Please be advised: Paid to the Pirate is a Dark Romance and a Historical Fantasy. Please check the Content Expectations before reading.
Una Rohr spends her free time reveling in fantasy. Nothing snaps her attention like a dominant male in single-minded pursuit of a headstrong female -- except when those same lovers initially despise one another. She reads and writes these angst-filled pairings (and their happy endings) from the East Coast of the U.S.
Romance? Dark. Characters? Gray. Cheeks? Flushed pink as you read, I hope.
Didn't Austen say something like, "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a dominant man in possession of a powerful will, must be in want of a brat." (Or did I get that wrong? ;)

i was pleasantly surprised by how much i really enjoyed this book. from the amazing set up, to the plot, to the immaculate spice, EVERYTHING. it had me invested since the first chapter until the end.
both of the main characters were also amazing. tbh, i had a love&hate relationship with Captain Colt but he’s been in love with Charlotte for years and after everything that she had been through, our Charlotte deserved to be loved 🥹
overall, this book was great. it made me cry, swoon, laugh, giggle, smile. i had no idea how was it possible to feel all the emotions in one book, but Una Rohr’s writing DID that.
this book’s definitely one of darkest romance books i’ve read to date and also one of the spiciest😌
i would highly recommend this book if you’re looking for something “different” to read. but please, make sure to check all the trigger warnings ‼️
“and there has never been a moment i haven’t loved you. only moments in which i love you more, because i have, with each passing day since the day i saw the real you… and maybe even before” 🥹
This is a well written book with strong characters in Charlotte and Colt. The author brings a love/hate story with tons of action. She does a terrific job painting her scenes and bringing an accurate dialogue and delivers an entertaining romance with amnesia, twists and turns and some mystery. It's an intriguing story told in the dual POV and is an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
A perfectly paced sassy and kinky adventure of two main characters. One who is desperately trying to rediscover the mysterious forgotten parts of her past and the other attempting to reconcile his heart in the face of his obligation.
Charlotte who doesn’t remember her life before she washed ashore is astonished she could have ever had dealings with a crew of depraved pirates. Then there is Captain Colt needing to recover what was stolen from him by Charlotte while also struggling with wanting to protect her from everyone and everything except for him. Charlotte’s fiery and slightly bratty personality tests the limits of Colt’s patience while fueling his desire for her submission.
I truly enjoyed this read and the interactions between the main characters as well as the supporting characters. The story kept me interested until the very end.

•This was my first pirate romance book and I loved it! This book was told in dual POV and in dual time zones!

Mini review: •I loved the vibes between the two characters! They had a sassy and kinky relationship with each other. Both Charlotte and Colt are trying to protect their secrets at all costs, and even try and hide the secrets from themselves.
•"I love you," I whispered, swallowing the lump in my throat. "I don't know when I fell in love with you. But I know that I do." I chewed my lip before continuing. "Do you think you could... love me, as well?"
The book starts off strong, grabbing your attention with the captain recognizing Charlotte, who has no memory before she washed up on the beach two years ago. Una kept the story going at an amazing pace. It sucked me in and I was stuck to finish while trying to take care of my baby… (let me tell you how difficult that was)😂 the book is that good. There were little plot twists that I did not see coming at all and it demanded my attention the entire book. I couldn’t put it down. Oh my goddddd the spiceeeeeee 🥵 there’s not a ton of it but when it’s there, it’s so gooddddd.
On top of the actual story the writing so so good and being the grammar but that I am some books definitely make me lose my mind when there are too many errors. I found very, very few errors in this book. A+
I don’t leave many 5* reviews anymore but this one gets it from me.

I loved this book from the beginning to the end!!! This book is separated into 3 parts. The first part is when Lady Charlotte is "reunited" with Captain Colt. Due to Charlotte suffering from memory lost she does not remember Colt and his merry men but she knows that there is a connection there. She agrees to go with him and his crew to save her village from being harmed but she tends to find his weaknesses to use against him when they come back to her village after traveling to another village.
Colt doesn't know that Charlotte lost her memory and she acts as she doesn't know him but he thinks that she just tricking him. He tries to "spank" her into submission which was pretty hot! Along their travels Charlotte does make some dump choices for someone who seems to be a Lady but she does fall in love with Colt.
The second part of the book goes back in time to how Charlotte first met Colt, Robert and Maurice in her father's home. Charlotte or should I say Charlie was disguised as a boy for the first few years living on the ship with them and their crew and they all thought she was a boy. I felt bad for when she started having her periods while on the ship. The crew found out that Charlie was actually Charlotte when she was about to be whipped for stealing food and medical supplied, luckily Colt saved her.
After an accident involving Charlotte, Maurice, a rare ruby and a bag-o-bits, part 3 starts and its fast forward to the present. Charlotte gains her memories and tells them about what happened to her. I don't want to spoil the whole book but it does end an HEA!!!
Once I started reading this book I could not stop. There are a lot of chapters but it kept me on my toes from the beginning to the end.

I loved this book! Pirate Spice? Yes please! So this book alternates perspectives between our MMC Captain Colt and Charlotte.
It starts out with Charlotte living on a tiny island with no memory. She was found washed ashore with nothing but a locket around her neck. (Or so it appeared till we learn the truth later)
While staying on this island, one day the dreaded Captain Colt and his crew, drop anchor and come onto land. He is there to collect dues. (Basically it's like ppl pay taxes to the pirates to not get raided by them)
When he reaches the tavern Charlotte is working at, he recognizes her! Well instead of the normal payment he takes Charlotte instead as his payment.
Come to find out they blame Charlotte for the death of someone and for stealing a gem. And they want the truth of where it is. Charlotte still has 0 memory and was advised by the ppl taking care of her to keep up the premise of she's a lady and don't recognize them and to not reveal her memory loss.
This is where it kinda escalates as Colt punishes her with spankings ;) till she tells where it is and Charlotte plotting an escape.
This book was utterly phenomenal and I devoured every word of it. The spice scenes were all written and the spice didn't take away from the plot.
I highly recommend it to fans of Spice, and Black Sails.

Id give this 3.5 stars. It’s was good but not great! I think the only reason I liked it is because I’m still in my pirate fantasy era. Plus the spice level was top notch in this!!
Charlotte had lost some memories of her past but there was something about Captain Colt ... So many twists and turns and the connection between Charlotte and Colt sent shivers down me! A fab read from a newly discovered author.

Do you ever finish a book and immediately have the urge to read it all over again?
Paid to the Pirate is an extremely well written and captivating dark romance! The TENSION in this book is *chef's kiss* and I was absolutely hooked from the start. I don't really read Historical Romance, but this didn't feel like that to me. Definitely had more fantasy vibes, even though it takes place during the Colonial period. The plot was fantastic and continuously kept me in suspense, but the true stars were the characters, particularly Charlotte and Colt, and I absolutely adored both of them ❤️
I truly cannot recommend this book enough and am so incredibly grateful that I stumbled across the ARC and had the chance to read it. I've already purchased a physical copy for my personal library and can't wait for it to arrive!
"'Get those legs spread, now,” Colt growled. “Or I’ll tie them apart and call every man on this ship to watch.'"
I swear, the things I would let Captain Colt do to me... 🥵🔥
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
Charlotte has definitely become one of my comfort characters. She’s so feisty and such a well written character. On top of that, this book has a great mixture of storyline and spice. 10/10
This was so good! There’s definitely a need for the trigger warnings at the beginning. But, it’s such a powerful story. I was intrigued from the very beginning. And the twists and turns had me reeling. I wanted to cry and hate Colt but, then root for his and Charlotte’s happy ending. I would love more from the author! 5 stars!!
I absolutely ADORED THIS. It gave a everything it promised to deliver and more! The writing is so beautiful, and along with the world build and the atmosphere created I was instantly inserted into the book.
ALSO THE ROMANCE? AMAZING. The two mcs have some of the best banter and chemistry I've read, and their sexual encounters were written perfectly. I cannot recommend this enough, perferct spicy summer read.
This book is great! Though I will admit I got a little exhausted with how often it got spicy! But that’s a personal issue! a lot of times I get more into the story and when they interrupt the story with spice I can get a little tired of it. That’s not to say they weren’t great I just was way more interested in charlotte and colts story and having a kinky scene every other chapter felt like more than I normally see! But that’s more of a what are you reading it for issue. I like both but having a perfect spice to story balance would be so subjective I don’t think you can have a universally perfect balance.
Normally I’d say amnesia is overused but it brought for a very interesting story line where you followed someone who knew nothing about her previous life and another person who knew so much! (Though I feel at some point colt should have caught on much sooner though he was going off the thought that she was trying to essentially con them so I guess it makes sense but I still have thoughts that go into spoiler territory so I won’t write it here). I truly did love the banter and chemistry between our two heroes it made for a great story!
Did not expect to fall so hard for this book and these tortured characters. I'm floored. I don't even enjoy some of the kinks in this, but I loved what they had and their connection and I was so addicted. Def not for those who like the good boys and sweet problem free relationships or angst free characters cuz they were NOT that, but the struggle was worth it to find the HEA. The characters were strong and I felt for them and their traumas so hard.
This book made me blush as much as Charlotte did😂 I haven’t read any smut in a while so diving into this one was crazy but I loved every bit of it. Looking for an adventure filled suspense with filthy pirates and even filthier scenes, then this should be right up your alley.
So, Charlotte had amnesia and no idea who she was or how she washed up naked ashore a small settlement so when Colt the Cruel, a fierce pirate comes along claiming she’s his, she isn’t exactly willing to accept what he’s saying. Amidst a plot to bring the pirates down and regain her memory, Charlotte boards their ship as Colt seeks answers about what he says she stole from her the night he ran away. Every part of this was so good but the last quarter had me talking to the wall repeatedly😂 So many twists and revelations that it was almost crazy. Also, Charlotte got in her own way so many times because Colt was obsessed with her basically and her “hate” for him simply kept her blinded to the fact that this man would literally give up all his earthly possessions and even his captain ship and crew for her. (PS. He actually did do this which was like the ultimate test of his love ahhhh🫠). I’d definitely recommend this book for any smutty book lovers plus it also had plot and adventure that tied the whole book together💚
Quotes: “I’d make you answer the question but you’d just lie, wouldn’t you?” He traced my mouth. “These lips lie.“ His hand slid down my stomach. “But these lips don’t.”
“Lay with me tonight. Just beside me. Nothing more. Not because I’m tying you down or forcing you. Stay with me because you want to.”
“I love you. I don’t know when I fell in love with you. But I know that I do. Do you think you could…love me as well?” “Charlotte, I’ve been in love with you for years.”
“I’m afraid.” “I can see that and it only makes me harder.” “I hate you.” “Yes, I think a part of you does. And that only stiffens my c*ck.” “Is there anything I can say that doesn’t excite you?”
“The only way you can ever inspire a lady to kiss you is by threatening her life.” I snapped. “Now that’s not true at all. I know another method to inspire your kiss. Shall I try that instead?”
“The truth, Charlotte.” “I don’t know what you mean.” “For as long as you’ve hated me, for as much as you hate me still…you desire me.” “I- I…” “Say it.”
“I hate you. I hate you so much.” “I think you’ll hate me more if I stop.” “Don’t. Please.” “Say it again.” “Don’t stop. Please.” “As my lady commands.”
Tropes: Touch Her And ☠️ Possessive MMC Dual POV He Falls First Enemies To Lovers Dark/Captive Romance Amnesia Pirates Historical romance
They each have a secret. but her lips are scaled
Let’s start by saying, when the book starts we are dumped in the middle of a secret. Charlotte has amnesia and does not remember anything about her life. Stuck in a little town, working in an inn, she finds herself at the Mercy of pirates, their captain none other than Captain Colt and he is known for being cruel.
He wants her back. She doesn’t understand why.
Charlotte finds herself on Captain Colt’s ship, and first things first he wants to know something that she is hiding and that she did two years ago that she does not remember. The tension between these two was something else even with the “punishment.” With no memories of her past it was easy to understand how the FMC could fall for the MMC.
The book starts in the present and then goes back in the past to show us where we began from. That feeling of being dumped in the middle of the secret reveals everything at some point. It all comes together.
I loved the MCs. Colt literally loved the FMC even when he thought she was a man. Part two of the book I loved most, seeing how everything added up to part one. Read this in one sitting and I loved it. The side characters were amazing. Loved everything.
Read this in one sitting. Got me out of a reading slump.
Paid to the Pirate is a riveting tale of revenge, love, and betrayal. The story follows Captain Colt, a ruthless pirate who invades a Carolina settlement, demanding tribute and seeking revenge against a girl who slipped through his grasp two years ago. Charlotte, the girl in question, cannot understand why Colt would demand her as payment for not attacking their fledgling settlement. However, with no memory of her past, Charlotte is willing to submit to Colt's demands if it means uncovering her past.
As Charlotte embarks on a journey aboard Colt's ship, she vows to use her time as his captive to bring down his band of pirates from the inside. However, the persistent ache between her legs whenever Captain Colt appears makes it difficult for Charlotte to stay focused on her mission.
The author masterfully weaves a tale of two vulnerable hearts who are willing to protect their dark secrets at any cost. The book is a perfect blend of dark romance and historical fantasy, making it a must-read for anyone who loves a good adventure story. Nevertheless, it's important to note that the book contains mature content, and readers are advised to check the content expectations before diving into this thrilling read. Overall, Paid to the Pirate is a well-crafted story that is sure to leave readers on the edge of their seats and begging for more.
MFC Charlotte was found washed up on a beach with no memory of her past and then taken in by kindhearted tavern owners which now finds her leading a quite but safe life until the day MMC Pirate Captain Colt and his crew arrive and decides she will be payment in return for them not sacking the settlement. It becomes obvious he and his crew know who she is and there is a history there which will be revealed slowly but surely in what is a definite bodice ripper with the added aside of BDSM so I would read any trigger warnings the author has provided before diving into this one which had a very dark romance within a very engaging story which I did enjoy. Charlotte keeps her memory loss secret from Colt and his crew in fear of having it used against her and none are the wiser as she secretly tries to learn from them who she really was. The BDSM encounters only occur between Colt and herself as he tries to exact the truth from her over those past events and her motives for leaving which is the premise of the storyline that will develop into so much more. The writing was good with Action-adventure, intrigue, and SPICE that made it a definite hallmark of a journey on the high seas.

A Locket, Mystery, Bits in a Bag, Daring Escapes: The story begins with a shocking surprise with the discovery of Charlotte by Colt the horrible pirate who knows who she is even though she doesn't know who she is. No memory? Oh, dear, where will this gripping, twisting, topsy turvy story going to take us? Well, there is lots of action, angry angst, physical attraction that appears in an unusual way from my perspective not having read many dark romance stories, I did start to get a little bored with a bit too much disciplining. The descriptive language is explicit. The main characters were very intriguing characters. Each had hidden emotional demons to conquer along with a growing hate love relationship between Charlotte and Colt. I did like the way the author has written this story in the first person. It seemed to work as an advantage for this book. The ending was terrifying but leads to a happy ending. ✔Adult Advisory: I had reservations of a new author and reading a dark romance but I'm glad I took the leap. A learning lesson for me. ✔I love pirate stories and this cover is stunning. ✔I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest opinion.

Wow, I have no words, but need to find some for this review. For one, I was angry when needing to take a break from this book because I was so lost in the story I just wanted to continue. The last two chapters had me on the edge of my seat because I just needed to know what was going to happen, and seeing both views from Colt and Charolette had my heart ripping in two for both of them.
I loved the story line, and I love Charolettes continuous battle within herself between hate and love. I loved watching her journey of forgiveness and understanding for the actions Colt had to take through out the years he knew her. My jaw dropped so many times through out the read as I was taking in new emerging information at every turn.
The writing style was simple yet accurate to the tone and dialogue of the characters, and you can't help but fall in love with not just the main characters, but other characters that helped transform the story as well.
This was excellently written and I was not disappointed. 5 stars for me.
Potential spoilers: the FMC loses her memory, and while the time she’s at her “new” home is brief (which I appreciated) it felt a little lacking. The MMC finds the FMC after her being missing for two years. The story line goes from there.
Throughout the beginning part the FMC is trying to keep her amnesia from the captain, but honestly all her “problems” would have been solved if she just admitted it to begin with. The beginning spicy scenes were pretty decent. Based on the description I was expecting a little more. The end of section one occurs when her memories come flooding back.
The second part is entirely her previous memories, which I didn’t enjoy. There’s this feeling of “what am I missing” throughout the first section, but the second fills in most of those gaps.
The third part brings us back to where the story left off with the flashbacks. I don’t think there’s a need for a part one, part two, and part three if you’re going to go back later and say Charlotte - past. Just specify that.
The ending seemed rushed, and once the second part started the spice left the book. I overall enjoyed the storyline, but would have liked more spicy.

I'm leaving a voluntary review I'm exchnage for an advanced read of this 📖 So Paid to the Pirate follows Charlotte, a young woman with a very short memory of her life knowing nothing before washing up on a beach 2 years previous and being taken in by the kind village folk and working in the local inn/tavern. One cloudy evening the alarms sound that pirates were coming ashore with no time to send for help nor hide. Once making themselves known and their demands, a clueless Charlotte does her duty pouring ale to keep the peace until the captain recognises the girl who got away and slipped through his fingers two years ago, taking with her irreplaceable treasure that would have turned their fortunes. He demands she be handed over and takes her with them, vowing to punish her every evening until she confesses why she stole and ran and where it is now. Charlotte with no knowledge of what they speak is in a precarious situation and takes more pleasure from her punishments than she wants to admit. Solid plot, chemistry and spice! Some parts felt a little long winded but overall a good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶🌶
This is story that about strong characters Charlotte and Colt.
I'm going to tell you a little bit about the story but not to much as don't want to spoil it 😜

Definitely worth the read, it's action packed, with spice . I definitely recommend this book. 📚
- FMC is living in a remote island for 2ish(?) years with no memory of her past. She washed up on the beach and another character found her
- One day, pirates visit their town. When serving them drinks, the captain recognises her and bargains for her to come with them
- MMC believes the FMC betrayed them and is adamant that she stole their treasures and fled. FMC has no memory and doesn’t believe she was ever part of their crew
- Lots of tension and dislike between the two characters as they don’t trust each other
- FMC eventually regains her memory. When she was younger, the MMC killed her dad. She pretended to be a boy so that they wouldn’t kill her and take her onboard. She had always planned to get revenge by stealing the treasures from them
- can’t remember what else happens. Good book, I enjoyed the tropes and was easy to read

Elizabeth Swan meets Killian Jones? Yes please! Charlotte “Charlie” believes herself to be a lady with little to no memory of the past, that is until Captain Colt blows in and bargains for her in exchange for leaving the port unharmed. With encouragement of the towns people she leaves hoping to find a way back home in one piece. Colt has some other ideas and is determined to get back what was once his. Not without some trials and misunderstandings along the way Colt and Charlie find more than just her lost memories but each other and a crew of loyal friends who come along for the next adventure. Spice level: 3.
