Well, that was decidedly an emotional rollercoaster. Another enthralling read by Amy Rose Bennett.
My Thoughts
- Ms Bennett presented a seemingly uncomplicated plot with exceedingly complicated characters. Love can be found when you truly are open for it, was my take away.
- This wasn't as emotionally charged as it's predecessor, but it was more about emotional healing, dealing with guilt and past trauma. Rafe and Georgiana made this story beautiful.
- I enjoy reading believable romances and this was one. I could see they would be perfect for each other even with the element of insta-intrigue.
- The mystery surrounding Georgiana's past and the villain heightened the reading experience. I was with the characters every step of the way. This story kept me involved.
- This is proving to be a difficult review to write as most of what I want to say will involve major spoilers. So the highlights would be:
*Rafe - A gentle, charming, sweet & protective man with plenty shadows in his past. He was as far away from a rake as one can get. He was so committed to Georgiana, well before they embarked on their affair. He knew she would mean more to him that just a temporary fling. Oh, how I love that.
*Georgiana - Oh, this woman is the very definition of a survivor. The thing she overcame, dear Lord! The asshole responsible did not get enough justice, and I wish he was tortured to the worst degree possible. With Rafe, she blossomed, came into her own, realised her own value. Her character had wonderful depth.
*The romance, I've said already, was wonderful, poignant and made for each other kind. This one was teensy bit less steamy than the previous one, but I get why that must have been the case.
- A couple of small issues:
*If Georgiana's past was revealed earlier, it would have added tremendous weight to her character development.
*Rafe should have come back on his own, not because of the reason. I think if the reason was not presented to him, there was no motivation.
*And finally, where is my epilogue? I need closure!
My Recommendation
You cannot go wrong with this series. I wait with baited breath for the third instalment to release at the end of the year.

Georgiana "Georgie" Dudley is known as the Ice Duchess. Rafe, Lord Markham, is a retired spy for the Crown. They meet over a card game. Intrigue and sparks fly, but Rafe has enemies who could seek revenge for his spying activities. Can he keep Georgie safe from his enemies? Will love be enough to starve off his past?
This is an easy read. We come to know a lot about the main characters, enough to make us care for them. Though there is no cliffhanger, we feel there is more left to the story. The last scene didn't feel like the right ending to me. There is explicit sex and adult language in this novel.

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts... for more, visit Punya Reviews...
This is what I thought in a nutshell. Looking at the reviews, I seem to be the minority here but it’s what it is. The Ice Duchess by Amy Rose Bennett wasn’t what I had anticipated it would be. I have been waiting for this one since I read book 1 of Scandalous Regency Widows, Lady Beauchamp's Proposal. While I absolutely adored book 1, this did not hold my attentions for long.
Our h, Georgiana had a sad past, which made her so wary of men that she’d not fall in love or marry. Since she also didn’t want to spend her life as a spinster, Georgiana or Georgie as her family calls her, ended up marrying a good friend Teddy, who was also a Duke. But there was a secret to their marriage not everyone knew, and the few who did, never talked about it. Georgiana’s brother, Jonathan, is gay. And Teddy was his lover. With the taboo surrounding the whole thing, they had to find a way to continue on. Georgiana was eager to help too.
Even though it was a total MOC with no plans for a consummation (seeing Georgiana wanted it that way), she’d always known what Jonathan and Teddy were up to. She was happy with this arrangement, protected by Teddy’s title, enjoying his platonic company. Sadly, he suddenly passed away a few years ago, leaving Georgiana bereaved (though it didn’t look like Jonathan was as sad as she was). She still grieved for her friend, and at the same time, determined to remain a widow. She didn’t want any entanglement with any men, not even for a bit of fun. But Jonathan and their friends, a couple, Philip and Helena (who I think also appeared in book 1), wanted to get her out of her shell and have her meet other men. But with her aloof and cold demeanor, though beautiful, Georgiana had already garnered the title of the Ice Duchess and no man, so far, had been able to break her out of it.
Until one day, when Rafe Landsbury, an Earl, is thrust upon her by the meddling above mentioned brother and friends. It was pre-planned, the whole game of cards, which Georgiana played rather well. But Rafe’s dubious charm, alongside his good-looks addlepated her so badly that she ends up losing. For the first time in her life. Then she loses again when challenges are thrown with stipulation. Rafe just wants to have some “fun”. He already knew he’d been able to ruffle the Ice Duchess quite well. He’s a known rake and this gives his ego a big boost. He wanted Georgiana in his bed, as soon as possible..... which happens rather quickly, and knowing her abhorrence for men, I couldn’t believe how easily Georgiana let Rafe touch her and jumped into his bed too! Most especially, when I finally learned of what happened to her! Regardless, their affair begins with the blessing of Jonathan, Phillip and Helena. I think that was the first time I was rather put off by the story; everything happened too soon for my liking where chemistry was rather lukewarm at best.
Rafe was introduced in book 1 as the hero’s friend, and had a brief appearance. But I remember precious little about him to judge him by because I read that one in 2014. In this book, I didn’t care neither for him, nor Georgiana. There was a murder mystery plot brewing too, a past of Rafe’s coming back of haunt him. A shadow from his days as a spy of the Crown. That bit was quite the mess, with many, many affairs, all in the name of the King and country (yeah right!). One of those went wrong, the woman was murdered and her vengeful husband is now onto Rafe, and Georgiana too, because of her involvement with him. I generally don’t care for rakes, and wasn’t really amused reading about his ‘rakish days’, with stories to go with no less! But Georgiana seemed quite interested in them. :/ Either way, that was the second thing that put me off the story.
It seemed that Rafe had feelings for Georgiana too but he wasn’t certain if it’s safe to be a committed relationship. To prove his point, she’s thrust into the danger’s path a few times, the last being quite nerve wrecking so Rafe decides to end things with her. Just like that. Completely in her face, leaving Georgiana shattered since she was totally in love with him. His reason, if he’s not around then she’d not be in any danger again. :|
A month later, she had decided to do the same thing she’d done with her first marriage; this time to save her unborn child from the stigma of being born a bastard. Georgiana knew it’s pointless to tell Rafe since he’s washed his hands off her. This new young Lord that Jonathan is involved with now can give her a home, and a name for her baby, even if she’d never know a man’s touch again. I found it rather troubling that Jonathan was fine with the whole thing once again; that he didn’t seek Rafe out and demanded that he do the right thing! Was he simply taking advantage of his sister’s sad situation? I don’t know but it didn’t feel quite right.
Anyway........Rafe was woken up from his drunken stupor by the news of Georgiana’s marriage. The only thing that stirred Rafe though, was a possibility that she maybe pregnant, which must be the reason why she was hastily going down a path she refused to until now. I distinctly felt if she didn’t confirm her pregnancy to him, Rafe wouldn’t really have bothered to step into her life again. I wasn’t sure I liked that thought. I did like Georgiana at first, but I never could understand what exactly she saw in Rafe, and it took its toll on me in the end.
I really, really wanted to like The Ice Duchess; trust me, I tried. I even stopped reading for a while cause sometimes, when a book doesn’t work the way I hoped it would, I leave it off for a while and it bounces right back. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen here. *sigh* BUT that doesn’t mean I’ve lost interest in the series. It’s quite common to not love all the installments in a series, at least for me. And I love Amy’s writing style, so I’ll be waiting to see what’s next from her. 3 stars.

Mediocre
The story is mediocre at best. Completely ridiculous actually. This book is carried by several explicit sex scenes. Besides that, there's not much more worth mentioning.
I kept reading, kind of annoyed, giving it 2 stars but then occasionally encountering parts (mostly the sex scenes) that were better. I bet the story was written around the sex scenes!
Anyway, I give it maybe 2.5 stars.
If you want porn, this is the book for you. If you want a love story or any story that is even remotely believable or somewhat accurate, it is not.
Oh. And just as a side note regarding one of those many little annoying things in this story:
I am German. Scherzfrage does not mean riddle.

Received in return for an honest review, naughtiness scale 4*
Wow is not a word that should do this amazing book justice but is how I feel, completely loved the story and how it moved and wound to reach the end, it had me captivated to the point where I literally could not put it down, in parts was giggling in other parts shouting at my ereader at which point my son asked me if I was mad, without giving spoilers I can tell you that every possible emotion that can be felt will be, I definitely was rooting for our hero and heroine, as always in romance stubbornness can factor hence I shout at my ereader 😊,
In all seriousness I loved this book and very highly recommend it to all who love Regency Amy has not disappointed and I cant wait to read more thank you Amy xx

Comments: Rated this 4 stars. AR Bennet is an excellent storyteller. This story had some good features going for it: Rafe and Georgiana's sexy scenes were lovely. He was sensitive to her needs as she had been so badly hurt. Rafe's past life caught up with him and he did the utmost to protect her but in the end he felt he had failed her. A baby made the difference between living without one another in the end. I have to admit I didn't really enjoy this story as much as I should have even though it was well written and thought out.

cynical and prickly. She thought hero self-assured & an
odious/ conceited peacock.
Hero had 2 baddies to deal with. Georgie's gradual thaw-
ing of emotions highlighted the story. Sex scenes,
excepting the 1st, came across as more of the same. A
mixed effort.

I wanted to love this like everything else I’ve read by this author but this story moved too darn slowly. It was good but not great.

very hard to care
Georgie, the Duchess, is a widow who has had a traumatic experience 10 years ago. She's beautiful, rich, very much an aristocrat and boring. Rafe is handsome, charming, an ex-spy, and won't take no for an answer. Even when Georgie tells him why she's afraid to have sex, he is determined to get her in bed. There is a bit of a mystery. Overall this book is skipable. Even the sex scenes were skipable.

It was hard to tear myself away from the story of Lord Markham--former spy for the Crown--and Her Grace, Georgiana Dudley. It's a story that stirs the imagination - as these two passionate individuals meet and begin to fall in love.
He is smart-and his instincts are still honed from his service with the Crown. Rafe Markham has been separated from his dangerous job for almost a year...but he becomes convinced that some aspects of his job may never leave him...and in fact may still be lurking- in the form of dangerous revenge.
He doesn't know who or why...but his instincts tell him that his best chance for love and a happily ever after...the intriguing Georgiana Dudley...could be the one to pay for his evil deeds while in service to England. And he knows that the danger will strike like a viper. He can do nothing but be guarded and try and protect the one person whose presence in his life promises happiness and light. The woman who is unaware that her connection to him could very well cost her her life.
Intriguing and thought provoking-a wonderful salve for the soul of readers who enjoy the romantic stories that promise mystery and intrigue. The characters are warm, witty, and interesting. Mrs.Bennett delivers a wonderful story full of excellent description and a plot thick with excitement. I won't spoil your chance to arrive at the end of this book feeling thoroughly enriched. I cannot wait for the next book in her series!

Intriguing and thought provoking-a wonderful salve for the soul of readers who enjoy the romantic stories that promise mystery and intrigue. The characters are warm, witty, and interesting. Mrs.Bennett delivers a wonderful story full of excellent description and a plot thick with excitement. I won't spoil your chance to arrive at the end of this book feeling thoroughly enriched. I cannot wait for the next book in her series!

The Ice Duchess, book two in Amy Rose Bennett's Scandalous Regency Widows series, is another extensively well drawn work by this author.
When Georgiana Dudley the widowed Duchess of Darby is introduced to Rafe Landsbury the newly named Earl of Markham their attraction is indisputable. Each harboring secrets that could destroy any viable life together, the acute tension in their courtship was evident from the start. A very well orchestrated seduction on the part of the hero made this a dangerous story in and out of the bedroom. Likeable characters yearning for more than a superficial relationship gave this book a strong underlying focus.
Ms. Bennett has once again shown an interesting scenario featuring the darker side of the Regency Era. This author gives readers an intimate view of subject matter that while very much a part of polite society and society in general was taboo and condemning. You can always be assured of a story full of well designed plot twist when you read a book by Amy Rose Bennett. Structured with engrossing facts The Ice Duchess is ultimately a wonderful romance full of high risk and suspense.

Rafe and Georgie. I'm not got to give a synopsis of the story, since most other reviewers have done a much better job than I could. I, personally, had a number of problems with this book. First, and foremost, Georgie was a spoiled brat. When she lost at cards on multiple occasions? She got mad and pouted. She did nothing but bad-mouth Rafe, but when he first kissed her she was all over him like a blanket. She practically has sex with him and then when he calls her Georgie she replies, "I have not given you leave to use my first name." Actually, she was a shrew through the first half of the book. Once they actually started communicating with one another, the book got a little better. The danger in the story was interesting. Between 45-90% I was liking the book a little more. Then, unfortunately, it took a turn for me. Rafe has decided that they can't be together because of his past. He's miserable, she's miserable. Something happens to cause him to rethink his position and he decides to try and win her back, saying that he knows that groveling will be involved. He finds her and starts taking off his clothes, "to prove his love". Sorry, sex does not prove that he loves her.

The road to happiness isn't easy, because the two of them have secrets. Secrets that can destroy them and their love. Amy Rose Bennett has written a very enjoyable story of learning to trust and love again. The Ice Duchess was a book that I couldn't put down once I started. I wanted to know what their secrets were and how they could overcome them to find happiness and I wasn't disappointed.

Loved this!
For Georgiana and Rafe it was like a stormy fire from the start and as the story progressed it got hotter, more exciting and I just couldn’t put it down.
The characters quickly found a way into my heart and I felt their story from beginning to end.
This is a book well worth reading.

I loved Amy Rose Bennett's new book the ice duches. I love the characters and the plot.
Georgiana Dudley, the ‘Ice Duchess’, so she wants an affair. Society believes Rafe to be a diplomat but for many years but instead he has been a spy for the Crown. Rafe wants to find a wife. But when Rafe’s past returns to endanger Georgie, he is going protect her at all costs. I don't want to spoil everything in the story, but it was a great read. I can't wait for her next book.

Even though theirs had been a marriage in name only, Teddy had been her best friend. It so happens that Teddy and Jonathan had been lovers. Although he has retired from his work for Britain, he is still on watch for anything unusual. At the party, he is aware that someone outside in the garden is watching him so he is on alert.
As Rafe and Georgie see more of one another, there is a definite attraction but one that she fights.
Will Georgie be able to let down her guard and allow herself to come close to Rafe? What is the danger lurking in the shadows?
This book a good book but I found there were too many characters introduced that tends to make it confusing for the reader. However, I have enjoyed the the author’s work before and I’m sure I will continue to do so in the future.

Spoiler alert and CW: this is the second book in less than a week where the heroine is a victim of sexual assault in her past but is able to overcome her intense fear is sexual intimacy and sex extremely quickly. I don’t buy it.
We are told much more than we are shown. We’re told Georgiana is the “ice duchess” but I made it over halfway through this book and have seen no evidence of it. We’re told Rafe is a rake and so freaking handsome that Georgie basically loses her shit, but we don’t see these things either.
The first couple times they meet, we mostly seen them for a few minutes and then are told that the encounter is over. Wtf. We need to see them interacting!
Rafe is basically head over heels for Georgie from almost the start and is mostly super sweet to her. Also, he’s supposed to be a rake but can’t manage to go slowly enough during their first PIV encounter to not actively hurt Georgie by basically ramming his penis into her? GET OUT. DELETE YOUR RAKE ACCOUNT.
Oh, and after this (what must surely be terrible pain and emotional distress), suddenly Georgie is all “yeah baby I love it!” Nope.
DNF at 58%.
I also DNFed a novella by this author, so I guess no more of her books for me.

This is my first time reading Amy Rose Bennett but it most certainly will not be my last.

This was my first time reading something by this author and I loved it from page one. This is a very steamy read, but it doesn't take away from the story. I loved that even though her marriage was a marriage of convenience they both truly cared for each other and were best friends. There is so much in this book to love and to figure out. They were meant to be together and they kept being thrown together until she let down her shield and let the ice duchess melt away. I was shocked when what happened to her years ago was finally told, but it explained so much about her marriage and why she didn't want men around. The ending left me wanting more!
Georgiana is a favorite heroine of mine. She has been through so much but keeps her head up and goes on. Her past has affected to her badly, but also made her a strong woman. I loved how she and her brother were together and took care of each other.
Rafe has his own dark past that has affected him badly, but being a spy meant no one fully knew what happened. You love him for everything he does to protect Georgina from danger and to help her with her past even if his ways are a bit shocking at times.
I loved all the characters epically her brother Jonathon. He had a great personality and would do anything to take care of his sister or make her happy. I also loved that the people that knew about her brother and husband didn't judge them or make a big deal out of it. I look forward to reading more by this author.

The Ice Duchess is the second book in the Scandalous Widows series. Set in late 1816, Mayfair, London, this is a full and satisfying historical romance. There are secrets aplenty in this story.

A suspenseful Regency romance, The Ice Duchess kept my interest all the way through. The meeting between Georgiana Dudley and Rafe, the Earl of Markham sets off sparks and despite Georgie's vow to never become embroiled with any man ever again, she is unwittingly pulled into a competitive relationship with Rafe. Once Rafe sets out to win Georgie over, she finds that she doesn't have the weapons to withstand his overtures. The seduction of Georgie is gentle and sweet, however the story does become darker and more menacing as it moved into the latter half, as enemies from Rafe's past threaten his future. Apart from the villains in the story, I did enjoy the characters. Georgie's brother and friends only wish to see her happy and fulfilled and Rafe is the man to bring healing and renewal. Unfortunately, when Georgie is threatened, Rafe decisions hurt her more than she thought possible. In light of the explicit bedroom scenes, this book should come with an age restriction, however it does make for exciting reading.

I didn't like that Georgie's twin gay brother seemed to get over the love of his life with such ease, and he didn't seem to make good decisions to protect her sometimes. He wasn't malicious, but also not helpful when she was in danger.
The intrigue about the evil man from Rafe's past was exciting and added to the story. Well paced, good book.

In winning twice he inadvertently humiliates Georgina, known to be an expert at the game. She wants to avoid Rafe as much as he wants to pursue an affair, but in succumbing to Rafe, his and her past come to haunt them.

Georgiana is a recent widow with a lot of hidden history, Rafe, Lord Markham is now back in England after "diplomatic" service. His past and hers impact on them, so when they meet having been set up by their friends, they connect, but their relationship is dogged by a resurgence of their pasts getting in their way.
A fast paced and very readable story. Sometimes adventurous, sometimes romantic and sometimes steamy. I read this not having the first in the series and I feel it stood up well as a stand alone. I will be looking for others as I like the writing. A good escapist read, light and easy and enjoyable.

This was a Duke of the Month Club offering. I liked the setup, Georgie was the widow of her brother’s lover, but I had misgivings about the spy angle. I’m not a fan of espionage, and this did not change my mind. While I appreciate the work the author put into her story, most of it was composed of predictable tropes that weren’t my faves. By 76% I had to choose between DNF or skimming. Skimming won out. There was a competition between Georgie and Rafe by way of thunderous exposition (an issue throughout the book) on who had the most pitiful past experiences, then a bit of a surprise, and the whole thing came to a blessed halt. I’m so relieved to be finished.

The moment the hero is pawing at the heroine and they are already sharing a kiss in the first couple of pages, I already know I won’t enjoy the book. I’m a fan of the slow burn, and have an appreciation in the gradual attraction that grows as two people realize they have feelings for each other. This was not this. The writing was fair and the author showed some attention to historical details, but the story was not great and the lack of any real build up between the two main characters was greatly missed.
