a emotional rollercoaster it made me smile blush and cry when the end came along 😩.

I enjoyed reading this novel and I loved every second of it . You never fail to disappoint me shain . Love you ❤️

Shattered Vows by Shain Rose involves characters previously encountered in her two-part series, New Reign Mafia. I loved Bastian in that series, and I am glad that we were given the chance to learn his story. Bastian is the gatekeeper for the Armanelli Crime Family. Repressing his need to dominate, he is systemically moving his family away from a life of crime into all legitimate business endeavors. One of the last things on his list involves a dying grandmother and an oil refinery. How did he know that his recent one-night stand would be involved? Free spirited and new age, Morina is the opposite of Bastian on all levels. They are forced into a marriage of convenience in order to sort out the shares in the oil refinery. Reading how the unflappable Bastian deals with his scattered new bride was very amusing. They were a cute couple and I look forward to reading about our two favorite side characters, Dante and Cade, soon!

Marina believes in star signs, crystals and horoscopes. She’s humble and about to lose her grandmother to cancer any day. On a night out with her best friend Libby she met Bastian. Now the head of the Armanelli mafia after permanently removing his father, he is trying to clean up all of the dirty businesses.
Morina and Bastian are complete polar opposite’s. She’s a chilled, laid back hippy whereas he’s a serious meticulous mafia Don trying to right all his fathers wrongs.
After her food truck that she’s sleeping in was broken into, he insists she moves into a nearby penthouse that he had just purchased for them to live in. They get on pretty well and then their relationship starts to deepen.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable and well written read.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. Bastian and Morina are dangereously smoking characters artfully crafted. Their passion and Chemistry rules this book. The storyline is great, I love the angst and fire of these two characters. This is a must read.
